Trader Joe's Striped Mini Totes Are Officially Coming

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 2:28pm

If you thought the frenzy over Trader Joe’s viral mini totes had finally died down, think again. A brand-new version is on the way, and this time, it’s striped!

After weeks of rumors circulating online, Trader Joe's has officially confirmed that a fresh take on its wildly popular mini canvas bags is coming soon, just in time for summer!

The mini-tote Trader Joe's fans have been waiting for

The buzz started with social media leaks and speculation. But now, there’s actual confirmation from the source. “Trader Joe’s has plans to offer a new striped mini canvas tote this summer,” a company spokesperson confirmed to the Reno Gazette Journal on April 27.

However, if you've seen images of the totes online, those likely aren't real, as the company noted that it doesn’t yet have exact timing or images to share—meaning shoppers will likely have to keep checking stores (and social media) for the drop.

Why this is a big deal for Trader Joe's fans

If you’ve been anywhere near a Trader Joe’s in the past two years, you already know these bags have moved beyond trend status and into cultural phenomenon territory.

Though TJ's has sold regular-sized tote bags for years, the first mini canvas totes went viral in 2024, sparking long lines, purchase limits, and constant low inventory. By 2025, the pastel minis were flying off shelves, creating long lines and selling out within minutes.

While they retail for just a few dollars ($2.99 each), the resale market is a whole other animal.

Some shoppers have flipped the limited-edition bags online for hundreds of dollars, turning the simple grocery tote into a full-blown collector’s item. Fans also enjoyed adding custom details to their totes, from painting on designs to adding charms and embroidery, with many selling those versions as well.

Meryl Streep Reveals Which Celeb Is ‘The Worst’ at Charades

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 2:23pm

While promoting her upcoming film, The Devil Wears Prada 2, 76-year-old actress MerylStreep revealed who she definitely doesn't want to see at game night.

The core four cast members of the long-awaited sequel, Meryl Streep, AnneHathaway, EmilyBlunt, and StanleyTucci, joined JennaBushHager in a pre-recorded interview for the Todayshow on April 29.

In the highly anticipated movie, Steep will reprise her role as MirandaPriestly, the demanding editor-in-chief of the fictional magazine, Runway.

The Sophie'sChoice actress revealed she was looking forward to working with ‘fabulous’ actors in the first film, particularly Tucci, who plays NigelKipling, the art director for the fictitious magazine.

“I loved Stanley, and we had played a lot of charades together at various parties,” she said. “We would always be the captains of rival teams.”

The Kramer vs. Kramer actress also shared some advice for picking your A-list game night lineup.

“Try not to get Robert De Niro on our team because he’s the worst,” said Streep.

Her co-stars jumped in to defend the Taxi Driver actor.

“Oh, but I bet it's so heartwarming,” chimed Anne Hathaway while Tucci added that the actor is "very shy.”

Streep responded with her impression of De Niro playing the guessing game. Adding “very shy and he's just not good at it.”

The cast will be reunited with director DavidFrankel, who worked on both the 2006 and 2026 The Devil Wears Prada films.

According to Variety, the upcoming movie “follows Priestly as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing and as she faces off against Blunt’s character, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs.”

The first movie is based on the 2003 book of the same name by LaurenWeisberger

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is set to premiere in theaters on May 1, 2026

Some Retirees Could Be Missing Thousands of Dollars in Social Security Back Pay—Are You One of Them?

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 2:20pm

For many people living on a fixed income, every penny counts. That makes what I'm about to say that much more exciting for those who are hoping to scrape together a little bit more money while collecting Social Security, because two longstanding rules have just been appealed, potentially allowing certain people to collect thousands of extra dollars.

New legislation now allows public employees with pensions to collect Social Security, which may open the door for some to collect a big payday thanks to retroactive benefits. Here's how to find out if you qualify.

🎬 SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬

The Social Security Administration Owes Some People Back Pay

The Social Security Administration (SSA) is revisiting a former rule that prevented people who worked in the public sector from collecting Social Security if they were instead eligible for a pension.

According to MassLive, the changes are thanks to the repeal of the Windfall Elimination Provision and the Government Pension Offset, both of which reduced or completely eliminated Social Security benefits for these people.

Related: Your May Social Security Check Won’t Be ‘On Time’—Here’s When You’ll Actually Get Paid

Additionally, the law prevented anyone who was owed money from the SSA from collecting more than six months' worth of payments. However, a bipartisan group of senators has come together to ask the SSA to provide full back pay to those who are owed money, regardless of the amount owed and whether they were initially cut off from collecting it under older laws on the books.

