Peace Lutheran Church Offers Workshop On Taize Worship

Join Peace Lutheran Church, 5 Scenic Drive, Washington, on Monday April 23 at 7 p.m. for an educational workshop on the Taize form of worship.

Taizé prayer is the creation of a monastic community in Taizé, France, founded in the 1940s by a Swiss man known as Brother Roger.

A Taizé worship service involves sung and chanted prayers, meditation, a period of silence, liturgical readings, and icons. There is no preaching. The style of prayer practiced at Taizé has attracted many worshipers from around the globe and from many different denominations.

Jennifer Petruso, campus minister at Saint Louis University, will lead the workshop. During her time at SLU, Jennifer has overseen regular Taizé prayer services for students on campus and recently served as a member of the planning committee for the regional Taizé Pilgrimage of Trust in May of 2017.

Additionally, her own spiritual practice has led her to visit the Community of Taizé in France several times and her heart has found a home in the joy, simplicity, and mercy of the Taizé community.

Those taking part in the workshop will be invited to help plan and take part in three Taize worship services for the local community to be held June 3, July 1, and August 5 at 5 p.m. at Peace Lutheran.

This workshop and subsequent services are part of Peace Lutheran’s renewal activities held in conjunction with Pastor Aimee Appell’s sabbatical. During this time she will spend one week at the Taize community in France. As part of this workshop Pastor Appell will share her previous experiences at the Taize community and what she hopes to gain from her upcoming visit.
