Remember Getting Your Ears Pierced at Claire’s? The Experience Is Getting a Major Makeover

Thu, 09/10/2026 - 9:55am

For many (including my 46-year-old self), getting your ears pierced at Claire’s is a rite of passage. I visited Claire’s at my local mall as a child and again in my teens for ear piercings, and have headed to Claire’s with my daughter three different times for each of hers. And I’m not alone: Claire’s says it’s been piercing for nearly five decades and has performed more than 131 million piercings to date.

Starting in Sept. 2026, Claire’s is rolling out some big changes to its piercing program, making what the brand called one of its “most significant operational investments in the past several decades.” The changes will begin rolling out this month at all of Claire’s 900 stores in the U.S. and Canada, and will affect every aspect of the piercing experience from the time customers enter the store until they’re ready to check out.

Your Claire’s Piercing Station Won’t Look Quite the Same

Guests at newly-designed Claire’s locations will notice a completely different look to the store’s piercing area. The updated space features elevated piercing stations, an interactive Inspiration Bar for building the perfect ear stack, and a selfie station, perfect for sharing with your social media followers that you just got your ears pierced. The  brand says every aspect of the experience was re-designed with the help of Gen Alpha (kids born between 2010 and 2024), their moms, and Claire’s piercing specialists.

In addition to a new aesthetic at the piercing area, Claire’s will refresh employee uniforms, aftercare guides, piercing certificates, and more, giving everything in the area a more modern appearance. And, you might notice that the store’s iconic purple shade has gotten a pastel upgrade to a light purple color. The program even comes with an all-new tagline: “I Got Pierced at Claire’s.”

Get Ready for More Jewelry Options

Claire’s describes its updated collection of piercing studs as “expansive.” Promising to carry single studs, lab-grown diamonds, and on-trend stud designs at every price point, the brand will continue to offer free ear piercing and aftercare materials with the purchase of an ear piercing kit, which will start at $29.99.

Safety Is Getting a Major Upgrade

Piercing stations at Claire’s stores will also get a safety upgrade. The brand says at the heart of the program is the concept that “piercing is a responsibility, not just a service.” Under the new clinical training program, all employees who pierce will complete an enhanced curriculum that blends hands-on instruction, digital learning, guided practice, ongoing assessments, and re-certification. Piercers will be trained in consultation, sterile stud selection, earring placement mapping, hand-pressurized piercing techniques using FDA-registered medical devices, aftercare education, and customer experience.

Claire’s is requiring piercers to undergo an updated training program and become re-certified as part of the new launch.

Claire's

To help ensure the brand’s new standards are implemented consistently, Claire’s has created the Piercing Excellence Team, a group of professional instructors with more than 140 combined years of piercing experience. The team will travel to Claire’s locations around the country to help with training and make sure piercings are being performed consistently across the brand.

The New Claire’s Experience Starts This September

This new piercing experience at Claire’s is rolling out now around the U.S. and in Canada. While stores typically accept walk-ins, it’s always a good idea to visit Claires.com in advance to schedule an ear piercing appointment.

“For decades, families have trusted Claire’s with one of life’s most memorable milestones, and after listening to customers, we saw a clear opportunity to raise our standards even higher,” said Carey Brezler, Claire’s vice president of retail operations in a press release. “Working alongside leading industry experts, we built our Piercing Excellence Team to lead ongoing education and re-certification across our stores. We introduced enhanced clinical training, FDA‑registered medical devices, and elevated safety protocols to ensure safe, precise, and confidence-inspiring piercings for every customer who sits in our chair.”

Here’s Exactly What Happens to Your Liver When You Drink Coffee Every Day

Thu, 09/10/2026 - 9:50am

When it comes to reducing your risk of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD, formerly known as fatty liver disease), every beverage can seem like a vice. Soda? Definitely not recommended to drink regularly. Alcohol? Absolutely not. Iced tea? Only if it isn’t sweetened.

The one beloved beverage that seems to get a free pass is coffee. “Research consistently links coffee consumption with better liver health and a lower risk of several chronic liver conditions,” says Ava Ajlouny, RD, a registered dietitian with Health Loft.

To her point, a scientific article published in the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hepatology states that drinking coffee is associated with improved liver enzymes and can even help lower incidences of fibrosis and cirrhosis.

How exactly does drinking coffee support liver health, and can drinking a cup of it every morning help lower the risk of MASLD? Here’s everything you need to know, according to registered dietitians.

🩺SIGN UP for tips to stay healthy & fit with the top moves, clean eats, health trends & more delivered right to your inbox twice a week💊

How Daily Coffee Consumption Affects Your Liver Health

In general, all three registered dietitians we talked to say that daily coffee consumption positively impacts liver health. “Coffee can be a beneficial addition to an overall healthy lifestyle, and research suggests it may offer specific benefits for liver health,” Ajlouny says.

Sarah Glinski, RD, a registered dietitian specializing in gut health and owner of Gut-Friendly Nutrition in British Columbia, Canada, points to scientific research backing this up, highlighting a recent study taking into account hundreds of thousands of people and showing that coffee was linked with lower risks of cirrhosis, liver cancer and liver-related death.

“Specifically, people who drank five or more cups of coffee daily had a 32% lower risk of cirrhosis, a 47% lower risk of liver cancer and a 42% lower risk of any kind of liver-related death,” she says.

Glinski says that MRI scans from the study showed that coffee drinkers had lower levels of fat and inflammation in their liver—two factors that are associated with an increased risk of liver disease. She adds that the health benefits for liver health were true for both caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee.

