1968 Pop Song, With 17-Year-Old Singer From 'The Birthplace of Rock and Roll,' Is Still a Generational Hit 58 Years Later

Fri, 09/04/2026 - 11:57am

Some singers spend years trying to find their voice. Alex Chilton seemed to arrive with his fully formed.

In 1968, the 17-year-old Memphis singer possessed a deep, gravelly rasp so startlingly mature that anyone hearing the Box Tops’ “Cry Like a Baby” on the radio could be forgiven for imagining a seasoned soul singer behind the microphone.

Instead, it was a teenager from one of the most important music cities in America.

Born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, the city widely associated with the birth of rock ‘n’ roll and steeped in blues, soul and R&B, Chilton was still a student at Central High School when he was recruited after a talent show to join a local group called the DeVilles, who later became The Box Tops.

The young band played high school proms, fraternity parties and social clubs, soaking up the sounds coming out of their hometown while also absorbing the British Invasion happening across the Atlantic.

When later asked in a 1990 NPR interview whether he was influenced by the music of his time, Chilton didn’t hesitate.

“Very much, I don’t know you, you know, I guess I got totally swept up in the Beatles and things like that,” he said. “and then all the blues and rockabilly from the town I grew up in and uh the rhythm and blues and songs.”

Then everything changed.

Renamed the Box Tops, the band recorded “The Letter” in 1967 with producer Dan Penn. Chilton was just 16 years old when his gloriously gruff vocal helped send the two-minute song straight to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Suddenly, a group of Memphis teenagers were rock stars.

The following year, Penn and his songwriting partner Spooner Oldham wrote “Cry Like a Baby” for the band. Recorded at Memphis’ American Sound Studio, the song was an intoxicating mixture of pop, Southern soul, country and psychedelia, complete with organ, horns and the distinctive sound of an electric sitar.

And then there was that voice.

Chilton somehow sounded wounded, weary and entirely convincing as he lamented a lost love. Released in 1968, “Cry Like a Baby” climbed all the way to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and sold more than two million records.

For most 17-year-olds, that might have been the musical achievement of a lifetime. But for Chilton, it was just the beginning.

After the Box Tops broke up, Chilton eventually joined Chris Bell, Jody Stephens and Andy Hummel in the Memphis band Big Star. Commercial success largely eluded the group, but its shimmering, guitar-driven music would acquire an extraordinary reputation in the decades that followed, influencing generations of alternative and power-pop musicians.

Chilton continued making music for the rest of his life, both as a solo artist and through later reunions, before his death in 2010 at age 59. His influence, however, would only continue to grow. Today Chilton is a full-blown cult-rock icon, with legions of devoted fans covering his music and singing his praises.

It makes Chilton’s story one of rock music’s great reversals: He became famous singing other people’s songs as a teenager, then became revered for making his own music that relatively few people heard at the time.

But back in 1968, none of that had happened yet.

There was simply “Cry Like a Baby,” pouring out of radios across America, and that enormous, soulful voice belonging to a 17-year-old kid from Memphis.

1975 No. 1 Pop Song, Sung by Nat King Cole’s Daughter, Is Still a Beloved Hit 61 Years Later

Fri, 09/04/2026 - 11:45am

There are a few songs that have stood the test of time as love and wedding staples, like Natalie Cole‘s 1975 soul/pop song that dominated the charts and sparked the start of her singing career.

Cole grew up in the music industry thanks to her father, singer and jazz pianist Nat King Cole. The jazz icon recorded hit tracks like “Unforgettable,” “Mona Lisa,” and even had his six-year-old daughter sing on his 1960 classic album, The Magic of Christmas. There’s no denying that Cole was meant to be a star, and in 1975, she broke free from her father’s image to create her own musical career.

She released her debut single “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love),” and it was released as part of her first album, Inseparable. While landing at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, it climbed to the No. 1 spot on the Hot Soul Singles chart and No. 5 on the Dance/Disco chart.

According to SongFacts, Cole didn’t start taking singing seriously until years after her father’s death, when she was a senior at the University of Massachusetts. She graduated with a degree in child psychology, but began taking up small gigs. It was around that time that Chuck Jackson and Marvin Yance heard her perform and decided to record a few tracks with her.

Despite having had a legendary father, Cole was getting rejected by multiple labels until getting some interest from Capitol Records. It also happened to be her father’s old label, but Larkin Arnold felt there still wasn’t a hit on the album. Jackson and Yance returned to their hotel room, and soon wrote: “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love).”

“I was twenty-five and had recorded my first album in Chicago. The initial single, ‘This Will Be (an Everlasting Love),’ was starting to climb the charts. I had a small following from my club dates but was hardly a star,” she said in her book Love Brought Me Back.

