New Haven Baseball Clashes With Rival Bearcats, Falls 15-0

New Haven (0-3) lost 15-0 to rivals Hermann (1-4) in the 7th-place matchup at the Four Rivers Conference tournament on Wednesday, Mar. 20. In their first two rounds, they fell 15-0 to Pacific and 6-2 to St. James.

In the top of the 1st, Reid Luekenhoff singled on a ground ball, and Jacob Gerdes drew a walk to give the Shamrocks some life, but the Bearcats shut them down before they could reach home plate.

Hermann fired on all cylinders once they stepped up to bat and seized a 10-0 lead by the end of the 2nd inning.

To kick off the 3rd, Ryan Steinbeck rocketed a grounder and clutched second base on a passed ball, and he secured third on a wild pitch after Luekenhoff’s walk. Despite being close to home, the Shamrocks were put out of luck again, as two strikeouts cemented their chances.

The Bearcats put the final nail in the coffin with five runs at the bottom of the 4th and ended the game by mercy rule.

Michael McFerrin stepped in for relief during Hermann’s last offensive outing, giving up three hits and two walks.

The Shamrocks tallied two hits and two walks at bat.
