When it comes to naming the greatest Beatles album, the debate never really ends. But when it comes to influence? That conversation may have a clearer answer.

Collider has ranked The Beatles' 1968 self-titled double album, commonly known as The White Album, as the most important classic rock album of all time, citing its sheer ambition, experimentation and genre-spanning scope as the deciding factors.

Released at a time when rock music was rapidly evolving, the album feels less like a single artistic statement and more like an entire universe. Spanning 30 tracks across two LPs, The White Album embraces folk, blues, proto-metal, avant-garde sound collage, country, pop and hard rock, sometimes all within a single listening session.

That eclecticism is precisely what makes it so influential. Rather than refining one signature sound, the band stretched in every direction at once. The experimental "Revolution 9" pushed rock into abstract, tape-loop territory, while "Helter Skelter" delivered an aggressive, distorted energy that would later be cited as an early precursor to heavy metal. Elsewhere, tracks veer from delicate acoustic ballads to playful character studies and stripped-down rockers.

The album was surprising to some fans, who likely expected a different sound as the follow-up to 1967's Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

"On Sgt. Pepper we had more instrumentation than we'd ever had," explained Paul McCartney in a 1968 interview. "More orchestral stuff than we'd ever used before, so it was more of a production. But we didn't really want to go overboard like that this time, and we've tried to play more like a band this time-- only using instruments when we had to, instead of just using them for the fun of it."

The album's strength lies in how it condenses the past and future of rock music into one expansive project. It reflects everything that had come before in the 1960s while hinting at countless sub-genres that would emerge in the decades to follow. Few albums feel as overwhelming in both size and ambition.

The Beatles had already redefined popular music multiple times by 1968, but The White Album showed just how far rock could stretch without breaking. It proved that a mainstream band could be daring, messy, experimental and commercially viable all at once.

More than half a century later, its influence is still audible across rock, alternative, indie and heavy music. Whether you see it as their best album or simply their boldest, one thing is clear: when it comes to importance, The White Album stands in a league of its own.

Country music is just as popular (if not more popular) than ever, as anyone with ears can tell you. Nearly 80 years since Hank Williams had his first hit with "Move It on Over," country stars are still racking up bestselling songs, with last year's chart-toppers including tracks like Shaboozey's "A Bar Song (Tipsy)," and Chappell Roan's "The Giver."

So when it comes to choosing the greatest country song ever, there's an overwhelming number of options to pick from. Luckily, Billboard managed to narrow it down to the 100 "best country songs of all time"...and, interestingly enough, the top 10 was packed with classics from decades gone by (sorry, "Chicken Fried").

In tenth place was Tammy Wynette's 1968 classic, "Stand by Your Man," and with good reason (if you've ever been romantically involved with a male, the words "'Cause after all, he's just a man" have probably run through your head more than once). Next up, at #9, was the only song from the '90s to make it into the top 10: Garth Brooks' "forever singalong" "Friends in Low Places" (1990). The Carter Family's “Can the Circle Be Unbroken” (1935), in eighth place, was the oldest tune at the top (famously covered by the Nitty Gritty Dirty Band in 1972 on their album of the same name).

Loretta Lynn's "Coal Miner's Daughter" (1970), described by Billboard as a "three-minute encapsulation of finger-bleeding work, parental love, endless chores and indefatigable pride" took the #7 spot, while the iconic Wiliams took 6th place with his quintessential ballad, "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" (1949).

Kicking off the top five was Johnny Cash with the legendary 1956 song "I Walk the Line" (his first #1 Billboard hit), followed by George Jones and the devastating "He Stopped Loving Her Today" (1980). Third place went to Willie Nelson's "On the Road Again" (1980), which the 92-year-old musician still plays live to this day.

Coming in second was Patsy Cline with "Crazy" (1961), which — although it was written by Nelson — became her signature song and one of the most popular country tracks in history.

The top spot on the list went to another country queen, whose reign is still going strong: Dolly Parton's 1973 masterpiece, "Jolene," which Billboard called the prolific singer-songwriter's "pen’s finest moment."

