F1 News: Christian Horner Reveals Why Red Bull Hasn't Released Information On Allegations

Thu, 03/07/2024 - 10:00pm

In the wake of mounting controversy and an internal investigation within the Red Bull Racing team, Team Principal Christian Horner has spoken out amidst allegations and the subsequent suspension of the complainant, revealing why he and the team haven't been transparent on this subject.

Key takeaways

  • Christian Horner explains the lack of transparency on allegations due to the confidential nature of internal processes and the negative impact of media leaks.
  • The internal investigation by Red Bull cleared Horner of accusations but led to the suspension of the accuser, fueling discussions within the F1 community.
  • Horner emphasizes confidentiality restrictions and the competitive environment of F1, while affirming the team's unity and focus on racing.

Red Bull Content Pool

The recent developments stem from accusations levelled against Horner by an employee of the team, which led to a comprehensive review by Red Bull's parent company in Austria. The investigation concluded with Horner being cleared of all allegations, but not without further complications as the accuser was suspended with full pay after alleged evidence was leaked to people of influence within F1, a move that has ignited discussions across the Formula 1 community.

Horner, addressing the media ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, highlighted the confidential nature of the grievance process, revealing why there's been little information given to the press and public.

"I think it's a complicated issue because each company - and these companies will be exactly the same as with any other major company," he asserted. "There is a grievance process that takes place in any company and that process is confidential between the individuals and the company itself.

"I'm not at liberty, unfortunately, due to those confidentiality [concerns] and out of respect to the company and, of course, the other party, that we're all bound by the same restrictions. And so even if I would like to talk about it, I can't because of those confidentiality restrictions. There's a reason for that."

The Red Bull Team Principal pointed to the unwarranted attention the case has garnered, largely due to leaks to the media, which he suggests have been trying, especially for his family.

"Now, the only reason that this has gained so much attention, obviously, is because of the leakage and the tension that there's been drawn in the media, which has been very trying in many respects, and particularly for my family, because it's all been focused very much in one direction.

"And of course, what has happened then after that, others have looked to take advantage of it. And whether that be for... Unfortunately, Formula 1 is a competitive business, and there's been, obviously, elements have looked to benefit from it, and that's perhaps the not-so-pretty side of our industry.

"So, of course, there are always lessons, but there's a process that is governed within the company that it's not an FIA issue, it's not a Formula 1 issue, it's a company employee issue, and that would be the same in any major organisation."

Despite the turbulence, Red Bull has maintained a united front, asserting that the team remains focused on the racing aspect of the sport.

As the Formula 1 circus moves to the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, the spotlight remains on Red Bull Racing and Christian Horner, not just for their performance on the track, but also for how they navigate this storm.

F1 News: Williams Chief Outlines Logan Sargeant Targets For Contract Extension

Thu, 03/07/2024 - 7:00pm

Williams team principal, James Vowles, has commented on what Logan Sargeant has to do to ensure him a seat in 2025. The young American driver has a contract that sees him with the Grove squad until the end of 2024 alongside teammate Alex Albon, who will be staying at least until the end of 2025.

Key takeaways

  • Logan Sargeant needs to show continuous improvement to stay with Williams post-2024, as per team principal James Vowles.
  • Sargeant's rookie year had challenges but included a top 10 finish and a strong qualifying at the Las Vegas GP.
  • Emphasis on progress without errors, with Sargeant's current season starting promisingly in practice sessions.

Williams F1

Logan Sargeant's inaugural season in Formula 1 in 2023 was a period of significant growth and challenges. Competing with Williams, he finished 21 in the driver's standings out of 22 drivers, indicative of a year filled with learning opportunities for the newcomer.

His highest achievement in qualifying came with a 7th place at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, although he often found himself starting near the back due to various challenges in qualifying and penalties incurred.

On the track, Sargeant's efforts bore fruit in a handful of races, despite the overarching struggles. He managed a top 10 finish in the United States Grand Prix, where he clinched the P10. However, his best race finish came at the British Grand Prix, where he secured the 11th position.

Compared to his experienced teammate, Alex Albon, he still has plenty to learn. And while we're not yet two races into the season, Vowles has a good idea of the driver's targets this season.

"It's important to him to get good results," the Williams chief said in today's press conference. "The only thing I would say is it's not the early on bit. What we have to see from him is progress as we continue on.

"Early on implies that there's a risk if he's not performing after three races that something will happen, and that's simply not the case. In the case of Logan, he knows that he finished last year starting to build on what he had as an experience base, and he's coming back here not as a rookie now, but someone that has years of experience behind him.

"He's got to build on that without mistakes, without error, and continually move forward. And I would say today in FP1, happy with that when you look at the gap to Alex, but the field is so tight now that just a tenth is pushing you back four or five places where we are."

Sargeant finished P16 in FP2 after finishing 14th on the timesheet in FP1. This comes after a difficult Bahrain campaign where the driver suffered from steering wheel issues that severely impacted his race with him finishing at the back of the pack, while Albon, who also suffered, finished P15.

