Tiny 2-Pound Pug Foster Named 'Tadpole' Has Stolen the Internet's Heart

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 4:15pm

When it comes to fostering dogs, most of the time we're talking about fully grown ones who are still looking for their forever homes. After all, puppies do get adopted much more quickly, so older dogs are more representative of the homeless dog population in general. But once in awhile, it does happen that puppies need a foster home until they find their perfect families... and that part of fostering has to be really fun. It's never easy to say goodbye to an adorable dog, but it's an incredibly selfless thing to do for an animal in need.

Then, there's this tiny little lady who is going viral on TikTok. I don't know how this foster mom is ever going to let her go — but maybe the dog's new foster grandpa will be interested in adopting her so she can stay in the family after seeing this!

In a video shared on Monday, April 22, Jen Tripucka shared what happened when her father-in-law had the chance to meet her new foster dog — a black Pug puppy who weighs just two pounds. And as if that's not cute enough, her name is Tadpole. OMG!

The footage shows her FIL cradling tiny Tadpole in his hands as they look out the window together. This little pup is getting so spoiled with cuddles and pets... just as she should be!

In another video, she shared a slideshow of photos of Tadpole since she came to live with her, and somehow, she manages to get cuter in every single slide. She totally could have hidden out in that Trader Joe's bag forever without being found, that's how tiny she is!

More About Tadpole

Jen shared the story of how Tadpole came to live in her in a later video after people in the comments asked questions about her new friend.

Tadpole's story got off to a sad start when she was originally rescued from a puppy mill in the midwestern U.S. After her rescue, she was hospitalized for a week due to "congenital issues" that happened because of her breeding, and was even positive for parvo.

Just her size shows that she wasn't born healthy; she's only two pounds at 12 weeks old. At that point, a pug should weigh between 4-7 pounds, so she's definitely behind. It's good to know that she's getting the help she needs to thrive now.

If the response Tadpole has gotten online (and from her foster mom's FIL) so far is any indication, she's going to have absolutely no problem finding a forever home very soon. Whoever ends up being Tadpole's parents will be very lucky!

Rescued Stray Cat's First Time on a Bed Has People in Their Feelings

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 3:30pm

A beautiful 10-year-old stray rescue cat was able to sit on a bed for the first time ever and it's giving people real feelings.

On April 23, 2024, TikTok user happypurr (@happypurr) shared a video of a really sweet rescue cat who finally got to experience the comfort of lying on a bed. Take a look!

In a minute-long video, we're introduced to Happy, a 10-year-old beautiful black cat who is experiencing new things.

Happy is a rescue stray, and at ten years old, she hasn't been able to do much, including feeling the comfort of lying on a comfortable bed—until now.

"POV: you rescued a 10-year-old stray cat, and it's her first time lying on a bed," the text on the screen reads.

We meet Happy, sitting on a pillow on the bed, and she looks so happy. You can almost see her ease into comfort and take a deep breath for the first time.

"Pardon my messy background, but I really want to share this," the caption reads with pleading face emojis. The clip features the song "Love Is Beautifully Painful—Ghost Duet Version" by Darkrose.

The comment section filled up with people who also fell in love with the sweet cat.

"You can relax now, baby," one person shared.

"All I do on this app is cry," another admitted.

"The thought behind those eyes," added someone else, including some cry emojis.

Someone else shared, "Black cats are the most loving cats, and it's sad how much hatred they get toward them. "I'm glad this baby found a safe home."

Another added: "You can literally see her emotions."

How to Help a Stray Cat Get Comfortable in a  Domestic Home

Bringing a new cat into the home means there will be some adjustment to the new routine for you and your cat. When you're welcoming an older cat, especially one who was a stray, you need to take things slow and easy.

According to ModernCat, there are a few things you can do to help your cat feel more comfortable and acclimate to your home.

The first tip they suggest is to have a "dedicated cat room." This will allow them to have a space for themselves when they get overwhelmed or need somewhere to rest.

"It should have scratching posts, a few toys, food, water, and a litter box (ensure the food and litter are on opposite sides of the room)," ModernCat says. "This room should be quiet and, for the time being, not for human use."

Some other tips include using food and treats to build trust and affection, avoiding eye contact, which can make them feel like you're being aggressive, and being mindful not to force any physical contact. They'll come to you when they're ready.

And, of course, like Happy, they'll hopefully ease into the comfort of a warm, loving home.

How to Keep Short-Snout Pups Safe in the Summertime (From a Seasoned Dog Mom)

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 3:00pm

Summertime is nearly here! Though it's still a little chilly in some parts of the country, spring is in full-swing. As amazing as these warmer months are, they can be tough on some dogs, and we see dozens of videos of short-snout dogs every year breathing like they've never gotten air before. It's upsetting, and what's more, completely preventable.

Dogs who have short, smushed snouts are known as "brachycephalic" breeds, and they're famous for having breathing issues. Because of their short snouts, their nasal passages are much narrower than other dogs', and it can be much easier for them to be winded. In addition, it's a lot harder for them to catch their breath and a lot easier to overheat. Improperly managing a brachycephalic dog in the heat can be deadly.

It can be hard to keep dogs from doing things they set their minds to, but it's a crucial part of keeping them happier and healthier overall. Luckily, after raising three of these short-snout, smush-faced creatures, I've learned a thing or two!

Keep Your Dog in Shape

I know it sounds stupid, but the most important thing you can do to ensure that your short-snout dog breathes as well as it can is to keep it from gaining too much "winter" weight. When it's cold out, our dogs naturally spend less time outside, and brachy breeds tend to gain weight in their faces and around their necks easily. Which further compresses those passages.

