DWTS Judge Shares Family Update 3 Months After Devastating Loss

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 7:00am

Beloved Dancing With the Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba is giving fans a glimpse into a new chapter after enduring a difficult few months. Just weeks after opening up about a devastating personal loss—and days after a recent health scare led to an ambulance ride to the hospital—the television personality shared a heartfelt family update that quickly drew attention from fans online.

Inaba revealed that she recently rescued another dog, three months after losing her dog, Peanut.

"New family member alert. While I've been getting better, Lola and Loki are getting to know each other… #Lola&Loki New siblings," Inaba captioned an Instagram video of her two pups playing together.

View this post on Instagram

While Inaba has had Lola for years, she decided to give her a brother, adopting Loki from Big Love Animal Rescue in Los Angeles, California.

Fans are thrilled for Inaba, who has had a challenging few months.

"Loki’s already the protective big brother vibes," one person commented on Inaba's video.

"They're gonna be best friends," another wrote.

"Adorable!! They hit the jackpot with you for a mom!! Lucky pups," a third comment read.

"Best news today," someone else added.

It's a special time for Inaba, who was left heartbroken after saying goodbye to Peanut.

“Goodbye my eternal love…my little queen. It has been the honor of a lifetime to be yours,” Inaba, 58, captioned an Instagram post on Wednesday, Jan. 28.

Inaba has also been dealing with health issues in recent years. Earlier this month, she revealed that she'd suffered a "small medical emergency" on a recent flight. In a candid Instagram post, Inaba said that she initially thought she had food poisoning but she got worried when she "broke out into a cold sweat, got dizzy" and her arms "went numb."

Inaba has been dealing with some health issues, including effects of Sjogren's, a chronic auto-immune disease that she was diagnosed with in 2013.

These 4 Zodiac Signs Face Reality Checks As Uranus Enters Gemini

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 6:31am

Since 2018, Uranus, the planet of change, rebellion, revolution, and electrifying innovation has been cruising through fixed earth sign Taurus. In turn, we’ve seen massive shifts in Taurean areas of life: money, sensuality, earning and security, practical goals, and how you’re interacting with the physical world around you. And as Uranus has cruised through a particular sector of your birth chart, you’ve seen a complete makeover of that area of life. For instance, if Uranus has been in your tenth house of career, your professional path and public image likely looks a lot different today than it did eight years ago. If it’s been in your fifth house of romance, self-expression, and children, you’ve embraced greater freedom and unconventional approaches when it comes to dating, creative pursuits, and maybe even growing your family.

But beginning April 25, 2026, Uranus will move into Gemini, the mutable air sign known for its off-the-charts communication savvy, appetite for learning, and desire to flit from one activity to the next, ideally alongside a diverse, ever-changing group of friends and colleagues. Until 2033, the Great Awakener planet will bring gasp-worthy changes on a collective level in terms of how we connect with one another, travel, use technology, learn, brainstorm, and gather and share information.

While every sign will face personal shakeups in a particular area of their life as Uranus begins to blaze a new trail through Gemini, four signs will hit reality checks.

As the planet of radical change enters your sign and first house of self-image and confidence, you’ll be hit with the sudden realization that the way you’ve been presenting yourself out in the world simply isn’t 100 percent aligned with who you feel you are at your core. It’s time to begin gathering information, diving into research, and even looking back on the soul-searching that you’ve done over the last eight years in order to begin crafting a new personal brand. You’ll feel deeply empowered by changing up how you’re expressing yourself — whether that’s through a personal style overhaul or by taking more risks when tapping into artistic impulses.

Virgo

Since 2018, the planet of rebellion and shocking change has been moving through your ninth house of higher education, overhauling how you see the world, your philosophies on life, and how you soak up knowledge. Now, as it enters your tenth house of career and public image, you’re beginning to open your eyes to any patterns, habits, approaches, and dynamics in your professional path that you’ve outgrown. You might also be drawn to striking out on your own (think: starting your own business) or working with technology in a new and thrilling way. You can look forward to a soaring sense of free-spiritedness that will inform how you strive to make your mark.

Sagittarius

Uranus, the Great Awakener planet, has delivered lightbulb moments and shakeups to how you go about your everyday hustle and care for your health and well-being, because it has been moving through your sixth house of wellness since 2018. Prepare for a very different vibe as it moves into your seventh house of partnership, offering a wake-up call around how you’ve been showing up within your one-on-one bonds. It’s possible that you’ve been keeping certain platonic or romantic bonds or business relationships afloat by default. But now, you’ll feel a rising sense of rebelliousness and desire to march to the beat of your own drum that could lead to seeing partners in a new light. Over the next seven years, lean into telling it like it is and stating exactly what you need.

Uranus has been overhauling how you gather information and express yourself as it has made its way through your third house of communication since 2018. You may feel even more adept at sharing what’s in your heart and talking through your most creative ideas — and those skills are sure to come in handy as the Great Awakener lands in your fourth house of home life. Until 2033, you’ll be on a journey dedicated to shaking up your inner emotional world, whether that involves actually moving your physical home, embracing new ways of addressing old wounds with loved ones (think: family counseling or even using astrology to better understand one another), and moving beyond stale narratives and conditioning from your early life that has held you back until now. Though this transit may feel decentering at times, take heart that you’ll have a clear runway for experimenting with new methods for healing and nurture your bonds with your nearest and dearest.

1974 No. 1 Pop Smash Left Listeners Stunned When They Learned It Wasn’t Neil Diamond

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 6:19am

In 1974, music fans did a double take when a voice strikingly similar to Neil Diamond climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard charts with a catchy pop hit.

Andy Kim was the artist behind the chart-topper, "Rock Me Gently." The song’s unexpected success quickly sparked confusion among listeners who couldn’t believe it wasn’t the familiar voice they were hearing.

The mix up was obvious to many radio fans. Both singers had rich, baritone voices that sounded almost indistinguishable.

In 2019, Stereogum said that in "Rock Me Gently," "[Kim] sounds almost exactly like Neil Diamond, a schticky belter with a clearly audible grin. Maybe 'Rock Me Gently' is a Neil Diamond ripoff. (The way Kim delivers the line "you got the moves" could almost be a sample.) It's formulaic as all hell, but formulas become formulas for a reason."

In the caption of a fan-created Instagram reel asking, “Who thought this was Neil Diamond at one time?” listeners shared their thoughts on the Andy Kim song. Many admitted they were completely fooled by the vocal similarity, while others said the comparison made perfect sense in hindsight.

"When I first heard the song, I thought the same," penned one music fan. A second added, "I’ve always thought this was Neil Diamond. Still do, even though I know it’s not him."

"He does look like Neil Diamond! Sounds like him too," wrote a third listener. "I have always thought this song was by Neil!! Only a few years ago found out, thanks to Instagram Lol!! Now I gotta turn in my 70s card," joked a fourth fan.

