Legion Juniors Win Unexpected Title as No. 8 Seed in Tournament
Seeded eighth in an eight-team tournament, New Haven Post 366 juniors shocked the area American Legion baseball world with a Ninth District Tournament championship run that concluded July 8.
After falling 10-0 in the first tournament game, the local AA team beat third-seeded Washington Post 218 in the winner-take-all second game at Washington’s Ronsick Field, 9-3.
“Our first game kind of killed us, 10 nothing, we didn’t look very good,” said New Haven Post 366 Manager Hansi Bloch. “It looked like it might just be over. But then the second game we just came alive. We hit the ball. We had good pitching.”