There are indoor doggy gyms and traveling services that help and provide a place for your pup to get some exercise. Doggy treadmills can be found online, too - but even if you skimp on the exercise, just try not to overfeed them. Some people even lower their dogs' portions in the winter - because they're not getting as much exercise, they don't need to eat as much food!

Keep Them in When it's Really Hot

Midsummer is a brachy breed's worst enemy. Unfortunately, the hot weather is ideal for humans to be doing tons of physical activity like hiking, jogging, and long walks. Unfortunately, though, most brachycephalic breeds aren't built for that, but are still forced to tag along.

On very hot days, you should keep walks short (and put booties on their paws!) and instead try to find ways to play inside or close to home. Limit their outdoor time to about 5 minutes at a time, and have plenty of water nearby. As soon as they start to pant, bring them inside to cool down!

Image via Allison Blair

Don't Add Ice Cubes to Their Water

Ice cold water on a hot day when you're overexerted is basically the nectar of the gods, but in reality, it's not the best idea. While it's unlikely to cause severe shock as most people claim, it can still be dangerous for your pups: they're fine with the same water they drink all day long. You should refrain from adding ice cubes: if they lap up the water too quickly, it can be a choking hazard.

Dogs can have ice cubes, but they should be given on their own and only if you know it's not big enough to choke on. They do love to chew them up!

Have Them Checked for Stenotic Nares

A huge issue with brachycephalic breeds is "stenotic nares," which means that the dog's nostrils are too narrow and makes it hard for them to get air into them. Unfortunately, no matter how "good" your breeder is, any short-snouted dog can suffer from stenotic nares.

Image via Allison Blair

A vet should point it out during their initial physical exam, and they'll typically recommend that, if the nostrils don't widen with age, you have them widened. In young dogs, the procedure is done at the same time as a spay/neuter: they take a laser to the nostrils and carve out wider passages. Recovery is simple, since the wound cauterizes as they do the procedure, and they'll be able to breathe better when the warmer months come around!

What are Short-Snout Dogs at Risk for?

In the heat, your short-snout pups are going to have a hard time, even if they're in good shape. If you don't manage them properly or they overexert themselves, they may suffer from:

  1. Heatstroke
  2. Dehydration
  3. Tracheal collapse

Unfortunately, brachycephalic dogs die every year because of the heat. It's something that's easy to prevent, but you really have to be paying attention. Otherwise, your summer of fun and adventure may become the summer of expensive vet bills!

"POV: Your indoor cat enjoying the outside," the text on the screen reads.

The video slowly zooms to a flower bed where Tuzzi, a cute on-year-old Scottish Fold is sitting on the mulch.

His eyes were closed and he had one paw outstretched, and his face turned toward the sun. Tuzzi has the most content look on his face, and it's so cute to see him so relaxed and chill and happy!

"His new favorite spot," the video's caption reads, and viewers couldn't get enough, according to the comment section.

"What a handsome boy," one person shared.

"I just know if my cat was allowed outdoors, this would be him," someone else wrote.

"We call it enrichment time," someone else shared.

"The most beautiful fluffy plant I have ever seen," wrote another.

Should I Let My Cat Outside?

If you have a cat, you've probably noticed that there's been a long debate in the community about whether you should allow cats to go outdoors or if they should always be indoor cats. Some say being outside opens them to safety and health risks, while others say keeping them inside deprives them of something vital for happiness.

According to one 2022 study in the Veterinary Humanities and Social Sciences, approximately 33% of pet cats in North America are allowed to explore outdoors, with a wide range of 25–85% of owned cats being kept indoors in the United States and Canada.

According to The British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BC SPCA), letting your cat outside carries several risks, including poisoning and injury by wildlife or other cats or dogs in the neighborhood. It also exposes them to disease and parasites and busy streets that can lead to injury or death, and none of those risks should be taken lightly.

But keeping cats inside can lead to depression or frustration, especially if their personality really wants to go outside.

The Animal Humane Society (AHS) says that if you have a cat who "incessantly" begs to be outdoors, there are ways you can give them that enrichment with their safety in mind.

"AHS encourages leash-training kitties who incessantly beg to be outdoors," they share.

Adding, "You might also try buying or building an outdoor cat enclosure (also called a 'catio'), which will give your cat fresh air and the feeling of being outside while keeping them safe from cars, predators, and even poisonous plants."

It's also important to have regular checkups with the vet if your cat is able to go outdoors to make sure they're up-to-date on all vaccines.

Dog Dad ‘Disciplines’ the Vacuum for Scaring His Pups and It Actually Works

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 2:00pm

The vacuum cleaner: a dog's enemy. Even worse than cats, the mailman, or the doorbell on TV! Dogs hate everything there is to hate about vacuum cleaners, and that's really unfortunate. It can make keeping your home clean tough - we never want to do things that will make our fur babies uncomfortable!

If it's bad enough, you really need to intervene and try to figure out the problem. Stressing out your pups is never good, but neither is having a dirty floor. As it turns out, there may be hope after all: a video posted on Monday, April 21st shows off a new strategy!

@weishaarfam

We saw something that said if you discipline your vacuum your dog won’t be scared of it anymore 😂😂

♬ original sound - Weishaar Family

According to the comments on @weishaarfam's video, this is actually a pretty common tactic with mixed reviews. Judging by this video, it kind of worked!

