If you’ve been anywhere near a Trader Joe’s lately, you already know that Spring Fever isn’t just happening in the food aisles. The pastel tote bags that quietly dropped this week have turned stores into a full-on frenzy, with shoppers hunting them down like it’s a competitive sport. It’s that same blink-and-it’s-gone urgency that makes this month’s lineup especially worth paying attention to, because between the limited-time bakery items, returning favorites and a few sleeper hits, there’s a very real chance your must-have item won’t be there next time you swing by (sadly, but it's the TJ way).
As soon as the weather starts to shift, so do the shelves at Trader's, and suddenly the store becomes a rotating lineup of limited-time sweets, snackable upgrades and bakery finds that feel just indulgent enough to justify tossing “just one more thing” into your cart (hey, we've all been there). April’s drop leans heavily into that energy, with playful candies for Easter and beyond, nostalgic desserts, and a few savory standouts that make weeknight meals feel far less like a chore. Because who wants to cook when it's absolutely gorgeous out?
From rich, chocolatey brioche to whimsical gummy candies and a garlic butter snack mix that feels destined for repeat purchases (or at least stockpiling), these are the 11 best April Trader Joe’s finds shoppers are grabbing right now. And you should too—before they disappear!

This European Country Was Just Named the Safest Destination for Solo Female Travelers in 2026—and It Isn't Switzerland
For years, countries like Iceland and Switzerland have dominated conversations around safe travel, especially for women going it alone. So when Estonia quietly took the spotlight as one of the safest destinations for solo female travelers in 2026, it felt both surprising and, in some ways, overdue.
According to a February 2026 survey conducted by Talker Research for Road Scholar, Estonia’s ranking reflects a combination of low crime rates, strong infrastructure, and an overall sense of ease that travelers feel when navigating the country alone. Safety today is about how a place feels when you step into it alone, whether that is walking back to your hotel at night or figuring out public transportation without stress.
What makes Estonia stand out is that it delivers both measurable safety and emotional comfort. Travelers consistently report feeling secure walking alone, even after dark, with one solo traveler noting that wandering through cities like Tallinn and Tartu felt “safe… more than in big cities” elsewhere in Europe.
How Safety Rankings Like This Are Actually DeterminedIt is easy to assume that a title like “safest destination” is based on crime rates alone. But the methodology behind these rankings is far more layered and, frankly, more human. Recent travel safety indexes and reports draw from a mix of data points, including global peace rankings, local safety statistics, infrastructure quality, and real experiences from solo female travelers themselves. These rankings increasingly weigh how safe women feel, not just what numbers suggest.
Some indexes even incorporate traveler-submitted reviews and scores, evaluating factors like walking alone at night, interactions with locals, and general ease of navigating daily life. That shift reflects a broader evolution in travel. A destination can have low crime rates and still feel intimidating.
Things to Do in Estonia That Make It Ideal for Solo TravelersEstonia works beautifully for solo travel because it offers variety without overwhelm. Whether you want culture, nature, or simply a place to slow down, it all feels accessible and safe to explore on your own terms. Instead of overloading your itinerary, this is the kind of destination where you can follow your curiosity and still feel grounded.
Here are some of the best experiences that make Estonia especially appealing for solo travelers:
- Wander Tallinn’s Old Town: Lose yourself in cobblestone streets, medieval towers, and hidden courtyards. The area is compact, walkable, and filled with cafés and viewpoints, making it ideal for unstructured exploring.
- Visit Lahemaa National Park: Just outside the city, this park offers peaceful bog walks, coastal trails, and quiet forests. It is a perfect escape if you want solitude without feeling isolated.
- Take a trip to Saaremaa Island: Known for its windmills and calm landscapes, this island feels like stepping into a slower version of Europe. It is especially appealing for travelers seeking space and quiet reflection.
- Spend time in Tartu’s café scene: Estonia’s university town is full of cozy cafés and creative energy. It is the kind of place where sitting alone feels natural, not awkward.
- Experience Estonia’s digital ease: From public transportation to Wi-Fi access, the country’s tech-forward systems make navigating as a solo traveler incredibly smooth and stress-free.
- Enjoy coastal walks along the Baltic Sea: Estonia’s coastline offers wide open views and a sense of calm that feels grounding, especially when traveling alone.

What Solo Female Travelers Should Still Keep in MindNo destination is perfect, and Estonia is no exception. While it consistently ranks as one of the safest countries for solo female travelers, basic awareness still matters. Pickpocketing can occasionally occur in crowded areas, and transit hubs like Tallinn’s train and bus stations require the usual vigilance.
Travelers should also respect local customs, such as modest behavior in churches and cultural sites, and be aware that rural areas may have less English signage or Wi-Fi coverage. Public transportation is generally safe and efficient, but keeping an eye on belongings and planning routes in advance is still recommended.
Streets are well-lit, local crime rates are low, and law enforcement is approachable. Solo travelers can explore confidently, knowing that awareness, rather than anxiety, is enough to stay safe.

♬ original sound - Nylah Akua Final Thoughts: Why Estonia Is More Than Just “Safe”Safety might be what gets Estonia onto the list, but it is not what makes it memorable. What makes Estonia special is how that safety translates into freedom. Freedom to wander without a plan. Freedom to sit alone without feeling out of place. Freedom to experience a destination fully, without the constant background noise of worry.