Hopefully the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix will be a luckier weekend for the pair.

F1 News: Fernando Alonso Speaks Out - Allegations Outshining Unexciting Racing

Thu, 03/07/2024 - 6:31pm

Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso has revealed that with the current state of affairs in Formula 1, the controversies brewing off-track are garnering more attention than the on-track action, which seems unexciting, courtesy of that "one car winning the last 72 grand prix".

Key Takeaways:

  • Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin voiced concerns over Formula 1's state, highlighting off-track controversies overshadowing unexciting on-track action due to one dominant car.
  • February and March saw F1 embroiled in controversies, including Christian Horner's misconduct investigation at Red Bull and internal discord with Max Verstappen's father.
  • An internal ethics probe at the FIA emerged, alleging President Mohammed Ben Sulayem's involvement in hindering the Las Vegas circuit approval and influencing last year's Saudi Arabian Grand Prix outcome involving Alonso. Alonso awaits FIA's investigation outcome.

Red Bull Content Pool

February was a month of controversies in F1, with the off-track action spilling into March. The focus leading up to the season opener in Bahrain revolved around Christian Horner's misconduct investigation at Red Bull. Following the dismissal of those allegations, the narrative has evolved into an internal discord between Horner and the father of Max Verstappen, Jos Verstappen.

In addition, reports surfaced about an internal ethics probe within the governing FIA. The BBC reported allegations from a whistle-blower, suggesting FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem tried to obstruct the approval of the Las Vegas street circuit and tamper with the outcome of the previous year's Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. The race had witnessed Aston Martin's Alonso initially lose and then regain a podium spot following the reversal of a post-race penalty.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday on the controversies and the unexciting on-track scenario in 2024, Alonso said:

"There is too much talk off-track because on-track activities are not very exciting at the moment.

"There is one car winning the last 72 grand prix, more or less dominating three years.

"So, when this happens in a sport, there is always a lot of activity off-track."

Speaking on the investigation involving Ben Sulayem on the penalty reversal, Alonso added:

"It's more an FIA investigation that we have to respect and see the outcome.

"We are happy with all the evidence and all the proof that we showed last year, so it was quite a clear resolution for us. So let's see what FIA says on their own investigation, but it's not really up to us, to Aston Martin."

Aston Martin Chief Opens Up On Fernando Alonso's F1 Future Amid Retirement Rumours

Thu, 03/07/2024 - 5:04pm

Aston Martin's team principal Mike Krack has addressed the swirling speculation around Fernando Alonso's future in Formula 1, shedding light on the Spanish driver's thoughts on retirement. Alonso, who is nearing the 43-year mark, recently vocalised the challenges posed by F1's demanding schedule, sparking conversations about his tenure in the sport.

Key Takeaways

  • Fernando Alonso is contemplating retirement due to the physical and mental demands of Formula 1, influenced by the sport's longest-ever season.
  • Despite nearing 43, Alonso's performance remains high, fueled by motivation and a rigorous fitness regime, but he acknowledges the need for total dedication to the sport.
  • Alonso, a two-time world champion, is weighing his passion for racing against the exhaustive nature of F1 and other interests he wishes to explore.

Red Bull Press Image

"Well, I think Fernando highlighted many times now that first he needs to be sure about himself, what he wants to do, because he's a driver that is not participating in Formula One," said the Aston Martin boss in today's press conference. "When he runs, he wants to be at the front. And the commitment that you need for that, I think he's very aware of it.

"So he needs to make up his mind first if he wants to stay. And then if that's the case, we will push or we give everything that he stays with us."

Alonso's reflections come in the wake of comments made to the BBC, where he spoke openly about the physical and mental toll of Formula 1's longest-ever season, spanning 24 races. Despite his age, Alonso's performance remains top-notch, fuelled by a robust motivation and enhanced fitness regime, supported by a new team nutritionist.

"Maybe I would have said 41 or 42 before. Now I can think maybe I can race for a few more years. So I would say if you are motivated and want to commit, you can drive until 48 or 49 or maybe even 50. But at the same time, you have to give up everything in life. F1 needs total dedication - I gave my life for this.

"I am happy with that and I can keep going for a few more years but I don't know if I will be racing until 50 with such a demanding calendar as that - not for the abilities but because there are other things in life I am curious [about]."

Alonso's illustrious career, highlighted by two world championships, is at a critical juncture. With the sport evolving and the calendar expanding, the veteran driver is at a crossroads, balancing his enduring zeal for racing against the exhaustive nature of the sport.

F1 News: Mercedes Receives Huge Fine After Lewis Hamilton Steward Review

Thu, 03/07/2024 - 1:01pm

Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has been cleared following a review by the FIA stewards after a near-miss incident with Williams driver Logan Sargeant during the second free practice session in Saudi Arabia.