Before the huge success of "Rock Me Gently," Kim was an established songwriter. He moved to New York City as a teenager from Canada, and worked at the infamous Brill Building, a major songwriting hub and home to Carole King, Gerry Goffin, Barry Mann, Cynthia Weil, and Jeff Barry.

According to Stereogum, Kim partnered with Barry to write The Archie's hits, "Sugar, Sugar" (which he sang background vocals on), "Jingle Jangle" and The Monkees "Oh My My." However, when the songwriting hits stopped, Kim relied on his knowledge in the music business to record and produce "Rock Me Gently" himself. The song eventually went to No. 1 on the Billboard charts.

In an interview with Canadian Billboard, Kim recalled the moment he learned the song hit the top of the charts. "Rock Me Gently was on the charts for four months. I cried. Then a night I remember -  Al Corey called me at midnight on a Tuesday, because Tuesday is when Billboard changed their charts. By the time you've got the print, it was the weekend. He told me it hit #1 on Billboard Hot 100. I cried like a baby."

He continued, "It was like an athlete or someone who just worked so hard to climb up that hill and, once they got there, not only are you exhausted, and you've given every ounce of your body and intellect and emotions into something, it really was so sweet. Then John Lennon gives me my gold record a couple of weeks later and I get to hang with him. So much that's been given to me was because I was brave enough to dream."

Andy Kim continues to perform. "Rock Me Gently" has been featured in commercials for Jeep and Jif, and has been covered by artists such as Michelle Wright, Trans-Canada Highwaymen, Dylan Lock, and James Last.

15 Outdoor Room Ideas That Make a Backyard Feel Like an Extension of Your Home

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 6:15am

A good outdoor space doesn't look like an afterthought—instead, it should contain some of the elements that make well-designed interior spaces so special: pretty patterns, thoughtful accents, even artwork. Below are 15 outdoor rooms that will help your backyard become an extension of the home—you truly won't want to return inside!

1. Cozy Cushions

Frazer Harrison Getty

Take time to make your outdoor gathering area into a spot where you'll truly want to stay a while. Adding comfortable cushioned furniture, decorative throw pillows and even a television, like Mary Patton Design did here, will make your space comfortable and welcoming.

2. Luxe Lighting

Take a cue from Courtnay Tartt Elias, the founder of Creative Tonic Design, and liven up an outdoor dining area with colorful upholstery and indoor-inspired details like an artful pendant fixture (eye-catching lighting is not solely for interior spaces!).

3. Style-Forward Selections

Keep in mind that the furniture you select to use outside doesn't have to lean overly outdoorsy-looking. In this space by Elias, cushioned armchairs, a fun scalloped coffee table and even some coffee table books nicely complement more traditional porch pieces such as a wicker sofa and garden stool.

4. Artful Accents

Don't forget the decor, too! In this spot, Elias brought in books as well as other accents such as vases and trinkets to make this seating setup feel more complete and permanent.

5. Peppy Hues

Bring on the color! While many pieces of outdoor furniture are neutral in color, there's no need to avoid vibrant tones if that's more your aesthetic. Opt for punchy stripes, soothing blues or a mix of both as Elias did in this backyard.

6. Add Pattern

Just as you would mix patterns indoors, embrace patterns outside, too! Yellow, black and white are full of energy, and the pieces that Elias selected here are also great for camouflaging any stains or spills that occur over time.

7. Include a Reliable Rug

Laying down a sizable rug outside is always a great way to warm up any room, as Lauren Hulbrink, the founder of Lauren Hulbrink Interiors, did on this patio. Jute is known for being durable and classic both indoors and out.

8. Seamless Transition

Draw inspiration from the team at Third Street Architecture, who created a seamless indoor-outdoor living space with the help of sliding doors that open up directly onto the deck. This function makes hosting a total breeze.

9. Small Yet Mighty

This space designed by Pascale de Fouchier, the founder of Pascale de Fouchier Interiors, proves that you don't need tons of square footage to curate a functional, chic outdoor living space. By opting for smaller-scale furniture with clean lines, you can still easily relax and entertain outdoors without being worried about visual overwhelm.

10. Traditional Take

How darling is this patio setup by the team at Barnes Vanze Architects? You can never go wrong with a simple, symmetrical look if your style leans elegant and traditional.

11. Curves Ahead

Use your outdoor space as an opportunity to partake in your favorite design trends. Here, the team at ODE Design said yes to curved furniture galore—this look is having a major moment right now and isn't just for the living room.

12. Intentional Details

Elevate your outdoor dining display with a pretty tablecloth and flowers in a nice planter, as Emily Sturgess, the founder of Emily Sturgess Design, did here. Small details like these will go a long way in making meals al fresco feel a bit more intentional.

13. Pretty Prints

Why not hang a few pieces of artwork outdoors? Jennifer Hunter, the founder of Jennifer Hunter Design, displayed pretty floral works on a trellis-like accent wall within this screened-in porch.

14. Eye-Catching Art

Of course, you can go even larger scale with your outdoor artwork as well, as seen in this space by Liz Goldberg, the founder of CAROLYNLEONA. This mod triptych is sizable and impactful and elements the need for much other patio decor.

15. Grand Table

Goldberg also outfitted this outdoor space with an oversized dining table and chair set. Opting for outdoor furniture that doesn't look like outdoor furniture is an excellent way to up a space's style factor.

Walmart's Boho-Style $26 Terracotta Pots Are a 'Super Cute' Upgrade for Spring Plants

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 6:15am

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

If you’ve been looking for a cute spring decor update that also gives your plants a nicer home, Walmart has a deal that’s worth a look. The Buymax 6-Inch Boho Terracotta Planter Set is currently marked down to just $26 from $56, with the red version being the best deal of the bunch. It’s available in five colors: blue, gray, green, red, and white.

The planters are made from high-temperature fired terracotta and come as a set of two with matching saucers. Each one measures 6.7 by 6.3 by 6.1 inches and features a built-in drainage hole. The geometric embossed pattern gives them a more stylish look than a plain clay pot, and they work well indoors or outdoors with succulents, herbs, snake plants, and other small to medium plants.

These would be cute with herbs in the kitchen, a snake plant on a shelf, or a pair of trailing plants near a window. The terracotta red color has a warm, earthy look that works especially well for spring. Plus, the included saucers make these planters much more apartment-friendly, while the textured finish gives them plenty of personality to stand out on their own, even before you add greenery.

One shopper called the planters “beautiful” and “very stylish,” while another said they’re “super cute” and “just the right size.” Reviewers also mentioned how much they appreciated the drainage, which can make a huge difference when you want something that looks decorative but still works for plant care.