That means some people may be owed money dating back to 2024, which MassLive says could amount to as much as $1,000 a month for some. As you can probably guess, that could make a massive difference in the lives of those who are struggling to make ends meet right now, especially as the cost of living continues to increase for seniors who are struggling to pay for essentials like housing and healthcare.

How to Find Out if You Qualify

If you believe that you are one of the people who should receive additional payments as a result of these changes, you can visit the agency's website to determine your eligibility. If you think you qualify or have additional questions, you'll need to reach out to the SSA directly. You can do that by calling the national hotline at 1-800-772-1213 or by visiting one of your local SSA offices in person to speak with a representative about the next steps.

Of course, if you choose to visit your neighborhood office, you'll want to first check with the SSA's website to make sure that they are open, since many offices across the country are experiencing disruptions that have caused them to close their doors to in-person meetings and visits, and are instead only accepting appointments virtually or via telephone.

Summer House's West Wilson's Cousin Arrested and Charged for Murdering Their Grandmother

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 2:20pm

Summer House's West Wilson's cousin has been arrested and charged for allegedly murdering their grandmother.

According to TMZ, Wilson's cousin Dakota Sweeney was arrested on Wednesday, Apr. 22—just one day before Wilson filmed the explosive Summer House reunion.

The arrest was made after law enforcement officials in Carroll County, Missouri responded to reports of a shooting at a residence and found Wilson's 75-year-old step-grandmother, Gayle R. Wilson, dead at the scene.

According to the probable cause statement obtained by the outlet, police say a witness told them that Sweeney was quietly sitting in the same room as his grandmother for 30 minutes before he allegedly shot her with a handgun.

Per the officers, the witness also told them Sweeney and Gayle argued earlier in the evening over Sweeney not helping with household chores.

Sweeney was arrested without incident at the scene, and after taking him into custody, police say they located a holster on his person. Sweeney has since been charged with first-degree murder.

Wilson's dad, Bruce, and Sweeney's mom, Kelly, are both Gayle's stepchildren.

Wilson has not publicly commented on his grandmother's death or his cousin's arrest.

Recently, Wilson has been subject to intense online scrutiny for his romance with co-star Amanda Batula. Batula is currently going through a divorce from Kyle Cooke while Wilson previously dated Batula's best friendCiara Miller.

Over the weekend, three audio clips from the upcoming Summer House reunion special leaked online.

In the audios, the cast can be heard clashing over the shocking Wilson and Batula romance and the implications it has for Batula’s friendship with Miller.

The clip surfaced shortly after host Andy Cohen shared on Instagram that it was one of the most intense reunions he’s ever hosted.

Following the leaks, Cohen slammed them as “disgusting” and “illegal,” and Bravo promptly launched an investigation which was resolved with “appropriate action” being taken by the network on Sunday, Apr. 26.

Bravo also noted there is “no evidence that any member of the cast was involved in the recording of the audio.”

Summer House airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo.

Iconic '90s Actor, Starring in 'Greatest Sitcom of All Time,' Turns 72

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 2:16pm

From co-creating Seinfeldto selling out stand-up shows decades later, Jerry Seinfeld's legacy is that "a show about nothing" can mean everything.

There are very few comedians who have shaped modern humor quite like Seinfeld, who is celebrating his 72nd birthday on Wednesday. The actor was born in Brooklyn and raised on Long Island. He started performing stand-up during college in the 1970s, appearing at open-mic nights while he was a student at Queens College.

After frequent appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and Late Night with David Letterman, he released his first HBO special titled Stand-Up Confidential. In 1988, production for the sitcomSeinfeld started. Created by the comedian and Larry David, the sitcom aired for nine seasons on NBC and has been named one of "the greatest sitcoms of all time" by multiple sources, and has won multiple Emmy Awards, Golden Globes and SAG Awards.

Seinfeld, which is known as "a show about nothing," was set in New York City and followed the lives of the titular character and his three best friends: George Costanza (Jason Alexander), his ex-girlfriend Elaine Benes (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and Cosmo Kramer (Michael Richards). In its first seven seasons, each episode opened and closed with stand-up segments from a fictionalized Jerry Seinfeld, cleverly tied to the storyline’s events.