The much-anticipated meeting concluded with Hamilton receiving a warning, while the team received a 15,000 euro fine. This allows the Mercedes star to continue his race weekend without further worry.

The incident, which occurred on the fast-paced Jeddah Corniche Circuit, saw Hamilton and Sargeant come dangerously close on the track, prompting an immediate and formal review by the sport's governing body.

Sargeant was forced to take evasive action to steer clear of Hamilton's slower-moving Mercedes, a manoeuvre that led to immediate frustration voiced over the team radio and subsequently, an official summons for Hamilton to discuss the matter with the stewards at 9:30 pm local time.

"I didn't realise someone was on a lap. I was trying to get out of the way for Sainz and all of a sudden there was a Williams there," Hamilton explained down his radio to his team at the time.

The reason is defined as such:

The Stewards heard from the driver of Car 44 (Lewis Hamilton), the driver of Car 2 (Logan Sargeant), team representatives and reviewed positioning/marshalling system data, video, team radio and in-car video evidence and determine that Car 44 impeded Car 2 at Turn 11. As a result, Car 2 had to take evasive action by going off the track to avoid a collision. Had that not been done, there would have been a serious, high speed crash.

Having listened to the team radio, it was clear to us that the team of Car 44 failed to warn their driver of the fact that Car 2 was arriving on a fast lap. That was a serious failure on the part of the team, particularly given the speeds on this circuit and the nature of turn 11, which is at the end of a series of high speed corners where driver visibility is impaired. We therefore issue a warning to the driver and impose a fine of €15,000 to the team.

F1 News: Zak Brown On Christian Horner Allegations - "A Lot Of People Uncomfortable"

Thu, 03/07/2024 - 12:30pm

Zak Brown has expressed his discomfort over the allegations against Christian Horner. The McLaren CEO voiced concerns about the lack of clarity surrounding the situation.

Key Takeaways:

  • Zak Brown finds the emergence of allegations against Horner disappointing and concerning.
  • Brown stresses the importance of transparency and thorough investigation by the FIA.
  • The McLaren CEO highlights the unease within the F1 community due to the ongoing speculation.

The recent allegations against Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner have stirred the pot considerably in the world of F1. McLaren's CEO, Zak Brown, recently weighed in on the matter, sharing his perspective on the unsettling situation. Brown's comments come in the wake of developments surrounding an internal review by Red Bull, which saw the paid suspension of an employee who accused Horner of misconduct.

“I think it’s disappointing that these allegations surfaced, I think it’s very concerning, from what I can see a lot of people still have a lot of questions, there’s a lot of speculation," he told F! commentator Vigneron Gaetan.

“Everyone being a little bit in the dark makes everyone, or a lot of people, uncomfortable. I think we need to rely on the FIA as our regulator, they have the responsibility and authority to make sure that everyone in Formula 1 is conducting themselves in a way that is appropriate to the sport’s values – both on and off the track because we’re all brand ambassadors.”

“I’m just hoping the FIA had full transparency and has been thorough. We haven’t really heard from them. My expectations is to hear from [them], that they’ve seen what the report is, that they agree with the conclusions, and I think until that happens, there’ll still be a lot of questions by people. [Hearing from them] is what I’m hoping for.”

The controversy traces back to an internal review conducted by Red Bull's parent company, which led to the suspension of an employee who levelled misconduct allegations against Horner. Despite the review exonerating Horner and offering the accuser a window for appeal, the situation has ignited a debate on workplace conduct within F1 teams and the mechanisms in place for handling such allegations after the leaking of unverified evidence.

Red Bull has maintained a tight-lipped stance on the matter, highlighting the confidentiality of the internal review process and the privacy of all involved. This approach, while aimed at protecting the parties' privacy, has contributed to the atmosphere of speculation and discomfort noted by Brown.

As the F1 community awaits further developments, the emphasis on transparency, due process, and adherence to the sport's values remains paramount.

F1 News: Lewis Hamilton Summoned To Stewards After Saudi Arabia FP2

Thu, 03/07/2024 - 12:25pm

Seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton has been summoned to the FIA stewards following an incident during the second free practice session in Saudi Arabia. The Mercedes star was involved in a close call with Williams' Logan Sargeant, prompting an official review.

Key Takeaways:

  • Lewis Hamilton has been called to meet with the FIA stewards at 9:30pm local time (6:30pm GMT) to discuss an on-track incident involving Williams driver Logan Sargeant.
  • The incident in question saw Sargeant forced to take evasive action to avoid colliding with Hamilton's slower-moving Mercedes.
  • Both drivers will provide their perspectives to the stewards, with Sargeant having already expressed his frustration over the team radio during the incident.

Lewis Hamilton found himself in the midst of a contentious situation that has since necessitated a formal review by the FIA stewards. Sargeant, the American driver for Williams, was on a flying lap when he encountered a slower Hamilton on the track. The ensuing moment forced Sargeant to make a swift manoeuvre to avoid a potential crash.