7 Things To Know Before You Get Veneers, According to a Cosmetic Dentist
If you've looked at red carpet photos in the past few years, you've probably come across an image that's made you wonder, "Wait—did [insert celebrity here] always look like that?" Sometimes, the reason celebrities look so different isn't due to culprits like a facelift, brow lift or blepharoplasty (though it's also very possible). In fact, it isn't plastic surgery at all—oftentimes, it's veneers.
Nowadays, it seems like it's not enough to just straighten your smile with braces, Invisalign and/or the retainer you wish you were better about wearing every night. Veneers have become increasingly popular, as those in and outside of Hollywood have traded in their unique smiles for flashy, uniform pearly whites.
Some praise veneers for correcting dental issues and boosting the confidence people may have about their teeth. Due to the price of the procedure, they have certainly become a highly coveted status symbol, with veneers ranging from $800 to $3,000 per tooth, according to Care Credit. However, this isn't without backlash. Others caution against getting an irreversible dental procedure, especially when it's to correct a minor imperfection. A unique smile can be part of individual beauty, and veneers can often look overly fake, giving an "uncanny valley" effect.
Parade spoke with Dr. Ilon Choai to break down everything you need to know before getting veneers. Dr. Choai is a premier cosmetic dentist based in Miami and the founder of the popular TikTok toothpaste brand, NOBS. He shares what you need to know before getting veneers, alternative dental remedies and the #1 mistake he sees people make when they get this dental procedure.

What Are Veneers?alex-mit/Getty Images
"Veneers are ultra-thin restorations, usually made of porcelain, chemically bonded to the front of your teeth," Dr. Choai tells Parade. "All veneers are permanent, and should last anywhere from 10 to 20 years, sometimes longer if cared for properly."
With their increase in popularity, however, there are many myths surrounding veneers.
"Unfortunately, the word 'veneer' has become synonymous with any kind of cosmetic work," he shares. As he states, many confuse them with crowns, which, unlike veneers, "cover the tooth's full surface, similar to a helmet."
Who Are Veneers For?So, with that common misconception, who are veneers even for?
"Assuming a patient has a stable oral environment, anyone who wants to correct the color, size or shape of their teeth can get veneers. We often run into a snag despite the patient's wishes," Dr. Chaoi explains.
In regard to the "snags" he's referring to, the cosmetic dentist shares that he has turned people down for veneers for various common reasons.
"Before I place veneers on anyone, I look at how they breathe, how they bite, whether they grind at night and whether their gums are stable," he says. "I've turned down veneer cases that looked like obvious candidates on paper because something underneath wasn't right."
For instance, a patient with an untreated grinding problem is guaranteed to wind up cracking or debinding the restorations.
"My job is to solve the right problem," he states. "Many times we can solve those root problems and do veneers in a later phase of treatment."
When you ignore problems like this, veneers will look unnatural.
"The best veneer cases I do are the ones where nobody can tell you had anything done... That's what happens when the cosmetic work respects the biology underneath it. When it doesn't, your teeth walk into the room before you do," he notes.

