Wording Chosen For Pedestrian Bridge Gives 'Established' Date

On Span Over Highway 100

An arched pedestrian bridge emblazoned with the words “New Haven established 1856”  has the blessing of the New Haven Board of Aldermen.

The board approved the wording for the proposed span over Highway 100 at its June meeting.

The board considered four options for the lettering at the meeting last week—“Welcome to New Haven” was one and the others were “City of New Haven,” simply “New Haven,” and “New Haven established 1856.”  Three of the designs had the city logo in the middle, which will be removed at the board's request.