The song not only started her career, but also pushed Cole to stardom early on. “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)” earned Cole a Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best New Artist. It was an incredible feat, as the category had been previously dominated by Aretha Franklin.

Cole’s hit would become a generational love anthem and a staple for couples during their wedding. It also became a pop culture sensation, appearing in the films While You Were Sleeping, The Parent Trap, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, A Cinderella Story, Taxi, and Bride Wars.

Original Member of '80s Rock Band Behind 'Brass in Pocket' Turns 75

Fri, 09/04/2026 - 11:42am

Musician Martin Chambers is best known for being the iconic drummer behind the pioneering late-’70s/’80s rock band The Pretenders. Today, Sept. 4, 2026, he turns 75.

Born on Sept. 4, 1951, in Hereford, England, Chambers first picked up a pair of drumsticks when he was 16 years old. Fast forward to 1978, and Chambers was recruited to become the band’s drummer by frontwoman and founder of The Pretenders, Chrissie Hynde.

In 1979, The Pretenders released their self-titled debut album, which featured some of the band’s most popular hits to date, including “Brass in Pocket,” which peaked at No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100. The track was even more popular across the pond, becoming the rockers’ first No. 1 single on the U.K. Official Singles Chart. In the same week, the self-titled debut album hit the top spot on the Official Album Chart, where it remained for four consecutive weeks.

“Back On The Chain Gang,” which was featured on the album Learning to Crawl and paid tribute to the band’s late guitarist James Honeyman-Scott, was a huge success in the United States, hitting No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.

“What I loved about music was that you could move people,” Chambers reflected in an interview with Daily Record. “I remember watching the movie ‘Rocky,’ and hearing that music made me want to drink raw eggs and run up a flight of stairs.”

Chambers was initially fired from the band in 1985 during the recording of the album Get Close, before rejoining in 1994. The drummer hasn’t appeared on a Pretenders studio recording since 2002’s Loose Screw, but he still performs with Hynde, and the pair are the only two surviving original members of the band.

Acknowledging his absence from newer Pretenders records, Chambers said that his priority now lies with concerts and touring.

“The Pretenders were over a very long time ago. I don’t really want anything to do with it apart from doing the live performances with Chrissie,” he explained to Music Radar in 2017. “I’ve got loads of stuff to do myself, so to just turn up, rehearse the songs for a tour, go and tour and then see you next year, that suits me fine.”

NBC Sitcom, Ranked Among ‘Best TV Shows of All Time,’ Still Holds Up 49 Years Later

Fri, 09/04/2026 - 11:33am

Nearly five decades after it ended, Sanford and Son remains one of television’s most important sitcoms for its strong characters, huge ratings and lasting place in Black television history.

The NBC comedy ran for six seasons, from Jan. 14, 1972, to March 25, 1977. It starred Redd Foxx as Fred G. Sanford, a cranky junk dealer, and Demond Wilson as his son, Lamont Sanford.

The series became one of NBC’s biggest hits during the 1970s. It finished among the Nielsen top 10 five times and reached No. 2 in the ratings during the 1972–73 and 1974–75 seasons.

Sanford and Son was among the sitcoms that helped redefine the Black situation comedy and paved the way for other Black-led television shows.

Time magazine featured the series in its All-TIME 100 TV Shows list in 2007.

At the center of Sanford and Son was the complicated relationship between Fred and Lamont. Fred was loud, stubborn and often involved in get-rich-quick schemes. Lamont was the more responsible one, often trying to keep his father out of trouble while also working to build their family business.

The two lived and worked together in a junkyard and salvage business in the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles. Their constant arguments became one of the main sources of comedy.

The show was adapted by Norman Lear from the British sitcom Steptoe and Son, which aired on BBC1 from 1962 to 1974. Lear and producer Bud Yorkin’s Tandem Productions were also responsible for “All in the Family.”

Sanford and Son was seen as NBC’s answer to “All in the Family.” Both shows featured outspoken working-class characters and dealt with racial issues through comedy.

But Sanford and Son had a different style. Its story focused more heavily on the comic battles between Fred and the people around him. Redd Foxx’s performance was central to the show’s success. Time described Foxx as an unlikely comic to make the move to television but praised how effectively he adapted his stage persona for the sitcom.

Demond Wilson provided the balance as Lamont, the son who often had to deal with Fred’s behavior. Their chemistry helped make the show a ratings powerhouse.

Despite airing on Friday nights at 8 p.m., a time often viewed as a difficult television slot, Sanford and Son performed extremely well. The show reached its highest listed rating in the 1974–75 season, when it ranked No. 2 with a 29.6 rating and an estimated 20.3 million households.