4 Alternatives to Veneers, According to a Dentist"I'm probably not what you expect from a cosmetic dentist in Miami Beach, because my first move is almost never veneers," Dr. Choai tells Parade. "In fact, I often talk patients out of it despite being highly trained in the procedure. There are almost always more conservative options worth considering first."
Here are alternatives he recommends based on the dental issue:
1. WhiteningA tell-tale sign of veneers are those pearly white chompers. But if all you need is a whiter smile, Dr. Choai says veneers might not be what you need.
"If color is the only issue, professional whitening is where I start," he states. "Enamel is biologically valuable. Once it's gone, it's gone. So I protect it whenever I can."
2. OrthodonticsDr. Choai recommends orthodontics (such as braces, Invisalign, etc.) when alignment is the issue.
"Orthodontics addresses the structure [of the teeth] instead of masking it," he shares. "A well-aligned tooth is more stable long-term and often looks better without any additional work."
3. Composite bondingIf you've ever had a tooth chip or you had a stubborn gap you wanted fixed without braces, you probably know what composite or dental bonding is. As the Cleveland Clinic reported, dental bonding is a cosmetic procedure where a "tooth-colored composite resin material" is put on top of your existing tooth.
"Composite bonding is a useful tool, especially in younger patients," Dr. Choai explains. "You can accomplish a lot aesthetically with minimal reduction, and it preserves options for the future. Keep in mind that the material changes over time. It loses its shine very easily, and can absorb stains, whereas porcelain is very stable over time."
4. Addressing non-cosmetic foundation for damage"Sometimes, the issue isn't cosmetic at all," Dr. Choai states. "Significant wear, repeated chipping and flattening are often signs of clenching, grinding or restricted airway patterns."
So instead of jumping straight to veneers, he suggests dealing with the root cause of issues, especially if it has nothing to do with cosmetics.
"Address the force first," he says. "Otherwise, you're refinishing a house with a foundation problem."
Related: Dentists Are Begging You to Stop Making This Super Common Brushing Mistake
The #1 Mistake People Make When Getting VeneersAccording to Dr. Chaoi, the biggest, most common mistake he sees people make with veneers is getting the procedure abroad to try to save money.
"Not to say there is an issue with international dentists. Many are trained and proficient at complex procedures," he clarifies.
The issue comes from falling prey to good marketing or Google SEO from an unskilled provider. Then, you can leave with what Dr. Choai calls "piano keys," or abrasive, overly white, unnatural-looking teeth.
"It gets even stickier because many stateside dentists might refer you back to the original dentist," he says.
7 Things To Know Before Getting Veneers, According to a Cosmetic Dentist1. Enamel removal before the procedure should be minimalThanks to the online popularity of veneers, there are a lot of myths. One is that your natural chompers are going to look like shark teeth because of how much the dentist has to shave down to fit veneers on top beforehand. That's not what real veneers should look like (odds are these people are getting crowns, per Smile Culture). That's why Dr. Choai says that minimal enamel—the hardest outer part of your tooth—removal is all you should need.
"Less removal [before the veneer procedure] means more tooth structure is retained, offering more options if you ever need to revise the work down the road," he states.
If there isn't "a clear, clinical reason" for heavy prep work, your dentist is doing you dirty.
2. Your bite will determine how long your veneers last"Cosmetic restorations placed into a dysfunctional bite are under constant stress. Bite evaluation is the foundation of the whole case," Dr. Choai says.
This means that if you have a massive overbite or are a night grinder, veneers aren't going to last long in your mouth.
3. Grinding is a no-noSpeaking of...
"Veneers are durable, but they're not indestructible," Dr. Choai warns.
If you grind your teeth at night, then protection is an absolute must (such as a night guard). He calls grinding (bruxism) "the equivalent of doing donuts in the parking lot and expecting your tires to last."
4. Gum health is non-negotiable"Gum health frames the entire smile," Dr. Choai states. "Inflamed or receding gums compromise both the aesthetics and the longevity of the result. I won't start cosmetic work on unstable tissue."
5. Your breathing affects your teeth"Chronic mouth breathing alters saliva quality, increases oral inflammation and contributes to enamel breakdown over time," Dr. Choai shares. "This one surprises people. But in my practice, it comes off constantly."
6. Expect to get your veneers redoneJust like teeth, veneers can get chipped or become damaged from other trauma. But even outside of that, they start to look outdated after 20 years of use. This isn't due to the veneers themselves, but because of changes in your mouth.
"As we age, our lips change position, and receding gums can highlight the borders of veneers," the cosmetic dentist tells Parade. "That's not to say that they can't last longer and look good, it's just a possibility to keep in mind."
If you're under 40, know that you'll have to get them redone a few times throughout your life.
7. The most striking transformations aren’t always the most successful"I've seen cases that looked extraordinary in the first year and looked off by year five," Dr. Choai concludes. "Conservative, biologically respectful design tends to age with you rather than against you. Subtlety, done well, is its own kind of luxury."

This New Cruise Line Will Let You Live at Sea With Your Pets—for Less Than the Cost of a House
For most of us, the dream of selling everything and living on a cruise ship hits one major, furry roadblock: what happens to the dog? Traditionally, if you wanted to sail with a pet, your options were limited to a handful of high-stress kennels or very specific (and very expensive) transatlantic crossings. ButFabled Voyages, a new U.S.-based residential cruise line, is looking to disrupt the "living at sea" market by treating pets like family, not cargo.
Starting March 30, 2026, the company will begin accepting deposits for its new residential program, which allows residents to bring up to two cats or dogs per cabin. Unlike standard vacation cruises, Fabled Voyages is designed for long-term residency—targeting retirees and remote workers who want to trade their zip code for a global itinerary without the heartbreak of leaving their pets behind.
Related: Royal Caribbean Just Announced a New 'Chief Dog Officer'—And She's Adorable
View this post on InstagramThe perks for four-legged residents are surprisingly robust. The "Pets Onboard" program includes:
- Designated "Pet Zones": Integrated open-air walking areas and pet-friendly lounges.
- Onboard Services: Planned access to veterinary support, professional grooming, and enhanced sanitation.
- Cabin Freedom: Pets live in-residence with their owners (subject to health and behavior requirements).
"Pets are family for many of our future residents," Madison Miller, Founder and CEO of Fabled Voyages, said in the announcement. "Our goal is not to build a cruise centered around pets. It is to remove unnecessary limitations that prevent people from embracing long-term exploration."