Years after the song's release, Parton opened up about her inspiration during an interview with 60 Minutes Australia, saying, “There was a girl that worked at the bank when my husband and I first got married. She got a big crush on him, and I think he kind of had a crush on her. I knew he was spending more time at the bank than we had money. So, I called him on it, and so I kind of took that little bit of that 'other woman' kind of thing.”

As for where the name "Jolene" came from, as Parton explained to NPR, "One night, I was on stage, and there was this beautiful little girl. She was probably 8 years old at the time. And she had this beautiful red hair, this beautiful skin, these beautiful green eyes, and she was looking up at me, holding, you know, for an autograph."

"I said, 'Well, you're the prettiest little thing I ever saw. So, what is your name?'" Parton continued. "And she said, 'Jolene.' And I said, 'Jolene. Jolene. Jolene. Jolene.' I said, 'That is pretty. That sounds like a song. I'm going to write a song about that.'"

The rest is music history.

On this date 50 years ago—Feb. 21, 1976—Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons hit No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart with "December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night)." Fifty years later, the song still holds a distinction no other artist in music history can claim.

When it topped the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in March 1976, "December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night)" made The Four Seasons the only artist ever to score No. 1 hits before, during and after The Beatles’ chart dominance.

The New Jersey group had already racked up chart-toppers in the early 1960s with “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” and “Walk Like A Man.” They landed another No. 1 in 1964 with “Rag Doll,” during the height of Beatlemania. Then, more than a decade later, they returned to the top with "December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night)," their fifth and final U.S. No. 1.

A Different Voice on a Signature Hit

Unlike many of the group’s biggest hits, "December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night)" did not feature Frankie Valli's signature falsetto on primary lead vocals. Instead, drummer Gerry Polci handled the verses, with Valli singing the bridge sections and backing vocals. Bass player Don Ciccone delivered the soaring falsetto line: “And I felt a rush like a rolling ball of thunder / Spinning my head around and taking my body under.”

The song was written by original Four Seasons keyboardist Bob Gaudio and his future wife Judy Parker, and produced by Gaudio. It appeared on the group’s 1975 album “Who Loves You.”

It Almost Wasn’t About 1963

The track’s origins were even more unexpected. The lyrics were originally set in 1933 under the title “December 5th, 1933,” celebrating the repeal of Prohibition. The concept was eventually reworked into a nostalgic love story set in December 1963, transforming it into one of the most enduring pop hits of the decade.

Beyond the U.K. and U.S., the single also reached No. 1 in Canada and South Africa, No. 2 in New Zealand, and No. 3 in Australia, Belgium and the Netherlands.

The song proved so durable that it was remixed and re-released in 1993, climbing back into the Top 3 in Australia and New Zealand and reaching No. 14 in the U.S.

Formed in 1960 in Newark, New Jersey, The Four Seasons became one of the best-selling musical groups of all time, with an estimated 100 million records sold worldwide. The original lineup was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.

There may very well be snow falling outside my window but mentally I'm already in spring. I'm dreaming about florals, pastels and light cotton fabrics that float instead of cling. Kate Hudsonstepped out at the Nominees’ Party for the EE BAFTA Film Awards 2026 at the National Portrait Gallery in London, England, on Saturday, February 21, 2026, celebrating the kickoff of awards season ahead of the 79th British Academy Film Awards.

Hudson, 46, who’s nominated for Leading Actress for her role as Claire Sardina in the musical drama Song Sung Blue, looked so fashionable in a corseted dress with a black bodice contrasted by a flowy white skirt.

Her hair was worn to the side in loose waves and she opted for minimal jewelry and a bold red manicure. 

Song Sung Blue, written and directed by Craig Brewer, is a musical drama about a real-life married duo (Hudson's Claire Sardina and Hugh Jackman's Mike Sardina) who form a Neil Diamond tribute band and chase love and dreams through music.