Since you’re getting two planters in one purchase, you can split them between two rooms, keep them together for a more balanced look, or use one now and save the other for your next plant. That makes the set feel like a much more practical purchase, rather than getting a single decorative pot, especially if you’re trying to upgrade a space without spending much.

If your place could use a small decor upgrade that doesn’t cost a fortune, this is a great one to grab while it’s on sale. The Buymax 6-Inch Boho Terracotta Planter Set offers a splash of color, texture, and functionality, so whether you’re spring plant shopping or just looking for an easy decor refresh, this set is easily worthy of a spot in your cart.

The Most Prestigious List in Travel Just Named Disney and Royal Caribbean Among the Best New Cruises in the World

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 6:10am

The annual Condé Nast Traveler Hot List has arrived and while the 30th edition is filled with "floating sanctuaries" in the Amazon and high-end superyachts, it contains a surprising win for the everyday traveler. In a departure from purely ultra-luxury boutiques, the editors have officially recognized the newest ships from Disney Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, and Norwegian Cruise Line as some of the "best new cruises" on the planet for 2026.

The inclusion of the Disney Destiny is perhaps the biggest standout for the high-end publication. Launched in late 2025, the ship was praised for "reimagining what immersive cruising can be" through its heroes-and-villains theme. The report highlights that while the ship is family-focused, its "dedicated adult retreats" like Enchanté by a three-Michelin-starred chef ensure the grown-ups are as well looked after as the kids.

Similarly, Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas—currently one of the world's largest ships—secured a spot for proving that a "floating city" can still offer a premium experience. From its Central Park neighborhood filled with thousands of living plants to its high-flying ziplines, the ship was recognized for being "built purely for fun" without sacrificing the level of service and hospitality the magazine's global editors demand.

For the average traveler, this list serves as a massive validation. It proves that you don't need to book a 15-passenger icebreaker to experience "world-class" travel. Major mainstream brands are "raising the bar" for design and culinary excellence, with ships like the Norwegian Aqua and Celebrity Xcelearning praise for their "exceptional cuisine" and upscale atmospheres that "rival restaurants on land."

Whether it is the Star Princess and its authentic Neapolitan pizzeria or the wellness-forward Viking Vesta, the message from the "Hot List" is clear: the biggest names in the industry are now the ones setting the global standard for luxury.

Eve Plumb Makes Surprising Confession About ‘The Brady Bunch’

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 6:04am

Fans have watched The Brady Bunch on repeat for nearly 60 years. The beloved sitcom, which aired on ABC from 1969 to 1974, has never been off the air, and its 117 episodes are the kind of nostalgic comfort food that fans return to over and over again decades later.

But in a new interview, one of the series stars admitted she doesn’t watch the show—and never really did. Eve Plumb, who played middle child Jan Brady on the series, told Pop Culture Preservation Society that she only watched the episodes once, when they aired for the first time on TV decades ago.

“As far as watching them, I didn't, other than like first run, I don't really watch them,” Plumb, 67, shared. “I would watch it every week when it was on. I would watch it, my mom and dad, and I would watch it.It was hard to watch. It took me a while before I could really watch myself on TV."

RELATED: ‘Brady Bunch’ Star Reveals the No. 1 Question He Still Gets From Fans

Plumb, who recently published her memoir, Happiness Included, does have fond memories of filming the series. “Usually [fans] ask, ‘What are your favorite episodes?’” she told The Orange County Register, adding that her favorite filming experiences were the episodes that featured Brady family trips.

“I always like the ones where we traveled,” Plumb said. “You know, the Hawaii episodes, getting to go places, getting to go to the Grand Canyon was great. Because for me, it's not necessarily the episode that I watch, it was the episode that I film. So for me, Grand Canyon was fun. For me, Hawaii was fun.”

Plumb isn’t the only Brady who doesn’t rewatch

Several of Plumb’s TV siblings have not only rewatched the episodes but have recapped them. Brady Bunch brothers Barry Williams (Greg) and Christopher Knight (Peter) had a long-running podcast, The Real Brady Bros., on which they broke down the most iconic episodes.

But co-star Maureen McCormick (Marcia, Marcia, Marcia) was on the same page as Plumb. Speaking with the Palm Beach Post, McCormick revealed she was one and done with the episodes. "I've never been a fan of really sitting in front of the TV and watching it myself," she once told the outlet, per Me TV. "If I've seen it once, I've seen it, and I want to move on."

"It's the people that were the highlight for me," The Brady Bunch star added. "We had an amazing bond between each other, like a real family. I couldn't have fallen into a better group of people. …It was a great show to be a part of, that made so many people so happy. There's not much in this world that helps you escape that is free and healthy.”

1980 Classic Ranked Among the ‘Top Rock Songs of All Time’ Sparked One of Rock’s Greatest Comebacks

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 5:28am

In 1980, Ozzy Osbourne recorded what would become his signature song. Released in August 1980 in the UK and in February 1981 in the U.S., “Crazy Train”  was Osbourne’s first single as a solo artist after he was fired from Black Sabbath. Written by Osbourne, Randy Rhoads, and Bob Daisley, the riff-heavy song appeared on the album Blizzard of Ozz and was a highlight on the rocker’s accompanying 1980-81 tour.

While it was a concert hit and rock radio staple, "Crazy Train” took decades to break the Billboard Hot 100. It finally peaked at No. 39 on Aug 9, 2025, following the rocker’s death. But it will forever be known as one of Osbourne’s greatest songs.

Forty-five years after its release, Ultimate Classic Rock ranked “Crazy Train” at No. 34 on its list of 100 Top Rock Songs of all time. The outlet shared that Osbourne was “pretty much written off at the end of the '70s” after being fired from Black Sabbath. “Then, as the new decade dawned, he got a new band, a new record deal, and a renewed lease on life. The hurtling ‘Crazy Train’  proved he was back,” UCR noted.

Indeed, “Crazy Train” quickly silenced critics who felt the former Black Sabbath frontman could never make it on his own.

A crazy songwriting session

Osbourne once shared details about the “Crazy Train” songwriting process, telling Ear Of Newt the song wasn’t autobiographical.

“I mean, sometimes when you have a busy day, and the phone never stops ringing you think, ‘Jeez, when is it all gonna stop?’” he shared. “It’s not just a personal song; it’s for everybody. There’s a different meaning for everything on that song. It’s what affects people and what affected me at the time.”

“At the time of writing that, there was only me and Randy, and we were trying to get players, and everything was flying at us. There was just one thing after another, you know, and I was thinking, ‘Oh, I’m going crazy’. You just think that you’re going off the rails on a crazy train,” he added.