The cost of this floating lifestyle is also turning heads. Five-year ownership plans start at $100,000, which—in many parts of the country—is significantly less than a down payment on a stationary home. Monthly fees range from $5,850 to $6,600, covering everything from high-speed Wi-Fi and room service to housekeeping and medical care.
The "catch"? Fabled Voyages is currently in the vessel-selection phase, looking for a ship between 70,000 and 120,000 gross tons. While the "no-ship-yet" factor might give some pause, the buzz among pet owners is undeniable.
Until then, your options for taking a pet aboard a ship remain incredibly limited. Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 is currently the only major vessel at sea accepting dogs and cats. However, there is a catch for those looking for everyday companionship: on the QM2, pets are housed in a dedicated, air-conditioned kennel area on Deck 12 and are strictly forbidden from guest cabins. Furthermore, as of January 2026, kennel rates have increased to $1,300 for a small kennel and $1,500 for a large kennel per crossing, with spots often selling out two years in advance.
But if long-term "ship-style retirement" is your goal, the choice between your bucket list and your best friend might finally be a thing of the past. If Fabled Voyages can secure its vessel, it won't just be a cruise—it will be the first true home at sea where your dog is a resident, not a guest.
Iconic 1981 Genre-Bending Song Became a No. 1 Hit 45 Years Ago Today
On this day in 1981, Blondie made music history with their hit song "Rapture."
The genre-bending track from punk-rock band soared to the top of the BillboardHot 100 on March 28, 1981, where it remained for two consecutive weeks. It was the first No. 1 single in the U.S. to feature rap vocals.
"Rapture" was released in January 1981 as the second and final single from Blondie's fifth studio album Autoamerican, which came out in November 1980. Written by band members Debbie Harry and Chris Stein, it became a groundbreaking track, combining a number of genres like new wave, hip-hop, disco and rap.
View this post on InstagramThe song was also accompanied by a now-iconic music video, which was filmed in the East Village in Manhattan in just one take. Directed by Keith MacMillan, the video featured cameos from graffiti artists Lee Quiñones and Jean-Michel Basquiat, as well as Bronx-based hip-hop artist Fab 5 Freddy (Fred Brathwaite.)
"One of the things that strikes me about ‘Rapture’ is that it really was the first in many ways,” Harry told the New York Post in 2021. "It’s funny because at the beginning, I didn’t like [the video] so much—I was probably thinking in a more grandiose kind of style, to get the true atmosphere of the Lower East Side where the train yards are and create something truly wild … But now, I like it."
Just one day before it officially became a No. 1 hit, "Rapture" was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), meaning it sold more than 500,000 copies.
"Rapture" was one of Blondie's four career No. 1 hits on the Hot 100, along with 1980's "Call Me," which had a 6-week reign, plus 1981's "The Tide Is High" and 1979's "Heart of Glass."

1981 Trailblazing Classic Was a No. 1 Hit Song 45 Years Ago Today
Nearly five decades ago, Fab 5 Freddy told Debbie Harrythat "everybody's fly," and it led not just to Blondie topping the Hot 100 for the fourth time, but the groundbreaking punk band also made history. And that left everyone in a state of rapture.
New York City in the 1970s was the forefront of two genres that would have a major impact on the world: punk and hip-hop. A party held on August 11, 1973, at 1520 Sedwick Avenue in the Bronx is widely considered where all the elements came together to make hip-hop. Less than a year later, on March 30, 1974, the Ramonesplayed their first gig; about six months later, Blondie played their first show under their name at CBGB's.
So, one could consider rap and punk to be siblings, and they teamed up on "Rapture," the second single from Blondie's fifth album, Autoamerican. Released at the start of the year, the song eventually reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on March 28, 1981, becoming the first No. 1 song in the United States to feature rap vocals.
"Rapture" combines elements of new wave, disco, and hip-hop, most notably the section where Debbie Harry tries her hand at rapping. "Fab 5 Freddy told me everybody's fly / DJ spinnin', I said, "My, my" / [Grandmaster] Flash is fast, Flash is cool / François c'est pas, flashé no deux," she raps in the first section.
Harry closes out the song by rapping "And you hip-hop, and you don't stop / Just blast off, sure shot / 'Cause the man from Mars stopped eatin' cars / And eatin' bars, and now he only eats guitars, get up."
The verses are a bit rudimentary and silly, but they were sincere. Both Harry and Blondie's guitarist, Chris Stein, were early fans of rap. They befriended hip-hop pioneer Fab 5 Freddy, who took the punkers to their first rap show in 1978. "Chris and I had heard about the rap scene up there, but we hadn't seen anything up close," said Debbie, per AXS. "We wanted to experience it live."
"I was also looking at what was going on with the new wave and the punk scene, which was really shaking up, like, you know, what the rock and roll scene had been," Fab 5 Freddy told NPRwhen discussing his 2026 memoir, Everybody's Fly. "And these bands, like, the Sex Pistols, The Clash, the Ramones, Blondie - it was just this energy that was shaking it up. And so when I did connect with these people, it was incredible."

Blondie made a video for "Rapture," which also holds the distinction of being the first "rap" video to air on MTV. The video features Fab 5 Freddy and artists Lee Quiñones and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
"One of the things that strikes me about 'Rapture' is that it really was the first in many ways," Harry told the New York Post in 2021. "It's funny because at the beginning, I didn't like [the video] so much — I was probably thinking in a more grandiose kind of style, to get the true atmosphere of the Lower East Side where the train yards are and create something truly wild … But now, I like it."
Blondie's "Rapture" further introduced hip-hop to a wider, mainstream audience. A year before "Rapture" went to No. 1, Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight" became the first rap hit on the Hot 100, reaching No. 36, per Billboard.
In 1986, Run-D.M.C.'s collab with Aerosmith, "Walk This Way," broke the Top 10. In 1990, Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby" became the first purely rap song to go to No. 1. A year later, P.M. Dawn's "Set Adrift on Memory Bliss" became the first No. 1 rap song by a Black artist.