Hamilton expressed regret and misunderstanding over the Mercedes team radio.

"I didn't realise someone was on a lap. I was trying to get out of the way for Sainz and all of a sudden there was a Williams there," he stated to his race engineer Peter Bonnington.

Sainz, too, took to the team radio to lament the situation, emphasising the potential danger posed by Hamilton's positioning on the track.

"What Hamilton did there was super dangerous. Like he was in the middle, I couldn't get out of the way. Sargeant nearly crashed because of him," he remarked.

Fernando Alonso put in the fastest time during the second free practice session ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

George Russell and Max Verstappen put in the second and third fastest times, respectively, behind Alonso.

The second practice session was held at the same time as Qualifying and the Grand Prix so it gave fans a slightly more representative view of how the teams and drivers are performing.

Despite a delayed start due to drain covers in the pit lane being checked, the teams and drivers still had an hour of track time.

Lewis Hamilton is set to be investigated after the session for potentially impeding Logan Sargeant whilst getting out of the way of Carlos Sainz. The seven-time champion said to his race engineer Peter Bonnington:

"I didn't realise someone was on a lap. I was trying to get out of the way for Sainz and all of a sudden there was a Williams there."

Hamilton's teammate George Russell was also struggling with instability. He was heard commenting:

"Car is so unstable in high speed, so so unstable in high speed."

Another close call came between Russell and Tsunoda on one of the curved straights. With under five minutes to go, Hamilton ran into power issues so returned to the pit.

F1 News: Karun Chandhok Comments On Max Verstappen's Rumoured Move To Mercedes

Thu, 03/07/2024 - 11:30am

In a surprising twist to the F1 rumour mill, Max Verstappen has been linked with a potential move to Mercedes, sparked by unrest within Red Bull. Karun Chandhok, a respected figure in the motorsport world and former F1 driver, has shared his insights, doubting such a move would materialise in the near future.

Key takeaways:

  • Karun Chandhok, now an analyst with Sky Sports F1, casts doubt on Max Verstappen leaving Red Bull for Mercedes amidst current speculations.
  • The speculation arises from Jos Verstappen's critical comments about Red Bull's team dynamics and leadership under Christian Horner.
  • Chandhok suggests Red Bull is focusing on resolving internal conflicts to retain Verstappen.

Red Bull Content Pool

The Formula 1 community was abuzz with speculation after allegations against Christian Horner came to light ahead of the season start. This story has since spread and engulfed the sport in a fire that shows no signs of abating, especially after it was confirmed that the female colleague allegedly involved in the drama has since been dismissed with full pay.

As one might expect, the Milton Keynes team is fighting against the resulting backlash from endless rumours and unverified evidence. But questions are arising as to who may drop out and join a team not caught up in such negativity.

One name recently hit headlines in the form of Adrian Newey. The CTO of the energy drinks team has seen huge success due to his and his teams' work under the current regulations. But could the scene that Red Bull currently finds itself in see him move to the likes of Mercedes?

The focus suddenly turned to Max Verstappen after it was revealed his father, Jos, had a few stern words about his son's boss, Horner

"There is tension here while he remains in position,' he told the Daily Mail. "The team is in danger of being torn apart. It can't go on the way it is. It will explode.

"He is playing the victim, when he is the one causing the problems."

Max was keen to extinguish the retort from fans:

“I guess he [Jos] clearly felt like that. But from my side, it doesn’t matter being on one side or the other side,” he admitted.

“As a son of my dad’s it would be weird to be on a different side [than him]. But I just want to focus on the performance side of things and have less talk of what we are doing outside of the track than actual performance. We have a great car and look forward to a great year."

Despite him showing solidarity with his team, widespread speculation has continued on his future with the reigning championship team.

Chandhok, speaking from Sky Sports F1, weighed in on the situation, offering a measured perspective.

"Jos Verstappen’s first loyalty is going to lie with his son. He and ultimately, above everything else, as a father, wants what's best for Max.

"What's best for Max is to have him in the best car possible, winning lots of world championships, and carrying on this journey that he's on at the moment.

"So, despite all of the stuff that came out, and it exploded all over the internet on Monday, I don't believe that Max is looking to go to Mercedes."

As we saw earlier this season with Lewis Hamilton's surprise move to Ferrari, nothing is impossible. But it is highly unlikely that Verstappen will leave a tried and tested machine to go to a team struggling for podiums.

"I think they're trying to just focus attention back on track," he finished.

F1 Rumour: Christian Horner Accuser Suspended By Red Bull For "Dishonesty"

Thu, 03/07/2024 - 11:24am

Red Bull Racing has suspended a female employee following her allegations of misconduct against Team Principal Christian Horner. The accusations, which surfaced last month, led to an internal review, resulting in Horner's exoneration prior to the Bahrain Grand Prix. A report from BBC sport now indicates that the employee was suspended for being "dishonest".

