Let's be real: George Strait needs no introduction, but he deserves one anyway.

Born in Poteet, Texas, in 1952, Strait grew up in nearby Pearsall. His dad was a math teacher who also operated their family ranch. "My dad didn't even have a record player," Strait has said. "When he listened to the radio, it was usually for the news or the cow market reports."

His parents split when he was in fourth grade and by high school, he had discovered his passion for music. Believe it or not, Strait didn't start out as a country artist—he was actually part of a Beatles-inspired garage band! At 18, he enlisted in the Army and auditioned to be the lead singer of a country band on the base. But success did not come overnight for Strait. After completing his military service and returning to Texas, he spent years playing honky-tonks while working ranch jobs during the day, but never gave up on music. In fact, when "Unwound" first hit the charts in 1981, Strait was still working as a ranch foreman and heard his own song on the radio while driving in the fields!

Now 73 years old, Strait is called the King of Country, but that almost feels like an understatement: The "Amarillo by Morning" singer has had not six, but sixty No. 1 hits and sold over 70 million albums! Throughout his incredible journey, Strait has always stayed true to himself and never let fame define or change him.

On April 29, 2018, The Simpsons aired its 636th episode, earning the title of the longest-running primetime scripted series.

The animated show beat out Gunsmoke, which previously held the record. The Western aired from 1955 to 1977, premiering 635 episodes.

The first episode of The Simpsons was broadcast on December 17, 1989. The show just wrapped up its 37th season and released its 800th episode in February of this year.

The sitcom is renewed through season 40, and the show has no intention of ending anytime soon. 

“We did an episode about a year-and-a-half ago that was like a parody of the series finale. We jammed every possible series finale concept into one show, so that was sort of my way of saying we’re never going to do a series finale,” showrunner MattSelman told TheWrap in an interview earlier this year.

“We did a series finale in the middle of the show that made fun of all the ideas of wrapping everything up or ending,” he added.

What makes the show special to Selman is that the comedy can’t ever really end. Each week, anything is possible.

“The show isn’t supposed to change. The characters reset every week. It’s like Groundhog Day but they don’t know it — and they don’t die that much,” he said. “If the show ever did end, there’s no finale, it would just be a regular episode that has the family in it. Probably a little Easter egg here and there, but no ‘I’m going to miss this place.’”

The series has aired for almost 40 years, but not much has changed in the show’s universe. 

“We don’t really have a Show Bible. Only a few things have been kind of sticky — Lisa being vegetarian, or Patty being gay, Maude Flanders being dead, probably a couple others — but most other deaths and job changes and stuff are pretty fluid. That’s just part of the silly nature of the show,” the creator shared.

Selman started working for The Simpsons in 1997 and became an executive producer in 2005. He worked his way up to co-showrunner in 2021 and earned his current title as sole showrunner in 2024. He’s received seven Emmys for working on the series.

“Some people are still here, some people went on to do other things — the ones who stayed probably feel pretty good about that decision, given what happened to the rest of show business,” Selman said.

Since its creation, The Simpsons has received 104 Emmy nominations and 37 Emmy wins.

Willie Nelson is enjoying another trip around the sun. The legendary country music icon marked his 93rd birthday on Tuesday, April 29, 2026. 

Uniquely, Nelson gets to celebrate his birthday twice each year. Although his official birth occurred on the 29th of the month, according to American Songwriter, he was born so late that the county clerk was unable to take down the true date and recorded Nelson’s arrival as April 30 on paper. 

Despite the error, it’s a fitting quirk for an artist who has never followed the rules.

With a career spanning more than seven decades, Nelson has become a beloved figure in country music. Known as a pioneer, he was one of the first artists to establish the country music outlaw subgenre and is the name behind hits like “On the Road Again,” “Pretty Paper,” and “Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground.” 

But success, for him, didn’t come easily. 

Born Willie Hugh Nelson in Abbott, Texas, on April 29, 1933, Nelson picked up the guitar at an early age and never put it down. After a brief stint in the U.S. Air Force cut short by a medical discharge, Nelson worked as a DJ and honed his songwriting craft. Long before becoming famous, he was already shaping the sound of country music behind the scenes in Nashville, penning hits like “Crazy,” made famous by Patsy Cline, and “Hello Walls,” written for Faron Young. 

Frustrated with the Nashville system and reeling after losing his home in a fire, Nelson moved back home. The return to his home state of Texas soon paid off, as Nelson found his rhythm and sound with the release of Shotgun Willie, an album that showcased his raw, authentic style, which would go on to define his career. 

Nelson’s 1975 concept album, Red Headed Stranger, released via Columbia Records, was a career changer, reaching  No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart, bringing his name into the mainstream. The Fred Rose cover of “Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain” served as his first No. 1 hit. And, several albums followed.

Over the course of his career, Nelson released over a hundred albums, some of which were collaborations with other major artists. A few notable releases included 1978’s Willie & Waylon with Waylon Jennings, Pancho & Lefty with Merle Haggard, and the Highwayman albums, which included artists Jennings, Johnny Cash, and Kris Kristofferson. 

Beyond music, Nelson became an actor, author, and cultural icon known for his signature, distinctive braided look and red bandana. He is beloved for his roles as an activist, having helped organize and champion causes close to his heart, including Farm Aid, which has supported American farmers for decades.

Throughout his decorated career, Nelson has scored 59 Grammy nominations and won a dozen of them. Alongside his trophies is a slew of accolades, including an induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Additionally, Nelson is a recipient of the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, Grammy Legend Award, and various CMA and ACM awards.

The standings are based on a few key factors set by the popular entertainment review website, which include their signature Tomatometer score, which is the percentage of positive reviews that professional critics give. This means that the higher the percentage, the stronger the critical approval.

Another factor is the audience score, also known as the Popcornmeter, which shows how much the general audience liked a movie or TV show.

Lastly, the number of critic reviews considered for rankings is also a factor.

Rotten Tomatoes ranked 8 ½ at No. 293 on its list, earning a 97 percent Tomatometer score and a strong 91 percent Popcornmeter rating.

Based on the reviews, critics called it Fellini’s “masterpiece” that truly feels like a work of art.

Another review also praised the movie for its “ambitious, ambiguous and experimental form of navel-gazing.”

Set in the early 1960s, 8 ½ focuses on the life story of famous Italian director Guido Anselmi, played by the legendary Marcello Mastroianni.

The movie highlights his struggle with creative block, which leaves him unable to move forward as he attempts to start his next big project.

Joining Mastroianni in the star-studded lineup was Anouk Aimée as Guido’s estranged wife, Luisa Anselmi, Sandra Milo as the flamboyant mistress named Carla and Claudia Cardinale, who played the role of Claudia, the movie star who also happens to be Guido's ideal woman.

Apart from the positive reception from audiences at the time, 8 ½ also received widespread acclaim and recognition from various award-giving bodies.

It included winning two Academy Awards out of five nominations after the film took home Best Foreign Language Film and Best Costume Design.