Despite Hudson’s stellar performance in the film, she wasn’t familiar with Diamond’s music before signing on. Speaking with People, the Almost Famous alum admitted Diamond, 85, “wasn't someone that I grew up with,” but through the role, she said, “it was a nice discovery for me to get to know his music.”

Hudson gushed, “Having Neil Diamond’s music as the backdrop to play these real-life people, who just were such fans, was wonderful. And then, watching the movie was just such a joy … I felt like it has a little bit of everything in it. It’s entertaining, but you walk away feeling inspired. I love that it lacks cynicism. There’s something really pure about this movie,” and explains that “it delivers something unexpected to an audience.”

Rebecca Gayheart just honored husband Eric Dane in the sweetest way possible on social media.

Taking to her Instagram Stories (@rebeccagayheartdane) today, she posted a series of initimate videos, homages, clips, and photos that all play out like a sort of family photo album.

The tribute starts “somewhere in the beginning,” with a picture of Dane and Gayheart lounging on a bed. There’s an open laptop nearby; Gayheart is propping her head on Dane’s chest and looking up at the camera.  

Gayheart’s emotional tribute spans nearly 10 minutes and includes footage of Dane’s television work on Grey’s Anatamy; beach vacations with their girls, Billie Beatrice Dane and Georgia Geraldine Dane; and his "famous last words."

Somewhere near the middle of the slideshow, footage of Dane’s interview with Brad Falchuk, titled Famous Last Words, which was released the Friday after he died on Netflix, plays.

“I see you now playing in the ocean for hours, my water babies,” he says, speaking directly to his daughters. “Live now,” he adds, sharing a lesson he’s learned from the disease.  

Songs including Lady Gaga’s “Always Remember Us This Way,” off the A Star Is Born soundtrack; “Chasing Cars,” by Snow Patrol; and “Tears in Heaven,” by Eric Clapton, play over some of the videos. Toward the end, there’s video of their girls playing “Fly Me to the Moon” on the piano and singing along.

The tribute ends with a picture of Dane in his wheelchair in what appears to be a men’s department store. Fair warning: Keep tissues nearby as you watch. This one left us a wreck.

Dane passed away Thursday, Feb. 19, after a battle with ALS. He announced his diagnosis 10 months earlier. He was 53.

The Internet is howling over "black cat energy" and "Golden Retriever energy." But if you're not highly online, or your algorithm is more prone to sending you actual cat antics videos, you may have missed all the dialogue. So, Parade spoke to a psychologist to give you the 411 on what these words mean in this context. Because black cat and Golden Retriever relationships aren't exactly a direct translation situation.

When you think of those two things—a black cat and a Golden Retriever dog—you probably notice that they're complete opposites of each other, right? Well, that's kind of what the concept of a black cat vs. Golden Retriever relationship means. And while those two would most likely be natural enemies to one another in animal form, in humans, it's another story. That might actually be part of the charm.

These labels are obviously referring to people who have the energies of black cats and Goldens, and so those different personalities are meant to suit each other nicely. But first, it's always a good idea to consider the traits you want in a partner, regardless of how the internet is personality typing this week.

"It also helps you recognize early on if someone isn’t a good match," Dr. Sanam Hafeez, Psy.D, a neuropsychologist and the director of Comprehend the Mind, states. "Knowing what brings out the best in you makes it easier to grow together and get to know that person on a deeper level. This awareness can lead to a happier, more balanced relationship."

OK, so why do black cat vs. Golden Retriever relationships usually work? Dr. Hafeez weighs in on the popular dating theory.

What Does It Mean To Be in a ‘Black Cat' vs. 'Golden Retriever’ Relationship?

As you probably already guessed, these terms refer to humans who embody the spirit and vibes of these two particular animals.

“'Black cat energy' describes a person who embodies confidence, independence and an air of mystique," says Dr. Hafeez. "They are typically comfortable in their own skin and unaffected by others' opinions. People with this energy often seem cool, strong and in control. It’s more about the way you carry yourself and your attitude than anything else."

Golden Retrievers are the yin to a black cat's yang.