While research shows the positive impact drinking coffee can have on liver health, Ajlouny emphasizes that coffee isn’t some sort of magic fix or cure-all. It works best as part of an overall healthy diet and lifestyle, which should include a balanced diet, regular physical activity, maintaining a healthy weight, limiting excess alcohol and managing metabolic health. “If someone already enjoys coffee, there’s good reason to feel confident that it can be part of a routine that supports liver health,” she tells Parade.

Can Coffee Reduce the Risk of Fatty Liver Disease?

While coffee certainly seems to benefit liver health, is it powerful enough to reduce the risk of MASLD, formally known as fatty liver disease? The answer is: kind of. “While coffee has been linked to a lower risk of serious liver problems associated with MASLD, such as liver scarring and cirrhosis, this does not necessarily mean that coffee prevents MASLD itself,” says registered dietitian Annie Guinane, RD.

That said, Guinane explains that drinking coffee regularly has been associated with a lower risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes, which are risk factors for MASLD.

Gilinski agrees.

“Some research suggests that drinking coffee may reduce the risk of MASLD, particularly in people who already have type 2 diabetes. This may be because coffee is linked with less weight gain over time. Other research suggests that while coffee may not prevent the development of MASLD, it may prevent its progression to advanced liver fibrosis,” she tells Parade.

That means that while drinking coffee may not lower the risk of MASLD directly, it could indirectly reduce the risk.

Antioxidants in Coffee Protecting Liver Cells From Damage

As Glinski previously shared, both caffeinated and decaf coffee are scientifically linked to supporting liver health. So if it’s not the caffeine that’s so beneficial, what is? It’s the antioxidants.

Ajlouny explains that coffee contains several bioactive compounds, including chlorogenic acids and other polyphenols, that have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. “These compounds may help reduce oxidative stress and inflammation, two processes involved in the development and progression of liver disease,” she says.

Guinane echoes this, adding that the antioxidants may also help reduce liver scarring and support the liver’s natural ability to repair itself.

How Much Coffee Should You Drink Daily for Maximum Liver Benefits?

Learning about the positive impact coffee can have on liver health may have you wondering just how much you need to drink to reap the benefits. Guinane emphasizes that more doesn’t necessarily mean better. “Don’t feel like you need to reach a specific number of cups or go from zero cups of coffee a day to five. Even just one to two cups of coffee a day has proven benefits,” she says.

She adds that some people have a higher caffeine tolerance than others. If drinking coffee is giving you anxiety, making your heart race, upsetting your stomach or is interfering with your sleep, these negative effects are outweighing the potential benefits. Remember, decaf coffee has the same benefits as caffeinated coffee.

Black Coffee vs. Sugary Coffee Drinks: What’s Best for Liver Health?

A caramel macchiato or mocha latte isn’t going to benefit your liver as much as a black cup of coffee. “The type of coffee beverage really matters. A plain cup of coffee and a large, heavily sweetened coffee drink are nutritionally very different,” Ajlouny stresses.

In fact, sweetened coffee drinks can actually harm the liver, completely negating the health benefits of the coffee. “Regularly consuming coffee beverages high in added sugar can contribute to excess calorie intake, weight gain and metabolic dysfunction, all of which increase the risk of liver fat accumulation and MASLD,” she says.

While enjoying a sweetened coffee drink occasionally is completely fine, Ajlouny explains that it’s when it becomes a daily habit that it can start to negatively impact the liver.

If you drink coffee in the morning—whether it’s caffeinated or not—you’re already starting the day by doing something good for your liver. It just may inspire you to keep the momentum going and make healthy choices all day long.

Last Surviving Original Member of Iconic ’70s Band Three Dog Night Turns 84

Thu, 09/10/2026 - 9:42am

In 1967, Danny Hutton had an idea: build a group around three lead singers rather than the more conventional setup of one frontman.

Nearly six decades later, Hutton is the last surviving member of the original vocal trio that became Three Dog Night, and on Thursday, Sept. 10, the rock legend turns 84.

Hutton, Chuck Negron and Cory Wells formed the core of Three Dog Night, which went on to become one of the biggest hitmakers of the late 1960s and early ’70s. Wells died in 2015 at age 74, while Negron died on Feb. 2, 2026, at 83, leaving Hutton as the last surviving member of the band’s original trio.

Born in Ireland on Sept. 10, 1942, Hutton moved to the United States as a child and eventually landed in Los Angeles. Before Three Dog Night, he recorded for Hanna-Barbera Records, scoring a modest Billboard Hot 100 hit with “Roses and Rainbows” in 1965.

But his place in rock history would come with Three Dog Night.

Between 1969 and 1975, the band scored 21 Billboard Hot 100 Top 40 hits, including 11 Top 10s. Three songs reached No. 1: “Mama Told Me (Not to Come),” “Joy to the World” and “Black and White.” Hutton sang lead on the latter, as well as the Top 10 hit “Liar.”

Three Dog Night also became known for recognizing great songs from outside writers, helping bring wider attention to material by Randy Newman, Harry Nilsson, Hoyt Axton, Laura Nyro and others.

Speaking with the Dayton Daily News in July 2026, Hutton explained the remarkably simple philosophy behind the band’s choices.

“Everything is about the song,” he said, adding that great musicianship alone isn’t enough if listeners don’t leave with something they can remember or hum.

“We just thought, ‘pure music, serve the song.’”

That approach helped produce a run of music that remains familiar more than half a century later. As Hutton put it in the same interview, “Good music, music about emotions, about love, never really go out of fashion.”