Related: Professionally Trained Guard Dog Freaking Out Over Vacuum Is Too Funny

The dogs in this video are named Bear and Ellie. They're both rescues, and according to their mom, both dogs (as well as their late dog, Chuy) both dogs are a little bit anxious. That's unfortunately a common occurrence with shelter dogs: not only do they sometimes come from traumatic homes or the streets, but shelter life isn't easy. Despite shelter workers' best efforts to keep things as calm possible for shelter pups, they're often incredibly loud and overcrowded.

As a result of their previous lives, these two dogs are afraid of the vacuum, just like many other rescue dogs. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to help them get over their fears, especially since fear manifests itself in aggression so often. In other videos, we can see Ellie and Bear both trying to bite the vacuum and chasing after it!

How to Help Dogs Not be Afraid of the Vacuum

Whether you have a dog you've gotten from a breeder or a rescue dog, exposing them to the vacuum should be handled with care. Doing it wrong could legitimately make their fear even worse. Exposure is the best medicine, and there are some ways to do it. Here's what worked for all three of our dogs!

  1. If the dog is a puppy, start exposing them to it ASAP.
  2. Start out by running the vacuum in a different room so they can hear it.
  3. Keep the vacuum in a common area so they can always see it.
  4. Without turning it on, go through the vacuuming motions so they can get used to its movements.
  5. Turn it on and leave it standing still for a few minutes so they get used to the sound in the same room as they are.
  6. Start moving it slowly while it's turned on. If they react badly, turn it off and try again later.

By that point, you should be fine to vacuum as normal, but remember, there's no exact timeline. Some pups just need some extra time to settle down!

English Cream Golden Retriever Captivated by Taylor Swift Is Clearly a Mega Fan

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 1:15pm

It's hard to argue with the fact that the past year (or two) has really been Taylor Swift's year. Between the wildly successful Eras Tour and her new album, The Tortured Poets Department, she's everywhere right now, and if you're a Swiftie like me, you're probably loving it. I've had the new album on repeat for the past week, and I'm pretty sure that, at this point, my dog has memorized all of the lyrics. She's also watched the Eras Tour movie a few dozen times, which means she is ready if the next leg of the tour ever decides to allow dogs in.

And my dog is not the only one, apparently — at least, not according to this TikTok video, where one pup is ready to sing along to every song Taylor performs on stage.

@finntok1021

Finn was captived. He's a swiftie. #englishcreamgoldenretriever #goldenretriever #swiftie

♬ original sound - Finn the English Cream

Recently, @finntok1021 shared a peek at what happens when her dog, an English Cream Golden Retriever, watches the Eras Tour movie now that it's streaming on Disney+. Looks like Finn and I have a lot in common, judging by this video!

As soon as he walked in the room and saw Taylor on the screen, he was transfixed — he stopped what he was doing and watched the screen, paying such close attention. I'm so amazed by this!

"Finn was captivated. He's a Swiftie," Finn's mom wrote in her caption.

This is just too cute. Hey, next time she leaves the house, she knows exactly what to put on... and since the concert movie runs for more than three hours, he'll have plenty of entertainment to keep him company while she's gone.

This sweet Golden does seem like he'd be a perfect concert buddy...

His fellow Swifties gushed over him in the comments, with one writing, "That’s me when I come back as dog and I’m like finally someone is playing Taylor so I can watch!"

Do Dogs Like Music?

There are a lot of things that this pup might like about the Eras Tour movie, from the bright colors on screen to the performances... and for Finn, it might even be the music, too.

According to what veterinary behaviorist Lisa Radosta told Daily Paws, some dogs do like music, and others aren't that into it. Studies have shown that it may help calm dogs who are stressed, as long as it's the right kind!

In the study, dogs responded well to classical music, heavy metal, and pop, so it's no wonder that Finn loves Taylor, who falls right into that category.

Interestingly, dogs are most calmed by audio books. Who knew?!

Here's hoping Finn is enjoying the new album. Taylor might be a cat lady, but she'd probably love to know he's a fan.

Excited Golden Retriever Interrupting Mom’s Dance Party Ends With an Epic Leap

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 1:00pm

If you want to have a dance party and you happen to have a dog, you can totally count on them joining in on the fun. While dogs do enjoy dancing to music, they mostly enjoy having fun with you!

On Monday, April 21st, one dog mom was just trying to dance her heart out to a new song when her Golden Retriever decided he needed to join right in. What ensued wasn't only the cutest dance party ever, but also a super cool jump:

User @emilykay_13 might be able to do it with a broken heart, but so can her beautiful Golden boy! How sweet is this video?!

Related: Dog Hearing Her Name in New Taylor Swift Song Couldn’t Be Any Cuter

Taylor Swift's new album, The Tortured Poets Department, currently has the world by the throat - including our non-human friends. It's a blend of upbeat synth sounds and slow, easy songs, which makes it perfect for slightly depressed humans and their furry friends alike!

As soon as Emily's pup sees her dancing, he wants to get in on the fun, too! He jumps up on her to dance, and she goes right along with it - there's no harm in letting your dog dance with you! However, he must've really been feeling the groove by the end, because he took off in a jump so flawlessly that even she has to stop and look!

How to Safely Dance with Your Dog

If your dog wants to dance, you can totally let them, but there are some things you'll want to keep in mind. Dancing for a dog requires them to stand and move on their back legs. If they do it too often or for too long, there's a chance that they could pull a muscle, tear a ligament, or come down wrong and fracture or sprain their leg.

When you want to dance with your dog, you should:

  1. Assess the situation. Overweight dogs are more likely to put more stress on their back legs than others when holding themselves up.
  2. Sit down and let them lean more heavily on you for support.
  3. If possible, pick them up completely to dance.
  4. Stop them every 30 seconds or so to allow them time to relax.
  5. Never grab, pull on, or shake their front paws while you dance.

