Virginia Mae “Ginny” McDowell

Virginia Mae "Ginny" McDowell, 84, of Owensville, Mo., passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Gasconade Manor Nursing Home in Owensville.

She was born on April 26, 1934, to Ike and Agnes (Lanier) Collins at Kissimmee, FL.

She was united in marriage to Walter J. McDowell, Jr. on June 11, 1955, at Folkston, GA.

Virginia was the founder of New Haven Florist in New Haven. She and her husband, Mack, lived and traveled all of the United States. Her favorite thing was her joy of gardening and working on silk flowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ike and Agnes Collins; husband, Walter J. McDowell, Jr.; brother, Tommy Collins; and sisters, Bettylou Bryant and Merlene Lundy.

She is survived by her daughter, Kim Monroe and husband, John Jr. of Owensville; brothers, Fred Collins and wife, Cindy, of McAlpin, FL and Donald Collins and wife, Sandra, of Kenansville, FL; grandson, John Colby Monroe and wife, Julie, of Affton; and family friend, Chris Miller of New Haven.

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 28 from 10-11 a.m. at Gottenstroeter Chapel in Owensville.

Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the Chapel with Rev. Kevin Sullivan officiating.  Burial will be in Owensville City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer's Association.