“'Golden Retriever energy' is akin to the dog breed and explains someone who is loyal, friendly, warm and engaging," she explains. "They are typically cheerful, people pleasers. They are reliable, caring, and freely affectionate. This type of energy makes people feel secure and appreciated."

Why Do Black Cat vs. Golden Retriever Relationships Usually Work?1. Consistency

Black cats value consistency and are more likely to open up to a partner who proves dependable, Dr. Hafeez states. Golden Retrievers are simply fetching in the dependability department.

"Golden Retriever energies are there for you when you need them," Dr. Hafeez says. "You can trust that they won’t bail on you, which creates a sense of security within the relationship."

2. Energy balance

The more reserved black cat can rein in the more boisterous Golden, preventing them overextending themselves at the expense of themselves. At the same time. Golden Retrievers really know how to help black cats come out of their shells, so to speak.

"Black cats... can benefit from someone who naturally brings lightness into the relationship," Dr. Hafeez states. "The warmth helps them soften over time and feel emotionally secure."

3. Desire to please others

Sometimes, a Golden Retriever's propensity to overextend themselves can include people-pleasing tendencies. A black cat is more comfortable with boundaries, and because of this, Goldens can learn from their black cat partner. At the same time, a Golden Retriever's healthy desire to please a black cat partner (read: it doesn't turn toxic) can add spark to the relationship.

"Someone with Golden Retriever energy wants their partner to be happy," Dr. Hafeez says. "They strive to provide what you need and want to make sure you feel loved and appreciated.This pairs well with a black cat personality because they often show love more subtly and may not always voice their needs directly."

She adds that the attentive and attuned Golden Retriever can help the black cat feel cared for without having to over-explain themselves.

4. No-rush communication

Dr. Hafeez notes that black cats often need a bit more time to process things and don't want to feel rushed or misunderstood. Goldens are patient and have open ears and hearts.

"They know how to express what they’re feeling in healthy ways, which can prevent bigger arguments," she shares.

5. Emotional closeness

Black cats take their time thawing and sharing things. You have to earn their trust. That's not a bad thing, and Golden Retrievers can learn from that. However, Dr. Hafeez would be remiss if she did not point out that Goldens are highly emotionally intelligent.

"They aren’t afraid to be vulnerable with their feelings and will let their partner get close," Dr. Hafeez says. "Both people in the relationship feel comfortable expressing themselves and feel heard. Black cats... may guard their emotions at first and need time to feel safe. A partner with strong emotional intelligence helps them feel understood."

She says that, eventually, the black cat's walls will (gradually) come down.

Why the Black Cat and Golden Retriever Dating Theory Isn't Always Right

Black cats and Golden Retrievers can form loving, lasting partnerships. However, it's not guaranteed that the relationship will work out. Sometimes, a black cat and a Golden Retriever simply won't vibe. Dr. Hafeez shares that the two archetypes have different emotional needs.

"Golden Retrievers love closeness and spending lots of time together," she explains. "Black cats value independence and alone time. This mismatch can make the Golden Retriever feel neglected, and the black cat feel smothered."

Emotional pacing can also become a pain point.

"Golden retrievers move at a consistently loving pace," Dr. Hafeez says. "They seek reassurance frequently. Black cats are moody. It takes time before they let their guard down. One partner may feel misunderstood while the other feels rushed."

Photos showed the Irwin family hard at work in their roles as conservationists, pictured alongside a host of animals, and personal family photos as well, some with younger brother Robert Irwin and some without—including one before Robert Irwin was born, depicting Bindi Irwin as a baby with a snake draped around her, Terri Irwin and Steve Irwin's shoulders.

In the two hours since the post was shared, it has already amassed nearly 100,000 likes and is flooded with messages of love for Bindi Irwin, her dad and the rest of their family. Among the comments, in fact, is Terri Irwin herself, who wrote, "Your dad loved you so much, and was a proud girl dad!"