Dancing and jumping up relentlessly are two different things, and it's easy for dogs to get overexcited. If your dog comes up to dance but starts nipping and scratching, the best thing is to put them down and redirect them - without getting mad at them, of course. They're just excited, and not all of them have the ability to jump away from their problems like this boy!

Rottweiler’s Secret Friendship with Neighbor Is As Sweet As It Gets

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 12:15pm

Dogs have an innate ability to sense good people and can size up an individual within minutes. If only humans had this trait, it would save us a lot of heartache.

Similarly, wonderful humans have a knack for recognizing amazing dogs, and once a bond is formed, it lasts a lifetime. The charming relationship between a Rottweiler and her neighbor is a perfect example of this.

Watch the video from April 24 to see how sweetly they coexist.

A post shared by Mick Nishikawa + Sammi & Emma (@this_girl_emma_)

This is so sweet to see! This beautiful girl, Emma, befriended the neighbor next door. Although their friendship is built around a divider on a balcony, that hasn’t stopped this relationship from becoming part of her daily routine. In fact, if she spots her favorite neighbor on the other side, she begins to scratch at the glass to get her daily dose of pets from this floating arm, her parents tell us. He seems to enjoy this special time between them just as much.

Related: Rottweiler Patiently Letting Little Girl Take His Photos Is Downright Precious

Sadly, all good things must end, and her favorite neighbor moved out. Luckily, his brother became her new favorite human and was happy to give her the daily pets and scratches she had come to expect. Her parents are grateful for having such kind and caring people surrounding them. It makes a big difference to have good people with arms' reach, quite literally in this case.

Rottweilers Always Remember Good People

My Rottweilers always remembered a good person, even if they had only met them once. Their enormous heads store a big memory, and undoubtedly, when this neighbor comes back to visit, Emma will be thrilled to see him again. And indeed, he’ll be just as delighted to visit with her. However, he might have to fight his brother for her attention.

This beautiful friendship touched people. Viewer @vedad.haghighi responded, “This could be a short at a Sundance Festival. What a roller coaster of emotions!” At the very least, it would make a beautiful children’s book. Another person remarked, “Oh, for a while, I felt so sad, but to see her having the brother becoming her new best neighbor made me feel so happy for her. It’s a lot of emotions.” It sure is wonderful to see. Viewer @andrewgatenby responded, “That would be me. What a lovely dog!” Animal lovers everywhere would jump at the opportunity to have such a lovely neighbor.

Hopefully, this beautiful girl won’t have to worry about her friend moving anytime soon. However, she is a true social butterfly and should have no trouble making a new friend if needed.

Boston Terrier’s Excited Spins When Her Favorite Song Comes on Will Have Everyone Dizzy

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 12:00pm

If you say you don't have a favorite song, you're lying. Everyone has a favorite song, and you don't even have to be human! Birds, cats, and even dogs can all have tunes they like to dance to!

One dog's love of dancing to her favorite song reached a whole new level, on Monday, April 22nd. Her crazy spins are enough to make just about anyone feel queasy, so you might want to sit down before you watch:

I totally understand where the dog in @corndogcorncob's video is coming from. I love that song (if you didn't know, it's Chappell Roan's Femininomenon).

Related: 4-Year-Old Boston Terrier Does the Cutest Celebratory Dance After Finally Mastering the Doggy Door

The pup in this video picks up that big blue ball and starts spinning as soon as she hears this song, and according to the poster, she does this every time it comes on. Research has suggested that dogs definitely do like to dance to their favorite songs, though they've admitted they don't know much about why they do or what determines their sick moves. This pup's signature seems to be The Spin!

Dogs actually do a fair amount of spinning on the daily. They spin when they get the zoomies, they spin when they're tired, and they sometimes like to chase their tails, too. It's a little concerning: more than one spin and I'm personally on a one-way train to losing my lunch, but they can spin like a centrifuge with no second thought?!

Dogs Don't Get Dizzy While Spinning

Dogs can spin and spin for a long time with no feelings of dizziness, and the reason is simple: their vestibular systems are build different than ours are. The vestibular system lives in the inner ear and is responsible for our balance and, therefore, feeling dizzy. When humans spin around, the fluid in the inner ear spins, too, which helps you feel somewhat okay while spinning. When you stop spinning though, it takes that fluid a little while to settle again, which is when dizziness sets in. The fluid in a dog's ear is positioned a little bit differently.

Dogs can and do get dizzy, though, and it's almost always an indicator that something is wrong. There are a few causes of dizziness in dogs:

  1. Carsickness
  2. Ear infection
  3. Vestibular disease
  4. Old age
  5. Dehydration and overheating
  6. Strokes and cancers
  7. Hunger

If you notice your dog seeming dizzy and sick out of nowhere, they need to go to the vet as soon as possible. They'll be able to find out what's going on, and even if it's nothing serious, they can at least help get their motion sickness under control!

Costco's New Weather-Resistant Outdoor Dog Beds Are a Must for Summer

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 11:15am

With spring in full gear, you're probably starting to spend more time outdoors these days, which means your pets are, too. It's been a very long winter, so the sun and warm temperatures are very much welcomed, and it's giving my stir crazy dog the chance to run around and enjoy the sunshine. But it can be hard to spend long periods outside with our pups. Even if we bring a water bowl outside with us, lounging on patio or even on the grass can get really uncomfortable and hot. But who wants to bring their dog bed outside just so it can get dirty?

Fortunately, Costco has a solution for us — just in time for summer, too. They're selling outdoor dog beds that are weather-resistant and perfect for pups to use outside this year. If they get dirty, all you have to do is rinse them off!

