Ardene Schoening

Ardene Amanda Schoening of Hermann Rural Route, went to be with Jesus in the early hours of Wed., Feb. 2, 2022, at the New Haven Care Center, at the age of 88. Ardene was born in Washington, MO on April 11, 1933, the daughter of the late Herman & Welma (Zastrow) Topel.

She was united in marriage to Calvin F. Schoening on May 20, 1951, at St. James United Church of Christ, Stony Hill, MO. Calvin preceded her in death on August 4, 1995.

Ardene was a lifelong member of St. James Evangelical Church, Stony Hill. She was active in the St. James Women’s Guild, taught Sunday School and VBS, and her and Calvin were faithful servants for the St. James church picnics, and many church events.

Ardene was first and foremost a farmer’s wife as the homemaker. She always had a garden, chickens, and a cow to milk. After raising her daughters, she also worked at Langenburg Hat Factory in New Haven and for Swiss Meat Company in Swiss, MO.

In retirement, she enjoyed her free time going to Senior Centers in New Haven, Gerald, or Owensville to play pinochle & bingo. She delivered Meals on Wheels for many years in the Gerald area. She enjoyed reading, going to musical shows, working at & attending county fairs, attending church and church activities, but most importantly, her time with family and activities on the farm. Her family was everything to her and she was loyal, encouraging, and supportive to the end.

Ardene leaves a lasting legacy always to be remembered. She is survived by two daughters, Sherry Traub and husband Alan, of Hermann, MO and Mary Ann Boland, of Washington, MO; three granddaughters, Callie Traub, Holts Summit, MO, Amber Boland, of St. Louis, MO, and Brianne Boland, of Austin, Texas; and a sister Lavern Coon and husband Jim, of Owensville, MO and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister, Arlene Hahne, and a brother, Maynard Topel.

Visitation was held Monday, Feb. 7 from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. James Evangelical Church, Stony Hill, where funeral services followed at 11 a.m., with Rev. Tom Lloyd officiating.

Burial was at St. James Cemetery, Stony Hill, MO. Memorials may be given to St. James Church or the Stony Hill Fire Dept. C/O Toedtmann & Gross Funeral Home. The family would request and encourage the use of masks for personal safety.