Sanford and Son was one of the early television shows with a mostly Black cast and became an important part of the growth of Black sitcoms.

Its characters also became closely linked with the series’ memorable catchphrases and running jokes. Fred’s fake heart attacks were among the show’s most recognizable recurring bits, often ending with his famous cry, “I’m coming to join you, Elizabeth!”

Aunt Esther, played by LaWanda Page, became another major part of the show’s identity. Fred and Esther regularly traded insults, creating some of the sitcom’s most memorable confrontations.

Other recurring characters included Grady Wilson, played by Whitman Mayo; Bubba Bexley, played by Don Bexley; Rollo Lawson, played by Nathaniel Taylor; Donna Harris, played by Lynn Hamilton; and Julio Fuentes, played by Gregory Sierra.

Sanford and Son ended in 1977 after ABC offered Foxx a variety series. By then, the sitcom’s ratings had already declined from its earlier highs.

The show’s six seasons produced 136 episodes. All six seasons were eventually released on DVD, with the complete series arriving in 2008.

The passing of several cast members has also brought renewed attention to the sitcom’s legacy. Demond Wilson, who played Lamont, died in January 2026 at age 79. Hal Williams, who played Officer “Smitty” Smith, died in July 2026 at age 91.

Wilson’s death was confirmed to NBC News by his spokesperson, Mark Goldman, who described him as a father, actor, author and minister. Wilson later became a minister after stepping away from acting.

Nearly 49 years after its final episode, Fred and Lamont Sanford remain among the memorable father-and-son pairs in sitcom history.

’70s Rock Legends Announce 2027 ‘Unplugged’ Tour Dates With Special Guest

Fri, 09/04/2026 - 11:20am

Foreigner has announced a new acoustic tour for 2027.

Spanning four dates in April, one of the biggest bands in rock music will bring an unplugged version of their biggest hits to Europe, with shows set in some of the most iconic venues.

The “Foreigner Unplugged” tour will open at Dublin 3Olympia Theatre on Monday, April 12, before hitting London Palladium on Wednesday, April 15.

On Friday, April 16, there will be a show at Paris L’Olympia, followed by one in Vienna Globe Wien on April 18.

Billy Lockett will serve as a supporting guest.

Tickets will be on sale to the general public at 10 am on Wednesday, Sep. 9, with a fan pre-sale starting Monday, Sept. 7 at 10 a.m. local time.

View this post on Instagram

The lineup will feature a quartet with Luis Carlos Maldonado on vocals, Jeff Pilson on bass/keyboards, Bruce Watson on guitar and Michael Bluestein on the keyboards.

Longtime frontman Kelly Hansen stepped away from Foreigner’s touring lineup in 2025 after 20 years with the band, replaced by Maldonado, who was tasked with leading the band forward. Founding guitarist Mick Jones, the only continuous original member, stopped touring around 2022 but remains involved behind the scenes following his Parkinson’s diagnosis.

The unplugged tour is an up-close way to see the legendary band as you’ve never seen them before. Fans can expect acoustic, stripped-down versions of the group’s biggest hits that spanned the ’70s and ’80s, like “I Want to Know What Love Is” and “Cold as Ice.”

Foreigner has a total of 9 Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, with a catalog of timeless hits like “Waiting for a Girl Like You,” “Double Vision,” “Hot Blooded,” and “Urgent.”

“I Want to Know What Love Is” not only hit No. 1 in both the U.S. and U.K., but it has since surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify.

The icons are fresh off a successful co-headlining tour with fellow legends Lynyrd Skynyrd called Double Trouble, but they’re not taking too much time away from the stage.

In addition to the four acoustic shows, the ’70s-era rock superstars also announced a fall U.S. tour spanning 30 shows, which will begin Sept. 16 in Las Vegas and conclude on Feb. 21 in Miami.

As Parade previously reported, the tour is timed to coincide with an expanded reissue of their 1979 album Head Games in October.

And the timing couldn’t be more perfect, as the band—which was formed in 1976 in New York City by Jones, alongside fellow Briton Ian McDonald and American vocalist Lou Gramm—will also be celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, making the shows all the more special for fans.

“Foreigner Unplugged” 2027 tour dates:

April 12 – Dublin, Ireland – 3Olympia Theatre
April 14 – London, England – London Palladium
April 16 – Paris, France – L’Olympia
April 18 – Vienna, Austria – Globe Vien

1966 Rock Masterpiece, Paul McCartney's Favorite Album, Was a Commercial Failure

Fri, 09/04/2026 - 11:06am

60 years ago, the world experienced one of the most important years in music history. A handful of classic artists had begun shifting the conception of popular music from entertainment to art with some groundbreaking albums. Music was becoming something much greater than it had been previously, and that’s thanks to albums like “Blonde on Blonde,” “Revolver,” Buffalo Springfield’s Self Titled, and maybe the most influential of all, “Pet Sounds.”

