Gilbert E. Brune, 89, New Haven, passed away Monday, October 25, 2021, at Mercy Hospital in Washington.

Gilbert, son of the late Martin and Clara Brune, was born February 7, 1932, in New Haven. He was united in marriage to Lucille Biermann April 12, 1953, at the Methodist Church, Leslie. Gilbert was an active member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Port Hudson, where he served on many committees and held many elected positions.

Professionally, he began working on the family farm, located off of Bucklick Creek Road, at an early age. In addition to his dedication to his farm, he also held multiple other jobs as an electrician and mechanic, including his last job running an equipment repair service from his farm. Upon retiring from his repair service, he continued crop and cattle farming. In 2018 his farm attained Century Farm status.

While farming could also have been considered his hobby, Gilbert loved talking and visiting with people, enjoyed the challenge of repairing almost anything, and liked deer & turkey hunting on his family farm.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Clara Brune; his wife, Lucille; two brothers, Edwin and Elmer Brune; and one sister, Vera Kamper.

He is survived by two sons, Dennis G. Brune and wife LaRayne, and Paul W. Brune and wife Gretchen, all of New Haven; one daughter, Donna Sue Miller and husband Robert, Fenton; one sister, Verna Borgmann of Washington; eight grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral service were held Saturday, October 30 at 11 a.m. at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Port Hudson, with the Rev. James Wilshusen officiating, with a lunch and reception following.

Burial was held at the church cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Mercy Hospice, the Alzheimer’s Association or Ebenezer Lutheran Church, in care of Toedtmann-Grosse Funeral Home.