@costcohotfinds

Originally shared by @costcohotfinds on TikTok on Wednesday, April 24, this dog bed is huge! Not to mention the fact that it looks pretty comfy.

The fabric used here is both UV-resistant and weather-resistant, which means if you leave it out in the rain, it's not a big deal, and it won't fade if it's left in the direct sunlight. It also comes with a handle for easy carrying, and if you need to clean it, the bed unzips, and inside, you'll see that the mattress is also covered in another layer of weather protection. This is pretty impressive!

It could also be good to use indoors if you have any pets who are prone to accidents, since it would be so easy to clean.

The dog bed can be found at Costco now, so if you have a membership, you might want to go grab one before it's gone!

More About Costco's Outdoor Dog Bed

If you don't have time to make it to Costco but are interested in this bed, it's also available online. Called the Brentwood Originals Indoor/Outdoor Pet Bed, it measures 40x40, leaving plenty of room for comfort even if you do have a member of one of the larger dog breeds at home.

The bed comes in both the blue stripes and a solid blue, and the outside of the bed is machine washable, so you can unzip it and throw it in with your laundry when it's time to clean it. It seems to be getting good reviews so far, which is a plus.

Your dogs are going to thank you for this one when they're lounging in the sunshine this summer!

Moment Maine Coon Cat Discovers New Catio Is Full of Pure Wonder

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 11:00am

Maine Coons are some of the biggest, most affectionate cats you'll ever come across. They're loyal and they love their families - of all cat breeds, Maine Coons have been described as the most "dog-like."

If there's one thing dogs and Maine Coons have in common, it's a desire to be outside. Wild animals at heart will always want to find their way outdoors, and if done responsibly, there's no harm in letting them. On Thursday, April 25th, one lucky Maine Coon's dreams finally came true and everyone needs to see it:

I know that @through.the.lleaves highlights her Maine Coon here, but she has a bazillion other animals that I know will love the new catio, too!

There are several other cats in the home, including two who were born with Feline Eyelid Agenesis - they don't have eyes. Despite that, though, both brothers can do everything the other resident cats can do, including using this lovely new catio. Even disabled cats love to feel the sun on their fur, they just need a little bit of extra help to stay safe out there.

Cas, the matriarch of the family, has been very open about how much money her pets have made on TikTok, and it looks like she's using the money for good. She's made several pet-focused improvements to her home since her account took off, including enclosure upgrades for tank animals, new cat trees that can actually fit her massive Maine Coon, and now, a fancy catio!

Maine Coons Love to Go Outside

All cats (and all animals, really) can benefit from some time outside. The natural light is good for them, especially for reptiles who need daily UVB exposure to thrive. Outside time is also a perfect enrichment opportunity for cats: they love the sights, sounds, and smells of the outdoors.

If you can't afford (or don't have a place) to build a whole catio, though, you don't have to worry. There are plenty of other ways your cats can have safe "outside" time:

  1. Put them in a stroller and take them for a walk around the neighborhood.
  2. Install little cat "viewing bubbles" on your windows so that they can see further outside without going out on their own.
  3. Create a ledge for cats to sit on in front of the window.
    1. You can even install a bird feeder so they'll have something to watch.
  4. If the cat will let you, put them on a leash and take them outside!

Maine Coon cats in particular are easy to leash-train, and they love to go for walks. If you train them young, you might even be able to get them comfortable enough to get leashed up and walk into pet stores just like a dog!

Golden Retriever's Dramatic Refusal to Leave Grandma's House Is Totally Oscar-Worthy

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 10:15am

As a mom to a human and a mom to a dog... I'm honestly not sure who loves Grandma more. My mom has been known to spoil both of them plenty, from giving out tons of pets and treats (to the dog) to purchasing all kinds of new toys (for the kid). It's no wonder that neither of them ever want to leave her house or want her to leave when she's hanging out at our house — she's a much nicer lady than Mom, and they both love her so much.

But sadly, every child and dog must learn that the time will come when they have to say goodbye to Grandma and go home at the end of a visit... but that doesn't mean they're going to be happy about it!

In this video from @jessie.lalande that was shared on Tuesday, April 23, we can see one very stubborn Golden Retriever who is in absolutely no mood to leave Grandma's house. And according to the caption, he does this every time they visit. He must love her a lot!

Poor Jack is just laying in the grass, totally unmoving, despite the fact that his mom is trying to get him into the car.

"Come on, Jack," she's calling in the background, but Jack doesn't care — he just keeps laying in the sun, occasionally wagging his tail when he hears his grandma's voice. He looks pretty comfy!

If this looks familiar to you, don't worry — in the comments, fellow pet parents were coming forward to share that their dogs do the same thing. These pups love their grandparents, and who are we to stand in the way of true love? At least, that's gotta be what Jack is thinking.

How to Train Stubborn Dogs

Sometimes, the stubborn personality that some dogs like Jack have can be really cute if it only comes out on occasion. Other times, it can be stressful for humans... or even downright dangerous in some situations.

If you've noticed your dog has a bit of a stubborn streak, there are a few things you can do to work on it. Everyday Dog magazine recommends trying clicker training with really yummy treats involved — not their ordinary treats — to help train them away from the undesirable behavior.

For example, if their stubborn behavior is pulling on their leash to go another direction, you'd stop walking, wait for them to look at you, click, and then offer a treat, and continue your walk, and repeat as many times as necessary. It can be frustrating, but practice makes perfect!

Good luck with your stubborn pups out there... and make sure to give them plenty of bonding time with Grandma!

