R-II Prepares for Eclipse as Learning Event for Students

Franklin County R-II School is preparing for the upcoming total solar eclipse as an educational event, with parents supervising the youngest students for safety’s sake.

“We’re excited about it and we’ve got plans made so I think it will be good,” said Superintendent Carol Laboube. “We’ve got all the glasses in. The parents I’ve talked to are planning to come.”

With eclipses so rare, most adults have never experienced a total eclipse, and their children may not understand the importance of viewing an eclipse safely, even with proper instruction. For that reason, students in grades K-3 must be accompanied by a parent.