Daisley claimed that Rhoads’s famous guitar riff helped spawn the song’s title. “That signature riff in F-sharp-minor from ‘Crazy Train’ was Randy’s, then I wrote the part for him to solo over, and Ozzy had the vocal melody,” he told Louder. “The title came because Randy had an effect that was making a psychedelic chugging sound through his amp. Randy and I were train buffs, and I said: ‘That sounds like a crazy train.’ Ozzy had this saying ‘You’re off the rails!’ so I used that in the lyrics.”

RELATED:  ‘80s Rocker Calls Out Former Bandmates Amid Reunion Tours

An unlikely comeback

“Crazy Train” probably wouldn’t have happened if it hadn’t been for Sharon Osbourne, who took over managing her future husband’s career after he was fired from Black Sabbath.

In 2010, Ozzy Osbourne told Classic Rock, “I’d been booted out. I just got f---ed up every day. Never went outside. Never even opened the drapes. …One morning, Sharon just came round and told me: ‘Get your s--- together, I’ll manage you.’ Once she was in the picture, things got rolling. Sharon absolutely deserves credit for getting that album out of me."

During a 2020 episode of his Ozzy’s Boneyard podcast on Sirius XM, Osbourne revealed he knew his first solo single was something special as soon as he recorded it. “When it played in the control room, one of the people up there would go ‘I really like the song,'" he said of "Crazy Train."

"When I make a record, I make it for me, primarily, and then if you like it, great," Osbourne added. "But I knew it was a good song. It still is.”

1961 Country Icon Turned Classic Heartbreak Anthem Into a Major Hit After Changing the Title

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 5:28am

Before singer Willie Nelson, 92, became the country music legend he is today, he was once a struggling songwriter selling his words in Texas for cash. In fact, he originally hawked his iconic heartbreaker song "Crazy" to the late Patsy Cline in the early 1960s, and she turned it into the long-lasting heartbreak hit. First, however, they had to make very significant change to the original song title, which wasn't too bright a song title at first.

Photo by Michael Ochs Archives on Getty Images

During his VH1 Storytellers performance alongside another legendary singer Johnny Cash, Nelson took a moment to share the original title of this song.

“The original title was 'Stupid,'" Nelson told Cash and the Storytellers audience, "but it didn’t sound very euphonious so ..."

Watch Willie Nelson share the original song title for his hit song "Crazy" around 14:45:

Nelson doesn't go on to explain if he changed the title himself or if Cline's team ultimately made the fix, but it does make you wonder if this amazingly iconic love anthem would have ever gotten off the ground without the simple edit. Nelson's right, after all, we can't really sway in place thinking about Cline crooning, "Stuuuuupid..."

Cline recorded "Crazy" in August 1961, and released the song in October of the same year. Cline's version of the song became a No. 2 country hit, second only to her other hit song "I Fall to Pieces," and climbed to No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Nelson, who had recorded a demo of the song before selling it to Cline, also released a studio version of "Crazy" in 1962 on his debut album, … And Then I Wrote. However, Nelson's rendition of the song didn't make the charts.

The song "Crazy" has been recorded by numerous artists, including Linda Rondstadt (1977) and Julio Iglesias (1994).

An Unusually Early Fire Season Is Putting Western United States Travel on Edge

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 5:25am

The 2026 wildfire season is off to an alarming start and not just because of how intense it may become, but because of how early it has begun. Traditionally, peak wildfire season in the United States runs from late spring through summer, with August as the most active month. But this year, dangerous fire conditions have emerged weeks or even months earlier than expected, raising concerns for travelers planning trips across the western U.S.

Recent data from AccuWeather shows that wildfires are already burning at elevated levels across multiple regions, with forecasts predicting between 5.5 and 8 million acres burned nationwide in 2026. That scale alone would be significant, but what’s more concerning is how early the conditions for these fires have taken hold.

Where Fires Are Already Happening

While the West is typically the focal point of wildfire season, early 2026 has seen widespread fire activity across multiple regions. States like Colorado, New Mexico, and parts of the Plains have already experienced significant fires, fueled by dry vegetation, strong winds, and unusually warm temperatures. Even areas outside the traditional western fire zone, such as Oklahoma and parts of the Southeast, have seen significant wildfire outbreaks earlier than expected.

This widespread activity is tied to a larger environmental pattern: drought. As of April, more than 60% of the U.S. is experiencing drought conditions, with particularly severe impacts in western states. These dry conditions turn forests, grasslands, and brush into ready fuel.

 Risk in the Coming Months

Looking ahead, wildfire risk is expected to intensify across much of the western United States as summer approaches. Key high-risk areas include:

  • California and the Pacific Northwest, where a snow drought and early snowmelt have left landscapes unusually dry
  • The Southwest, including Arizona and New Mexico, where heat and wind patterns accelerate fire spread
  • The Rocky Mountain region, particularly Colorado, where low snowpack and drought are already present

Compounding the issue is a developing heat wave along the Pacific coast, which could further elevate temperatures and increase fire-friendly conditions later in the season .

Why an Early Start Is So Concerning

An early wildfire season suggests that the environmental conditions that drive fires, such as heat, drought, and dry vegetation, are intensifying.

This year, record-breaking heat waves in March pushed temperatures 20–40°F above average in parts of the West, accelerating snowpack melt and drying out vegetation far earlier than usual . Snowpack acts as a natural water reservoir; when it disappears too soon, landscapes dry out quickly and remain vulnerable for longer periods.

In practical terms, an earlier start means a longer fire season. That increases the likelihood of larger, more destructive fires and stretches firefighting resources thin over time.

What This Means for Travelers

For travelers, especially those planning road trips, camping excursions, or national park visits in the West, this early fire season introduces new uncertainties.

Wildfires can lead to:

  • Sudden park or forest closures
  • Poor air quality due to smoke
  • Evacuations or road shutdowns
  • Disruptions to flights and outdoor activities

Even areas not directly affected by flames can experience hazardous air quality from drifting smoke.

How to Prepare for Travel During Wildfire Season

Traveling during wildfire season is still possible but it requires flexibility and awareness.

  • Monitor conditions regularly: Check fire maps, weather alerts, and air quality indexes leading up to and during your trip.
  • Build flexibility into your itinerary: Have backup destinations or alternate routes in case conditions change.
  • Pack for smoke and emergencies: Bring N95 masks, extra water, and a basic emergency kit, especially for remote travel.
  • Follow local guidance: Respect fire bans, evacuation notices, and park closures; they can change rapidly.
  • Book refundable accommodations: This reduces financial risk if plans need to change at the last minute.

A New Normal?

The early start to wildfire season in 2026 reflects a broader trend. Climate change is contributing to hotter temperatures, reduced snowpack, and more frequent droughts, all of which increase wildfire risk. In fact, wildfires are no longer confined to a predictable “season” and can occur year-round in some regions.

For travelers, this means adapting to a new reality where wildfire awareness is just as important as weather forecasting. Planning ahead and staying informed can make the difference between a disrupted trip and a safe, memorable journey.

