James B. Thomann

James B. Thomann, 77, passed away Monday, April 10, 2017, at Memorial Medical Center.

He was born June 20, 1939, in New Haven, MO, to Henry and Eldina (Kelley) Thomann. James was the grandson of Hattie and O.J. Thomann of New Haven.

James was a US Navy veteran where he served with the “Chuting Stars” parachute team. He served in Antarctica with Operation Deep Freeze as jump master of the Para Rescue Team and Helicopter Crew. James was an ultralight instructor for many years in Florida. He was a member of the American Legion, Old Antarctic Explorers Association, Disabled American Veterans and Paralyzed Veterans Association.

He is survived by his son, Troy Battle; two grandchildren; sister, Jacqueline (Gene) Hayes; nieces, Julia Curry and Kerry Tomlin; nephews, John Schroeder and Scott Hayes; and former wife, Joyce Battle.

Memorial Gathering was from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2017, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home. Inurnment followed in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