Going into 1966, The Beach Boys were something akin to a modern boy band. They made fun surf pop records that kids could listen to to celebrate the summer sun and the recreation that comes with that. This was making them incredibly successful, but it wasn’t enough for principle songwriter and musical genius Brian Wilson, who wanted the band to be more than parties and girls in bikinis. The album that was born from that artistic pursuit was “Pet Sounds,” an album that not only completely reinvented the way musicians operate in the studio, but also birthed some of the most important releases to come after, chief among these being “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.”

Paul McCartney has long shared his love of the album. In an interview to be published in the CD release of Pet Sounds, McCartney gushed about the record, saying “it was Pet Sounds that blew me out of the water. First of all, it was Brian’s writing. I love the album so much. I’ve just bought my kids each a copy of it for their education in life—I figure no one is educated musically ’til they’ve heard that album. I was into the writing and the songs.”

Maybe the song that gets the most love is “God Only Knows,” which McCartney has stated as his favorite song before, which is also brought up in the interview. McCartney remarked that ” “It’s a really, really great song—it’s a big favorite of mine. I was asked recently to give my top ten favorite songs for a Japanese radio station…I didn’t think long and hard on it, but I popped that [“God Only Knows”] on the top of my list. [Thinks for a moment] It’s very deep. [Quotes the lyrics to “God Only Knows”] Very emotional, always a bit of a choker for me, that one. There are certain songs that just hit home with me, and they’re the strangest collection of songs…but that is high on the list, I must say.”

Despite all the reverence for the record, it was close to a commercial disaster for the band. It still sold moderately well, but people didn’t understand the album well at all. For a band that was maybe the most popular in the country, a steep drop in sales was a huge blow. Wilson himself was extremely hurt by the response to the album, and it was something that really bothered him for a long time. Thankfully, the world eventually came around to understand it as one of the great records of all time.

Matthew Towers/Netflix

In 2024, celebrated director Guy Ritchie finally made his first major crossover to TV. He didn’t stray too far from his film roots, however, bringing an adaptation of his 2019 movie The Gentleman to streaming. The series eschews Matthew McConaughey in favor of Theo James, who leads the cast as a former Army captain turned newfound Duke. Season 2, which released Sept. 3, continues to ramp up both the action and the laughs, as Eddie (James) must contend with the churning criminal activity surrounding his family. And with a third season already confirmed, we should be “Ritchie” with plenty of The Gentleman in the near future.

Clarks’ Breathable Slip-on Loafers Offer Cushiony Comfort and ‘Great Arch Support’ Right Out of the Box

Fri, 09/04/2026 - 11:00am

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

Even though it might feel impossible to find footwear that you can depend on, we’re here to tell you that it’s not. We’ve been on the lookout for the best summer-to-fall transition shoes that are breathable, comfortable, and fashionable, with Clarks being one of our favorite brands that achieve all three priorities. Thankfully, Amazon is selling the Clarks Breeze Lily Slip-On Shoes for up to 26% off right now, and you’ll want to show them off all season long.

The footwear originally cost $59, but has been reduced to just $44. The shoes are available in three colors: red, white, and navy. The white and navy hues are great for everyday wear because they’ll match with everything, and the red hue is great for when you want to add a bold pop of color to your outfit. The current sizes range from 5 to 12, including half sizes, with several shoppers saying they’re true to size.

The best part about these shoes is that they’re being sold in narrow, wide, and medium widths, so they’re truly for everybody. The design features a nearly 1-inch rubber heel with a cushioned foam insole so you can sport them all day long and stay comfortable. The footbed is shock-absorbent, which puts less stress on the feet, so you can easily wear them for longer walks. One shopper raved about the “great arch support” they provide.

What we really love about these shoes is that they have a synthetic upper with “breathable” holes. They not only add a unique touch to the design, but also prevent your feet from overheating. This is why they’re the perfect shoe for both seasons, since you can wear them throughout the day as the weather goes from chilly to hot to cold again. The beauty of these shoes is that you can just pull them on when you’re headed out the door.

Shoppers agreed that the footwear is “very good-quality” and “practical,” and one mentioned that they’re a go-to shoe while traveling because of how “comfortable” they are. You can wear them right out of the box, so there’s no need for a break-in period. Daniel Stern Is Making a Bronze Sculpture of Marv for the ‘Home Alone’ House

Fri, 09/04/2026 - 10:59am

Daniel Stern, who is best known as Marv in Home Alone, will be forever memorialized in the film’s iconic home.

