Shamrocks Rock Track And Field Sectionals
New Haven's track and field team was in action at the Class 1 Sectional 1 meet hosted by South Callaway High School on Saturday, May 11. Seventeen Shamrocks qualified for state.
The girls were the runner-ups out of 25 teams and racked up 95.50 points.
The boys ranked tenth, chalking up 32 points against 24 other squads.
State Qualifiers
New Haven’s 4x200 meter relay squad won their event. The superteam, which consisted of Morgan Guehne, Brookelyn Vogelsang, Avery Strubberg and Isabella Groner, recorded a season-best time of 1:53.36.
The other three girls’ relay teams clinched second place in their competitions and will also advance to the sectional level.
The 4x100 squad of Vogelsang, Groner, Guehne and Emma Gerdes seized a season-best time of 53.72 seconds.
Sydney Grubb, Groner, Guehne and Strubberg raced to 4:28.25 in the 4x400-meter relay.
Then, the 4x800-meter relay squad of Payton Hecktor, Janelle Cronin, Grubb and Lesly Gerlemann finished second with a season-best time of 11:15.36.
Aubri Meyer was the runner-up for the shot put event with a height of 11.18 meters and the javelin competition with a throw of 33.50 meters. The star triathlete was also recently honored with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Scholar Athlete Award as a representative for New Haven.
Lewis Wray placed second in the long jump with a distance of 5.79 meters, while Sarah Woodle finished third at 4.58 meters.
Alayna Lagemann placed second in the discus event with a throw of 35.36 meters and third in the shot put at 10.61 meters.
Katherine Holtmeyer finished third in the discus contest with a throw of 34.85 meters.
Cronin placed third in the pole vault at 2.23 meters.
Groner took third in the 200-meter dash at 28.37 seconds.
Avery Strubberg was the fourth runner to cross the finish line in the 400-meter dash, marking a season-best time of 1:02.67.
The boys’ 4x200 meter relay team clinched fourth with a season-best 1:41.51. The squad included Austin Harrison, Wray, Jose Romo-Vazquez, Peyton Rice and Jack Feldmann.