Despite Seinfeld being cited as one of the greatest television shows of all time, the actor believes that his three kids — Sascha, Julian and Shepherd — are "the greatest show on Earth."

"You just want to watch them live," he told Graham Bensinger in a sit-down interview. "I don't watch all the shows that everybody watches. I don't find them interesting. I watch baseball and I like to see what the kids are doing. The kids are very entertaining because they're primitive human beings and it's fun to watch."

After wrapping Seinfeld in Los Angeles, the actor moved back to New York City to continue pursuing stand-up comedy. He went on tour and recorded a comedy special, I'm Telling You for the Last Time, and filmed a documentary titled Comedian, which showed the process of developing and performing new material for his shows.

In 2012, Seinfeld started a web series titled Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, where he would pick up a comedian in a different car each episode and take them out for coffee. The show ran from 2012 to 2019, and can be streamed on Netflix.

More recently, the 72-year-old stand-up comedian announced earlier this month that he will be going on tour this summer, starting this Friday in Jacksonville, Florida, and ending in Kansas City on Sept. 18. He is also set to hit Las Vegas, Rochester, Baton Rouge and Niagara Falls, as well as multiple cities in Tennessee, Florida, Texas and California.

Tickets for his upcoming shows can be found on his official website.

How Travelers Under 30 Can Save $20 on TSA PreCheck This May

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 1:57pm

If you're under 30 and you've never had a TSA PreCheck membership, now's your chance to get one for as little as $56.75. From May 1 through May 31, 2026, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is offering a $20 discount to all new applicants who haven't yet turned 31.

Dubbed the "TSA PreCheck $20 Take Off," the promotion is geared towards younger travelers, such as high school or college graduates. While you can't sign up for them, it would still make an excellent monetary gift for someone who wants to travel this summer.

For those who are already adulting, the discount gives twenty-somethings a quicker, more affordable way to get their next trip or vacation started. Once you've experienced waiting less than 10 minutes and avoiding the hassle of removing belts, jackets, and electronics, it's hard to travel any other way.

The discount is automatic, so depending on which of the three providers you opt for -- CLEAR, IDEMIA, or Telos -- there's nothing that needs to be done or said, other than showing your government-issued ID., such as a driver's license or passport. Unfortunately, only first-time customers are eligible for the deal.

The price varies by company: those who apply through IDEMIA will pay $56.75 after the discount, $59.95 through CLEAR, and $65 through Telos. Each membership is valid for five years, and another bonus is that once you have a membership, renewing it is less expensive. With 1300 enrollment locations across the country, finding one that's nearby shouldn't be too difficult.

For those over 30 or looking to get a TSA PreCheck membership for free, there are dozens of ways to either get reimbursed for the cost or pay less. Uniformed service members, DOD civilians, military spouses, and military survivor families are all eligible for free or discounted TSA PreCheck memberships. For everyone else, the most popular way to pay your TSA PreCheck fee is to find the right credit card.

Most travel credit cards, most notably Capital One's Venture Card, US Bank's Altitude Visa Card, or most any airline credit card, will reimburse you for the cost. There are also a number of non-travel-specific credit cards, such as Bank of America Premium Rewards, Chase Sapphire Reserve, and Mastercard's Black or Gold cards, that will pay you back for the membership cost.

Nick Reiner Appears Stone-Faced in Los Angeles Court as Preliminary Hearing Date Is Set

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 1:56pm

Nick Reiner made another appearance in court after pleading not guilty for the murders of his parents Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.

Nick attended a hearing on Wednesday, Apr. 29 in a Los Angeles courthouse. During the court appearance, the 32-year-old waived his right to the 30-day preliminary period, meaning he agreed to expedite the proceedings.

As a result, a preliminary hearing was scheduled for Sept. 15, 2026. There, prosecutors will present evidence to be able to formally charge Nick with the murder of his parents.

For the hearing, Nick wore blue pants, yellow jail smock, and had plastic restraints on him. He also sported a shaved head and a goatee.

Nick was reportedly stone-faced throughout the hearing and spoke only three times to respond to the judge’s questions. At one point, he responded "yes" when the judge asked if he agreed with the upcoming hearing date.

RELATED: Nick Reiner Pleads Not Guilty to Murder

Nick pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder back in February. It remains unclear whether Nick’s defense team plans to pursue an insanity defense amid reports he was diagnosed with schizophrenia and struggling with drug addiction.

