Post 366 Battles Washington In Home Opener
New Haven Legion Post 366 A tackled two tough Washington teams in their home-opening doubleheader on Thursday, June 6. They fell 22-5 against Post 218 Red (8-0) and lost 18-1 to Post 218 A Navy (6-5).
Post 218 Red
New Haven racked up five runs, 4 RBIs, four hits and six walks on 21 at-bats in their 22-5 loss to Post 218 Red.
Carter Humphrey finished the game with a team-high of two hits, as well as a run, an RBI and a walk.
Parker Thurman led Post 366 with two runs and also recorded a walk.
Evan Scheer brought in three walks and an RBI.
Corbin Sadler landed home and a hit.
Brady Traub logged a hit and an RBI.
Ayden Keen made a score.
Anthony Groner bagged an RBI and a walk. He was also New Haven’s starting pitcher, striking out five on the mound while giving up six earned runs, six hits and two walks.
Keen came out of the bullpen during the top of the 3rd. He pounded four strikeouts and surrendered six earned runs, five hits and two walks.
Scheer finished the game with two strikeouts, allowing two hits and a walk.
Post 218 A Navy
New Haven capped the night off with an 18-1 loss to Post 218 A Navy. They tallied seven hits, a run and an RBI on 22 batting appearances.
A. Groner was Post 366’s only scorer in their second battle and also delivered two hits. He made it home at the bottom of the first. A. Groner stole third, then capitalized on Traub’s sacrificed ground out to reel in a score.
Scheer captured a team-high three hits, while Creten Page and James Orf notched one.
Humphrey was New Haven’s starting pitcher. He struck out five batters while surrendering eight earned runs, seven hits and three walks.
Page filled in for relief at the top of the 3rd. He pounded two strikeouts and allowed nine earned runs and eight hits.
Luke Dierer was the final pitcher to take the mound for Post 366. He gave up two hits, an earned run and a walk.