Uniworld Debuts Its Latest Masterpiece as the S.S. Emilie Sets Sail on the Danube

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 5:10am

The S.S. Emilie officially set sail on the Danube in March, marking a defining moment for Uniworld as the brand’s first new build since 2021.

This "Super Ship" serves as a floating tribute to the Austrian painter Gustav Klimt and is named after his beloved muse, the visionary designer Emilie Flöge. The newly released images confirm that the vessel is a floating Art Nouveau masterpiece, heavily leaning into the dramatic jewel tones and gold accents that defined Klimt’s "Golden Phase."

Uniworld

The sensory experience begins the moment you board, and the design details are stunning. As Ellen Bettridge, President and CEO of Uniworld Boutique River Cruises notes, "One of the first things guests will notice is the use of rich, dark wood throughout the ship. Today, authentic wood detailing is increasingly rare, yet it creates an immediate sense of warmth and intimacy. Combined with custom furnishings and one-of-a-kind art pieces, the S.S. Emilie feels less like boarding a ship and more like stepping into a beautifully curated boutique hotel." This warmth extends into the social spaces, where bold patterns and metallic textures enliven the lounges and restaurants.

The stateroom configuration is equally innovative, offering a level of flexibility rarely seen on the rivers. Guests who book a Grand Suite and the adjoining Deluxe French Balcony next door can see their stateroom transformed into an incredibly spacious 2-bedroom suite. The Grand Suites themselves are lavishly appointed with custom sateen sheets and marble bathrooms featuring Asprey products. Betteridge emphasizes that this ship represents both "progress and purpose as our most sustainable vessel to date, while introducing a design concept unlike anything currently sailing the rivers."

Uniworld

Dining on board is equally transportive, with menus tailored to the destination—whether the ship is sailing the Rhine, Main or Danube. "Because everything is included—from premium wines and spirits to locally inspired cuisine and curated excursions—there’s no hesitation, no second-guessing," notes Betteridge.

As the S.S. Emilie begins her inaugural season, she represents the brand's mission to explore without limits. "She isn’t simply the next ship in our series; she’s a statement about where Uniworld is headed," leadership explains. "We’re building ships that are not only more environmentally advanced but also more expressive in their design and storytelling. It’s an exciting moment because we’re honoring our heritage while boldly shaping the future of river cruising."

Why Janet Jackson Isn't in 'Michael'—and Who Is

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 5:06am

The entertainment industry is full of famous families, from the Kardashians to the Coppolas, but few are as iconic as the Jacksons. Made up of ten talented siblings, the musical clan birthed pop-culture titans like Michael Jackson andJanet Jackson and produced one of the most successful family bands in music history in The Jackson 5.

And many of those family members (albeit dramatized versions) are now on the big screen with the release of the musical biopic Michael, which stars Jaafar Jackson as Michael Jackson and chronicles the legendary performer's early days with The Jackson 5 in the 1960s through his astonishing solo career in the late 1970s and early '80s.

Hitting theaters stateside today—Friday, April 24—the Antoine Fuqua-directed bio-drama was made with the approval of and involvement by the Jackson family as well as Michael Jackson's estate. The Jackson dynasty, including MJ's siblingsLa Toya, Marlon, Jermaine and Jackie, came out to support the film at its Los Angeles premiere.

“I think it’s very important that everybody in the family was involved and took part in this to make sure you get it right," La Toya Jackson told The Hollywood Reporter at the event. "A lot of times people think they know the story and they read about things, but when the family’s involved, the family can say yay or nay.”

But not every Jackson is in the movie. Michael's famous sister Janet declined to participate, and his daughter Paris Jackson has spoken out against the film's "fantasy" portrayal of her father. With Michael in theaters now, here's which Jacksons made it onscreen, who worked behind the scenes—and who stayed away entirely.

Why Isn't Janet Jackson in the 'Michael' movie?

You'll see many of the Jackson siblings depicted in the film—but not Janet. The 59-year-old star simply chose not to be. At the Los Angeles premiere of Michael, sister La Toya Jackson confirmed that Janet had been asked to participate but declined the invitation.

"I wish everybody was in the movie," La Toya told Variety. "She was asked and she kindly declined, so you have to respect her wishes."

Fuqua—the film's director—also addressed Janet's absence. "I would love Janet to be there," he told Variety. "I have so much respect and love for Janet, but you know it's okay. She's supportive of Jaafar and that's what matters."

Janet has not publicly commented on her decision. Michael's younger brother Randy—who joined The Jackson 5 in 1975—is not depicted in the film either.

Which Jackson family members are in the Michael movie?

The new biopic Michael depicts several members of the Jackson family—including Michael Jackson (played by Michael's real-life nephew Jaafar Jackson), his parents Joe and Katherine (portrayed by Colman Domingo andNia Long, respectively) and his siblings Jermaine (Jamal R. Henderson as an adult and Jayden Harville as a child), Marlon (Tre Horton as an adult and Jaylen Lyndon Hunter as a child), Tito (Rhyan Hill as an adult and Judah Edwards as a child), Jackie (Joseph David-Jones as an adult and Nathaniel Logan McIntyre as a child) and La Toya (Jessica Sula).

Onscreen, Jaafar Jackson is the only actual family member to appear in the film; however, Michael's eldest son Prince Jacksonserved as an executive producer on the project and the production received input from the larger Jackson clan. Two notable women in the Jackson family distanced themselves from the film: Michael's famous sister Janet Jackson, who declined to participate, and his only daughter Paris Jackson, who criticized the film's "fantasy" portrayal of her father.

“They’re going to make whatever they’re going to make," Paris wrote on social media in since-expired posts last September, per The Guardian. "A big reason why I haven’t said anything up until this point is because I know a lot of you guys are gonna be happy with it...The film panders to a very specific section of my dad’s fandom that still lives in the fantasy, and they’re gonna be happy with it.”

Who are the members of the Jackson family?

Led by parents Joe Jackson and Katherine Jackson, the Jackson family consists of ten siblings: Rebbie, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, La Toya, Marlon, Brandon, Michael, Randy and Janet. The following generation includes Michael Jackson's childrenPrince, Paris and Bigi, Tito Jackson's sons Taj, Taryll and TJ (who comprise the R&B group 3T) and Jermaine's son Jaafar Jackson, who portrays his world-famous uncle in the new Michael movie.

What is the Jackson family known for?

Called the "Royal Family of Pop," the Jacksons are one of the entertainment industry's most iconic families, thanks to the success of the musical group The Jackson 5—comprised of brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, Michael and later Randy—which produced such hit songs as "I Want You Back," "I'll Be There," "ABC" and "The Love You Save," among others. Plus, the group launched the legendary solo careers of Michael and Janet Jackson.