Key Takeaways:

  • The accuser of Christian Horner has been suspended by Red Bull due to allegations of dishonesty.
  • Christian Horner was cleared of all allegations by an internal investigation before the Bahrain Grand Prix.
  • Internal conflicts and rumours of Max Verstappen's potential departure have emerged alongside this controversy.

Red Bull Content Pool

The world of Formula One has been closely watching the unfolding drama within the Red Bull Racing team, following allegations against Christian Horner. The saga took an unexpected turn when the team decided to suspend the woman who brought forth these claims. According to BBC Sport:

"BBC Sport has learned the reason given by Red Bull to the employee was that she had been dishonest."

Horner has staunchly denied all accusations against him from the outset. The team's investigation into the matter concluded with his name being cleared, allowing him to retain his position within the organisation. Despite this, the controversy has not waned, with leaked documents purportedly containing messages from Horner prompting calls from competitors for an external review of the situation.

The repercussions of this scandal have extended beyond the immediate allegations, affecting team dynamics. Notably, a reported rift between Horner and Max Verstappen's father, Jos, during the Bahrain Grand Prix has fuelled speculation regarding Verstappen's future with Red Bull.

This internal conflict and the ongoing controversy surrounding Horner's allegations have cast a shadow over Red Bull's public image and internal harmony. With the F1 community closely watching, the situation remains fluid, especially with the accuser given a five-day window to contest the investigation's findings.

Red Bull has stressed the fairness and impartiality of the investigation, assuring that it upholds the highest standards of workplace conduct.

F1 News: Christian Horner On Max Verstappen's Red Bull Future After Exit Clause Rumours

Thu, 03/07/2024 - 10:29am

Christian Horner has confidently addressed speculation surrounding Max Verstappen's future with Red Bull Racing. In light of rumours suggesting an exit clause, Horner expressed his firm belief in Verstappen's commitment to the team until 2028.

Key Takeaways:

  • Christian Horner remains optimistic about Max Verstappen's future at Red Bull, amidst swirling exit rumours.
  • Jos Verstappen, Max's father, has hinted at possible discontent within the team, raising questions about the future.
  • Despite internal investigations clearing Horner of misconduct, tensions and speculations persist regarding team dynamics.

Red Bull Press Image

Red Bull team chief Christian Horner has made a strong statement regarding Max Verstappen's future with the team. Speaking ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Horner expressed his certainty that Verstappen, a three-time world champion, would fulfil his contract with Red Bull, which extends until 2028. He highlighted the strong bond and mutual trust between Verstappen and the team, underlining their shared achievements and aspirations for further success. He explained:

"I'm certain that he will.

"He's got a great team around him, he's got great faith in that team, and we have achieved an awful lot together.

"He's committed to an agreement to 2028 and from the team side, from Max's side, we're determined to build on the success we've achieved already."

This assertion comes against a backdrop of rumours and reported tensions within Red Bull Racing. Jos Verstappen, Max's father and a significant figure in his career, has been vocal about his concerns regarding the team's atmosphere under Horner's leadership. These concerns have led to widespread speculation about Verstappen's continued commitment to Red Bull, amidst suggestions of a possible shift to a rival team, such as Mercedes.

Further complicating the narrative, The Telegraph has hinted at the possibility of Verstappen making a dramatic move to Mercedes, fuelled by the strained relationship between Jos Verstappen and Horner. This scenario, though speculative, has added a layer of intrigue to the ongoing discourse about team dynamics and leadership within Red Bull Racing.

The team has conducted an independent inquiry into the allegations against Horner, which concluded with no findings of wrongdoing. Despite these challenges, Horner has maintained focus on his responsibilities within the team.

It was confirmed earlier today that the person who accused Christian Horner of misconduct has been suspended with full pay. This action followed a thorough inquiry conducted by Red Bull's parent company in Austria, which ultimately cleared Horner of the allegations. This decision has since stirred widespread discussions within the Formula One community, particularly with Horner's steadfast assertion of innocence.

Horner was asked about the employee being suspended during the team press conference ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, to which he responded:

"I can't comment on anything that's confidential between the employee and the company."

Red Bull Racing has opted for discretion, emphasising the internal nature of the issue and refraining from public discussions.

The situation gained significant attention following the clearance of Horner's name and the subsequent suspension of the accuser, who has been granted a limited period to challenge the findings of the investigation.

Red Bull GmbH issued a statement ensuring the fairness and impartiality of the investigation, highlighting their commitment to upholding high standards of workplace conduct. The statement reaffirmed the conclusion of the investigation and the rights of the involved parties, stressing the confidentiality of the investigative report to protect the privacy of all individuals involved.

F1 News: Christian Horner Responds To Jos Verstappen's Damning Comments

Thu, 03/07/2024 - 10:05am

Christian Horner addressed Jos Verstappen's critical remarks during the Team Press Conference ahead of the Saudi Arabian GP, emphasising the team's future-focused approach. The Red Bull Team Principal highlighted ongoing discussions and the collective aim to defend their world titles.