Hutton’s rock history extends well beyond Three Dog Night. He became close friends with Beach Boys mastermind Brian Wilson, whom Hutton described as a mentor, and was even one of the groomsmen at Wilson’s wedding to Melinda Kae Ledbetter in 1995; she and Wilson were married until her death in 2024.

Years earlier, Hutton also had an extraordinary front-row seat to one of Wilson’s masterpieces.

Hutton recalled Wilson inviting him to a recording session where he watched the producer construct an instrumental track without knowing what song he was hearing. Hutton later discovered that the music he had witnessed being created was “God Only Knows.”

“So, I was there when they made it,” Hutton remembered.

Three Dog Night’s original hitmaking run eventually ended, but Hutton returned when the group reunited in the early 1980s. Today, at 84, he continues to lead Three Dog Night and carry forward the songs that made the band one of the defining hitmakers of its era.

'NCIS' Teases Michael Weatherly’s Return as Tony DiNozzo for Major Season 24 Arc

Thu, 09/10/2026 - 9:35am

Michael Weatherly is heading back to NCIS, and Tony DiNozzo’s latest visit to his former team will turn into something much bigger.

Weatherly will return for a season-long arc in season 24, beginning with the Oct. 6 premiere. Tony heads to Washington, D.C., while expanding his thriving security business after the events of the Paramount+ spinoff NCIS: Tony & Ziva.

In an interview with TV Insider, executive producer Steven D. Binder teased what happens when Tony reconnects with his former team.

“While trying to drum up new clients for his upstart satellite office, an old contact of Tony’s picks up some chatter involving NCIS. Tony is, of course, intrigued and decides to pay his old friends a surprise visit,” Binder teased. “Unfortunately, the reunion quickly goes sideways, and Tony finds himself in the middle of a five-alarm fire.”

Tony’s role in resolving that crisis catches the attention of Pentagon officials, who decide they could use more of DiNozzo. The opportunity arrives at the right time, since Tony already has personal reasons for remaining in the area.

Binder explained, “Luckily, since Tony was planning on staying in D.C. to be closer to his daughter, he’s more than happy to oblige.”

The new connection with the Pentagon helps set up Weatherly’s season-long arc following his initial reunion with the NCIS team.

Tony and Ziva ended NCIS: Tony & Ziva back together with the approval of their daughter, Tali. But while Tony spends time in Washington, Ziva is staying closer to their daughter.

“In our universe, Tali is now a few hours away in boarding school, and Ziva is there with her,” Binder stated. “Whether or not her path will cross with our agents in D.C. is still an ongoing question — but rest assured, her presence will definitely be felt!”

Cote de Pablo has not been announced for an appearance on NCIS season 24. For now, the storyline allows Tony to remain in Washington while Ziva stays near Tali, leaving open the question of whether the characters could eventually cross paths again.

Weatherly’s extended return begins when NCIS premieres Tuesday, Oct. 6, on CBS.

1986 Romantic Movie, Filmed in Canada, Launched a 21-Year-Old's Career

Thu, 09/10/2026 - 9:30am

Children of a Lesser God, the 1986 romantic movie starring then-21-year-old Marlee Matlin, emerged as one of the most critically acclaimed films of its era, earning major recognition that continues to resonate decades later.

The Randa Haines-directed film was among the movies that Rotten Tomatoes named to its list of The Best 1986 Movies.

Celebrating the timelessness and influence of these standout films, the ranking was based on the website’s Tomatometer score, which measures the percentage of positive reviews from critics.

Children of a Lesser God claimed the No. 44 spot with an 81 percent Tomatometer rating.

According to the outlet, the critics’ consensus, which represents the overall opinion of professional film critics, mentioned how the film “transcends its transparently noble goals thanks to a pair of absorbing performances from William Hurt and Marlee Matlin.”

Based on the 1979 play by Mark Medoff, the film centers on the passionate yet complicated romance between James Leeds (William Hurt), a new speech teacher at the school for the deaf who works with the students to help them develop their speech and lip-reading skills.

At the school, he meets deaf former student Sarah Norman (Marlee Matlin), who now works as a school custodian.

She refuses to vocalize and strictly communicates through sign language.

The unexpected romance blossomed into a meaningful relationship, despite their struggle to bridge the communication barrier.

Children of a Lesser God highlights the importance of cultural respect and acceptance while exploring the ideological divide between the hearing and Deaf worlds.

Although the setting was in New England for the fictional Governor Kittridge School for the Deaf, the movie was originally filmed in New Brunswick, Canada, with The Rothesay Netherwood School serving as the primary location.

The production took place in fall 1985, making the film’s backdrop and scenery particularly striking, according to The Movie Buff.

With a domestic gross of nearly $32 million, as cited by Box Office Mojo, Children of a Lesser God was not only a box office success in 1986 but also earned multiple nominations and wins at major awards.

While the movie was Marlee Matlin’s on-screen acting debut, she also took home her first Golden Globe win after winning Best Actress in a Motion Picture- Drama.

Adding to the list was her first Oscar win for Best Actress, making her the youngest winner of the award at age 21.

Before Matlin, the then-22-year-old Janet Gaynor was the youngest Best Actress winner at the first Academy Awards in 1929, becoming the inaugural recipient of the honor.

Princess Diana's 'Revenge Dress' to Hit Auction Block

Thu, 09/10/2026 - 9:29am

Princess Diana’s iconic gown dubbed the “Revenge Dress” is hitting the auction block.

This December, Sotheby’s London is bringing the late princess’s “little black dress” to auction. Commissioned in 1991, the daring black silk dress sat untouched in Diana’s closet for nearly three years.

