James A. Wurtz, 80, of New Haven, MO, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2023 at New Haven Care Center, New Haven, Missouri

 

James was born in St. Louis, Missouri on July 29, 1942, the son of the late George A Sr. & Margaret V. (Hertling) Wurtz.

 

He was the husband of Melva J. (Benz) Wurtz.  They were united in marriage on January 14, 1962, at St. James Church, Stony Hill, Missouri.

 

Jim is survived by his wife, Melva Wurtz, of New Haven; two sons, Jeffrey Wurtz & wife Tonya, of Washington, Missouri; and Jerry Wurtz & wife Frannie, of Stony Hill, Missouri;  a brother-in-law, Orville Benz & wife Mary Ann, of New Haven, Missouri, two sisters-in-law, Doris Wurtz, of Washington, Missouri and Marla Jones, of New Haven, Missouri; six grandchildren, Lacey Wurtz, of Springfield, Missouri; Sahara Meyer & friend Stephen McCabe, of Bangkok, Thailand; Justin Wurtz & wife Sarah, of Lake Ozark, Missouri; Austin Wurtz & wife Ellie, of Hermann, Missouri; Sayard Harris, of California, Missouri and Courtney Peppmueller, of St. Louis, Missouri, two great grandchildren. Peyton and Ty Harris, many nieces & nephews and a cousin, Leo Hertling & wife MaryAnne.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents George & Margaret, his step mother, Helen Wurtz and a brother, George Wurtz Jr

 

James was a member of St. James Evangelical Church, Stony Hill, where he was a member of the men's choir for many years,  and also Stony Hill Gun Club.

 

James worked for the Gasconade County Highway Depart.  He later became owner of H & R Block in Washington, Missouri, where he was a tax consultant for 29 years. 

 

James loved to deer hunt with his sons and many friends of Stony Hill, he loved to bowl and once bowled a perfect game of 300.  He also enjoyed watching TV game shows, especially Wheel of Fortune.

 

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 22nd from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, New Haven.

 

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at St. James Evangelical Church, Stony Hill.  Burial will be at St. James Cemetery, with Rev. Tom Lloyd officiating.

 

Memorials may be given to St. James Cemetery.
