James K. Altemeyer was called to his eternal home suddenly on Jan 6, 2022 at Mercy Hospital St. Louis County.

James was born Jan 11, 1971 in Washington, Missouri, the son of Kenneth and Betty Altemeyer, nee` Ohse. On Feb 14, 1971 James was baptized into God’s family at Ebenezer Lutheran Church and reaffirmed his baptism with confirmation there in 1985.

James started his working career at Washington Lumber Co. while in high school. His interest in building came at an early age and he followed in the footsteps of his grandfather and uncle to become a carpenter.

Over the years James worked for several contractors. In early 2000 he worked on the Shaw Nature Reserve Project of installing log cabins on the grounds for establishing weekend retreats. He had an appreciation for antiques, old things and finally found his calling in building restoration. Upon his passing, he was working for G. K. Meyer Restoration, restoring old barns, log cabins and old houses.

James enjoyed being outdoors. His hobbies included collecting arrowheads, hunting mushrooms, collecting odd and interesting rocks and of course spending time outdoors with his son Luke. He enjoyed sitting around campfires and spending time on a creek or river with many friends. He enjoyed history and watching the history channel. He was generous with his time to help friends and family with construction projects. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

James is survived by his son Luke James Altemeyer, his special friend Tina Damschroeder, his parents Ken and Betty Altemeyer, his brother Kent Altemeyer all of rural New Haven, MO. and many relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Mathilde Ohse and Amelia Altemeyer and one nephew Eli Philipp Altemeyer.

Due to Covid, a private memorial service was held Jan 9, 2022 at Ebenezer Lutheran church and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Interment will be on his parents farm in Heatherly Cemetery.

James suffered a ruptured valve in his heart, which caused his death. He was a transplant donor.

Memorials can be made to Kenneth Altemeyer 220 Heatherly Lane New Haven, MO. for Luke Altemeyer’s educational fund.

The family was served by Oltmann Funeral Home.