The fashion icon made headlines when she stepped out to a Vanity Fair fundraising dinner at the Serpentine Gallery in Kensington Gardens, London, in the black silk gown on June 29, 1994, the same evening Prince Charles admitted to having an affair during their marriage.

The Christina Stambolian gown of black silk crepe with a criss-crossing pleated bodice and an off-the-shoulder neckline will make its rounds at Sotheby’s galleries around the world beginning with London on September 18 before ultimately arriving in New York on December 2—one week before the auction.

“What makes this dress extraordinary is not merely that it was worn by the princess, not that its appearance at the Serpentine event made headlines around the world. It is what it communicated,” Morgan Halimi, Sotheby’s Global Head of Handbags and Fashion, said in the press release. “On her own terms, Princess Diana turned the dress into one of the most powerful messages she ever made, during one of the most scrutinized and emotionally charged episodes of her life.”

The garment was last auctioned in June 1997, two months before Diana’s tragic passing, as part of a catalog of 79 of her dresses sold to raise funds for cancer and AIDS charities.

The dress is expected to sell between $150,000 and $300,000, with the proceeds being donated to NHS Lothian Charity on behalf of the Royal Edinburgh Hospital.

2000s Rock Band, Signed By System of a Down's Vocalist, Broke Up With No Announcement After Scoring a Top 20 Hit

Thu, 09/10/2026 - 9:26am

Imagine achieving your lifelong dreams and then vanishing without a trace.

Darroh Sudderth, lead singer of former band Fair to Midland, is hard to track down to this day.

Known for his incredible range of glass-breaking falsettos to frog-throated growls, he led the band to short-lived mainstream success with the hit “Dance of the Manatee”—a melodic oddity said to tell the tale of persecuted prostitutes, known as the ‘Marys.’

The 2007 song was commonly played by rock stations, capturing a cult following as the unique arrangement bore little resemblance to other hits of that era.

But before “Dance of the Manatee” put Fair to Midland on rock radio, they caught the attention of one of rock ‘n’ roll’s biggest names at that time.

During one of the band’s West Coast runs, a friend of System of a Down vocalist Serj Tankian passed their music along to him and convinced him to catch the Sulphur Springs, Texas rockers live.

Related: 2000s Rock Hit, Written While ‘Naked’ and Sick, Remains a Classic 20 Years Later

Tankian was so impressed that after seeing them perform twice, he offered to help, ultimately signing Fair to Midland to his Serjical Strike Records label in 2006.

“It’s not often that one comes across bands that are truly original, poetic, progressive, artsy and memorable, compounded by a killer live performance. FTM is such a band,” Tankian said that year.

With Tankian’s tutelage, previously released “Dance of the Manatee” was rerecorded and a hit was born, reaching No. 19 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart just one year later.

This would be Fair to Midland’s only Top 20 hit. The band did release another album, Arrows & Anchors, in 2011 before calling it quits—one that is still a mystery for frontman Sudderth, who was spotted by Reddit sleuths playing bass with another band and later reportedly managed a School of Rock location in Fort Worth, according to a former student.

Despite a cult following that has spent more than a decade holding out hope for a reunion, Fair to Midland has never publicly announced plans to get the band back together.

In fact, the group never formally announced its breakup either, leaving fans with little more than radio silence since the members quietly went their separate ways.

“Dance of the Manatee” has garnered more than 2 million views on Fair to Midland’s YouTube page with fans still leaving comments despite no new music in 15 years.

“Dance of the Manatee,” “Rikki Tikki Tavi” and “Musical Chairs” still hold up as their heavier cuts, worthy of a spot on any workout playlist.

Dolly Parton's Sister Stella Reveals Who Hasn't Reached Out With Condolences in Jaw-Dropping Interview

Thu, 09/10/2026 - 9:24am

In a wide-ranging interview with CBS Mornings’ Gayle King that aired on Thursday, September 10, Dolly Parton‘s younger sister, Stella, dropped several surprising details about her famous sister, who died at age 80 on August 25, and the public’s response.

While there’s been an outpouring of love and sympathy from fans and famous friends since Dolly’s death, Stella, 77, revealed that she has not heard from anyone in the country music capital.

“I haven’t heard from anybody in Nashville since my sister passed away,” Stella told King. Jaw dropped, King replied, “What do you mean, Stella?”

View this post on Instagram

Stella, a singer like her sister who scored several country hits in the ’70s and ’80s and released her first album in seven years this past June, told King, “I haven’t had one condolence from anyone, anybody that I know, entertainers that I know. Nobody. Not one.”

King responded, “Not one? How do you explain — I’m stunned to hear that,” and Stella interjected, “I’m assuming it might be because my political, you know, activism on social media. I don’t know.”

Though Dolly kept her political views close to the vest, Stella has been outspoken against the Trump administration, including tweeting on August 14, “The incompetence and egotism in this rogue administration has us teetering on the edge of disaster everyday! Congress and the SCOTUS are doing nothing as if they all have taken a vow of silence as they crash and burn it to the ground.”

When King noted that Dolly “famously kept her political opinions private,” Stella quipped, “She had them.” But when King pressed her for details, she laughed, “I’m not telling! But she had them.”

Stella then quipped, “She was smarter than me! You know, I tell everything. I like everybody knowing what I think about it.”

But her big sister, she said, “was a good businesswoman.” She also said she wanted everyone to remember Dolly as “very sweet, kind, loving, brilliant, brilliant, and so talented. Her creativity had no bounds, you know, and she could dream bigger than anybody. And I want young people, youn girls and boys that may think they have no opportunity to dream (to know) coming from our situation, she gave us permission to dream that way.”

