Helen D. Carl, 92, of Berger, MO, passed away Sunday, Nov. 1, 2020 at New Haven Care Center, New Haven, Missouri.

Helen was born in Hermann, Missouri on August 13, 1928, the daughter of the late Herman L. & Meta (Heldman) Stolte.

Helen graduated from Hermann High School in 1946. She worked for International Shoe Company in Hermann for several years and also for her father who was an attorney in Hermann.

She was the widow of Merlin Carl. They were united in marriage on August 23, 1953, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Berger, MO.

Helen was a former member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Berger, where she served on the church council for many years and also taught Sunday school & bible school. She was also a member of the Riverview Chapter Order of Eastern Star #315, where she received her 50 year pin on the same day she was initiated 50 years later. She also served the city of Berger as treasurer for many years and worked as an election clerk/judge.

She enjoyed being with her family, going out dancing with her husband, gardening and canning, sewing and crocheting.

Helen is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Nixon & husband Thurman, of St. Charles, Missouri; a son, Wayne Carl & wife Sandy, of Berger, Missouri, by five grandchildren, Daniel Nixon, Rebecca Hill & husband Doug, Abigail Nixon, Erin Carl and Matthew Carl and two great grandchildren, Skylynn Nixon and Tre Hill.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, by two brothers, Melvin & Edgar Stolte and a sister, Hilda Buchholtz.

Visitation was held Saturday, Nov. 7 from 10 - 11 a.m. at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, Hermann, where funeral services followed at 11 a.m.

Memorials may be given to Berger Community Volunteer Fire Dept., Shriners Hospital or St. John’s Cemetery. C/O Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home.
