High School Track And Field Dominates State
New Haven High School had nine track and field athletes clinch the podium at state. They medaled in four events at the Class 1 Championship, held in Jefferson City from May 23 to 24. Those who finished in the top eight of their events received hardware.
Alayna Lagemann capped off her high school career on top. The senior landed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 10.77 meters. She also took 14th place in the discus event (30.48m) at Adkins Stadium.
The girls’ 4x400-meter relay team finished third, clocking in at 4:12.83. Its runners were Morgan Guehne, Avery Strubberg, Ellie Baumbach, Lydia Payne and Alivia Guehne.
The 4x200-meter relay squad also brought home hardware at fifth place. Emme Bates, Isabella Groner, Brookelyn Vogelsang and M. Guehne ran in a time of 1:53.78.
The 4x800-meter relay runners medaled at seventh, crossing the finish line in 10:31.04. Payne, Baumbach, Strubberg and A. Guehne took the baton.
The 4x100-meter relay team finished eleventh in the prelims at 53.90 seconds. Its members were M. Guehne, Vogelsang, Groner and Bates.
Dylan Baker landed tenth in the pole vault at state (3.2m), while Janelle Cronin ranked twelfth (2.3m).
Vogelsang leaped to 13th place in the triple jump (9.33m) and 15th in the long jump (4.47m).
Payne finished 10th in the 800-meter run (2:30.98), A. Guehne took 11th in the 400-meter dash (1:02.18) and Skyler Woodle landed 15th in the 300-meter hurdles (53.03).
New Haven’s varsity girls ranked 17th at state out of fifty-five Class 1 teams, racking up 17 points.
