No Move to Cancel School Day of eclipse

Saying concerns cited by other area school districts don’t really apply here, New Haven school officials have no current plans to cancel classes next Monday for the total solar eclipse.

The Washington, Union, Meramec Valley and St. Clair school districts have all cancelled school on August 21 in recent weeks, pointing to potential problems with safety and traffic.

Washington had initially planned to stay open but reversed its decision last Thursday, saying it would rather err on the side of caution, according to reports.

“Their concerns are traffic and congestion and being able to get around,” Superintendent Josh Hoener told the school board Wednesday night. “I think the thing that makes me feel better in New Haven is that all of our bus routes run on the north side of 100.