Golden Retriever's Pitiful Cries Over Cat Blocking the Stairs Are Full of Drama

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 10:00am

Cats and dogs can absolutely live together in harmony, but even in a peaceful home, there are going to be moments of upset. There's no way around it. After all, they're siblings, and siblings can't not fight.

Recently, a Golden Retriever and a Siamese cat found themselves having a little bit of an issue. Luckily, mom was there to mediate, but the video suggests that things definitely could've gotten ugly:

@vetrevizan

That's one big Golden Retriever! I'm sure this isn't the first little quibble @vetrevizan has ever seen, and it definitely won't be the last.

These two are the epitome of a sibling duo. The cat wants to stretch out on the stairs to catch some of the sunbeams from a nearby window, but the poor pup is trying to lumber on down the stairs. Some dogs might just jump right over whatever was in their way, but not this guy: he wants the cat to move, and he needs mom's help!

There's no real danger here, especially since he's not interested in jumping over the cat. Eventually, if his mom hadn't come to his rescue, he probably would've started pawing at her. While that could've resulted in a fight, it probably would've just earned him a disgruntled "meow" as the cat moved out of his way. Something tells me this is not the first time this has happened.

The Best Ways to Prevent Cats and Dogs Fighting

Even if you think your cat and dog get along great, you can probably count on them getting in at least a couple of fights. Anything can set them off: stealing food, lying in the wrong spot, being in the way, or accidental bumping can cause a brawl. Your pets can get seriously hurt!

Preventing fights between them is never 100% foolproof, but there are some things you can do, like:

  1. Feeding them in separate rooms (and not free-feeding).
  2. Having two of everything so they don't feel the need to compete.
  3. Spending time with each animal individually to prevent jealousy.
  4. Making sure both pets get adequate exercise every day so they don't have too much pent-up energy.
  5. Keeping pets out of "problematic" areas (like off of the stairs).

Even if your pets don't like each other, they definitely need to be able to tolerate each other to live peacefully. Before adopting a new pet, make sure they do well with other animals. Most shelters list those attributes on their websites, and any reputable breeder will be more than willing to host a meet-and-greet for you and your resident pets to ensure a great fit!

Tiny Kitten Is Totally Mesmerized by TV on First Day in New Home

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 9:15am

Kittens are so much fun for a lot of reasons, but one of the best parts of raising mine were seeing the world through their eyes. Everything was brand new to them, and they were experiencing even the tiniest details for the first time, which was so much fun to watch. I loved cheering on their milestones and accomplishments... and witnessing the littlest things, like the first time my cat was acquainted with catnip. Kittens can be very mischievous, but they can also be so much fun.

And when it comes to the kitten in this TikTok video, they're all about the TV! After never seeing this before in their lives, it has to be very wild to see images moving in front of their eyes on a screen like this!

@sneakerqueenscustoms

Oh yeah, we’re gonna be besties🥹 #kittentok #kikisdeliveryservice #studioghibli #cutecat

This sweet video comes to us by way of @sneakerqueenscustoms, who shared it on Thursday, April 25. We can see her little gray kitten perched on the end of her bed, watching the movie that's playing on the screen so intently.

And this isn't just any movie. It's Kiki's Delivery Service, which means that this cat already has good taste. And at such a young age, too? Truly impressive!

Judging by what she wrote in the video, she only brought this kitten home yesterday, so it looks like her new friend is wasting no time making herself comfortable and getting used to her new life... which includes watching classic movies, of course.

Do Cats Like Watching TV?

Since cats are all so unique, not all cats will be interested in watching TV... but yours might, just like the kitten in this video.

However, cats don't see TV quite the same way we do. According to Catster, cats don't see colors the same way that we do, and they're more likely to see flickers of individual images than they are continuous movement like we do when we watch TV. However, with updated technology, this may be a little different for them on newer TVs, which would be easier for them to watch.

That's why watching animated movies and shows like Kiki's Delivery Service are going to be appealing to the felines in our lives. They will also like watching anything that features animals they'd hunt in the wild, like birds and rodents, as well as anything that features animal noises, especially if they seem to have more of a. "hunter" personality.

This might be a good weekend to watch your favorite brightly colored, action packed animated movie... your cat might join you!

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel 'Stomps' His Paws in Demand of Mom's Dinner

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 6:30am

An adorable Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has the funniest way to demand his mom's attention when he wants to eat her dinner.

On April 21, 2024, TikTok user Tucker, Wallace, and Scarlet (@tuckerwallacescarlet) shared a video of Tucker's funny way he stomps his feet. Take a look!

In a 28-second video we meet Tucker, a cute black and brown Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who really wants to eat what his parent is eating.

Sitting at a table, on a chair like a person, Tucker's eyes are laser-focused on something behind the camera.

As the second passes, you can see him thinking with his eyes whether he will get to eat whatever is being made in the kitchen.

He starts to whine and whimper, getting antsy over what is being prepared in the kitchen.

But it's Tucker's last-ditch effort to get attention when he starts stomping his two front paws on the table while still seated in the chair.

"When Tucker wants my dinner," the video's caption read. And in the comment section, people loved this cute dog's reaction too.

"I love when my little diva sasses me/guilts me into sharing," one person wrote.

"That poor baby just wants some nummies," someone else shared.

"Tucker is completely adorable," shared another.

"My gosh, they are all the same," another viewer wrote.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Personality

According to the American Kennel Club, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are described as being "affectionate," "gentle," and "graceful."

The organization explains, "Cavaliers are the best of two worlds, combining the gentle attentiveness of a toy breed with the verve and athleticism of a sporting spaniel. The Cavalier's all-around beauty, regal grace, and even temper mark him as one of dogdom's noblemen."