Michael, in particular, became one of the most influential performers in history, and is responsible for the best-selling album of all time, 1982's Thriller. Overall, six members of the Jackson family have been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame: The Jackson 5 bandmates as well as Janet, with Michael inducted both as a solo artist in addition to his group induction.

How old are the Jacksons in order?

In order from oldest to youngest, the Jackson siblings include:

  • Rebbie (born 1950)
  • Jackie (born 1951)
  • Tito (born 1953)
  • Jermaine (born 1954)
  • La Toya (born 1956)
  • Marlon (born 1957)
  • Brandon (born 1957; Marlon's twin who died at birth)
  • Michael (born 1958)
  • Randy (born 1961)
  • Janet (born 1966)

What is the Jackson family's net worth?

Though the exact overall net worth of the Jackson family is unknown, it's certainly in the hundreds of millions of dollars, thanks to the massive fortune of both the late Michael Jackson's estate (which has reportedly generated $2 billion since the singer died in 2009) and the sizable net worth of sister Janet, estimated at a cool $180 million, per Celebrity Net Worth.

How many of the Jackson siblings have passed away?

Three of the ten Jackson siblings have died. Brandon Jackson, twin to Marlon, died on March 13, 1957, one day after his birth in Gary, Indiana; the cause of death was respiratory failure.

Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009, at the age of 50 at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, after suffering cardiac arrest at his home. The music legend died of acute propofol intoxication, which was later ruled a homicide; his personal physician Conrad Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in November 2011 and was released in 2013 after serving two years of his four-year prison sentence, for good behavior.

And older brother Tito Jackson died in 2024, after suffering a fatal heart attack in Gallup, New Mexico on September 15. He was 70 years old.

Seven of the ten Jackson siblings are still alive: Rebbie, Jackie, Jermaine, La Toya, Marlon, Randy and Janet.

10 Bizarre Airport Vending Machines That Prove Travel Has Gone Crazy

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 4:55am

Airports have always been built around convenience. Moving people quickly through the terminals while giving them just enough access for a quick bite, forgotten essentials, or a last-minute souvenir. That idea hasn't changed, but how it's presented has. In some terminals, you can buy everything from Lego sets at Charlotte Douglas International Airport to iPads and mobile phones at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, without ever stepping into a store. That same approach has made its way into food, where vending machines now do far more than dispense quick snacks and sodas.

What's changed isn't just the technology—it's the expectation. Travelers don't just want something fast and filling anymore; they want something good, even if they only have a few minutes before boarding. That shift has pushed vending machines into new territory, turning them into compact kitchens capable of delivering hot meals, fresh ingredients, and even brand-name restaurant items. In some parts of the world, vending machines have gone even further, offering everything from full-plated meals to freshly shucked oysters. In the U.S., the trend is a little more grounded, but no less surprising.

😋😋SIGN UP to get delicious recipes, handy kitchen hacks & more in our daily Pop Kitchen newsletter🍳🍔

Some of these machines feel like natural upgrades, solving real problems for people in a hurry. Others blur the line between convenience and novelty. Either way, they're changing how people eat in airports—and raising questions about how far automated dining can really go.

What Are the Weirdest Vending Machines Found in Airports?

We've taken a look at some of the weirdest and most surprising vending machine offerings you'll find in airports around the U.S. and Canada, and ranked our picks for the craziest ones in reverse order below.

10. Salads and Grain Bowls (ORD) View this post on Instagram

At Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, vending machines have taken a healthier turn with options from Farmer's Fridge. Instead of snacks, the Chicago-based company stocks machines with fresh salads, grain bowls, and protein-packed meals in refrigerated glass jars. It's not the flashiest option on this list, but it definitely sets the tone—airport vending isn't just about convenient snack food anymore; it's about quality food.

9. Warm Cookies (STL) @alibicookies

No need to pinch yourself... this is not a dream! 🌙😴 24/7 Warm Cookie Vending Machine! 🍪😋 #AlibiCookies #WarmCookieDeliciousness #AlibiSTL #AlibiJC #WarmCookieVendingMachine #24Hours7DaysAWeek #warmcookies #cookies #machine

Perfectly warm cookies coming out of a vending machine sounds unlikely—until you see one in action. These machines from Alibi Cookies in St. Louis dispense warm cookies on the spot, delivering a fresh box in minutes at the city's St. Louis Lambert International Airport. In busy terminals, that small upgrade can feel like a luxury, especially when the smell hits before you even place your order.

8. Smoothies (YZR) View this post on Instagram

Robotic smoothie kiosks use automated arms to blend drinks to order using real ingredients. Companies like Trendi Technology and Blendid have introduced these systems in airports like Vancouver International Airport, as well as college campuses and other public spaces, offering a made-to-order option without staff. It's one of the clearest examples of automation moving into the healthier food space.

7. Mac and Cheese (ATL) View this post on Instagram

At Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, some vending machines have crossed into full "mini restaurant" territory. Instead of snacks, one kiosk is serving up hot comfort food by way of mac and cheese on demand. The vending machine offers a hearty and filling meal without the wait.

6. Wow Bao (CHS)

Fast-casual chain Wow Bao has rolled out automated kiosks that serve hot bao buns and rice bowls. Next time you're passing through Charleston International Airport, grab a Teriyaki Chicken or Chinese-Style BBQ Pork bun as you head for your gate. Advanced food machines like these feel less like a vending machine and more like compact, staff-free kitchens, showing how brands are adapting to airport environments.

5. Cupcake ATMs (DFW) View this post on Instagram

Cupcake ATMs might be one of the more unexpected vending concepts to show up in airports, but Dallas Fort Worth International Airport travelers can take advantage of them. Popularized by Sprinkles Cupcakes, these machines store fresh cupcakes behind glass and dispense them one at a time, 24 hours a day. It's a quick dessert that feels a little more indulgent than anything you'd normally grab from a machine.

4. Barbecue (BHM) @callmydaddyy

Nothing's worse than having a layover in a city known for food, but not enough time to leave the airport to take advantage of it. If you're passing through Alabama's Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport, you can still get your barbecue fix. Chappie Daddy's BBQ has a vending machine with some southern favorites that will leave you far more satisfied than the bag of cheese curls sitting in the next machine over.

3. White Castle (BOS) @snachwithzach

White Case vending machines are popping up all over the U.S., but how’s the food? We’re trying Cheese Sliders and Chicken Sliders from the one located in Boston’s Logan Airport. Would you try White Castle from a vending machine? #foodtok #fastfood #whitecastle #burger #vendingmachine

♬ original sound - snachwithzach

At Boston Logan International Airport, White Castle debuted a fully automated vending machine, marking the franchise's first New England outlet for its famed sliders. The kiosks deliver burgers and chicken sandwiches to hungry travelers in just minutes—heated directly in the same packaging that you'd find in grocery store freezer sections. Bizarre? Definitely. Tasty? You make the call.