Iconic New Jersey Theme Park to Close Permanently Five Years After Reopening

Thu, 09/10/2026 - 9:14am

After more than a century in business, Clementon Park has closed its doors and is up for sale. The beloved 119-year-old New Jersey amusement park has abruptly shut down, marking the end of an era for Philadelphia and South Jersey families.

Clementon Park and Splash World, located in Camden County, South Jersey, announced on September 9 that it made the “difficult decision” to close at the conclusion of the 2026 season. This closure is the park’s second major closure in seven years. The final day of operation was September 8.

The announcement was made via a statement on the company’s website. “After five memorable years, we are saddened to announce that we have made the difficult decision to close the park and plan to offer the park for sale,” the statement reads in part. “It has been a privilege to care for a place that has meant so much to generations of families. We are hopeful that we will find a buyer who shares our love for Clementon Park and will carry its history and legacy forward.”

It’s unclear what triggered the sale, but the owners are hoping for a buyer soon. The 52-acre attraction housed popular roller coasters Hellcat and Dragon Coaster, the Ring of Fire looping ride, Thunder Drop drop tower, Sea Dragon swinging ride, and more. The water park featured slides and a wave pool.

Clementon Park was built in 1907 by New Jersey Assemblyman and Civil War veteran Theodore B. Gibbs and his sons as a way to attract tourists from Atlantic City to Clementon. Since then, the company has undergone major renovations under its different owners, surviving major downturns throughout the 1940s-1960s.

Splash World was added in 1993 after a $5 million renovation. At the time, the amusement park was aging out and unable to compete with other theme parks. The water park attracted new customers.

The park closed in 2019 after its then-owner defaulted on a $4.5 million loan from TD Bank, before being purchased by its current owner, IB Parks & Entertainment, for $2.37 million in 2021. It reopened the same summer.

In the last decade, there has been controversy. In 2015, the park went viral after it hosted an adult-only charity event. During the event, attendees were captured dancing suggestively on video, sparking outrage among the community. Many felt it was not appropriate behavior for a family-friendly park.

Henry Winkler Discusses Decades-Long Feud with Tom Hanks: 'I Am Still Working on My Perspective'

Thu, 09/10/2026 - 9:13am

Henry Winkler is opening up on some long-standing tension that continues to resonate between himself and his early on-screen collaborator, Tom Hanks.

Appearing for a recent interview on In Depth With Graham Bensinger, Winkler discussed how his experiences being fired from the 1989 comedy Turner & Hooch might have dampened his working relationship with Hanks.

At the time, despite feeling he wasn’t “suited” to oversee the film, Winkler said he reluctantly took on the role of Turner & Hooch’s director at the behest of a Paramount executive.

“I went completely against my tummy, and it hit me in the face with a 2×4,” Winkler said.

Due to what he described as “insecurity,” Winkler said that he might have given Hanks and his co-stars too much direction on the film, leading them to develop ill-feelings towards the director.

“I now meet the puppies, and I meet with Tom… and I, at that time being insecure, I talked too much and I gave them direction,” he said. “I [did] what I thought was my job, and I wanted to do it over again and apparently that pissed them off.”

“And in 13 days of filming, I’m called into [studio executive Jeffrey Katzenberg’s] office and he said, ’It’s not in the dailies,'” Winkler said. “I then go to the set. I get my things. I drive home. I’m fired as a director… I don’t handle it well. I’m devastated.”

Nowadays, Winkler mentioned that he isn’t entirely sure where he stands with Hanks, who previously guest starred on Winkler’s breakout series Happy Days in the late ’70s.

“I don’t know because, when Tom, before he was a movie star… he was a guest star on Happy Days. And I don’t know,” he said. “We did a retrospective of Happy Days, and we wanted 60 seconds of Tom Hanks in his episode and we did not get permission for that.”

“I am still working on my perspective,” Winkler went on to say about his view of his and Hanks’ relationship. However, when asked if the relationship might ever be repaired, Winkler gave the hopeful answer of, “Sure.”

Beverly D’Aneglo and Mick Foley Star in a New Holiday Movie Inspired by a True Story: ‘Real Healing Happens With Love’ (Exclusive)

Thu, 09/10/2026 - 9:09am

Christmas is still months away, but holiday movie icon Beverly D’Angelo is starring in a new film that will get you in the Santa spirit.

The Christmas Heartbeat launches on Amazon Prime Video, VUDU, and Fandango on September 29. Based on a true story inspired by the film’s executive producer Carrie Romero’s life, this brand new VOD debut features an all-star cast, including D’Angelo, ‘90s teen heartthrob Joey Lawrence, The Magicians’ Brittany Curran, Stargirls’ Hunter Sansone, WandaVision’s Rachael Thompson, and WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year 24-7 at the Noel Hotel, and when one career-minded journalist-turned-accidental podcaster is forced to move from NYC back home to small-town Tennessee, well…romance, a little family drama, and plenty of “heart” warming moments ensue.

Following a sudden cardiac episode, big-city food writer Julia Winters (played by Curran) is sent packing to her mother’s (played by D’Angelo) year-round love letter to St. Nick bed-and-breakfast. That’s when she’s forced to confront her past, consider her future, and maybe even fall in love.

Not only is this heartfelt holiday film all about family, but it also stars two very famous family members. Courtney D’Angelo plays Curran’s slightly sulky, musically inclined niece. And no, she doesn’t just happen to have the same last name as one of the movie’s other stars. The young actress and Riverdance star is also Beverly D’Angelo’s niece!