Stern, 69, rose to stardom in acclaimed films like Hannah and Her Sisters and Diner. But it was his role as Marv, one-half of the Wet Bandits alongside Joe Pesci in the beloved 1990 holiday classic starring Macaulay Culkin, that made him a household name. The film, written by John Hughes, followed Kevin McCallister, an eight-year-old boy who gets left behind while his family heads to Paris for Christmas. The film went down in history and made the palatial house in Winnetka, a suburb of Chicago, a tourist destination.

Now, Stern, who has a successful side career as a bronze sculptor, has been commissioned by the new owners of the Home Alone house to do a sculpture for the home. Noting that they’re returning the home to its former glory, the piece will feature Marv with a tarantula crawling on his face, like the famed scene.

Check out Stern as he explains the project below:

Why Doesn’t Daniel Stern Appear at Any Home Alone Events?

Stern’s willingness to participate in the fun Home Alone art project is a departure for the star, who prefers to hang out at home and work on his art.

“I don’t leave my farm,” Stern laughed last year in an interview with PEOPLE. “It’s no offense to the movie. I’m just … a phone call, Zoom call, I’m in. but… I’m a bit of a homebody.”

The Home Alone fandom can get pretty intense, as well.

“I love knowing that everybody loves it but, like, actual people come at me and say, ‘We love it.’ It’s a little overwhelming sometimes,” he shared.

However, Stern still brings plenty of comedy to life on his farm. In a recent video, which featured his beautiful horses in the background, the star joked that he was thinking of becoming a TikTok influencer.

Anthropologie’s 'Gorgeous' Hand-Painted Floral Table Lamp Is 40% Off and Brimming With Cottagecore Whimsy

Fri, 09/04/2026 - 10:45am

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

If your home could use a little more whimsy, Anthropologie’s Floral Tole Iron Table Lamp is on sale for just $137 for a limited time, down from $228, and between the colorful flowers and woven rattan shade, it looks like something you’d stumble across in a vintage cottage. There are three versions to choose from: the hydrangea style has soft blue and cream flowers, the anemone option offers pale pinks, and the snapdragon color is the brightest of the bunch with pink and yellow blooms.

It’s 14.5 inches tall and weighs a little less than 5 pounds, which makes it the perfect size for a nightstand, console, or side table. The green iron base is covered in hand-painted, sculptural flowers that climb toward the rattan shade, so there’s plenty to admire even when the lamp is switched off. It plugs into the wall with a generous 98-inch cord and uses a standard bulb (not included). Since the floral details are hand-painted, the finish can slightly vary.

This pretty lamp is especially cute heading into fall because it adds a cozy cottage look without feeling too seasonal. The sculptural flowers give you the charm of keeping a bouquet on the table, except there’s nothing to water, trim, or replace a week later. And because there are three versions, you can pick whether you want the room to feel softer and more romantic, more colorful and playful, or somewhere in between.

One reviewer called it “stunning,” while another said the lamp looks “adorable in a cottage” and is “well made” with a “lovely” woven shade. Someone else described it as “gorgeous” and “so cute,” while another shopper said it’s “even prettier in person,” “quirky and fun,” and reminiscent of “old vintage floral lamps.”

Even on sale, $137 is still a splurge for a table lamp, but knocking $91 off an Anthropologie home find is a pretty big price drop. Similar decorative lamps on the site are currently priced closer to $200 to $300 before any extra promotions, so this one is noticeably lower at its sale price. If you’ve been eyeing a statement lamp for a nightstand, desk, or console, the discount makes this a great time to grab it.

The Floral Tole Iron Table Lamp can make any space feel more whimsical, so this limited-time deal is definitely worth checking out while all three colors are still in stock. It’s a very easy way to sprinkle in a little cottage charm without changing anything else in the room. Head to Anthropologie’s site to grab your favorite color while it’s 40% off.

The Advice Dolly Parton Gave This Friends Star

Fri, 09/04/2026 - 10:37am

Jennifer Aniston is carrying a little bit of Dolly Parton’s wisdom with her.

Just days after the country music legend’s death, Aniston shared a piece of advice Parton once gave her and it’s the kind of simple, hopeful message that feels especially meaningful now.

At a recent event at the 92nd Street Y in New York City, Jennifer Aniston opened up about the advice her late collaborator and friend Dolly Parton once shared with her – words that have clearly stayed with the Friends star long after she first heard them. When asked what wisdom she would pass along to others, Aniston didn’t hesitate to credit Parton, who died on Aug. 25 at the age of 80, as first reported by People.

