Independence Day Weekend Draws Crowds To Many Local Events

The July 4 weekend was celebrated each day and night throughout the New Haven, Washington, Hermann and Augusta neighborhoods. Lots of activities were happening in all of the cities.

In New Haven, the new pool opened to very good crowds anxious to get some relief from the heat and take a dip in in the cool pool water. JR Branson was proud that New Haven had made the commitment to build the new pool and show that New Haven is a progressive and growing community. The lazy river proved to be very popular for parents and kids. All of the new features were being explored by the residents, such as the zero grade entry, allowing parents to gradually bring their child into the pool. There is also a handicap ramp and rail for those needing a little help entering the pool. Kids were shooting basketball at the poolside rim, climbing the climbing wall to the top, and taking a turn on the double slide.

The weather was perfect for a pool opening, and also for an opening at the newly refurbished Emporium in Augusta. The Emporium marks more progress in the Hoffmann’s investment in Augusta. The grand opening was held Friday with wine tastings from the local wineries and snacks from various vendors. Visitors were also treated to viewing the new renderings of the proposed hotel to be built right in town.

Hermann held their fireworks on Saturday, with a large crowd assembling at the riverfront to watch the display. On Sunday, Hermann held a patriotic band concert at the amphitheater.

To cap off the Independence Day weekend, Washington held its fireworks display in the city park, but several townspeople anticipated there might be a good view from the bridge, and they were correct. The downtown landmark buildings and the Missouri River framed the fireworks display beautifully, giving it a feel of an old world European river city.

With beautiful weather and lots of activities close by, we can be thankful for being part of such a wonderful community.