Rob and Michele Reiner were found murdered in their home on Dec. 14 and, later that night, Nick was arrested and charged for the crime.

The Reiner family issued a statement confirming the deaths on the night of Dec. 14.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time,” the statement read, according to Variety.

Reiner first met Singer while filming When Harry Met Sally. The two married in 1989 and later welcomed three children: Jake, 34, Nick, and Romy, 28. Reiner was also the father of daughter Tracy, 61, from a previous marriage.

Jake spoke out for the first time about his parents' tragic deaths via a personal essay shared to his Substack on Friday, Apr. 24, describing the ordeal as his "living nightmare."

When fans walked into Michael this April, they expected to hear some ofMichael Jackson’s biggest hits, from “Billie Jean” to “Thriller." And they did, but one surprising omission stands out: his actual No. 1 song of all time is missing from the film.

Related: Is the ‘Michael’ Movie Based on a True Story? Here’s What the Biopic Gets Right and Wrong

According to Billboard, that title doesn’t belong to one of his most iconic solo tracks. Instead, it goes to “Say Say Say,” his 1983 duet with Paul McCartney—a song that, somewhat shockingly, isn’t featured in the new biopic at all.

The surprising Michael Jackson song that tops them all

“Say Say Say” may not be the first song that comes to mind when you think of Jackson’s catalog, but the numbers tell a different story.

The track spent six weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and ultimately became Jackson’s top-performing single on the chart, based on its overall run and performance metrics. To get those numbers, Billboard ranked his songs "based on an inverse point system, with weeks at No. 1 earning the greatest value and weeks at lower spots earning the least."

That means it outranks classics like “Billie Jean," "Dirty Diana,” and “Beat It” in terms of chart success, even if those songs have had a bigger cultural footprint. It also helps that the song had double the star power, combining the fan bases of both Jackson and the legendary Beatles singer.

Why 'Say Say Say' is missing from the movie

The new biopic Michael, which hit theaters on April 24, 2026, focuses primarily on Jackson’s rise from the Jackson 5 era through his “Bad” tour in the late ’80s.

Its official soundtrack includes 13 songs spanning his early career and blockbuster solo albums like Off the Wall and Thriller—but notably skips “Say Say Say.”

That omission likely comes down to the film’s narrative focus. While the duet was a massive hit, it’s technically part of McCartney’s album Pipes of Peace, not one of Jackson’s core solo releases. That makes it easy to leave out in a story centered on his personal artistic evolution, even if it came out during the timeframe the movie highlights.

Still, the numbers don’t lie: even decades later, the duet remains his most successful song on the charts—whether it made the movie or not.

'Leaving Neverland' Director Says Michael Jackson Biopic Is 'Impossible to Take Seriously'

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 1:46pm

Dan Reed, the director behind the 2019 documentary Leaving Neverland, is not holding back his thoughts on the Michael Jackson biopic Michael.

Leaving Neverland detailed the sexual abuse claims against Jackson made by James Safechuck and Wade Robson. Reed spoke to Variety on Tuesday, April 28 about the recently released biopic starring Jackson's nephew Jaafar Jackson. The biopic notably ends in 1988, five years before the first sexual abuse allegation was made against Jackson, in adherence to a settlement made with the family of alleged victim Jordan Chandler.

"The film just flips the truth on its head — black is white, white is black, and two and two make five — and none of the people who go and see the movie will ever question that, but it's a movie that's impossible to take seriously as a counter-narrative to Leaving Neverland," Reed said in the interview with Variety. "It was supposed to be the retort to Leaving Neverland, and they tried that in an early script and it fell apart, so they created this jukebox movie but haven't managed to create a plausible narrative that would explain Jackson's fondness for children."

Jackson and his estate have denied all allegations of sexual abuse against the singer. Jackson's family even released their own documentary Neverland Firsthand: Investigating the Michael Jackson Documentary to refute the allegations made by Safechuck and Robson.

"Why are they dancing around this?" Reed said of the Jackson family's response to the allegations made against him.

Reed continued, "It's well-known that Jackson spent a long time with small-boy companions, including taking them into his bed at night and locking the door, which is undisputed — and that alone, if someone made a claim, is probably enough to convict him in a court of child sexual abuse — but with Jackson, none of this stuff seems to matter. And neither the estate nor the writer of the film nor anyone else has provided an alternative narrative apart from, oh, he didn't have a childhood, so he needed to spend the night alone with kids, which makes no sense."