Key Takeaways:

  • Jos Verstappen has raised concerns about the impact of Christian Horner's leadership on Red Bull Racing's harmony.
  • Despite the accusations against Horner, there has been no formal investigation by the FIA due to the absence of an official complaint.
  • Red Bull's internal investigation cleared Horner of any wrongdoing, amidst allegations and leaked messages causing controversy within the team.
Red Bull Content Pool

Jos Verstappen, father of Max Verstappen, made comments following the Bahrain GP concerning the stability and unity of Red Bull Racing under Christian Horner's stewardship. The situation has cast a shadow over the team's preparations for the upcoming races, with allegations of misconduct against Horner at the centre of the dispute. Despite these challenges, Horner remains undeterred, focusing on the team's objectives and the defence of their world titles.

During a team press conference before the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Horner made it clear that the team had engaged in discussions following the events at the Bahrain Grand Prix. He emphasised the collective ambition to move forward and concentrate on the future, underscoring the importance of team unity and focus on defending their championships. He explained:

"I'm obviously aware of the comments that were made.

"There was a discussion subsequent to the race and I think everybody's focus is very much on the future.

"The team's focus is very much on defending both of these these world titles we have fought so hard to achieve.

"Our focus is very much on the future and, as I say, discussions took place following the race in Bahrain and we are all looking forward."

Jos Verstappen commented after the Bahrain Grand Prix:

“There is tension here while he remains in position.

“The team is in danger of being torn apart. It can't go on the way it is. It will explode. He is playing the victim, when he is the one causing the problems.”

Red Bull conducted its own independent investigation into the allegations against Horner, which concluded with no findings of misconduct. This outcome has not entirely dissipated the tension, as alleged leaked information and claims continue to circulate, fuelling further speculation and concern within the F1 community.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem has publicly expressed his disappointment over the controversy overshadowing the sport's appeal and the excitement of the new season. He called for a shift in focus towards the competition and the enjoyment it brings, while also acknowledging the FIA's current stance of non-intervention due to the absence of a formal complaint.

F1 News: Car Upgrades Revealed For Saudi Arabian Grand Prix - Nothing For Alpine

Thu, 03/07/2024 - 10:03am

Red Bull, Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren, Visa Cash App RB, Williams, and Aston Martin have all announced technical upgrades to their cars for the high-speed demands of the Jeddah circuit, focusing on improving aerodynamic efficiency and cooling performance.

These adjustments include modifications to rear wings, engine covers, beam wings, and other components to balance drag reduction with sufficient downforce and cooling efficiency for optimal performance.

It's worth noting that, despite a surprising lack of performance last weekend, Alpine has not brought any upgrades to Jeddah. Neither have Haas or Sauber.

  • Aerodynamic Efficiency: Teams have adjusted rear wings, beam wings, and other aerodynamic surfaces to reduce drag and maintain downforce, crucial for Jeddah's high-speed straights and fast corners.
  • Cooling Efficiency: Modifications to engine covers, cooling louvres, and brake duct exits aim to optimize thermal management in the hot Saudi Arabian climate, ensuring power units and brakes operate within ideal temperature ranges.
  • Circuit-Specific Adaptations: Each team has tailored their car updates to meet the unique demands of the Jeddah circuit, balancing the need for straight-line speed with the agility to navigate fast corners efficiently.
Red Bull

Coke/Engine Cover

  • The team has optimised the cooling range by refining the engine cover. The bodywork panel forming a suspension aperture and cooling exit has been reduced in size, which is particularly suited to Jeddah's average speed and absence of slow-speed corners. This allows the power unit to operate within its limits while ensuring effective cooling.

Rear Wing

  • In response to the circuit's drag range requirements, the rear wing assembly has been given a lower camber. This design change results in less aerodynamic load and drag at high speeds, making it more efficient for the Jeddah circuit than the design used in Bahrain. This tweak is intended to balance the power unit's output against the drag, particularly at higher speeds.

Beam Wing

  • Focused on the same goal of lowering drag levels for the high-speed Jeddah track, the beam wing has been adjusted with a reduced camber. This alteration serves to maintain optimal balance and aerodynamic efficiency at various speeds.
Mercedes

Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team has unveiled their technical adjustments to the W15 to adapt to the high-speed track.

Rear Corner

  • Mercedes has focused on improving the local load performance by modifying the rear corner of the W15. The geometric change involves lowering the deflector rotation. This refinement reduces the loading on the forward element, enhancing the robustness of the lower deflector across various ride heights. This subtle yet effective tweak is expected to deliver improved stability and handling throughout the ride height range, a critical factor on the flowing and fast-paced Jeddah track.
Ferrari

Here's what has been enhanced on the SF24:

Rear Wing

  • Ferrari has adapted the rear wing from the 2023 car, specifically tuned for the Jeddah circuit's low downforce requirements. The team has introduced a lower downforce top rear wing design to suit the track's high-speed straights and fast corners. This update is aimed at achieving a balance between drag reduction and maintaining enough downforce to navigate Jeddah's unique layout efficiently.

