Volleyball Gets Set For New Season
The Shamrocks are digging into 2024 with high aspirations for another action-packed season and the hope of winning their fourth district title in five years.
New Haven had their season opener at Cuba on Tuesday, Sept. 3. Stats were unavailable at press time.
They will make their home debuts against Belle at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 5 and Fatima at 7 p.m. the day afterward.
Jaime Hoener will take the helm again as New Haven’s head coach. Emma Engelbrecht is the varsity assistant, junior varsity and freshman coach.
Hoener says she is “excited to develop all of the girls” and help them “improve their games,” including the veterans and newcomers.
She named seniors Avery Strubberg and Alayna Lagemann, then junior Megan Hoerstkamp as the “top leaders in practice” so far.
New Haven has ten more players to round out their varsity roster: Bailey Fleer, Emma Gerdes, Lesly Gerlemann, Isabella Groner, Morgan Guehne, Katie Holtmeyer, Rachel Otten, Maggie Hoener, Chesni Jones and Georgia Panhorst.
The junior varsity/C teams will include two sophomores, which are Chloe Overschmidt and Sophia Unger.
They will also have ten freshmen: Lillie Baker, Emmeliah Bates, Ellie Baumbach, Samantha Fleer, Alivia Guehne, Mollie Harrison, Nathalie Monroy, Lydia Payne, Brailynn Schweich and Emma Watson.
The Shamrocks have been reassigned to Class 1 District 4. They will be ranked alongside Brentwood, Crossroads College Preparatory, Crystal City, Oak Ridge, Principia and St. Paul Lutheran (Farmington).
