1967 Soft Rock Classic Banned Over One Lyric Ranks Among the Greatest Songs Ever
Banned from radio over a single lyric in 1967, this soft rock classic only grew in stature over time as it went on to earn its place among the greatest songs ever recorded.
Van Morrison’s “Brown Eyed Girl” is a song about youthful love, nostalgia, and the bittersweet memory of a carefree romance. Written early in his solo career, it captures the joy and innocence of a past relationship.
However, the song faced backlash from many radio stations in the late '60s over one of Morrison's most iconic lines, "making love in the green grass." The lyric was considered too suggestive by some broadcasters at the time, leading to pushback despite the song’s growing popularity, according to Songfacts.

At the time, some stations considered the lyric too suggestive for airplay. A new edit replaced the original verse with a combination of prior lyrics, including the words “laughin’ and a-runnin’, hey hey,”
The Sweet Inspirations provided the supporting vocals to "Brown Eyed Girl." The singing group backed Elvis Presley for eight years, from 1969 through his death in August 1977.

According to Acclaimed Music rankings, “Brown Eyed Girl” is widely regarded as one of the most celebrated songs in popular music history. In 2010, Rolling Stone placed it at No. 110 on its list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, further cementing its legacy. The track was also inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in January 2007, honoring its lasting cultural and musical impact.
Morrison told Cameron Crowe in a Rolling Stone interview published in 1977 that, despite the controversy surrounding the song's lyrics, he prefers they remain open to listener interpretation.

"A lot of times people say, ‘What does this mean?’ A lot of times, I have no idea what I mean. If you can’t figure out what it means, or it’s troubling you, it’s not for you. Like [Jack] Kerouac, some of his prose stuff, how can you ask what it means? It means what it means."
In 2009, Morrison explained to Time Magazine: "'Brown Eyed Girl' I didn't perform for a long time because for me it was like a throwaway song. I've got about 300 other songs I think are better than that."
Despite its lasting popularity, 58 years after its September 1967 release, "Brown Eyed Girl" peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard Top 100. The song appeared on his debut solo album, Blowin' Your Mind!, and again on his 1973 compilation T.B. Sheets.

A Country Pioneer Died 51 Years Ago After a Devastating Stroke— Waylon Jennings Made Sure He Was Never Forgotten
When Bob Wills died on May 13, 1975, country music lost one of its foundational architects. But thanks in large part to Waylon Jennings, the "King of Western Swing" never really disappeared from the genre he helped create.
As the leader of The Texas Playboys, Wills fused jazz, blues, fiddle music and big-band swing into a distinctly Texas sound that would influence generations of country artists. Music historians still widely credit him as a co-founder of Western swing, and his fingerprints remain all over outlaw country, honky-tonk and modern Texas country music.
Wills’ final years were tragic. In 1973, while recording a tribute album with devoted admirer Merle Haggard, the country pioneer suffered a massive stroke that left him largely incapacitated and eventually comatose until his death two years later.
But even as Wills faded from public life, Jennings was making sure his name stayed alive.
In 1975, the same year Wills died, Jennings released "Bob Wills Is Still the King," a song that became one of the defining tributes in country music history. The track wasn’t just nostalgic; it was a declaration that no matter how much country music changed, Wills’ influence still towered over Texas music culture.
"You can hear the Grand Ole Opry / In Nashville, Tennessee," Jennings sang.
"But when you cross that old Red River hoss / That just don’t mean a thing / Once you’re down in Texas / Bob Wills is still the king."
The song became a longtime staple of Jennings’ live performances for decades afterward and introduced younger audiences to Wills long after his death.
Ironically, Jennings later admitted he hadn’t actually grown up as a huge Wills fanatic. During an appearance on Ryman Country Homecoming, he laughed while saying, "No, I wasn’t," when asked if he had been a big Wills fan as a kid, adding, "I liked two of his songs. I really did. That was a misconception."
Instead, Jennings explained the song was inspired partly by his experiences playing Texas dance halls built for giant Western swing orchestras.
"I’d get up on the long bandstand, built for a twelve-piece cowboy orchestra, and I’d be telling my four guys to start spreading out," he recalled.
The song also carried a playful jab at friend Willie Nelson during the height of the outlaw-country era. In his memoir It's a Long Story: My Life, Nelson recalled Jennings performing the song with "a devilish look in his eye" after hearing people refer to Willie as the "King of Austin."
But Nelson, 93, said he understood the deeper point immediately.
"Truth be told, I really did like the song," Nelson wrote. "And besides, he’d sung the gospel truth: as far as I was concerned, Bob Wills was still the king."
More than five decades after Wills’ death and more than 20 years after Jennings died himself, that sentiment still rings true across country music.