Reed also criticized Michael's director Antoine Fuqua for previous comments made in The New Yorker about the sexual abuse allegations where he remarked "sometimes people do some nasty things for money."

"Someone who's made tens of millions pushing a false narrative around a man who's a pedophile, that's a nasty thing," Reed said of Fuqua's previous remarks. "Mr. Fuqua has described his own actions while attempting to smear the protagonists of my documentary, and that makes me laugh."

A follow up documentary titled Leaving Neverland 2: Surviving Michael Jackson was released by Reed in the U.K. in 2025. The follow up documentary is available on YouTube whereas the original documentary will be off of HBO's services until 2029. According to Reed, this is due to a non-disparagement clause contained within a deal HBO made with Jackson in 1992.

Dietitians Say This ‘Healthy’ Dinner Staple Is the Worst Thing To Eat Before Bed

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 1:45pm

When it comes to food, some items seem to rely on good marketing. But they don't always benefit your health, even if the front of a food container says things like "natural" or "great source of vitamin C." For instance, orange juice can still spike your blood sugar. Truly healthy foods don't need clever buzzwords or catchphrases.

"Whole foods like fruits, vegetables, healthy fats and animal and plant proteins don’t need a 'health halo' because they’re naturally nutrient-rich," states Theresa Link, RD, a registered dietitian at Virta Health. "Processed foods, on the other hand, often use marketing to make them seem healthier than they are."

Link says you'll want to pay close attention to the real deal about the food you eat before you turn in for the night. "Before bed, these highly processed foods can impact sleep, so it’s helpful to know what you’re actually eating," she explains.

Speaking of which, is there a good time to close the kitchen before bedtime? "There isn’t a hard and fast rule when it comes to closing the kitchen before bed," explains Amanda Sauceda, MS, RD, a registered dietitian. "Ideally, you want to stop eating a couple of hours—two to three—before you lie down. People may be surprised to know that food stays in your stomach for up to three hours before it moves on to digestion, which is actually a major site of digestion."

Regardless of when you eat before bedtime, dietitians agree that there's a "healthy" dinner staple that is actually one of the worst things you can choose. Here's what it is, along with some sleep-supportive alternatives to try.

The ‘Healthy’ Dinner Staple To Avoid Before Bed, According to Dietitians

d3sign/Getty Images

Registered dietitians discourage eating high-sodium soup before bed, even though it has a "healthy" reputation. Experts say its high salt content can lead to unpleasant issues that can keep you up at night, like acid reflux—yuck.

To be clear, though, soup is not off the table. You can absolutely have certain soups for dinner.

"I am one of soup’s biggest fans," Sauceda tells Parade. "Soup is a healthy option because it’s a great way to get protein, healthy fat and fiber all in one bowl. Whether you’re choosing a vegetarian soup or not, you can get a variety of fiber-rich foods that support your gut microbiome, and since it’s cooked, it’s easier on your digestion."

But Sauceda warns that "not all soups are created equal."

"Canned soup can be quite high in sodium, low on veggies and the protein is often lacking," she explains. "It's not a balanced meal."

What Happens When You Eat High-Sodium Soup at Night

The sodium content is at the heart of many of the issues registered dietitians raise about eating some soups pre-bedtime.

"Ending your day with a food with that amount of sodium can easily put you over your daily recommended amount of sodium," Sauceda explains. "If you were to follow the American Heart Association’s daily limit of 1,500 mg of sodium, a single can would be 50% of your daily intake."

"Having too much sodium in your diet is concerning for your heart because a high salt intake can contribute to blood pressure concerns," Sauceda adds. "The DASH diet, which is designed to help reduce blood pressure, emphasizes a reduction in salt while also increasing potassium-rich foods, which can improve blood pressure."

As comforting as a piping hot bowl of soup can be in the moment, registered dietitians point out that you may have some "eater's remorse" later, especially if you're eating it close to bedtime.

"Many soups can also contribute to bloating, especially if they contain added preservatives or large amounts of salt, which can make it harder to fall asleep comfortably," reports Dr. Chris Mohr, Ph.D., RD, the fitness and nutrition advisor for Garage Gym Reviews.

And that bloating or feelings of over-fullness can have a ripple effect on your digestive system—and sleep. "A full stomach puts pressure on your esophagus, increasing the chance of reflux, which can disrupt sleep," Link explains.

How Much Sodium Can I Have Before Bed?