Steve Irwin would have turned 64 years old today, but the conservationist, zookeeper and television star passed away suddenly nearly 20 years ago, when he was 44 years old, after an accident with a stingray. His family members have continued to keep his legacy alive, with Terri Irwin as well as both of their children remaining heavily involved in conservationist work, as well as public education.

The family has also maintained a presence in the public eye, particularly with Bindi Irwin and Robert Irwin's respective appearances on Dancing with the Stars. In fact, both won the show, Bindi Irwin in 2015, and Robert Irwin 10 years later, in 2025.

With the highly anticipated Beatles biopics slated to hit theaters in April 2028, audiences will take any crumbs about the project they can get in the meantime. 

Anna Sawai, who will be playing Yoko Ono, opened up about what people can expect from her portrayal of the avant-garde artist and John Lennon’s widow.

“It's just exciting because [Ono’s] story is so inspirational to me, and people really don't know the true person that she was,” Sawai, 33, told People in an interview published on Saturday, February 21.

“She's an incredible artist. And also, she just was an independent woman, and people didn't like that. They wanted John [Lennon] for themselves, and she was an easy target,” the Shōgun star added. “And I think it's very meaningful for me to be able to tell her story.”

As for what Sawai loves most about Ono, who turned 93 years on February 18, she said, “Just how bold she is. Oh my God, I love her. She's so cool.”

The upcoming Beatles biopics, directed by Sam Mendes, will be four separate films released on the same day, starring Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison.

Mendes, 60, has directed films such as American Beauty, 1917, Skyfall, Spectre, and Road to Perdition.

Lindsey Vonn is responding to online criticism that she was "selfish" for competing in the Milan Olympics with a torn ACL.

The Olympic gold medalist shared a post on her Instagram account on Saturday, Feb. 21, where she defended her decision to compete despite being injured.

"It wasn't all for nothing...it wasn't a dream...although sitting in this hospital bed it seems far away now...but I did it. I came back. I won," Vonn began the post.

She continued, "I showed up and did what most thought was impossible at my age with a partial knee replacement. These memories I’ll have forever and I’m grateful for every one of them. Every moment was amazing. Every moment was worth it."

She then expressed that the online hate surrounding her decision to compete "stung."

"One thing that stung was when people said I was selfish and should give my Olympic spot to someone else," she said. "So… I just wanted to recap my season for all the haters out there that didn’t understand what it means to earn your spot, and on a more positive note, to just reflect."

Vonn then concluded the Instagram post by listing out her professional accomplishments for the season.

"#1 in the downhill standings. 3rd in [Super-G] standings. 2x Downhill wins. On every downhill podium all season. 7/8 podiums overall (only one 4th place)," she wrote. "It’s not impossible until it’s done. I didn’t reach my ultimate goal…. But I still did a lot. Thank you to those who believed! ❤️🙏🏻"

Vonn is currently hospitalized following a crash during the women's downhill final on Feb. 8. She underwent four surgeries in Italy and is now back in the United States as she continues to recover. Vonn suffered a complex tibia fracture and underwent a fifth surgery on Friday, Feb. 20.

It's been a big year for adults who grew up in the 1990s and early 2000s already, from Hilary Duff's upcoming tour to the news of a 20th anniversary Hannah Montana special, but true '90s kids will get a particular kick out of the news that Blue's Clues original host Steve Burnsand every millennial's favorite scientist, Bill Nye, sat down together for an interview.

On Burns' podcast Alive with Steve Burns, Bill Nye the Science Guy star Nye and Blue's Clues OG Burns spoke about the similarities between and importance of their respective shows, particularly as they relate to teaching critical thinking and deductive reasoning skills to children.

Speaking to Nye, Burns explained, "I always kind of saw our show as an on-ramp to your show. You know, because we kind of had a similar mission. We kind of had a similar goal. You were teaching the scientific process; we were teaching preschool deductive reasoning, critical thinking. All I did was run around the house and look for evidence, right? That we could then think about critically before we formed our opinion. Like, that's what we were doing."