Rod Stewart Had a 3-Word Label for Donald Trump During a Rare Meeting With King Charles
Rod Stewartdoesn't do subtle. Never has.
So, when the 81-year-old rock legend found himself shaking hands with King Charles at a charity event in London last week, he decided to share exactly what he thought about the king's recent trip to America.
"May I say, well done in the Americas," Stewart told Charles at the King's Trust 50th anniversary celebration on May 11. "You were superb. Absolutely superb."
@itvnewsRod Stewart praised King Charles' four-day trip to the US meeting 'ratbag' President Donald Trump during an event on May 11th celebrating the 50th anniversary of the King's Trust at the Royal Albert Hall. #King #DonaldTrump #Royals
♬ original sound - ITV News - ITV NewsThen he did the unthinkable, he said the quiet part out loud.
"You put that little ratbag in his place."
He was speaking about Donald Trump.
King Charles — who's supposed to stay out of politics — smiled. Stewart laughed. Then the rocker kept going.
After that, Stewart turned his attention to Queen Camilla and doubled down: "I was just congratulating your husband on his wonderful performance in the Americas, so great, so brave, so proud."
Related: Bob Dylan Played His Wife This 1976 Song to Save Their Marriage - It Almost Worked
The whole thing got recorded and posted to TikTok, where people couldn't believe thier eyes.
"Did I just become a Rod Stewart fan?" one fan commented, perfectly capturing what a lot of people seemed to be thinking.
Someone else chimed in: "All of a sudden I'm obsessed with Rod Stewart at 21."
Younger viewers especially seemed surprised to discover that this guy who made hits decades before they were born still has this much nerve.
The Backstory Behind Rod Stewart's Relationship With Donald TrumpHere's the thing, though: Rod and Donald used to be buddies.
They're literally neighbors in Florida, living about half a mile from each other on the beach. Stewart used to attend Trump's Christmas parties. They'd hang out. Stewart has said Trump was always "a bit of a man's man," which he appreciated.
But something shifted when Trump became president.
“Since he became president, he became another guy," Stewart told Radio Times last June. "Somebody I didn't know."
When the interviewer asked if Stewart still considers Trump a friend, he didn't hesitate: "No, I can't any more.”
What broke the friendship? Trump's questionable comments about NATO soldiers who fought in Afghanistan.
Photo by Davidoff Studios Photography on Getty Images
Back in January, Trump gave an interview suggesting NATO troops kind of stayed out of direct danger during combat, saying they "stayed a little back, a little off the front lines." Stewart — who got knighted by Prince William in 2016 — was furious.
"We lost over 400 of our guys," Stewart said in a response video, talking about British soldiers who died. "Think about their parents. Think about it. And Trump calls them almost like cowards. It's unbearable.”
Trump eventually backed off those comments after the U.K.'s Prime Minister called them "insulting." But by then, Stewart was done.
The charity event where all this happened was in celebration of 50 years of the King's Trust, which King Charles started back in 1976. The organization has helped more than 1.3 million young adults gain access to education, jobs, and training over the years.
In regard to King Charles' recent American visit? That was supposed to help strengthen the relationship between the U.S. and the U.K. Charles gave speeches about how the two countries have an "indispensable alliance" and discussed supporting Ukraine and NATO.
Photo by WPA Pool on Getty Images
When Stewart congratulated King Charles for how he handled Trump, he was basically saying Charles managed to remain diplomatic while still making very important points.
Whether Stewart's judgment is fair or not depends on who you ask. However, there's something kind of refreshing about an 81-year-old rock star who's wealthy and established enough to just... say what he thinks. Even when he's talking to a king about a president.
Stewart's always been the type to speak his mind. That's why people loved him in the first place. And judging by the TikTok comments, a whole new generation is falling in love with him now.

