Carol Kuhlmann - Iron Woman Of Running
Carol Kuhlmann has quietly become the Iron Woman of Running in the New Haven and Washington communities. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Town & Country 5K or 10K Run-Walk, and Carol is the only person who has participated in every year of the run.
She mentioned that, up until a few years ago, the run was a 5 mile one with the distance changing over to metric and adding walkers. Kuhlmann has won a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in every race in her age categories over the years. She started at age 52 and went on to represent New Haven for the next 25 years.
This year, after an injury, she decided to power walk instead of run. Saturday morning, Carol brought home the 3rd place trophy in her age category with a time of 49 minutes, 20 seconds.
Besides running in the fair run, she has participated in dozens of other regional competitions. She is a quiet force in the world of New Haven athletics and has singularly and consistently performed with excellence and grace.