“She would say, ‘I chased a few rainbows and I caught some and I caught a few,'” Aniston recalled warmly. “So I would say just go chase your dreams and go catch some rainbows. Chase rainbows.”

It’s the kind of advice that could only come from Dolly: equal parts poetic, practical, and irresistibly optimistic. And coming from a woman who spent a lifetime turning dreams into reality, the words carry real weight.

Aniston and Parton had a special connection that went beyond their friendship. The two worked together on the 2018 film Dumplin’, which starred Danielle Macdonald as a teenager who enters a beauty pageant and finds confidence along the way. Aniston played her mother, a former beauty queen, while Parton contributed music to the film’s soundtrack, including the Grammy- and Golden Globe-nominated song “Girl in the Movies.”

Their friendship clearly ran deeper than a single project. Aniston has also been working on a reimagining of the 1980 film 9 to 5 (the movie that marked Parton’s acting debut), and Dolly gave it her blessing, saying of Aniston, “I love Jennifer. I think it’ll be a wonderful thing.”

In a world that moves fast and forgets faster, it’s nice to be reminded to slow down and chase a few rainbows.

BREAKING: Lindsay Clancy Trial Ends In Mistrial

Fri, 09/04/2026 - 10:34am

2:25 PM ET – Massachusetts Supreme Court DENIES emergency bid to halt mistrial

1:50 PM ET – The Supreme Court of Massachusetts heard arguments from both sides and is set to make its ruling “quickly”

UPDATE: Clancy’s lawyer has moved for an emergency stay

Lindsay Clancy, a Massachusetts mother who was charged with murder in the killings of her three children, has come to an end after jurors failed to reach a unanimous verdict after more than five days of deliberation.

As a result, it ended in a mistrial.

“With a heavy heart, we report we are unable to come to a unanimous decision. We will not be able to,” a note from the jury on Friday, Sept. 4 said, per PEOPLE.

“I have no choice but to declare a mistrial,” Judge William Sullivan then said.

The jurors had the option of finding Clancy guilty of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, or manslaughter, or finding her not guilty or not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility.

On Thursday, which was just a day before the mistrial ruling, jurors sent a note to the court saying that they were deadlocked, while also implying that it was one juror who was holding out. Clancy’s attorney, Kevin Reddington, then asked the judge to dismiss the juror, but the judge declined to do so.

“The note indicates that the juror has acknowledged doubt but refuses to apply it,” Sullivan said. “That note does not indicate that the juror refuses to follow the law.”

Clancy killed her three children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and 8-month-old Callan, in her Duxbury, Mass., home in January 2023. She then jumped from a second-story window in an apparent suicide attempt, which resulted in her being paralyzed from the waist down. The defense argued that Clancy’s actions were due to her being overmedicated and suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time.

Remember the Young Jenny From ‘Forrest Gump’? Hanna Hall Is 42 and Still Acting

Fri, 09/04/2026 - 10:28am

In the opening scenes of Forrest Gump, viewers are introduced to a young Forrest and his childhood best friend, Jenny Curran.

Young Jenny instantly stole hearts as Forrest’s defender and companion, despite his leg braces. The actress who famously shouted “Run, Forrest. Run,” was then 9-year-old Hanna Hall.

Three decades after the release of the Oscar-nominated film, fans are curious about what Hall is up to now.

Luckily, Hall, 42, is still acting and is known to appear at movie and pop culture conventions, taking a photo with a fan in July 2026.

Following the success of Forrest Gump, Hall went on to star in several popular movies and TV shows, including The Virgin Suicides, Halloween, and Criminal Minds. Most recently, she starred in the 2022 film Forgotten, alongside Tom Sizemore. She also has two projects in the works.

However, Hall still has fond memories of her time on the set of Forrest Gump and playing Young Jenny.

“I loved doing that with my friends while growing up. It wasn’t a career that I was necessarily interested in at the time, but it was definitely something that I always enjoyed doing,” she told Indie Outlook of playing the friendly character. “I was so young that I don’t think I even questioned it. That first film was a very organic experience.”

She also revealed that many of the scenes she filmed for the Robert Zemeckis-directed movie were cut.

“I had read the whole script. I was about 8 years old, and I understood the full extent of the character’s journey and what she had been through. They actually cut out a lot of the scenes that dealt with the abuse that happened to Jenny when she was younger,” she added. “I think they had a scene where they implied that I killed my father. When you’re that age, you don’t question the fact that it’s not you. You understand that the character is not you, and the older you get, the more your character’s [struggles] get in your head.”

