Girls Track And Field Wins State In 2017

The girls’ track and field team clinched the Class 1 State Championship in 2017, their first title in fifteen years. 

The Shamrocks won four events and medaled in nine. The tournament was held at Jefferson City High School from May 19 to 20. 

John Tucker, Mike Hagedorn, Jake Witthaus, Josh Hoener, and Aaron Peirick coached the 2017 team.

Once the athletes returned home, the city of New Haven celebrated them with a parade downtown and a ceremony in the high school gym.

Lauren Gerlemann landed in first place in the long jump, measuring 5.14 meters. She also took second in the triple jump at 10.6 meters, ninth in the discus and eleventh in the preliminary round of the 400m dash.

Kate Ruediger was the state javelin champion. She threw a whopping 38.86 meters, a school record that still stands today.

Emma Engelbrecht clinched the top spot in the triple jump at 10.95 meters. She also landed third in the long jump, recording a season-best 5.07 meters.

The 4x400m relay team won state at a speedy time of 4:12.63. Their runners were Ruediger, MacKenzie Bauer, Nichole Zeitzmann and Engelbrecht.

The 4x200m relay team medaled in third place. They finished at a season-high time of 1:49.29. The girls who passed the baton were Makenzie Munsinger, Bauer, Zeitzmann and Engelbrecht.

Lydia Pataky got 15th in the javelin, throwing 28.04 meters.

The 4x100m relay team finished tenth in the preliminary round. Its members were Munsinger, Bauer, Zeitzmann and Ruediger.

Gracie Allgaier qualified for state in the 3200m run but could not compete.