Beam Wing

  • Alongside the rear wing, the beam wing has undergone modifications to de-power the lower beam. Ferrari has prepared two variations to ensure they can select the optimal setup depending on the final aerodynamic efficiency requirements dictated by the Jeddah track's characteristics. This includes an arrangement that features a single element, all aimed at maximising performance around the peculiarities of the circuit's layout.
McLaren

Once again, McLaren is focusing on the reduction of drag in preparation for the high-speed demands of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

Rear Wing

  • A new rear wing assembly has been crafted to provide lower drag, featuring an offloaded Main plane and Flap design. This modification is set to yield a more efficient reduction of both downforce and drag, a crucial adjustment for the high-speed straights at Jeddah. The team's engineers have balanced the need for straight-line speed with maintaining sufficient downforce for the circuit's corners.

Beam Wing

  • The beam wing has been reconfigured with a new geometry, including a new upper and lower Beam wing Element. This design change works in tandem with the updated rear wing assembly to further enhance the aerodynamic efficiency of the car. The result is a coherent update that harmonizes the reduction of downforce and drag, aligning with the circuit-specific demands.
Visa Cash App RB

Visa Cash App RB F1 Team has rolled out a set of component upgrades to their vehicle, focusing on performance flow conditioning and cooling efficiency for the high demands of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

Coke/Engine Cover

  • The team has re-engineered the coke/engine cover from the original Race 01 design, altering the shape and slope of the top deck. This improves the flow quality passing over the bodywork, which is crucial for the aerodynamic performance at the high-speed sections of the Jeddah circuit.

Cooling Louvres

  • Cooling efficiency is crucial in the hot Saudi Arabian climate, and the team has responded by adding cooling louvres on the top deck of the bodywork to enhance the cooling range. This optional feature increases airflow through the radiators, ensuring the car's power unit operates within optimal temperature ranges.

Front Wing

  • To adjust the balance range for lower rear wing levels, the front wing flap chord trim has been modified. This optional update allows the team to reduce the front wing load by decreasing the loaded area of the flap, which can be crucial for fine-tuning the car's balance to the circuit's specific conditions.

Rear Wing

  • Additionally, the rear wing has been adapted to further optimise the drag range. By reducing the camber and incidence, the rear wing's load and drag are minimised. This optional adjustment helps to achieve a better balance between downforce and drag, aligning with the high-speed demands of the Jeddah track.
Williams

Williams Racing heads into the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix with tailored modifications to the FW46, focusing on optimising the car's drag range and cooling efficiency.

Beam Wing

  • In an effort to refine the drag profile, Williams has implemented a trim to the trailing edge of the beam wing to reduce the chord length. This alteration aims to decrease both the downforce and drag of the rear wing assembly, delivering a level of performance that is optimised for the high-speed requirements of the Jeddah circuit.

Front Corner

  • A smaller exit for the front brake duct is another specific change introduced by Williams. This design modification not only reduces the exit area compared to the version used in Bahrain but also adjusts the cooling flow rate through the front brake system. The result is a more controlled brake temperature, ensuring the brakes operate within an ideal range that matches the thermal demands of the Jeddah track.
Aston Martin

Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant F1 Team comes in with a focus on optimising performance flow conditioning and drag range in preparation for the high-speed Jeddah circuit.

Front Corner

  • Aston Martin has introduced a revised scoop shape in the front corner of the car, coupled with modified inlet and exit changes. The revised geometry is designed to alter the flow around the tire and improve the wake shape, thereby reducing the aerodynamic impact on downstream parts of the car. This update is targeted at enhancing the performance by managing the air flow more effectively around the tires and the front of the car.

Rear Wing

  • A re-designed rear wing assembly with less aggressive cascading elements has been rolled out, featuring two different flap options. This is part of a broader development strategy aiming to provide a wing that operates with less load, reducing drag without compromising the downforce required for the unique demands of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix circuit.

F1 News: Lewis Hamilton Down - "Thought We'd Be Closer"

Thu, 03/07/2024 - 9:32am

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton was under the impression that the 2024 W15 F1 car would help him finish closer to the Red Bulls at the front. However, with a P7 finish in the Bahrain Grand Prix, he suggested that the team has a lot more "work to do" to fight the pack in the front of the grid.

Key Takeaways:

  • Lewis Hamilton expressed disappointment as the new W15 F1 car didn't deliver the expected performance, finishing seventh in Bahrain, far from the front-running Red Bulls.
  • Hamilton faced issues like a cooling problem and a broken seat, starting from ninth due to a challenging qualifying session.
  • Reflecting on the race, Hamilton acknowledged Mercedes' need for improvement, noting the competitiveness of rivals McLaren and Aston Martin, and emphasizing the team has "a lot of work to do."