1975 No. 1 Funk Hit, Ranked Among ‘Top Songs of the ‘70s,’ Remains a Classic Anthem 50 Years Later
In the summer of 1975, War released a Top 10 hit with “Low Rider.” The song from the Los Angeles-based band’s album, Why Can’t We Be Friends, incorporated funk rock, jazz, blues, soul, and Latin styles with deep vocals by Charles Miller and an irresistible harmonica riff played by Lee Oskar.
"Low Rider” hit No. 1 on Billboard’s R&B singles chart on Nov. 22, 1975. The song also peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 on November 29, 1975, and remained on the chart for a total 15 weeks.
Describing the song as a “deep-grooved celebration of the Chicano-born tradition of hydraulically altered classic cars,” in 2025 Ultimate Classic Rock ranked “Low Rider" as one of the top ‘70s songs of all time.
More than 50 years after its release, “Low Rider” remains the ultimate anthem for cruising and ‘70s custom car culture.
In an interview with The Guardian, War bandmate Lonnie Jordan explained how the multi-ethnic band came up with the song that would go on to be one of their biggest hits. It started with a typical jam session.
“We’d just jam for ages and record everything,” he recalled. “'Low Rider' came along in the middle of maybe an hour and a half of playing: we took a piece that became the song. Charles Miller sang the lead vocal. He walked into the studio, sat down, had a bottle of tequila, salt and a lemon, listened to the track and started singing in a low voice.”
Jordan noted that at the time, the War bandmates had been hanging around lowrider car clubs in Los Angeles. “Charles had just bought a 1952 Chevrolet that was low and looked mean, so his mind was on lowriding,” he explained. “We all developed the rest of the lyrics. The ‘low rider drives a little slower; line was a reference to drivers saving gas, which was very expensive then because of the oil crisis.”

In an interview with Song Exploder, producer Jerry Goldstein recalled telling Miller, “You got that lowrider out there. And why don’t we write a song about you, about lowriders? And he went out on the mic, and we wrote down everything that we wanted to write about lowriders, and the lowrider vibe, and the lowrider culture.”
“This is the way we wrote,” he explained. “We have tracks and ideas. And then we would just make records out of 'em. And a lot of times they were written in the studio. … I never re-recorded any of this stuff. I always made the original jam work. You know, it’s more organic that way. And that's why it's so raw.”
Once “Low Rider” was released, the song became an anthem for lowriders.
“We gave cassettes to the lowriders and they all played it in their cars,” Jordan told The Guardian. “As soon as it got played on the radio, the Latin community sent it up the charts, then off it rocketed and nothing was going to stop it.”
Pop culture classic“Low Rider” also earned a place in pop culture history with a cameo in the iconic 1976 Cheech & Chong movie Up in Smoke and other films. More than 25 years after its release, the War hit also served as the opening theme song for the ABCsitcomThe George Lopez Show.
At the 2007 Alma Awards, Lopez referred to “Low Rider” as the “Chicano National anthem” as he introduced War to the stage.

1969 Timeless Classic Hit No. 1 57 Years Ago Today
A 1969 country hit that reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart 57 years ago today wasn’t originally a country song at all—but in the hands of Sonny James, it became something entirely new.
James scored his version of "Only the Lonely" to the top of the country charts in 1969, adding another milestone to one of the most dominant runs in country music history. The song also reached No. 92 on the Billboard Hot 100, showing its crossover appeal even in a crowded musical landscape.
By that point, James—often called the “Southern Gentleman”—was in the middle of an extraordinary streak. Between 1967 and 1971, he racked up 16 consecutive No. 1 hits on the Billboard country chart, a record that still stands as one of the genre’s most remarkable achievements. His take on "Only the Lonely" fit perfectly into that run, blending smooth vocals with a polished, radio-friendly arrangement.
Backing him on the track were his longtime vocal group, The Southern Gentlemen, whose tight harmonies became a defining part of his sound during this era. Their smooth, layered vocals helped give the recording its polished feel and played a key role in many of his No. 1 hits during that historic run.

