Pink House To Be ‘In The Pink’

The Board of Adjustments met to discuss the color options for the repainting of Dee Dann’s Pink Hous, which is now owned by the Moran family. The meeting was chaired by Rosalie Laune via zoom. Other board members were present at the public works building except for David Burkes, who was also on zoom.

The Morans had several presentation boards on easels around the meeting room and presented their concerns over repainting their house with the original pink color.

At times, the board would drift into maintenance issues, but Laune was quick to point out that they were only meeting to solve the color issue and not maintenance problems. Lee Riegel had prepared remarks, but board member David Burkes left no doubt that the pink house had two options for paint colors. David stated that he was on the Board of Planning and Zoning back in 2009 when they approved the downtown historic district color palette. He also stated that the existing houses and businesses were “grandfathered” in and could repaint with their existing colors in the future.

As an extreme measure, David gave the example of Louis Klingert’s Tomboy Store with the flowers and blue sky painted on the front facade. Louis can repaint the flowers and blue sky in the future if he chooses or he can paint from one of the approved colors.

The board eventually voted unanimously in favor of the pink house to be repainted pink. Reigel and the Morans shook hands after the vote and most people felt the board had rendered a fair decision. The Morans promptly contacted Gary Willimann, who confirmed he is going to tackle the job of refreshing the infamous pink house.