D’Angelo as the holiday-obsessed mother is the Christmas Vacation throwback we absolutely needed to see right now. The actress recently shared with Parade, “I’m so proud to have been a part of this film inspired by Carrie Romero’s life story. Real healing happens with love, and that is what The Christmas Heartbeat is all about.”

According to D’Angelo, it’s love that is central to this story. “Christmas is a time to open your heart,” she said. “The love we put into making this movie shines through every scene, and we all agree that in the end, love conquers all…all year round! This film is a must see!”

While you might tune in to see the legendary Christmas movie mom’s latest holiday role, or to catch a glimpse of former 1990s Blossom star Joey Lawrence, Mick Foley as D’Angelo’s character’s lovable right-hand-man/self-taught chef Moose adds an extra (and somewhat unexpected)  pinch of warmth to the already adorable flick.

Known to his fans as Mankind, Cactus Jack, and Dude Love, the WWE Hall of Famer says, “I am so happy to be part of a great holiday movie like The Christmas Heartbeat.”

As it turns out, starring in a holiday film was a dream for the pro wrestler. “Not only was filming the movie a great experience, but appearing in a Christmas movie has been a long time bucket list item for me.” Foley continues, revealing, “When watching, you will literally be seeing a grown man live out a dream.”

The Heart of ‘The Christmas Heartbeat’

This film is a personal journey for executive producer Carrie Romero. “My husband and I really wanted to make a movie inspired by our life together.”

Romero had a sort-of Christmas wish for this project: “When we started filming The Christmas Heartbeat, our main goal was for everyone involved with the movie to leave the project better than when they came in. I’d like to think we achieved that goal.”

Catch a sneak peek of The Christmas Heartbeat here, and stream the full movie on Amazon Prime Video, VUDU, and Fandango later this month!

Dermatologists Settle the Debate: Does Vitamin C Really Fade Dark Spots?

Thu, 09/10/2026 - 9:03am

Vitamin C is one of the most talked-about ingredients in skincare; it’s an antioxidant, a brightener and a collagen supporter. But the question of whether it actually fades dark spots is one dermatologists get regularly.

“Yes, vitamin C can help, but I think people sometimes expect too much from it too quickly,” Melanie Palm, MD, board-certified dermatologist and cosmetic surgeon at Art of Skin MD in San Diego, tells Parade.

“We do have clinical evidence showing that topical vitamin C can improve pigmentation and uneven skin tone,” she says. “Where I find it especially useful is for mild discoloration, sun damage and overall brightening. It also has antioxidant benefits, so you’re getting some protection against the environmental stressors that contribute to pigment in the first place.”

Dr. Alexandra Bowles, D.O., Board-Certified Dermatologist at MONA Dermatology says “Vitamin C can be helpful across a range of skin tones and types, but I do think about it a little differently depending on the person.”

“In darker skin tones, hyperpigmentation tends to be more common and can also be more stubborn, so vitamin C is often a reasonable part of the routine, though I wouldn’t expect it to work as quickly or as dramatically as some marketing suggests,” she continues.

To understand exactly what vitamin C can and can’t do for your skin—and how to use it correctly—here’s what the dermatologists say.

Does Vitamin C Actually Fade Dark Spots? Here’s What the Science Says

Vitamin C doesn’t literally bleach or dissolve existing pigment. “I wouldn’t say it’s literally breaking down an old dark spot,” Dr. Palm explains.

“It’s mostly helping to slow down the production of excess pigment. Vitamin C interferes with tyrosinase, which is an enzyme the skin uses to make melanin.” she clarifies. “So over time, you’re helping prevent as much new pigment from being produced while the skin naturally turns over.” That means that with regular use, dark spots should fade slowly over months.

Dr. Palm says that vitamin C works best as part of a broader approach rather than a standalone treatment. “For something like stubborn melasma or a very established dark spot, I probably wouldn’t rely on vitamin C alone,” she tells Parade. “It works best as part of a bigger plan.”

What Percentage of Vitamin C Is Most Effective—and Is Higher Always Better?

Dr. Palm says more vitamin C isn’t better, explaining, “With L-ascorbic acid (the pure, active form of vitamin C) I generally like that 10-20% range. Once you start pushing beyond that, you may just end up with more irritation without getting much more benefit.”

Plus, vitamin C can irritate very sensitive or reactive skin—”especially skin that’s prone to redness or conditions like rosacea, I’m more cautious, since some vitamin C formulations, particularly those with L-ascorbic acid at higher concentrations, can be irritating and potentially worsen inflammation-related pigmentation before it improves,” Dr. Bowles says.

“I’d also be more careful recommending it for someone with active eczema or a compromised skin barrier, since introducing an acid-based active into already irritated skin can make things worse rather than better. In those cases, I’d rather calm the skin first and introduce vitamin C more gradually, if at all,” she explains.

The formulation and the type of vitamin C matters just as much as the formulation, Dr. Palm says, sharing, “I’d much rather have a patient use a well-formulated 10-15% serum every morning than buy a 25% formula that burns their skin and ends up sitting in a drawer.”

What Type of Vitamin C Formula Works Best for Mature Skin?

For mature skin specifically, a more sensitive formula is a good idea. “L-ascorbic acid is still the classic, well-studied form, and it can be very effective,” Dr. Palm says. “But it’s also acidic and can be irritating for some people, especially if the skin is already dry or sensitive.”

“I often prefer a gentler derivative like tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate,” she tells Parade. “It’s lipid-soluble and tends to be much easier to tolerate.”

Dr. Bowles likes a formula that also contains vitamin E and ferulic acid “since they help stabilize vitamin C and can enhance its antioxidant activity, which is part of why you see that pairing so often in well-formulated serums.”

