Cross Country To Kick Off 2024 At Home Invitational
New Haven's cross country teams will open their season at a home invitational on Saturday, Sept. 7. at 8:30 a.m.
There are six senior Shamrocks this season: Janelle Cronin, Bailey Fleer, Payton Hecktor, Michael McFerrin, Ryan Steinbeck and Brookelyn Vogelsang.
Chase Patterson is the only junior.
The two sophomores are Ethan Hale and Weston Hecktor.
The high school squad will be joined by six new runners: freshmen Elliana Gevers, Cooper Groppe, Tymber Hawkins, Robert McCullough, James O’Fallon and Evan Scheer.
Three eighth graders, Easton Bailey, Liam James, and William Linkinhoker, will lead the middle school team.
Jackson Evans and Amelia Heimos are the two seventh graders.
Sixth graders Charlie Groppe and Harrison Payne will join the Shamrocks.
Wendy Scheer is the cross country head coach, and Hunter Tallent, a New Haven alum, will serve as an assistant.
Scheer says her team’s main goals as of right now are “building endurance, working on pacing and learning race strategies.” She went into further detail, saying, “Both our high school and middle school teams more than doubled in size from last year. With so many new runners, we are primarily looking to improve everyone’s individual times. We ultimately are looking to qualify both the boys and girls teams for the Class 1 state meet.”