'Manifest' Is Back! Everything You Need to Know About the Upcoming Spinoff, 'Arrivals'

Fri, 09/04/2026 - 10:15am

Manifest is heading back to screens sometime soon! Well, sort of. The driving forces behind the hit series—which cultivated such a large and passionate fanbase that Netflix had no choice but to save it from NBC’s cancellation—have announced a spinoff “coming soon” to the beloved streaming platform.

View this post on Instagram

Here’s everything we know so far about the Manifest spinoff, Arrivals.

When will Season 1 of Arrivals take place?

The timeline for Arrivals, in comparison to Manifest, is not yet known. It seems a likely guess that it will take place some time after the events of its predecessor, but there’s not yet any confirmation on that.

Is there a trailer for Season 1 of Arrivals?

No, there’s no trailer for Arrivals yet. As the series was just announced to the public, it’s like still in the preproduction and casting phase.

When will Season 1 of Arrivals start filming?

Since the series is reportedly “coming soon,” it seems likely that filming will commence any time now, but the official production schedule is not yet known.

When will Season 1 of Arrivals premiere?

According to the official announcement from Netflix, Arrivals is “coming soon,” but there’s no official premiere date yet.

What will happen on Season 1 of Arrivals?

According to Deadline, the spinoff will center on another plane, which crash-lands in Denver. Those onboard have no memory of their past, including their city of origin or their intended destination, with no clue how they ended up where they did.

A budding social worker pairs up with a new Homeland Security agent, working with the town’s new arrivals to put a stop to an as of yet unknown threat to humanity. Throughout their fight against a would-be “humanity-ending catastrophe,” they find, that’s right—that it’s all connected.

Who will be on Season 1 of Arrivals?

There’s no word on casting just yet, but Manifest stars Josh Dallas, Melissa Roxburgh, J.R. Ramirez, Matt Long and Garrett Wareing have all expressed their excitement over the news, and we have a feeling cameos are not off of the table.

1998 Nintendo Fantasy Masterpiece, With an Unbeaten 99 Metacritic Score, Ranked Among Best Games of All Time

Fri, 09/04/2026 - 10:14am

There’s a reason people still argue about The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Reddit threads and gaming YouTube almost 30 years later. It’s not nostalgia goggles talking.

Back in 1998, critics were losing their minds over it. Famitsu, the Japanese gaming magazine known for being brutally stingy with high scores, gave it a perfect 40 out of 40. That had literally never happened before in the outlet’s history. Meanwhile, IGN’s staff reportedly locked themselves in a room with a big-screen TV the second the final build showed up and didn’t stop playing for 17 hours straight. That’s the kind of reaction this game got before “viral” was even a concept.

All these years later, Ocarina of Time still sits at a 99 on Metacritic, the highest score any video game has ever received. Not the highest for its era, the highest ever, full stop, ahead of everything that’s come out since.

What’s wild is how much of the game people are still discovering. There’s an entire speedrunning community that treats Ocarina of Time like a sacred text, finding new glitches and shortcuts in a 26-year-old game like it’s brand new. Modders keep building romhacks and randomizers to squeeze fresh playthroughs out of it. And Koji Kondo’s soundtrack, especially Zelda’s Lullaby and the Song of Storms, still shows up in orchestral game concerts today, decades after it first played through a tinny N64 speaker.

Part of what keeps it alive is that so much of what felt experimental in 1998 just became the standard afterward. Lock-on combat, expansive 3D worlds, using music as an actual gameplay mechanic instead of background noise, all of that traces back to this game. Newer titles keep trying to top it, and plenty come close, but nothing has managed to actually knock it off its perch.

Maria Bartiromo Breaks Her Silence On Shocking Fox Exit

Fri, 09/04/2026 - 10:11am

Maria Bartiromo is speaking out following the shocking statement released by FOX News, saying that the popular personality was no longer with the network “effective immediately.”

In a statement shared with Parade by her attorney, Bryan Freedman, he called out the “irresponsible’ reports surrounding Bartiromo’s departure from the network. Specifically, it concerned news that she had been fired.

“For many years, Maria Bartiromo hosted three number-one-rated television shows on Fox channels. She has been, without question,  one of the hardest-working journalists throughout her award-winning career.,” the statement read.

“The irresponsible reports that have been published stating that Maria Bartiromo was fired or is no longer an employee of Fox are absolutely and unequivocally false. Make no mistake, we have the receipts and witnesses and they will come out whether through the courthouse or otherwise. Those reporting her firing or the incredulous facts supporting that fiction have exhibited a complete and utter reckless disregard for the truth. “

News of Bartiromo’s departure was shared by the network on Thursday, Sept. 3.

“We thank Maria for her work over the last 12 ½ years and wish her all the best on her next chapter,” the press release read, adding that her show will now be hosted by a rotating cast of anchors and is being renamed “Mornings With Fox Business.” Her other show, “Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street,” will also no longer have her name.