“Niacinamide can also work well alongside it for pigmentation, and sunscreen is really non-negotiable, since vitamin C’s benefits for dark spots are undermined pretty quickly without daily UV protection,” she adds.

But ultimately, “the best vitamin C is really the one you’re going to use consistently,” she says. “If a formula makes your skin sting every morning, it doesn’t matter how impressive the ingredient list is.”

How Long Does It Take To See Results From Vitamin C on Dark Spots?

“I tell patients to think in terms of months, not weeks,” Dr. Palm says. “You may notice your skin looking a little brighter fairly early on, but for an actual dark spot, I would give vitamin C at least 8-12 weeks of consistent use. And if that spot has been there for years, it may take longer.”

What To Do if Vitamin C Isn’t Working on Your Dark Spots

If SPF is already in the routine and the pigment still isn’t budging, it may be time for a different approach. “It may be time to bring in another ingredient or consider an in-office treatment. Some pigmentation simply needs more than one tool,” Dr. Palm says.

Dr. Bowles suggests looking at other ingredients that “target pigmentation through different pathways, such as azelaic acid, tranexamic acid or a retinoid, either added alongside the vitamin C or used at a different time of day. I think of this as building out the routine rather than replacing what isn’t necessarily failing. It may just not be enough on its own for that particular type of pigmentation,” she says.

Both doctors recommend seeing a dermatologist if the discoloration doesn’t lighten with a solid skincare routine.

“If it is getting darker or more widespread despite consistent care, if it’s associated with any changes in texture or asymmetry that seem unusual, or if someone has tried a reasonable over-the-counter routine for several months without any improvement at all,” Dr. Bowles lists as what to look out for. “At that point, a dermatologist can help identify what type of pigmentation you’re actually dealing with and whether something like hydroquinone, a chemical peel or another in-office treatment would be more appropriate.”

Taylor Sheridan's Epic 'Yellowstone' Prequel with a 94% Rotten Tomatoes Score Is Ranked as One of the Best Western TV Shows

Thu, 09/10/2026 - 8:56am

There have been some excellent Westerns on TV in recent years. You may initially think of Deadwood and Longmire, but Taylor Sheridan has grown in popularity since the release of Yellowstone.

He has two prequel series so far, and while both of them are on the list of Best Western TV Shows on Rotten Tomatoes, there is one that stands out. It’s all about 1923, which over the course of two seasons holds a 94% Rotten Tomatoes score.

This is one of those cases where one season pulls down the other. While Certified Fresh, the first season pulled in an 88% score from the critics. Meanwhile, the second season holds an impressive perfect score, pushing the average up above 1883.

That’s probably not surprising, as the action heated up across all the storylines throughout the second season. With Spencer and Alexandra separated across the water, we saw a journey of hope and love as Alex tried to get back to her love. At the same time, Jacob and Cara had to fight to protect the Dutton home until Spencer was able to get back, not even knowing if he was going to make it.

Teonna’s arc was a powerful one told over the course of two seasons, making it clear that history needs to be learned from. Sheridan didn’t sugarcoat the horrors of residential schools and the treatment of Native American peoples.

Sheridan wanted to make sure that all the actors were ready to make the life of a Western look realistic, and that meant “Cowboy camp,” as Helen Mirren called it during a 2023 screening panel. It wasn’t just the younger ones who went there, either, with Mirren going on to share, “I learned how to drive my buggy.”

“It was a great bonding experience,” she went on to explain, as after that, the cast was split up across the country and even the world very much as we saw the characters throughout the series. “We really became a team, a community, and a company, in a sense, doing that, and then we all went off into our different space.”

When it came to casting, Sheridan knew who he wanted to lead this prequel series, and he went to Mirren and Harrison Ford with a pitch. The two signed without scripts at all, making it clear that they had faith in the Yellowstone creator. It wasn’t easy filming, though, with temperatures dropping to -15F and the cast filming in thin period clothing through it all. It made it realistic, though, which is likely why 1923 is considered one of the Best Western TV Series.

Who Will Perform the Next James Bond Song? This Reunited Duo Is Now a Favorite

Thu, 09/10/2026 - 8:55am

If a new 007 has already been cast, can the same be said about the next theme-song performer?

After Gary Oldman just dropped the bombshell news that James Bond’s shoes have already been filled for the highly anticipated next movie, attention is turning to who will provide the soundtrack to his first mission.

New data reveals that Oasis are now the male act or band most favored by betters to land the job.

According to a news release from Wednesday, September 9, experts at SeatPick analyzed a year’s worth of prediction market data from Kalshi, tracking how the odds on who will perform the next Bond theme have moved since June 2025.

Here are some key insights:

  • Oasis has a 12% chance according to Kalshi, overtaking previous leaders Harry Styles (10%) and Ed Sheeran (9%).
  • Oasis’ odds have almost doubled since the summer, climbing from a low of just 6% on July Fourth to their current 12%, even as speculation grows about what comes next for the band after wrapping their reunion tour. Earlier in the year their odds had been as high as 48%, before cooling off over the summer as attention shifted to a run of female pop stars.
  • New Zealand singer Lorde remains the outright favorite at 83%, after her odds rocketed from just 10% to 83% overnight on August 27. Behind her, Olivia Dean (37%), Raye (26%), Lana Del Rey (21%) and Dua Lipa (14%) round out the top five overall, with Oasis the highest-placed male act just behind them in 6th.
  • Should Oasis land the job, they would become only the third band, after Wings (Live and Let Die, 1973) and Duran Duran (A View to a Kill, 1985), to perform a Bond theme. The role has gone to a solo artist almost every other time in the franchise’s history.

