Louis ‘Dugan’ Speckhals
Louis “Dugan” Speckhals, 88, of Hermann, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at Mercy Hospital, Creve Coeur, Missouri.
Louis was born in Berger, Missouri on September 10, 1931, a son of the late Louis I. and Anna (Garbs) Speckhals. He acquired the nickname of “Dugan” as a child, which stayed with him until his death.
He was the widower of Shirley L. (Schulte) Speckhals. They were united in marriage on May 5, 1956, at St. Paul Church, Berger, Missouri. Shirley preceded him in death on February 15, 2017.
Louis proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Paul Church Berger, Missouri, and St. George Church, Hermann, of the Hermann V.F.W. Post 4182, the Berger American Legion Post, Berger Volunteer Fire Department, and Hermann Knights of Columbus.
Louis worked for Ken-Roy Hatchery in Berger, Missouri as a delivery driver. He was an avid supporter of the Hermann High School Athletic Programs.
Louis is survived by four sons, Allen Speckhals and wife Sharen, of Hermann, Missouri; Kevin Speckhals, of Hermann, Missouri; Keith Speckhals and wife Teresa, of Fenton, Missouri; and Kurt Speckhals and wife Karen, of St. Charles, Missouri; by two sisters, Delvine Zimmermann, of Hermann, Missouri; and Dorothy Menke, of New Haven, Missouri; a brother, Robert Speckhals and wife Janie, of Hermann, Missouri; by 11 grandchildren, Cullen Speckhals and wife Catlyn, Branden Speckhals, Dustin Speckhals and wife Andrea, Jenna Speckhals, Renee Speckhals and fiance’ Rich, Casey McKenna and husband Steve, Laura Schuh and husband Nathan, McKenna Kalz and husband Daniel, Cole Kreder, Jessi Kreder, and Molly McGraw, and by 10 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Visitation was held Monday, March 9 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, Hermann. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. George Church.
Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery, Berger, Missouri. Memorials may be given to St. John's Cemetery, Hermann V.F.W. or St. Paul Church, Berger. C/O Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home.