There's no precise guideline on how much sodium your body can handle pre-bedtime. Instead, the registered dietitians we spoke with pointed back to the American Heart Association's guidance to limit your daily sodium intake to 2,300 mg. With that in mind, Dr. Mohr says, "For dinner, somewhere in the 500 to 700 mg range is a solid target for most people. It keeps you from loading up on too much sodium at one time. Going lighter at night can also help with things like thirst or waking up during the night."

Sauceda gives a slightly higher maximum mark, explaining, "The daily value of sodium is 2,300 mg, and if you were to divide that evenly per meal, that would be roughly 765 mg. Of course, if you’re following the American Heart Association’s daily limit, that would be even lower."

TL;DR: Using the American Heart Association's guidance and your own body's signals, find a nighttime sodium sweet spot for yourself. Ensure that it's not putting you over the general recommended limits (or your doctor's recommendation based on your unique health).

3 Alternatives to High-Sodium Soup for Dinner

It's possible to have a satisfying dinner and dreamy sleep. The key is to pick foods that digest well and nourish your body. Below, Sauceda shares three alternatives to high-sodium soup at night.

1. Soup

Yep. We're going there. "You can still have soup," Sauceda assures Parade. "You can make it work for you by choosing a lower-sodium option and/or reducing your portion size."

She advises adding extra veggies and protein to the soup to ensure it's a balanced meal.

"This is where last night’s leftover chicken would work perfectly," Sauceda dishes. "Alternatively, you can also make your own soup where you’ve controlled how much salt you've added. You can make a quick soup using store-bought low-sodium broth."

2. Grain bowls

Grain bowls that "check the boxes" include protein, fat and fiber, Sauceda says.

"The fiber can come from your grain base," she notes. "I also like to add beans or chickpeas. For your next layer, think non-starchy veggies like greens or mushrooms. Top it off with your protein of choice and add a drizzle of olive oil for some healthy fats."

3. Slow cooker meals

Bookmark this one for a cold day—or just have it on a busy summer evening. You're the menu crafter in your own life!

"If you still want something that’s easier on the stomach, like soup, then consider using a slow cooker," Sauceda suggests. "Slow cooking your dinner means you come home to a meal that’s ready to go, and you don’t have to worry about eating too late. Additionally, slow-cooking your food makes it softer and easier on the gut."

1980 Film Was Just Ranked the 'Greatest '80s Thriller Movie'

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 1:44pm

The 1980s are known for the incredible movies released in the era, specifically thrillers.

The publication Colliderrecently released a list of the 9 greatest thrillers of the decade. The ranking, published on April 2, featured suspenseful '80s films like Blue Velvetfrom 1986, The Killer, released in 1989, After Hours from 1985, and 1981'sThief.

The 1980 film The Long Good Friday secured the list's top spot. According to Collider, the John Mackenzie-directed movie deserved the title of the best '80s thriller due to Bob Hoskins' incredible portrayal of British gangster Harold Shand and its well-crafted script, inspired by true events.

The Long Good Friday has a score of 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Pierce Brosnan Shared Details About Filming the Final, Iconic Scene of 'The Long Good Friday'

Collider reported that The Long Good Friday was actor Pierce Brosnan's first movie. In a 2006 behind-the-scenes interview, Brosnan suggested he didn't audition for his role as an IRA hitman. According to the actor, he received a call from his "first film agent," who let him know he had about "3 days' work on a film called The Long Good Friday."

Brosnan said he wasn't sent the script but knew his character didn't have any dialogue. The GoldenEye star also noted that his character holds Shand at gunpoint in a car in the film's infamous final shot. Brosnan shared that he didn't actually film with Hoskin for the iconic scene. Instead, his scene partner was the movie's cinematographer Phil Méheux.

"Bob Hoskins gets whisked away and then I show up in the front seat, popping up with the gun. Welcome to the world of film, I showed up to shoot the sequins Bob Hoskins wasn't there. Phil Méheux was in the back with the camera and lights, John McKenzie driving, and me giving my best smile of malevolence," said Brosnan in the 2006 interview.

Brosnan also shared he didn't anticipate the scene to become so memorable.

"I was completely ignorant. I didn't realize that it was going to be such a cinematic moment," said the Irish actor, now 72.

Rita Wilson Only Has 2 Simple Requests for Husband Tom Hanks

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 1:44pm

Rita Wilson is a woman who knows what she wants.