And regarding the next 007 star — Oldman, 68, pointed to his Slow Horses co-star Jack Lowden as his personal pick for the role. But nothing has been confirmed to the public just yet!

The Reason Lori Loughlin Finally Filed For Divorce Isn't Scandalous

Thu, 09/10/2026 - 8:55am

Despite a college admissions scandal and jail time served during her nearly 30-year marriage, Full House staple Lori Loughlin finally decided to pull the plug on her marriage for a very reasonable reason: she wanted a fresh start. Two years after announcing her separation from Mossimo Giannulli, the actress filed for divorce, and TMZ reports she simply wants a clean break.

Amid speculation that she may have a new romantic partner, sources tell the outlet Loughlin isn’t currently dating. Instead, she no longer wants to be tied to Giannulli, and opted to rip the bandaid off once and for all.

She’s now focused on herself. Loughlin even returned to Instagram after a seven-year hiatus while focusing on rebuilding her personal life and career. She is back to work filming movies and other projects are on the horizon. Her upcoming Hallmark film Garage Sale Mysteries will premiere on Saturday, September 19. She made her official return to Instagram a week ago, captioning a video compilation featuring her and her Full House co-stars captioned, “Wake up, San Francisco! I’m back on IG.” In a separate post, also a video compilation of recent moments of her smiling, she captions the post, “Here’s to things working out.”

In her divorce documents, Loughlin listed August 31, 2025, as the date of separation and also notes that she and her estranged husband signed a prenuptial agreement and intend to address spousal support at a later date.

The former couple wed in 1997 and share daughters Olivia Jade and Bella Giannulli. They sold their Hidden Hills mansion for over $12 million last year.

Loughlin served two months in federal prison for her role in the 2019 college admissions bribery scandal. Her ex served five months in federal prison and was also ordered to pay a $250,000 fine and complete two years of supervised release.

Prince Harry Suffers This Professional Blow After Returning to the UK

Thu, 09/10/2026 - 8:51am

Prince Harry has returned to the U.K. hoping to focus on his charitable work, but his homecoming has already brought an unexpected setback to one of his biggest projects.

Uganda has withdrawn from the 2027 Invictus Games, the international sporting event Harry founded for wounded, injured and sick military personnel and veterans in 2014. And the country’s reason for doing so was strikingly direct: its loyalty is to King Charles III.

The announcement came from Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Ugandan president’s son and the country’s Chief of Defence Forces, who made the decision public in a post on X. “In order not to be construed as being opposed to His Majesty King Charles III of the United Kingdom, whom we deeply revere, Uganda hereby withdraws from the Invictus Games,” he wrote. “We shall not participate in anything that does not have His Majesty’s approval.”

Kainerugaba later elaborated further, telling The Times: “I support the monarch. Period.”

The Invictus Games Foundation said it was “unaware” of the withdrawal before the social media post went live and is now in discussions with its Ugandan partners. The 2027 Games are scheduled to take place in Birmingham, UK, from July 10 to July 17.

In order not to be construed as being opposed to His Majesty King Charles III of the United Kingdom, whom we deeply revere, Uganda hereby withdraws from the invictus games. We shall not participate in anything that does not have His Majesty’s approval.

— Muhoozi Kainerugaba (@mkainerugaba) September 9, 2026

The timing is particularly pointed. Uganda’s withdrawal comes just days after King Charles issued a letter clarifying Harry and Meghan’s status as non-working members of the royal family – a formal reminder that they had stepped away from representative royal duties in January 2020 and that “there is no change to the current status of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.”

For Harry, who has poured enormous energy into the Invictus Games as his defining post-royal legacy, Uganda’s departure is more than a logistical setback – it’s a public signal that his complicated relationship with the institution he left continues to have repercussions.

Critics Slam Sydney Sweeney Over 'Tacky' New Novig Ad: 'Selling Your Soul is Very On Brand For Sydney'

Thu, 09/10/2026 - 8:39am

Sydney Sweeney is once again going viral for a divisive new ad showing off her highly talked-about physical appearance.

Only this time around, the 28-year-old is gaining attention for some wrong reasons, according to multiple critics across social media.

Earlier this week, Sweeney made internet headlines by appearing in a new ad for the sports betting app Novig. The ad in question saw Sweeney appearing almost entirely nude while suggestively posing with several pieces of athletic gear, including footballs, hockey equipment and other sports apparel.

In one notable shot, the Euphoria actress is seen sitting on top of a basketball hole completely naked, with her signature blonde hair draped across her chest to cover her breasts.

Due to the heavily sexualized imagery of the ad, Sweeney and Novig have come under fire for the ad, with many critics slamming the star for sensationalizing sports and sports betting platforms.

“This is sad at this point,” wrote one user. “Can’t sell or be a normal girl if she doesn’t use her body as a tool. Sexualizing sports like this is crazy.”

“Why is no one understanding how disgusting this is…” added another user.

Some accounts also expressed their concern that younger sports fans might see the ad, exposing them to incredibly suggestive adult content when navigating the internet.

“Big fan of Syd,” one account started by saying. “That said, I can’t help feeling like an old man when I think about how tacky this ad is. Not to mention the fact that a lot of young people – yes, minors – love sports and will see this ad.”

Along with her revealing appearance in the ad, harsher critics also slammed Sweeney for endorsing a controversial service like sports betting apps.

“Selling your soul to the gambling companies is very on brand, Sydney,” one account wrote.

“Betting on sports is politics. It’s a control mechanism,” agreed another.
