New Haven High’s Junior/Senior Prom A Roaring Good Time

New Haven High School’s Junior/Senior prom was held this past Saturday and the theme was the Roaring 20s, which had the gymnasium looking much like a casino or fancy nightclub from the 1920s. With drapery framing all the tables and a large sparkling centerpiece lighting the center, the effect was quite opulent.

Many teachers, along with Principal Wnuk, served the students at their tables on the gym floor until it was time for the main event entertainment - hypnotist, Mark Howell. Howell selected 10 students and then eliminated 2 of the students who were not proving to be susceptible to hypnosis. Howell then began to make hypnotic suggestions to the remaining students. He had them imagining that they were dancing, and believing that they were holding a puppy or a kitten when it was, in reality, their own shoes in hand. Howell also had them stand and dance to imagined music.

Their fellow students got quite a kick from the resulting humorous reactions and actions that the hypnotized students displayed while under the hypnotist’s spell. Howell then cleared all hypnotic suggestions from his assembled candidates and sent them back to their tables where they could see the photos and videos that their fellow students had snapped during their time on stage.

Following the hypnotist was a trivia contest, which was then followed by the crowning of this year’s king and queen. Kevin Gallardo and Ellie Westermeyer were the 2021 winners.