The song itself had already made history nearly a decade earlier. First recorded by Roy Orbison in 1960, "Only the Lonely" helped define his signature sound, pairing emotional vulnerability with a soaring vocal performance. It became his first major hit, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 in the United Kingdom, and later earned a place in the Grammy Hall of Fame.
When James recorded the track in 1969, he didn’t try to replicate Orbison’s dramatic delivery. Instead, he softened the edges, leaning into the song’s melancholy while giving it a steady, country-pop feel that resonated with his audience. That approach turned a dramatic pop ballad into a chart-topping country hit.
Related: 1974 Conway Twitty Classic Hit No. 1 52 Years Ago Today
The success of "Only the Lonely" also reflected a broader trend at the time, as country artists found new life in songs that had previously been hits in other genres. James was especially skilled at this, recording several covers that went on to top the country charts during his peak years.
With 26 No. 1 country hits over his career and a five-year stretch of near-total chart dominance, Sonny James remains one of the most consistent hitmakers the genre has ever seen. And his 1969 version of "Only the Lonely" stands as a perfect example of how a great song can evolve—crossing genres, generations and audiences while still striking the same emotional chord.
Hotels and Rentals Are Out— House Swapping Is In and Honestly I Might Be Convinced to Try it
For decades we’ve accepted hotels or short‑term rentals as the default way to find a place to sleep on vacation. But lately, travelers are literally swapping lives with one another, trading homes with total strangers in distant cities, towns, and even countries. Inspired by the romantic comedyThe Holiday and powered by digital platforms, this is a reinterpretation of travel itself.
At its simplest, house swapping means you stay in someone else’s home while they stay in yours, either at the same time or non‑simultaneously. In West Hartford, Connecticut, We-Ha reports Annie‑Karine Lamoureux and her family have completed 26 home swaps through HomeExchange. Lamoureux told local media that this method has fundamentally changed how her family travels. “I don’t think I could afford to travel as much as I do if I didn’t travel that way,” she said. “Usually I pay for my airfare with credit card points. I do HomeExchange, and essentially all I have to pay once I’m there is for food and activities.”
Don't miss a beat—subscribe now for trending travel updates and destination guides.
How House Swapping Actually Works (And Why It’s Not As Wild As It Sounds)House swapping can feel a bit like online dating. You create a profile, list your home, browse others, send messages, and you plan a swap. Communication is key and virtually every experienced home swapper stresses the importance of chatting early and often to go over house rules, expectations, and neighborhood tips.
There are several variations:
- Traditional swaps, where both homes are used at the same time.
- Non‑simultaneous swaps, where one home stays open until it’s used later, often leveraged by people with multiple properties.
- Points‑based systems, where stays are arranged using credits earned from hosting.
Platforms range from free community forums to paid services with added insurance and support. As one seasoned home swapper shared, “If you want a house, go to Airbnb; if you want a home, do a home exchange.”
Practical logistics vary. Many hosts leave keys in a lockbox or meet briefly before the swap. I’ve learned through community discussions on Reddit that good home manuals (detailing everything from Wi‑Fi passwords to fuse box locations) can make all the difference.

Real Voices From the Home Swap CommunityThe travel world is filled with house swap stories that brim with the kind of warmth you don’t get from hotel lobbies.
Take this Home Exchange testimony from Marilyn, who has been swapping homes for decades, and told fellow travelers that it “has enabled me to live a life others can only dream of.” She shared memories that feel like short stories all through house swaps.

Another couple, Dave and Chauna, describe their exchange in Brittany, France as living like locals, from slow breakfasts in the garden to sea breezes on the coastal paths.
And then there’s the younger traveler who booked her swap through social media, per the New York Post. Though a bit nervous at first, she found that her Parisian host left thoughtful recommendations and gifts that made the trip unforgettable, an insider’s stay she wouldn’t have had otherwise.
From childhood Lego tables delighting visiting children to friendships that last long after the keys are handed back, these exchanges have a texture that hotel stays rarely achieve.

♬ original sound - Betsy Hicks-Russ How Much You Could Actually SaveSavings are one of the biggest reasons people try house swapping. Some platforms estimate members can save thousands of dollars on lodging. For instance, typical seven‑night hotel costs easily exceed what people would pay for an exchange site membership, and with swaps you often avoid extra nightly fees altogether.
I recently talked to a friend who compared typical summer hotel rates, often well over $200 per night, to swapping with another traveler through a home exchange. Not having to shell out for accommodation allowed her to splurge a bit more on local dining and experiences. That extra flexibility changes a trip in a powerful way.
And it’s not just financial. One lifelong traveling couple estimates they’ve saved tens of thousands of dollars using home swaps, freeing them to visit over 20 destinations with far less stress on their budget.

Is House Swapping Right For You?Let’s be honest: house swapping isn’t for everyone. It requires trust, communication, and a bit of vulnerability. There are risks like miscommunications, differing cleanliness standards, and yes, or the occasional awkward visit from someone sleeping in your bed. But for many travelers, those risks are part of the adventure.
In a travel world that too often feels transactional, house swapping brings back something old‑fashioned and beautiful: trust between strangers, curiosity about the world, and genuine local connection. Whether you’re a budget‑conscious nomad or someone eager to break away from the cookie‑cutter holiday, this is one trend worth exploring.
3 Travel Credit Cards Under $100 That Beat the $895 Giants, According to The Motley Fool
This is the "aha!" moment for anyone currently staring at a $695 or $895 renewal notice and wondering if those digital entertainment credits and airport lounge snacks are actually worth the steep price of admission. If you’re mired in the "premium card" trap—constantly trying to justify a fee that costs as much as a round-trip ticket to Europe—a recent explainer from The Motley Fool is the reality check we all needed.
According to personal finance expert Joel O'Leary, the luxury travel card market has officially gotten out of hand. While the American Express Platinum Card now commands a staggering $895 annual fee, O'Leary argues that for the everyday traveler, the mental energy required to "earn back" that fee often outweighs the perks. Instead, he points to a trio of "under $100" power players that deliver massive welcome offers and solid travel protections without the triple-digit stress.
Related: The Top No-Fee Travel Credit Card of 2026, According to the Motley Fool
View this post on InstagramLeading the pack is the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card. At a $95 annual fee, it’s currently making waves with a limited-time offer that includes 75,000 bonus miles plus a $250 credit for Capital One Travel. For those of us who don’t want to track "rotating categories," its unlimited 2X miles on every purchase is a dream. It even throws in a credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck, a perk usually reserved for those $400+ "prestige" cards.
If your travel style is more about the journey (and the dinner once you land), the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card remains a gold standard for a reason. Also priced at $95, it rewards the way we actually live—offering 3X points on dining and 5X on travel booked through their portal. It’s a favorite for the "points-curious" because of its flexibility; you can transfer points to over a dozen airline and hotel partners or get a 25% value boost by booking direct through Chase. Plus, the trip cancellation and auto rental insurance provide that "safety net" feeling for a fraction of the cost of a luxury card.
Related: Disney Just Dropped a New $149 Credit Card—And It’s Built for Superfans
Finally, for the traveler who prefers to book direct with airlines and hotels, the Wells Fargo Autograph Journey Card is the sleeper hit of 2026. For a $95 fee, it offers a jaw-dropping 5X points on hotels and 4X on airlines. It even includes a $50 annual airline credit, which effectively cuts the annual fee in half. Toss in up to $1,000 in cellphone protection, and you have a card that works hard for people who travel once or twice a year, not just the "every week" frequent flyer crowd.
Ultimately, O'Leary’s advice is simple: the best travel card isn’t the one with the most metal in the card itself or the longest list of niche perks. It’s the one that fits your real-world spending habits. If you’re tired of playing the "justification game" with a $895 fee, these sub-$100 options prove that you can still travel like a pro without the premium price tag.