2. Freshly Baked Pizza (CMH)

At John Glenn Columbus International Airport, travelers can order a fresh pizza from a fully automated system developed with Donatos Pizza. The machine handles cooking and serving, producing a hot pizza in minutes. Some airports have tested simpler concepts using brands like California Pizza Kitchen, but the Donatos robot is actually cranking out pies from scratch.

1. Chili Crab (SIN) View this post on Instagram

For our number one, we had to take it overseas to Singapore Changi Airport. It's fairly well known that vending machines in Asia have a long history of pushing the boundaries well beyond the familiar snacks-and-beverages lineup. But this one takes it to a new level, earning the top spot on our list of the most bizarre airport vending machines.

In Singapore, vending machines that serve full meals are not uncommon, but they typically aren't dispensing one of the country's most iconic dishes—chili crab. A rich, saucy seafood staple that's usually reserved for sit-down restaurants, chili crab isn't something you'd expect to find in an airport alongside a bag of barbecue-flavored chips—unless you visit Singapore. Travelers can grab a hot, ready-to-eat version of the national dish, served in minutes from automated smart kiosks.

Chili crab is messy, complex, and usually something you take your time with—not something you grab on the way to a gate. But that's exactly what makes it stand out—and why it earns the top spot on this list.

Why Do Airports Have Unusual Vending Machines?

Airports have always been built around speed and convenience, but they also come with a unique challenge: limited time and unpredictable demand. Travelers might have 10 minutes or two hours before boarding, and that window shapes how food and retail are delivered.

Vending machines solve that problem in a way traditional stores can't. They operate around the clock, require no staffing, and can be placed almost anywhere in a terminal. That flexibility makes them ideal for high-traffic areas where space and time are both limited.

There's also a branding opportunity. Airports see millions of travelers pass through each year, making them a natural testing ground for new concepts. A vending machine that serves fresh pizza or hot bao isn't just convenient—it's memorable. And for brands, that visibility can be just as valuable as the sales themselves.

What Can You Buy From Airport Vending Machines Today?

The range has expanded far beyond chips and drinks. In many airports, vending machines now serve full meals, fresh ingredients, and even branded restaurant items. Some focus on healthier options, like salads and grain bowls stored in refrigerated jars. Others lean into comfort food, offering hot meals like mac and cheese, pizza, or barbecue. There are also machines designed for specific brands, from cupcakes to fast-food-style sliders.

In a few cases, the technology goes even further. Robotic systems can blend smoothies, heat meals, or cook food on demand, creating something closer to a compact kitchen than a traditional vending machine. These machines can fill a real gap for travelers in a hurry, while others feel more like an experience—something you have to try, just because you can.

Are Airport Vending Machines More Expensive Than Stores?

In some cases, yes.

Airports already come with higher prices across the board, whether you’re buying a coffee, a sandwich, or a neck pillow. Vending machines follow that same pattern, often charging a premium for convenience and location.

That said, some of the newer machines are positioned as alternatives to traditional airport dining rather than as snack options. A fresh salad, smoothie, or hot meal from a vending machine can sometimes cost less than a comparable item from a restaurant in the same terminal.

The tradeoff usually comes down to speed versus experience. You might pay a little more than you would outside the airport, but you're also saving time—and in a busy terminal, that can be worth it.

Which Airports Have the Most Unique Vending Machines?

mildlyinteresting

From fresh salads in Chicago to sliders in Boston, unique vending machines are doing far more than filling in the gaps between restaurants. They're reshaping what travelers expect from airport food—faster, flexible and better-tasting options that don't always require a kitchen or a staff.

In the U.S., the pizza-making robot at Columbus, Ohio's John Glenn International Airport is arguably the most unique vending machine in the country. But in Asia, the trend toward automation is even more pronounced. Airports like Singapore Changi and Tokyo's Haneda are known for pushing the boundaries of vending options.

In Japan, travelers can grab raw Kobe beef steak from vending machines on their way out of the terminal to cook at home. More than mere novelty, that offering points to a future where convenience doesn't mean settling.

What ties these machines together is a willingness to experiment. Instead of treating them as a fallback, airports are using them as a way to expand what's possible in a fast-moving, high-demand environment. And if that trend continues, the next time you're rushing to your gate, the most interesting thing you eat might come from behind glass.

If there’s one thing pet parents are going to do, it’s fully lean into the title. Dog mom, cat mom — it’s not just a label, it’s a whole identity. It shows up in how you talk about them, how many accessories, toys, or beds you get them, and how quickly you bring them up in literally any conversation. At a certain point, it just makes sense that your daily routine starts reflecting that same energy, too.

With Mother’s Day coming up, it’s kind of the perfect moment to lean into it even more. The Molly Hatch Stoneware Dog Mom and Cat Mom Mugs at Anthropologie are on sale for $13, down from the usual $18, and they’re a thoughtful pick. Whether you’re picking one up for yourself (no judgment) or grabbing it for a fellow pet mom, it’s something they’ll actually use every day.

Made from glazed stoneware, these 16-ounce capacity mugs have that smooth, slightly glossy finish that's a step up from your average coffee cup. The creamy base is a perfect neutral, while subtle stripe detailing around the rim (and a hint at the base) adds contrast. The illustrations are done in a classic blue ink style that feels vintage, like delftware you’d find in a quaint countryside kitchen. Plus, they’re made for daily use; sturdy, dishwasher safe, and microwave safe, so they won’t end up sitting on a shelf.

From there, each mug has its own personality. The “Dog Mom” version has a slightly more tapered shape and features a mix of recognizable dog types — think a low, long-bodied pup that reads like a corgi, a compact bat-eared bulldog, a taller curly-coated dog, and a classic retriever-style silhouette. They’re not labeled, but you can definitely spot the inspiration.

The “Cat Mom” mug leans more classic with a rounded shape that feels cozy in your hand, and its illustrations focus more on different coat types and poses — fluffy, full-coated like Maine coons and ragdolls, sleek upright silhouettes resembling tabbies and tuxedos, and a mix of lounging and seated positions. It’s less about exact breeds and more about capturing that familiar “that looks like my pet” feeling, which makes both versions feel a little more personal.

Pet moms in the reviews section dubbed this “cute” and “adorable” pick as their “new favorite mug.” One shopper wrote, “This mug is super solid and heavy, with a wide base. You’d have to try hard to knock this over!”

You Won’t Guess Which Ship Is Dominating Cruise Shopping This Year

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 4:10am

Wave Season 2026 has officially wrapped, and the latest shopping data from Cruise Critic reveals a surprising "oldie but goodie" as a top contender among American travelers.

