Harold Oscar Schutt

Harold Oscar Schutt was born January 1, 1934, near Berger, in Franklin County, Missouri. He was the son of Oscar K. & Ida Caroline (Rohlfing) Schutt. Harold departed this life at Mercy Heart Hospital, Creve Coeur, Missouri, on Friday, September 27, 2019, at the age of 85 years.

He was baptized at St. John's Evangelical parsonage by Rev. E.H. Dickbernd on February 10, 1934. He was confirmed at Bethany Evangelical Church by Reve. H. Hoeppner on March 30, 1947.

On July 29, 1972, he was united in marriage to Joyce Schneider at Salem United Church of Christ, near California, Missouri, by Rev. Marvin Kirchoff.

Harold graduated from Lyon School in 1948 and began farming with his father. He was a partner in D & H Sales from 1962 to 1973. He continued to operate a diversified family farm until his retirement. Raising crops and livestock was his life-long vocation. He loved caring for the land settled by his ancestors.

Mr. Schutt served on the Franklin County ASC Board for 10 years, the Gasconade County R-I School Board for 15 years, the Central Electric Board for 6 years, and the Three Rivers Electric Co-operative Board for over 26 years.

He was a lifelong member of Bethany United Church of Christ, near Berger, where he served several times on the Church Council and the Cemetery Board. He was also Sunday School Superintendent for several years. He was well known in the area for being involved in making homemade ice cream for the Bethany Church picnic for over 60 years.

Harold is survived by his wife, Joyce, of the home, his daughter, Sarah Atterberry & husband Aaron, of Fulton, Missouri, and his son, Matthew H. Schutt & wife Tammy, three grandsons, Charles, William, and Henry, and one granddaughter, Elizabeth, all of Berger, and a great grandson, Cooper of Wardsville, Missouri. Harold is also survived by two brothers, Howard Schutt & wife Barbara, of Herman, Missouri, and Delmar Schutt & wife Joan, of Holts Summit, Missouri, and nephews, nieces, cousins, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Hilda C. Crowder and husband Wayne, and Helen W. Brandt and husband Victor.

Visitation was held Tuesday, October 1, 2019 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Bethany United Church of Christ, near Berger, where funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