These sweet, small dogs are great for kids and they get along well with other dogs, too. They're also super adaptable to many lifestyles, doing "equally well with active owners and homebodies they can be upbeat athletes or shameless couch potatoes, depending on an owner's lifestyle."

The American Kennel Club explains these pups are "one of the friendliest breeds, showering affection on their family and happily getting along with other dogs, kids, cats, and total strangers. In fact, strangers are friends they haven’t met yet."

Because of their sweet, kind personalities, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are often used as therapy dogs, which is something they naturally excel in.

The Canadian Kennel Club describes the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel in a similar way, noting that these dogs are "gentle and affectionate" and are known as being the "comforter" or the "spaniel gentle" in the early years of history.

Adding, "Though playful and alert, the Cavalier is a born lapdog whose exercise requirements are easily satisfied. It is relatively quiet and calm-natured."

135 Ear-resistible Bunny Names for Your Precious Pet

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 6:10am

Has the thought of getting a pet rabbit ever crossed your mind? They’re not only sweet and playful, but having a furry little companion of your own will make you feel like you’re living in a real-life Disney movie. And think about the endless possibilities of bunny names!

While the idea of having a bunny may sound dreamy, figuring out what you’ll actually call your cotton-tailed pet can feel overwhelming as you find yourself going down a never-ending rabbit hole of monikers and nicknames.

However, that’s completely normal. It just means you care. However, when it comes to making big decisions, like choosing a name, sometimes it’s best to create a short list of ones you like and then wait until you actually meet your floppy-eared friend to pick one. That way, you can feel more hop-timistic about the naming process, instead of feeling stressed and pressured about it.

To help you out, we’ve come up with 135 unique bunny names for girls and boys, below. Some are cute, some are whimsical or funny, and others honor famous rabbits. Some are even related to the physical appearance of bunnies—getting inspiration from colors like black, white, grey and brown.

As you read through the list, hopefully you’ll find a few that em-bunny just what you’re looking for. After all, adding a new pet to your life is something worth celebrating. So, hop to it and let our list ease your bunny-naming dilemma.

Tips for Naming Your Bunny or Rabbit

When it comes to naming your bunny, there are a few things you can consider that’ll help make the process easier. One popular tip is to base it off of your pet’s appearance and fur coloring. For example, if your bunny is white, choosing a name that reminds you of that shade, like Vanilla or Elsa is very common.

You can also go the cute-name route and pick something super sweet for your furbaby, like Whiskers or Nugget. However, if you’re looking for a more unique moniker, don’t be afraid to be creative. Having a name that puts a fun spin on singer, actress or character’s name you like can be a great choice, too. Names like Harey Potter, Mary Hoppins or Giorgio Arbunny are examples of how you can explore that category.

If you don’t want to go that path, you can also pay tribute to a bunny from a storybook or from a classic movie, like Thumper from Bambi. No matter what you decide, the name you end up going with will be perfect.

Yorkie Begs Mom for Help ‘Reaching His Bone’ Like a Dramatic King

Thu, 04/25/2024 - 6:01pm

For having such a small body, you wouldn't think that Yorkies would be the sassiest dogs on the planet, but somehow, they manage to be just that. They must be aware that they're also the cutest pups on the planet or something, because it's actually kind of unreal.

Take, for example, this video from Monday, April 22nd. One little Yorkie absolutely lost his mind over his favorite bone and the fact that he couldn't reach it. His commitment to getting mama to help him out is seriously amazing:

@zillatheyorkie

Anytime I see a particularly spicy Yorkshire Terrier, I've learned to always check and see if it's @zillatheyorkie. You want to know something else? It usually is.

Related: Yorkie Giving Unborn Sibling His Favorite Bone Is the Best Big Brother

Zilla the Yorkie (government name: Godzilla) is many things, including my favorite TikTok Yorkie. He's a big brother, he's the king of the couch, and he is not afraid to tell you how it's supposed to be. He loves a good snuggle, but he also likes to play - and when he wants to play, he knows how to get mom's attention.

Here, that's exactly what's happening. He could totally reach that bone if he really wanted to, but he doesn't. He wants mom to get it, and she gives in!

Does My Dog Need Help to Play?

Depending on how you've raised your puppy, they'll have varying levels of dependency. Some dogs are happy to go off and play independently for a while, while others may not find that satisfying - they're not being annoying, their brains truly don't work that way!

No matter how "independent" your dog is, you're going to need to have dedicated playtime with them every day. The kind of playing they can do by themselves isn't very active: they can't toss their own balls or frisbees, set up their own foraging enrichment activities, or take themselves on walks. They're limited, basically, to sitting and chewing. That's not good enough!

If your dog wants you to play with them, you'll notice them:

  1. Bringing you their toy
  2. Whining or barking at you
  3. Shoving their nose or the toy into your lap or hands repeatedly
  4. Staring at you while wagging their tail
  5. Sighing heavily

Zilla has it right: pretend to need help, and then mom is already holding the bone. She literally has to play with it. It's the law! Probably. Luckily for him, his parents both know the new baby has been tough on Zilla and his routines, so they're doing all they can to help him feel special!

Precious Cat's Tiny Meows Over Getting a 'Pup Cup' Are Full of Sweetness

Thu, 04/25/2024 - 4:45pm

As someone who loves cats and dogs in equal measure, I have to admit that when it comes to living life outside of the house, dogs really do have it made. While not everywhere in the general public is dog friendly, there are enough spaces that are to make it worth it to take your dog out and about with you on a regular basis, from parks to restaurants. And don't even get me started about pup cups, the treat commonly found at Starbucks and other coffee shops to treat dogs who stop by with their humans. Why aren't there cat cups?!