While the industry often focuses on shiny new megaships, Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas emerged as the most-searched vessel for the line, outperforming even the record-breaking Icon of the Seas in sheer interest. This trend suggests that while "hype" drives headlines, established favorites with proven track records remain the "it list" for shoppers looking to compare ships and read reviews before zeroing in on their next trip.

Overall, Royal Caribbean secured the top spot for cruise bookings and interest, a position it holds alongside other industry giants like Norwegian Cruise Line and Princess Cruises.

According to Cruise Critic, these rankings are a direct "snapshot into the current 'it list'" of what is generating the most buzz. The data, collected from January 1 through March 31, reflects the behavior of millions of readers who use the platform to explore itineraries and added perks during the industry's busiest booking window.

The report notes that the dominance of the top seven lines isn't necessarily a shock, as they "represent the largest mainstream cruise lines that most people are familiar with." However, what is more telling is the breakthrough of brands like Oceania, Virgin Voyages and Cunard into the top 10.

These lines share a common thread in that they are geared mostly toward adults, signaling a growing appetite for sophisticated, kid-free environments.

Despite the popularity of these big names, experts remind travelers that being one of the "popular kids of Wave Season" doesn't automatically make a ship the right choice for everyone.

The decision ultimately comes down to your travel style, budget and where you actually want to go. For those still in the planning stages, this data serves as a fascinating look at the ships and cruise lines garnering the most research and attention right now, providing a roadmap for what to expect on the high seas in 2026.

Late Country Legend's Massive Party Anthem Somehow Never Made It To No. 1

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 3:38am

Toby Keith had a plethora of No. 1 hits, but a beloved 2011 banger wasn't one of them.

Keith's fan-favorite track "Red Solo Cup" might be one of the most celebrated and iconic songs from his entire catalog, but somehow, it never reached the top of the country charts.

Released as a single off his 2011 album Clancy's Tavern, the playful party anthem never even cracked the top five on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart, instead peaking at the No. 9 spot in February 2012.

Keith, who had 20 other songs hit No. 1 during his massively successful country career, knew that "Red Solo Cup" may not be the most profound song he ever recorded, but even he couldn't deny the track's fun, infectious quality.

"It is the stupidest song I ever heard in my life, but it's so stupid it's good," Keith told The Boot back in 2014, comparing the song to a "squirrel loose in a church house."

"We can play it in an office and then play five other songs, give it an hour, walk out, and you'd hear the receptionist singing it," he said. "It's like nursery rhyme stupid."

Unlike most of his other radio hits, Keith actually didn't "Red Solo Cup." The utterly unserious song was written by two sets of brothers, Jim and Brett Beavers and Brett and Brad Warren — who are also acutely aware of how silly the song is.

"It's absolutely ridiculous," Jim Beavers told The Boot. "I can also say, having been a writer for 10 years and written hundreds of songs, I don't know a song that more people bring up in more instances than this song about a red solo cup. I don't know why, it hits something somewhere. It is the craziest, weirdest song you've ever heard."

Toby Keith's Other No. 1 Hits

"Red Solo Cup" may have never made it to No. 1, but Keith had plenty of other songs that reached the top of the charts. Here are all 20 of Keith's No. 1 hits on Billboard‘s Hot Country Songs chart:

  1. "How Do You Like Me Now?!"
  2. "Beer For My Horses" (duet with Willie Nelson)
  3. "You Shouldn't Kiss Me Like This"
  4. "My List"
  5. "Who's Your Daddy?"
  6. "I Wanna Talk About Me"
  7. "I Love This Bar"
  8. "American Soldier"
  9. "Should've Been a Cowboy"
  10. "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)"
  11. "As Good As I Once Was"
  12. "I'm Just Talkin' About Tonight"
  13. "God Love Her"
  14. "She Never Cried in Front of Me"
  15. "Love Me If You Can"
  16. "Whiskey Girl"
  17. "Who's That Man"

Quote of the Day: Psychologist William James on How Believing in Life Determines Your Destiny

Fri, 04/24/2026 - 2:45am

If you've ever taken a psychology class, you've probably heard the name William James. Born in New York City in 1842, James was an American psychologist and philosopher who is widely regarded as the father of American psychology. In fact, during his 35-year tenure at Harvard University, he was the first educator to teach a psychology course in the United States. He passed away on Aug. 26, 1910, and over a century later, his work is still studied around the world and many believe he laid the foundation for how we understand the human mind.

James developed a school of thought known as functionalism, which works to understand not the science of our brains, but why our minds work the way they do—and how those thoughts and feelings impact the way we navigate daily life. In 1890, he released his book, The Principles of Psychology, which took 12 years to complete and is still considered one of the most important books in the history of the field. James also developed the concept of pragmatism, which considers the truth of an idea based on its practical consequences. For example, if believing that life will get better gives you the motivation to keep going—and then that motivation leads to real change—then that belief has value precisely because it works.

But what makes James' work so powerful is his personal story. Before he became one of the most famous psychologists in the country, James went through one of the darkest periods of his life. After earning his medical degree from Harvard in 1869, he fell into a deep depression—suffering from panic attacks, suicidal thoughts and a constant feeling that his life was meaningless and nothing he did would ever matter.

That all changed in April 1870, when he started reading works from French philosopher Charles Renouvier. "My first act of free will shall be to believe in free will," James wrote in his diary. That single choice—a decision to simply believe—pulled him out of the darkness and became the foundation for everything he did after. And that's why William James is today's quote of the day.

Quote of the Day by William James

Parade/CanvaPro

"Be not afraid of life. Believe that life is worth living, and your belief will help create the fact."

This quote comes from James' essay "Is Life Worth Living?" It was originally delivered as a lecture at Harvard University on April 15, 1895, and was later published as part of his 1897 collection, The Will to Believe and Other Essays in Popular Philosophy. In this essay, he explores whether life has meaning and argues that our attitude toward life actively shapes the way we experience it. This is the core theme of James' life work.

Deeper Meaning of James' Quote—Belief Determines Your Destiny

To really understand this quote, you have to remember what James went through before he wrote it. He was in a deep depression when he came to the realization that life actually does have meaning—and it changed his forever. What he's saying is that, the things we believe about our lives actually shape what our lives become.

In other words, if you wake up every day believing that good things are coming, you're naturally going to take more chances, be open to new opportunities and stay positive. But if you wake up believing that nothing will ever work out, you'll probably stop trying to improve your life—and then life doesn't work out the way you'd hoped it would. He's saying that our beliefs don't just impact our day-to-day lives; they shape our future.

But I also love the first line in this quote: "Be not afraid of life." James isn't just telling you to think positive. He's also talking to those of us who are genuinely stuck because we're scared—scared that life won't get better and scared that our lives mean nothing. His answer isn't to fake happiness or pretend everything is fine. It's about making a choice to believe, even when it's insanely difficult. It's about being brave—and it's the first step in turning your life around.