President Donald Trump also spoke out regarding Bartiromo’s exit, calling her ” a true warrior.”

“I can’t believe Maria Bartiromo is no longer going to have her great show(s) on FoxNews/Business,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Three different shows, always number one. Maria is a total professional, and a true warrior.”

“Her fans, of which there are many, will not be happy. God bless you, Maria! President DONALD J. TRUMP,” he concluded.

There was also speculation that Bartiromo’s exit could be tied to her replacing Karoline Leavitt as Trump’s press secretary, but that rumors was quickly shut down by Vice President JD Vance.

“I love Maria. I think she’s an amazing person, amazing talent,” Vance told reporters. “Whatever she does, look, she’s gonna do great, and I wish her all the best.”

Donald Trump Has Strong Words About Maria Bartiromo’s Sudden Fox News Exit

Fri, 09/04/2026 - 10:04am

Just one day after it was announced that Maria Bartiromo is out at Fox News, Donald Trump is breaking his silence on her sudden exit.

Trump, a longtime fan of Bartiromo, took to Truth Social to show his support for the TV personality.

“I can’t believe Maria Bartiromo is no longer going to have her great show(s) on FoxNews/Business,” Trump wrote. “Three different shows, always number one. Maria is a total professional, and a true warrior.”

He continued, “Her fans, of which there are many, will not be happy. God bless you, Maria! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”

During her time on Fox News, Bartiromo, 58, co-moderated two debates during the 2016 presidential election. She also interviewed Trump several times, most recently sitting down with the President in April 2026 to discuss the Iran War.

Trump has also spoken highly of Bartiromo in the past, and in 2025, it was reported that Trump even wanted the Fox News host as his running mate. However, there was “no time to vet Bartiromo, as they had spent months doing with other candidates.”

And the feeling is mutual. Bartiromo has been a staunch supporter of Trump on and off air, promoting Trump’s election fraud allegations and conducting his first interview following his loss for re-election in 2020.

The media company announced Bartiromo’s departure on Thursday, September 3, writing, “We thank Maria for her work over the last 12 ½ years and wish her all the best on her next chapter.”

While no specific reason has been given for her abrupt exit, fans have some theories, including that Bartiromo will replace Karoline Leavitt as Trump’s press secretary. There are also reports that the two-time Emmy-winning journalist was fired for “leaking information about her employer to the White House,” per Status.

Bartiromo has yet to comment on her exit or plans for her future.

Little Debbie's Brand-New Collaboration With Crumbl Is ’90s Perfection

Fri, 09/04/2026 - 10:02am

Crumbl has unveiled its latest collaboration, inspired by a beloved ’90s snack brand.

The cookie company has teamed up with Little Debbie to release a selection of limited-time snacks that will bring a wave of nostalgia to its weekly line-up.

Available nationwide from Sept. 7 through Sept. 12, the Crumbl x Little Debbie partnership sees the addition of four brand-new cookie flavors to the menu, each taking inspiration from one of Little Debbie’s nostalgic childhood treats.

Per Brooklyn-based food blogger Markie Devo, the strawberry shortcake roll cookie is a chilled cakey cookie sitting on a layer of melted white drops, topped with a swirl of strawberry jam and whipped cream.

The unicorn cake cookie is a whimsical addition to the menu, featuring a strawberry cake cookie topped with a swirl of purple vanilla mousse, fully coated in white drops, dusted with purple sugar, and finished with a blue white drop drizzle. The oatmeal cream pie cookie is made up of two thin oatmeal cookies with a layer of marshmallow cream cheese frosting sandwiched in between, while the striking zebra cake is a double layered vanilla cake filled with marshmallow cream cheese frosting, coated in melted white drops, and finished with chocolate drizzles.

Rounding out the Sept. 7-Sept. 12 line-up are two returning chocolate lovers’ fan-favorites: the cosmic brownie cookie and the chocolate fudge cupcake cookie.

Dessert fans on the /CrumblCookies Subreddit are thrilled about the line-up, with the oatmeal cream pie cookie being a much-anticipated item.

“I always have a box of the oatmeal cream sandwich cookies in my cabinet 🥰 I’m excited to try this one 🤎,” one Reddit user wrote.

“OATMEAL CREME PIE???? Stop it,” said another. “I’ll get 100 of them.”

A third expressed their disappointment at the lack of Swiss Roll-inspired desserts, which is one of Little Debbie’s top-selling offerings.

They noted, “No Swiss cake? What even is the point of doing Little Debbie week if you aren’t going to do the Swiss cake? Smdh.”
