Herbert Gene Horstmann, 88, of Wildwood, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at Mercy Hospital, Creve Coeur, Missouri.

Herbert was born in Brentwood, Missouri on December 12, 1931, the son of the late Alvin and Ella (Dahl) Horstmann.

He was united in marriage to Hilda Edna Hahne on April 23, 1955, at St. James Evangelical Church, Stony Hill, Missouri.

Herbert proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked as a carpenter for Tarlton Corp. in St. Louis for over 40 years. In his free time he enjoyed farming in his early years and he loved collecting junk.

Herbert is survived by a son, Jim Horstmann and wife Susan, of Wildwood, Missouri; a daughter, Sue Rosa and husband Jerry, of Newburg, Missouri; a daughter, Sheryl Schaeg and husband Keith, of Wildwood, Missouri; a son, Don Horstmann, of New Melle, Missouri; a son, Greg Horstmann and wife Karen, of Wildwood, Missouri; a daughter, Stacy Heckmann and husband John, of Wildwood, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Darlene Schneider, of Swiss, Missouri, by 13 grandchildren, Lisa, Rochelle, Jr., Adam, Kelly, Sara, Kyle, Colin, Nick, Allison, Grant, Trevor and Megan and 8 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers, Ervin and Ralph Horstmann, and two sisters, Irene Schinzing and Alice Walkenhorst.

An outdoor Visitation was held Saturday, September 26 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at St. James Evangelical Church, Stony Hill, Missouri, where outdoor funeral services followed at 11:30 a.m., with Rev. Tom Lloyd officiating.

Burial was at St. James Cemetery, Stony Hill, Missouri, with full military honors.
