Jerri Sue Wright, 78, of New Haven, MO, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2023, after a long, hard-fought battle with ALS. She was at home and surrounded in love by her oldest daughter, Cindy, and husband, Bill, at the time of her passing.

 

Jerri was born in Sacramento, California, on April 19, 1945, the daughter of the late Jerry & Lula Alta (Thomas) Young.

 

She was the wife of Bill Wright.  They met while Jerri was a police dispatcher and Bill was on the police force at the Yuba City Police Dept. They were married on September 10, 1966, in Sutter, California. 

 

Jerri was a member of the Community of Christ Church. She taught Sunday school when her daughters, niece, and nephews were younger.

 

Jerri is survived by her husband, Bill Wright, of New Haven; two daughters, Cynthia Taylor, of New Haven, Missouri; and Christine Troyer & husband Travis, of Rocky Mount, Missouri; two grandchildren, Jack & Sydney Troyer; a brother, Ray & wife Sandy Young, of Yuba City, California; and a sister, Judy Payne, of Lamoni, Iowa. Her niece Rasan (Young) Knox, and nephews Jeff & Gregory Payne, and Gabe Young and their families, all of whom loved very much.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents, oldest sister, Peggy Lou Pryor, and nephew, David Payne.

 

Jerri was an avid gardener, loved all animals, was witty, and her pen was mightier than the sword.  Jerri wore many hats, but she truly loved children and being an educator. She was a special education paraprofessional for the Lamoni, IA, School District. She went on to earn her BA in Elementary Education in 1999.  She finished her career continuing to serve as a special education paraprofessional at the Franklin County RII School District in New Haven.

 

A celebration of life will be held Friday, May 26th at 11:00 a.m. at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, New Haven. Memorials may be given to Franklin County Humane Society.
