Cross Country Goes The Extra Mile In 2023 (Recap)

New Haven High School’s cross country team ran to great lengths in 2023. Six members went the extra mile in their efforts, with three qualifying for state.

Sydney Grubb finished 16th at the Class 1 District 3 Tournament and 72nd at the state level. Her highest season placement was 5th at the St. James Invitational, and her quickest time was 22:17.29 in Linn. She will continue her cross-country career at William Woods University this coming fall.

Janelle Cronin also ran at state and placed 43rd with a season-best time of 22:55.60. Her top finish was ninth at the district competition.

Ryan Steinbeck was New Haven’s only boy to qualify for state. He marked a season-best time of 19:43.50 at the Class 1 Tournament, taking 118th. Steinbeck’s highest-ranked placement last season was 24th at districts.

Ethan Hale’s top finish was 14th at the Four Rivers Conference Championships at 22:48.95.

Michael McFerrin recorded his best time of 24:04.05 in Belle and highest placement of 21st at the Hermann Invitational.

Chase Patterson’s top placement in 2023 was 20th at the conference tournament. His quickest runtime was 23:38.57 at New Haven’s home invitational.