This ‘Beyond the Gates’ Star Just Shared a ‘Life-Changing’ Lesson After a 4-Year Battle With Her Health
Beyond the Gates star Daphnée Duplaix is opening up about a personal health journey, sharing an update with fans as she prepares to undergo surgery.
The CBS daytime star shared the news in a post on Instagram, revealing she would undergo surgery after work. “Today, after work, I’m having surgery — and I’m calling it exactly what it is. Reclaiming my uterus. 🤍,” she wrote.
Duplaix said she was sharing her experience to raise awareness, adding, “Four years ago a doctor told me my only option was a full hysterectomy.”
She said she declined the recommendation at the time, but described the physical toll that followed. “I waited — and that waiting came with real suffering. Heavy bleeding. Uncertainty. A blood transfusion. Regular iron infusions. Managing with anxiety and stress, just pushing through,” she wrote.
Duplaix said that with support from a friend, she eventually sought another medical opinion. She shared that a new gynecologist identified a polyp, which she described as “the biggest culprit,” and one that could be treated without a hysterectomy.
She concluded her post by encouraging women to advocate for their health and seek additional medical opinions when needed. “Women — please hear me. Fibroids, polyps & cyst grow inside us with no warning and no clear reason. Our bodies are still being researched and studied. Medicine does not always have all the answers, and the first answer you’re given is not always the right one. Go to your gynecologist regularly. Ask questions. Get second opinions. Do not let anyone make a permanent decision about your body before every option has been explored. You deserve that. Your body deserves that,” she wrote.
She ended her message on an uplifting note, writing, “Today I take mine back. 🤍🙏🏼”

This Florida Gem is Celebrating a Century of Barefoot Luxury
If you’re looking to trade the winter slush for a dose of "barefoot luxury," there is no better time to put Sarasota on your 2026 travel map. While Florida is full of sunshine, Sarasota offers a rare "vintage-meets-modern" energy—a place where you can spend your morning in a world-class gallery and your afternoon kayaking through mangroves or walking the iconic Ringling Bridge.
According to Brian Hersh, CEO of the Arts and Cultural Alliance of Sarasota County, the region is currently hitting a remarkable cultural high. "Sarasota offers this incredible duality—small-town charm with big-city amenities," Hersh explains. Winfred van Workum, General Manager ofThe St. Regis Longboat Key Resort, agrees that the area defines refined relaxation. "Sarasota defines barefoot luxury," van Workum says. "It delivers a refined yet relaxed sense of luxury that today’s discerning travelers seek."
In 2026, Sarasota is celebrating a wave of 100th anniversaries, including the historic Sarasota Opera House, the legendary Ca' d'Zan (the Ringling mansion) and Art Center Sarasota. As Hersh puts it: "It's like watching a century's worth of cultural investment come into focus all at once... some people are just now discovering what's always been here, kind of like vinyl making a comeback." The city is celebrating with a "Centennial Season" of special concerts and exhibitions that make every block feel like a piece of living history. Here is your insider guide to the best of Sarasota this spring:

Where to Stay: Seaplanes and Circus Chic View this post on InstagramSarasota’s hotel scene is leaning into its unique heritage with a sophisticated flair, offering everything from high-design boutiques to ultra-luxury beachfront escapes.
- The St. Regis Longboat Key Resort: For those seeking the ultimate arrival, you can now "arrive by seaplane directly into Sarasota Bay" via a partnership with Tropic Ocean Airways. Once on property, you can explore a 500,000-gallon saltwater lagoon where marine biologists are currently introducing new spotted eagle rays.
- Cirque St. Armands Beachside: This new standout on Lido Key blends "circus-town charm with real elegance." The design is a whimsical mix of Art Deco and Big Top—think ostrich feather chandeliers and pinstriped columns.
- The Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota: For the classic standard of excellence, you can't beat the Ritz, which is celebrating 25 years in the city. Van Workum notes that "what really sets it apart is access to the Beach Club," allowing guests to toggle between downtown energy and private Gulf-side lounging.
While the city is famous for Siesta Key Beach, locals often gravitate toward Lido Beach or the "quiet, unspoiled backdrop" of Longboat Key Beach. For a deeper immersion in nature, Hersh recommends a kayak tour through the mangroves or a visit to The Bay Park. If you’re feeling adventurous, head south to Venice’s Caspersen Beach to hunt for prehistoric shark teeth. At the St. Regis, guests can even snorkel and explore thousands of marine creatures with its Under the Sea Lagoon experience, getting up close with stingrays and puffer fish. Of course, no trip is complete without a stop at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, which van Workum calls "absolutely astounding."
Where to Eat: Hyperlocal and Award-WinningSarasota’s dining scene is currently defined by creativity and quality. Indigenous is the "must-book" spot for award-winning, hyperlocal sustainable seafood, while Baker and Wife is a favorite for showcasing the region’s creative culinary talent. Inside the St. Regis, CW Prime has recently debuted a new menu under head chef Drew Adams, who van Workum says has brought "such a charismatic, elevated approach to the restaurant." For a classic Sarasota experience outside the resorts, Michael’s on East has undergone beautiful recent renovations, and Veronica’s in South Side Village remains the go-to for an "elusive date-night."
Can’t-Miss Shops and StopsFor the best browsing, head to the historic Palm Avenue to explore its legendary galleries, or wander through St. Armands Circle to visit boutiques like The Met. If you’re looking for a hidden gem, Hersh recommends 502 Gallery in Burns Court, which champions local creators. For a stylish souvenir, stop by the Vilebrequin boutique at the St. Regis to snag their bespoke, circus-inspired print. Before you head home, grab a morning bite at Bread Bandits—Hersh is a "loyalist through and through"—or visit Le Shop in St. Armands for a sophisticated coffee break.

‘Brady Bunch’ Star Recalls On-Set ‘Tension’ While Filming Classic ‘70s Sitcom
In the 1970s, the cast members of The Brady Bunch were like family, both on and off camera. Starring Robert Reed, Florence Henderson, Barry Williams, Maureen McCormick, Christopher Knight, Eve Plumb, Mike Lookinland, Susan Olsen, and Ann B. Davis, the beloved sitcom about a blended family aired from 1969 to 1974 on ABC.
All of the Brady family‘s issues were wrapped up in 22-minute episodes. But behind the scenes, there was drama between series lead Reed and show creator Sherwood Schwartz. Fans first got wind of the tension when Williams, who played eldest son Greg on the show, wrote about it in his book, Growing Up Brady. Williams shared several manifestos that Reed sent to Schwartz to complain about unrealistic storylines.
In a March 2026 interview with Woman’s World, Plumb, who played Jan Brady on the show, said the squabbles didn’t greatly affect the rest of the cast.
“We knew there was tension,” she said. “You’d hear the door slam, and then we’d go on and do something else. It’s like it is in any family—when there’s discord, you figure out a way to get through it.”
Plumb focused more on the feeling of “safety and of respect” with TV mom Henderson and the “professional and pleasant” moments she shared with Reed.
“People always want secrets,” Plumb added. “And I didn’t get a big publisher [for my memoir, Happiness Included href="https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/804738/happiness-included-by-eve-plumb/" target="_blank"] because I wasn’t throwing anybody under the bus.”
Sherwood Schwartz revealed why he clashed with ReedSchwartz was vocal about his issues with Reed, which stemmed from the actor’s past as a theater actor.
“My main problem was with the father. He never should have been on the show to begin with,” Schwartz told Retrocrush in an interview. “He thought of himself as a major actor. He was spoiled because he was in a Shakespeare company in England, and he felt he was above TV in general, officially sitcoms. … I didn’t know all of this background …But Paramount had a deal with Robert Reed."
In a lengthy interview for the Television Academy Foundation, Schwartz described Reed as “a pain in the neck” on set. “He considered television beneath him. He wasn't too happy about that,” Schwartz said. “He was fairly young at that time, and to be the father of six kids was the last thing he wanted in the whole world. So he and I never got along at all.”
“We were at loggerheads all the time,” the Brady Bunch producer continued. “His one passion was accuracy in a script. He never had a problem with the humor, never had a problem with the drama, of which there was considerable in The Brady Bunch. Accuracy was stamped on his forehead. If a writer got the population of Poughkeepsie wrong in the script, he'd walk off the set, not tell you why, because he looked everything up in his Encyclopedia Britannica or someplace.”
While Schwartz tried to protect the child actors on the show from the on-set drama, Reed famously refused to appear in what would be the final Brady Bunch episode over his issues with the far-fetched script. When he showed up to watch the shoot, Schwartz felt uncomfortable but refused to call security in front of the kid actors, he told the Television Academy Foundation.

Florence Henderson helped Robert Reed get through difficult on-set situationsReed had a close friend in Henderson, who played his wife, Carol, on The Brady Bunch. In an interview with the Ashbury Park Press, Henderson revealed that she helped Reed get through some of the on-set disagreements.
"He and I were always great friends," she said in the interview, per MeTV. "I could always get Bob to calm down, kind of smooth things over."
"I don't think he ever did things with great malice," The Brady Bunch star added. "I just think that was Bob's way of doing things, and I accepted him that way."

According to numerologists, each birth date is made up of one to three numerological energies. So, if you’re born on the 30th, you embody the numerological meanings of 3 and 0. This means you’re a curious, creative soul who isn’t afraid to tear something down and try again.