However, the seven-time world champion ran into a series of issues starting with a cooling problem on the car, in addition to a broken seat. The P9 start on the grid, due to a disappointing qualifying session added to the disadvantage.

Looking back at race day, Hamilton compares his finish with last year's results. He told Formula1.com:

“No definitely wasn’t ideal today [or] this weekend.

“We thought we were going to be closer, but clearly not, so to be kind of the same, if not… actually I can’t remember where we finished last year, I think it was fourth and fifth.

“I think if I’d qualified better, I think that’s probably where we would have finished today, or at least fifth and sixth probably, but not much more to it.”

When asked if the team had advanced further with the performance of the 2024 car, he added:

“I definitely think we’ve got a… I need to go and look and see.

“The others look quick and it looked very close between us and McLaren and Aston [Martin], so I think we’ve got a lot of work to do.

“It was a pretty average race as you can see, but I gave it everything and I feel good within myself.”

Red Bull Content Pool

As the Bahrain Grand Prix neared its conclusion, the Japanese driver, equipped with hard tires, became frustrated when his team requested him to exchange his P13 position with teammate Ricciardo, who was racing on soft tires.

He let Ricciardo pass but indicated his dissatisfaction with the team's decision by conducting a near-collision maneuver against his teammate during the cooldown lap. Though Ricciardo called out Tsunoda for displaying his "immaturity", Marko emphasized that the "theatre" was avoidable.

Marko also explained to Tsunoda that with the right strategy, he could have achieved P10. He told OE24:

“The theatre could have been avoided.

“I spoke to Yuki afterwards. With the right strategy, he could have finished 10th.”

However, giving up the position to Ricciardo caused Tsunoda to finish in P14, four positions lower than what Marko claimed was achievable.

However, Marko was all praises for VCARB senior team Red Bull, whose drivers Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez finished 1-2. However, when Marko was confronted with  a prediction made by VCARB's former team principal, Franz Tost, that Red Bull would win all races in 2024, the Red Bull advisor disagreed by saying:

“Ah, go. We saw last year that can’t work.

“You’re sensational on the track and then comes Singapore, where we have no chance.

“The most important thing is the World Championship title.”

Both W15s weren't exactly up to pace as the might they revealed during Bahrain's Free Practice. Jeddah is one circuit that could offer some hope to Mercedes, as it is the track where Hamilton won his last race in 2021. Striving to do better, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff revealed that the team aims to unleash the car's true potential in Saudi Arabia. Speaking to the media, he said:

“Our race in Bahrain was best described as underwhelming. We were hopeful of a stronger showing after our performance in practice and qualifying.

“Both drivers were pleased with the balance earlier in the weekend, and the more stable platform provided by the W15.

“Unfortunately on Saturday evening, our cooling performance didn't match our predictions. That forced us into management mode early on, which had the knock-on impact of reducing tyre temperatures below optimum.

“That cost us the opportunity to show something closer to our true potential. It was a frustrating way to start the season but one we will learn from.

“We've got an opportunity to take a step forward immediately. Jeddah is a street track with a lot of high-speed content.

“It will be good to continue our learning with the new car on a very different circuit to Bahrain. We will be aiming for a more consistent weekend and to understand our true performance relative to the rest of the grid.”

Red Bull Content Pool

The Formula One community has been swamped with the news of Christian Horner, the Red Bull team's leading figure, being accused of inappropriate behaviour. The saga took a new turn as the accuser was suspended post-investigation with full pay, with the suspension being effective from the time she reported back to work in Milton Keynes. This development marks a significant chapter in the controversy that has enveloped the Red Bull team and cast a shadow over its reputation.

Red Bull Racing has chosen to maintain a veil of confidentiality over the matter, emphasising its internal nature and refraining from public commentary.

Despite the allegations, Horner has remained steadfast in his position, confidently asserting his continuation as the team's principal. His upcoming appearance at an FIA press conference in Saudi Arabia is highly anticipated, where he is expected to address the media spotlight post-clearance of his name and after the leak of alleged evidence last week.

The resolution of the investigation leaves room for further action, with the accuser being allotted a limited timeframe to appeal the decision. This stipulation introduces an element of uncertainty to the resolution of the case, which has already stirred considerable attention and debate within the F1 community and beyond.

The statement from Red Bull GmbH underscores the fairness, rigor, and neutrality of the investigative process, reaffirming the organisation's dedication to maintaining the highest standards of conduct in the workplace. The statement read last Wednesday:

"The independent investigation into the allegations made against Mr Horner is complete, and Red Bull can confirm that the grievance has been dismissed.

"The complainant has a right of appeal.

"Red Bull is confident that the investigation has been fair, rigorous and impartial.

"The investigation report is confidential and contains the private information of the parties and third parties who assisted in the investigation, and therefore we will not be commenting further out of respect for all concerned. Red Bull will continue striving to meet the highest workplace standards."
