Shamrocks Lose Grip Of Linn In 16-1 Home Opener Loss

The Shamrocks (0-4) fell 16-1 to Linn (3-4) in their home opener on Wednesday, Mar. 27.

Austin Bradley was the only Shamrock who could luck themselves to a run against Linn, and he did so when Ryan Steinbeck sacrificed himself on a groundout in the bottom of the 3rd.

New Haven trailed Linn 2-1 until the final three innings when the Tigers clawed through the bases for 14 runs.

Head coach Aaron Peirick’s message to the Shamrocks after the game was that  “you got to compete for seven innings.” He was still proud of his squad for keeping the game contested until the top of the 5th.

Peirick praised Trevor Hinten for his strong showing on the mound in the first four innings, saying, “he pitched himself out of jams several times.” Hinten launched four strikeouts while giving up four walks, three hits and two earned runs.

Bradley pitched briefly during the top of the 5th. He delivered one strikeout but allowed seven earned runs, four walks and three hits.

Steinbeck came in for relief and remained on the mound until the game ended. He fired off two strikeouts but surrendered six earned runs, five hits and two walks.

The Shamrocks’ pitching rotation struck out seven but gave up 15 earned runs, 11 hits and ten walks.

New Haven’s batting lineup tallied five hits, a run, an RBI and a walk with 25 at-bats.

Bradley grabbed a run and a hit.

Steinbeck drove in an RBI and made a hit.

Michael McFerrin racked up a team-high two hits, while Brandon Canania had one.
