Girls Track And Field Rewrites The Books In 2024
New Haven’s girls track and field team broke new ground in 2024, hanging up new records on the board. They rose to the top of the podium, qualifying for eleven events at the Class 1 State Championship and medaling in five.
Aubri Meyer finished the highest out of the Shamrocks at state. She placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 11.4 meters. Meyer also took second at sectionals, districts and Four Rivers in the same event. She set a school record of 12.1 meters in the shot put during her senior year and was the district javelin champion.
Katie Holtmeyer earned a spot on the state podium for her eighth-place finish in the discus with a throw of 32.51 meters. She qualified after taking third at sectionals and fourth at districts. Holtmeyer also took second in the discus at conference.
The 4x200m relay team finished with all-state honors in eighth place at 1:53.09. They qualified after winning sectionals and taking third at the district and conference tournaments beforehand. The girls who passed the baton were Morgan Guehne, Brookelyn Vogelsang, Avery Strubberg and Isabella Groner.
The 4x400m relay squad also placed eighth at state, with a time of 4:37.40. Sydney Grubb, Guehne, Lesly Gerlemann and Groner were the Shamrocks who ran at the Class 1 State Championship. New Haven won districts earlier in the season and took second place at sectionals.
The girls’ 4x800m relay team placed 14th at state. They advanced to Jefferson City after taking second at sectionals and winning districts with a time of 11:25.20. The team’s runners were Grubb, Payton Hecktor, Gerlemann, and Janelle Cronin.
Alayna Lagemann made waves in her junior season, winning her conference in the discus. In the same event, she placed second at sectionals, third at districts and 13th at state. Lagemann also made a splash in the shot put, where she landed third at sectionals, districts and Four Rivers.
Grubb grabbed fourth place in the 1600m run at districts. She will continue her track and cross-country career at William Woods University.
Strubberg got third in the 400m dash at districts and fourth at sectionals.
Groner took second in the 200m dash at districts and third at sectionals.
The 4x100m relay team landed second place at sectionals and third at districts. Its runners were Emma Gerdes, Groner, Vogelsang and Guehne.
The JV 4x200m relay team won their conference with a time of 2:04.71. The Shamrocks who ran the track were Sarah Woodle, Sophie Unger, Hecktor, and Gerdes.
Cronin finished first in the JV pole vault last spring at conference. She also finished third in the district event and seized second in the 800m run at Four Rivers.
Woodle was the JV conference champion in the long jump. She clinched state after finishing fourth in the event at sectionals and third at districts.
Gerdes was dominant at the Four Rivers Tournament last season. She won the JV 100m and 200m dashes and landed in third place for the long jump.
Hecktor achieved her best finishes at conference, taking third in the JV 800m run and pole vault.
Claire Hellmann placed second in the JV shot put at conference.
