Shamrocks Reach New Heights, Go The Distance In Track And Field

With the senior trip happening this past week, baseball was put on pause but track and field had some highlights for both middle and high school!

On Thursday, April 22, the middle school teams met for the Union Middle School Quad, where the girls came in third place overall with 72 points. Lewis Wray took second in the 400 Meters Dash with 1:02.49 on the clock. With the 4kg Shot Put, Tielar Mahurin took third with a 10.37m throw. Tielar then took first by throwing the 1kg Discus 34.36m.

The girls took first with the 4x200 Relay, their team of Lexi Yochim, Morgan Guehne, Bailey Fleer and Brookelyn Vogelsang crossed the finish at 2:06. For the 6lb Shot Put, Katie Holtmeyer sailed into first with a 9.92m throw and Alayna Lagemann followed in third with a 9.19m toss. They also took first and third with the 1kg Discuss throw, 23.51m and 19.44m respectively. Tatum Scheer leapt 4.16m in the Long Jump and landed in first place, then bounced through the Triple Jump with a 9.13m leap that also ended up putting her in first. Well done to all of New Haven Middle participants!

The middle school track meet at Hermann was cancelled due to the weather last week, and will be held on April 28.

The high school team met on April 22 for the Sullivan 9/10 Invitational. The girls team shone in several events. Gracie Steele took third in both the Long Jump and the Triple Jump, leaping 4.31m and 9.02m respectively. Aubri Meyer also took third in two separate events - hurling the Javelin 23.92m and the Shot Put 8.89m. The girls also took third at the 4x800 Meter Relay, the four person team consisting of Tressa Carver, Elaina Cronin, Haleigh Nieman, and Gracie Steele.

The next day, the high school team traveled to Montgomery County for the MCHS Quad. Tressa Carver took first in the 800 Meter Run and the 1600 Meter Run, with times of 2:59.68 and 6:39.86. Emily Delgado sped across the 100 Meter Hurdles, her 19.66 time leading her to third. Alaina Scott leapt an impressive 1.35m in the High Jump and landed in first, while Peyton Sumpter’s 9.2m Triple Jump finished second. Aubri Meyer threw the Shot Put 9.29m and reached first, but took third when she threw the Discus 26.29m. Lucy Hoener chucked a Javelin 30.2m for a second place finish, and Lexi Feldmann threw the Shot Put 9.15m to end up in second, just behind Aubri.

The boys picked up the speed, Logan Williams dashing into third with a 26.7 time for the 200 Meter Dash. He then reached third again, running the 400 Meter Dash in a time of 55.63. Hunter Tallent took first with a speedy 11:19.59 time for the 3200 Meter Run, then second for the 1600 Meter Run at a time of 5:05.96.