During her Sound of a Woman: Rita Wilson in Conversation with Demi Moore event at 92NY in New York City, the Asteroid City disclosed the two requests she has for her husband, Tom Hanks, if she were to pass away first.

PEOPLE reported, "One, is that you should be sad for a very, very long time," she said of the first. As for the second request, she mentioned Hanks should "throw her a party." "I want it to be a celebration of life. I want it to be about people telling stories and joy and remembering me in that way. And I think people, a lot of people want that, you know? I think there's room for that."

Wilson went on to say to Moore and fans that her two petitions for Hanks are embedded in her 2019 song, "Throw Me a Party." She revealed, "The song... it came out of this, this story I've told before, but you haven't heard it, it was, when you get the diagnosis, and you're like, 'I don't know, I don't know what's gonna happen, but I hope I'm still here, you know, in a few years.' But I said to Tom... 'Okay, if something happens and I go first, I just have two requests.'"

In 2015, Wilson received her breast cancer diagnosis, and since 2025 has been cancer-free. In 2021, she told Parade in an exclusive interview about some of the struggles she faced and pivotal thoughts she dealt with amid her cancer battle. "It didn't really hit me until about four months later," she began. "When you're going through something like that, you're really focused on just getting through it. I experienced a lot of anxiety at that time, because you let it wash over you. I went back into my mindfulnessmeditation and just tried to stay centered."

"When you're going through something like cancer, you have to speak up. And sometimes it's really hard to speak because you don't want to confront the feelings that you're having yourself — and verbalizing them can make them real or scary. But I would encourage people to just talk about it when possible and not live with fear or anxiety," she added.

Wilson's latest solo album,Sound of a Woman, is scheduled for release on May 1.

Best-Selling Author's 'Chilling' 2007 Thriller Novel Gets 2nd Netflix Adaptation

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 1:25pm

Global best-selling author Harlan Coben has landed yet another Netflix adaptation. And it marks the second one for his 2007 mystery thriller, The Woods.

The latest partnership with the author comes with the British version that will star Based on a True Story’s Tom Bateman and another Coben-inspired series lead, Michelle Keegan, from Fool Me Once.

Additionally, Mandeep Dhillon, Pearce Quigley and Rade Sherbedgia will all appear in the adaptation.

It's a little confusing, as The Woods was previously adapted by Netflix in Poland just a few years ago, with the six-episode series premiering in the summer of 2020.

“Evidence found on the body of a homicide victim sparks hope in a prosecutor that his sister who disappeared 25 years earlier could still be alive,” the synopsis for the limited series read, which garnered a score of 6.6 from viewers, with many calling it a “solid series.”

Screenrant called the Polish-language production, set across two timelines, a “masterful example of non-linear storytelling” that has a “gripping, twist-filled nature of the source material.”

The newest limited series adaptation, which will span a total of 8 episodes, was written by Danny Brocklehurst and comes on the heels of many massive hits like the aforementioned Fool Me Once (the ninth most-popular English-language TV show ever, per Variety) and Run Away.

As for why The Woods is getting another adaptation, it remains one of Coben's "most personal novels," despite being published nearly 20 years ago on April 17, 2007.

“Like the story’s hero, Paul Copeland, I worked as a counselor at a sleepaway camp when I was too young for the job,” he told Tudum

As for what viewers can expect from the newest version, it’s being described as “a chilling mystery with a romantic core.”

The Woods will focus on the mystery of Paul ‘Cope’ Copeland’s sister, Camille, who vanished from a summer camp in the woods 20 years ago, leaving a family torn apart by the loss.

“Now a top barrister and devoted single father to ten-year-old daughter Cami,” Cope has rebuilt his life, but it all begins unraveling when the body of a man supposedly murdered alongside his sister turns up.

“Cope becomes convinced his sister may have made it out of the woods alive too. Determined to uncover the truth, Cope begins a search for answers, unearthing years of lies, cover-ups, and family secrets that threaten to destroy everything he has built,” the synopsis continues.

There is currently no premiere date, though the show currenty in production in the UK.

The #1 New York Times bestselling author has 14 titles produced for Netflix, according to Tudum, working alongside screenwriters around the world, and across four languages so far.

One of the most successful mystery writers of the past three decades, Coben has sold over 75 million books worldwide, with his breakout hit, Tell No One, The Innocent, Gone for Good and the recent bestseller, The Boy from the Woods, among some of his most successful titles.