Nye responded, "I watched your show a bit; I didn't hear the word critical very much because you didn't need it."

"Right, no, we were just modeling it. You know, we weren't saying it; we were just doing it," Burns replied.

This conversation, as well as Burns' podcast more generally, is representative of a slight career shift for Burns, although it's not a complete departure from his Nickelodeon days. While he's no longer tracking down clues or singing the "Mail Time" song with a cartoon dog, Burns has continued to connect with his (now decades older) audience with inspiring and informative videos, particularly on TikTok.

Likewise, Nye has stayed in the public eye, and, most recently, he has stepped down as CEO of The Planetary Society—a position he had held since 2010—and begun a new role there as Chief Ambassador.

Thankfully, for millennials who grew up on these shows, it doesn't seem Burns or Nye will be going anywhere anytime soon.

On Saturday, Feb. 21, Rolling Stone noted that Network still "somehow feels more shocking, more sobering, and more timely than ever" these days.

"In 1976, the idea that putting 'a manifestly irresponsible man on national television,' preaching a no-bulls--t gospel of sticking it to the Man, as well as pitching a show that hopes to turn political firebrands into the next sweeps-week superstars, was outrageous," the magazine's David Fear writes in an article published Saturday, Feb. 21. "In 2026, both would be considered tame — though, to be fair, the programs would still generate an abundance of memes and have millions of followers on their respective YouTube channels."

Roseanne Barr, the controversial actress known for her starring role in the classic sitcomRoseanne that started in 1988, had fans talking with her latest social media update as Barr showed off her dance moves on top of a coffee table.

The 73-year-old looked a little unrecognizable in the clip, rocking short, light-colored hair, a sparkling statement choker necklace, dangling earrings, a black long-sleeved shirt, and black velvet overalls.

These days, Barr has been switching up her look with the help of wigs, although she usually goes for a bright blonde look of some variety. But the latest video appeared to show Barr with her natural hair during a casual moment with some loved ones.

Ghislaine Maxwell’s brother, Ian Maxwell, is once again speaking out in defense of his sister, insisting she was wrongfully convicted and unfairly targeted in the aftermath of Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes.

Ghislaine, 64, is currently serving a 20-year federal prison sentence after being convicted of sex trafficking in 2021. In a Friday, February 20 interview with The Telegraph, Ian, 69, doubled down on his belief that she was made an example of.

“My sister is the fall guy,” he told the outlet, adding, “Somebody had to pay the price for what Epstein did, and so the government and the media chose her.” He went on to say, “I genuinely believe that if Epstein were alive, he would be incarcerated and she would be free.”

Ian recalled learning of her 2020 arrest while watching the news, describing it as “unbelievable” and “totally shocking.” He said, “They sent in a helicopter and 20 armed agents, as though she were a menace to society. It was unbelievable, totally shocking,” adding, “That was the moment my sister became a scapegoat for the dreadful crimes perpetrated by Jeffrey Epstein.”

He further argued that the legal process was flawed. “Ghislaine has done nothing wrong, and the length of her conviction is outrageous,” he said, also claiming her trial “wasn’t fair, and her conviction isn’t safe.” Referring to newly released Epstein-related documents, Ian added, “Within the latest release of the Epstein files are some exceptionally important documents from Ghislaine’s perspective, which entirely support her contention that she did not receive a fair trial.” He noted, “But she has no access to a computer in prison, so she can’t read them. Is it any wonder I’m angry?”

As legal battles continue on multiple fronts, Ian maintains his stance. “Blood is always thicker than water,” he said. “The fact is she’s my kid sister and there’s no compassion for her, she needs to have someone on her side. That’s where family comes in.”

Meanwhile, developments in the broader Epstein saga continue. On February 19, Prince Andrew was arrested in the U.K. on suspicion of misconduct in public office. The family of Virginia Giuffre, who previously accused both Epstein and Andrew of sexual abuse, responded in a statement to CBS, saying, “At last, today, our broken hearts have been lifted at the news that no one is above the law, not even royalty.”
