Lime Scooters Squeezed Out Of Downtown, Still Makes Splash
This past week marked the arrival of Lime Scooters in New Haven. It was found that, unfortunately, downtown’s lack of adequate cellular bandwidth prevented Lime Scooters from placing their scooters there.
The scooters need a good cellular signal so that they can complete the rental transaction via credit cards and to also track the scooters once they have been used in order to be rounded up and located at the end of the day. They need to be re-charged overnight by local people who are known as “juicers.”
Despite the elimination of Downtown as a site for the scooters, Lime has placed a dozen or so in the parking lot just across from Active 24/7 and several more in the park. It has been observed that mostly young riders have been making use of the scooters, and that they have been very well received by them.
Scooter riders have been observed all over town and the riders seem quite happy. Local volunteer fireman, Donovan Wood, has been quite pleased with the arrival of the scooters, and remarked that he was thankful that Lime scooter had chosen New Haven as one of their locations.
