Vets Return From DC Trip to Memorials

Honor Flight Includes Three From New Haven Area

Three veterans from the New Haven area were among 35 from Franklin County welcomed home Saturday night from an Honor Flight to visit memorials in Washington, DC.

Franklin County Honor Flight is a non-profit group that flies veterans on a one-day trip to see the World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War memorials. They also visit Arlington National Cemetery and other sites if there is enough time.

Saturday’s trip was the 45th Honor Flight since the program started in 2007. The veterans were accompanied by 16 guardians, who take care of those who need help, and three Franklin County Honor Flight team members. The trip is free of charge for veterans.

The group returned to a ceremony about 8 p.m. Saturday at Lambert Field in St. Louis, where they were greeted by a cheering throng of family and friends holding signs and waving flags. Each veteran walked down the ramp through a corridor of flags held by St. Clair Jr. ROTC members and other volunteers.