While society isn't as cat friendly as it should be just yet, we do have a solution to that whipped cream flavored problem. Apparently, cats like pup cups, too... despite the name that might suggest otherwise.

@mibicket

when miss biscuit knows what the word pup cup means

♬ original sound - mibicket

On Wednesday, April 24, @mibicket took to TikTok to share just how much her cat, Miss Biscuit, not only enjoys eating a pup cup, but she also knows what Pup Cup means as soon as she hears the phrase come out of her mom's mouth.

In the video, Miss Biscuit and her mom are in what looks like the Starbucks drive thru when she hears her order a pup cup and immediately is at attention.

Those tiny little meows don't stop until her mom gets the pup cup and reaches over so her kitty can enjoy it. That's one happy cat!

Of course, Miss Biscuit already has a fan club full of people in the comments who are more than willing to take her back to the coffee shop to grab another Pup Cup anytime.

One commenter wrote, "Tell miss biscuit I said 'pspspsps.'"

Are Pup Cups Safe for Cats?

While cups full of whipped cream aren't exactly the best thing you can add to your cat's diet, it's also not going to hurt them if they eat one every once in awhile!

According to Catster. cats probably do love whipped cream, but since it can upset their stomachs, it's important to limit how often they eat it. But don't worry — there's nothing in it that's toxic to cats, so they won't be harmed by enjoying this treat during the occasional coffee date.

You can also ask the barista for a "cat sized" portion, which should help your cat avoid overindulging.

As long as it's just a once-in-awhile treat for your cats, pup cups are perfectly fine for them to enjoy. Besides, if they don't get to eat them all the time, they'll stay even more special to your kitty!

After Jonathan got his "zoomies out" and said hello to everyone, he was ready to jump into his photoshoot.

"I took my place and was ready to dazzle everyone with my good looks," Jonathan said in the voiceover.

At first, Jonathan doesn't want to wear the birthday hat, which he jokes about during the voice-over. "I refused it at first, but lucky for them, and I guess unlucky for me, I can be bribed with treats," he shared.

In the comments, people were happy to praise Jonathan the 15th for his birthday.

"Aww, Jonathan the 15th, you grew a lot," one person wrote

"Happy birthday," another shared. "Such a good boy."

"The goodest boy ever," wrote someone else.

"You're the best boi," another viewer added.

Facts About Jonathan XV, the UConn Mascot

Jonathan arrived at UConn's campus in June 2023, starting as a mascot-in-training. He's the 15th canine mascot, hence his name, and spends time learning from Jonathan XIV.

"Jonathan XV is a purebred Siberian Husky who was part of a six-puppy litter born in Ontario, Canada, on April 19. Handlers picked him up on June 17—National Mascot Day—and brought him back to Connecticut," UConn said at the time.

Jonathan XIV joined UConn in 2014 as a puppy and is now ten years old and known as the "mascot emeritus."

And thanks to Jonathan XIV's help in showing Jonathan XV the ropes, he seems to have taken to his role like a champ.

“He’s truly a natural when it comes to games,” Laura Centanni, a co-chair of APO’s Husky Committee, said. “The first time I took him to a game, it was like I could see him absorbing the energy of the crowd, and he immediately stood up straighter and had this intense light in his eyes."

“I’ve never seen him more focused than when he’s courtside at a basketball game – except maybe when he’s waiting for his dinner,” she adds.

Tiny Foster Kitten Delivers the Cutest Attitude While Demanding 'Snackies'

In a short but hilarious 43-second video, we meet Tato, a small foster kitten with bright orange fur and a really funny way to get his human's attention.

Related: Kitten Goes Viral for Having the Cutest Little 'Picasso' Face

We catch up with the kittens when it's almost mealtime, and the orange kitten has a lot to say.

The video was taken in the kitchen, right around the time the kittens usually eat their meal. And don't let the kitten's size fool you because his loud voice totally overpowers his small size. He knows how to use his voice by yelling at his humans to get them to prepare his food faster.

But sometimes, Tato is surprised by his voice, and it can get a little out of control.

During one of his screams to his human, Tato lost his balance and did a funny "potato rol; before getting back up and continuing to yell.

In the comment section, people enjoyed the meow and had their own giggles.

"A floof with attitude. I'm here for it," one person wrote.

"Tato's inside voice is the crispiest screams, I mean meows," someone else explained.

"Gimme the orange unmannered orange Tato," someone else added. "I want to give him [a] kiss."

How Much Food Should a Kitten Have in One Day?

According to bechewy, when a kitten is around 8 weeks old, they can eat and drink on their own, and they can start eating dry food soaked in warm water to make it easier for them to chew.

The site explains, "Most 8-week-old kittens weigh around 2 pounds, which means they should be taking in, on average, 162 kilocalories per day."

When a kitten is between 8 weeks and 10 months old, they're really going through a big growth spurt, which means they'll need more tailored food plans based on their weight since different breeds grow differently.

In addition to feeding kittens based on weight, they will also need to be exposed to different food textures.

"Early in life, cats develop strong preferences for how food should taste and what it should feel like in their mouths," bechewy explains.

"Offer your kitten a variety of foods (for example, dry, wet, and different flavors and shapes) if you want to keep all your options open. However, you’ll have to keep exposing them to a variety of foods as an adult if you want to avoid food rejection in the future.

Thankfully, Tato's foster parents won't have to wonder if their cat is hungry because he ha sno problem telling them he is.
