Jammin’ At The Jam Hut

It would be tough to categorize Louis Klingert’s business known as the Jam Hut that is located off Highway 100 between Berger and Hermann. Locals go there for the ice cold beer and karaoke on Friday and Saturday nights, but you can also buy appliances, park your RV, rent a guest room, rent a U-Haul or even play volleyball.

Louis originally built the Jam Hut as a place where musicians could congregate and “jam.” Klingert also has guitars, a piano, and a full drum kit for customers to play if they are so inclined. Karaoke is also featured and it is pretty common for the karaoke singer to be accompanied by fellow customers and Klingert on more popular songs.

It is a unique place, and many people have come through and make it a yearly pilgrimage to return and partake of the music jam and karaoke. Klingert started the Jam Hut back in 2013, and it was slow going in the early years with just a few patrons stopping in for beers on their way home from Hermann. Since then, the traffic has increased with Klingert adding other services like the U-Haul and the RV Park.

During the course of various musicians coming to play, Klingert started playing a stand up bass and would sit in at various other jams in Washington and St. Louis to gain experience in his bass playing. The experience paid off and has led to Klingert forming a band known as the Rowdy Wranglers, who play at local venues on the weekends. Some people think that the Jam Hut is a place to buy jam, and so Louis also has a line of jams for sale.

The Jam Hut is a place that is many things to the patrons who stop in, and it is a unique place and certainly memorable experience for everyone.