How 'Good Omens' Is Giving Fans the Ending They Deserved After Everything Fell Apart Behind the Scenes
Few finales arrive carrying the weight that Good Omens Season 3 does. When the show premieres its feature-length conclusion on Prime Video on May 13, it will close out a story that, for a period stretching well over a year, looked like it might never reach an ending at all.
Good Omens, the fantasy comedy based on the beloved 1990 novel by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, built one of streaming's most devoted fanbases across its first two seasons. Michael Sheen and David Tennant, playing the angel Aziraphale and the demon Crowley, became one of television's most celebrated pairings, and Season 2's cliffhanger ending in July 2023 left that fanbase desperate for resolution. What followed was not a routine wait between seasons.
In 2024, multiple women made allegations of sexual assault against Gaiman, who served as the show's creator and showrunner. Gaiman has denied any non-consensual conduct. Amazon paused production on Season 3 in September 2024. By October 2024, Gaiman had exited the production entirely, and the planned six-episode season was restructured: rather than cancel the show, Prime Video committed to completing it as a single 90-minute finale. Director Rachel Talalay says the planned six-episode story was reshaped into a tighter, stronger 90-minute finale, with co-writer Peter Atkins confirming the season was condensed from a full run into one extended special.
Related: 'Doctor Who' Legend Honored by the British Crown
The people who stayed built something under difficult conditions. Talalay, a veteran of Doctor Who, took the scripts that writers Michael Marshall Smith and Peter Atkins had assembled, distilled from what was originally a six-episode arc, and shaped them into a finale that picks up directly from Season 2's gut-punch ending. Aziraphale and Crowley return to face their most personal adventure yet, with their millennia-long friendship fractured since Aziraphale accepted a return to Heaven, leaving Crowley behind. Now, as the newly appointed Supreme Archangel, Aziraphale is tasked with overseeing the Second Coming.
Executive producer Josh Cole, representing the production alongside Rob Wilkins of the Pratchett estate and BBC Studios, pushed the project across the finish line. 'I'm proud of everyone who worked hard on Season 3 in incredibly difficult circumstances. Knowing what Good Omens means to the fandom really drove us forward and the finale is very much for them,' Cole said.
Michael Sheen, who attended an early screening, offered fans a frank and characteristically warm preview. He said he both laughed and cried, acknowledged there would be things audiences would argue about, and added: 'Thank God for what it is. Brilliantly directed, beautiful performances, fantastic new looks, incredible work all around. And there's nightingales.'
Early reviews describe the finale as an imperfect but emotionally real conclusion, one that leans hard on what the show has always done best. Critics note that the compressed format shows (full arcs are collapsed into moments) but that Tennant and Sheen's chemistry remains the series' most reliable constant, delivering exactly the kind of bittersweet send-off the show's audience had been quietly fearing they might never receive.
For a fanbase that spent two years wondering whether Crowley and Aziraphale's story would simply go unfinished, that may be enough. The finale premieres May 13 on Prime Video.
This 100-Year-Old Ride Is Still One of the Most Popular Attractions at One Top-Ranked U.S. Theme Park
While the massive coastal theme parks often dominate the headlines, there is a "hidden gem" tucked away in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, that represents the gold standard of American park preservation.
Kennywood, located just southeast of Pittsburgh, is one of only two amusement parks in the nation designated as a National Historic Landmark. Recently voted the #4 Best Theme Park in the country by the 2026 USA TODAY 10Best Readers' Choice Awards, the park is celebrating a rare milestone this season: the 100th anniversary of a flat-ride legend that is still thrilling guests today.

As the park's oldest flat ride, it remains a masterclass in simple, mechanical joy. There are no screens or virtual reality headsets here—just an elliptical track that "whips" riders around the bends with a satisfying snap.
To celebrate its 100th year, the ride has received a series of cosmetic upgrades, including a fresh coat of paint and a commemorative 100th-anniversary logo on all 16 cars. It is a rare piece of living history that continues to delight families exactly as it did a century ago, proving that some thrills are truly timeless.
The consensus among enthusiasts on Reddit reinforces the idea that this historic park is far more than a local relic, often surprising first-time visitors with its high-velocity layout and vintage charm.
As one rider noted, "The park is a bit quirky, but it overall felt like Knoebel's and Lake Compounce had a child." When it comes to the 100-year-old centerpiece of the park’s flat-ride collection, fans are often surprised by the staying power of the mechanical design; as another visitor put it, "The Whip remains as fun as ever and it baffles me that such a simple ride is not more popular." Ultimately, it serves as a bridge for all types of travelers, with one reviewer noting it is "something that literally anyone can enjoy without being too thrilling or scary but also being enjoyable enough for thrill seekers."

The Legend of the PhantomWhile the centennial of The Whip is the heart of the park's history this year, it isn't the only anniversary on the calendar. Phantom’s Revenge is celebrating its 25th year of operation this month. This ride is a global favorite for its unique, terrain-hugging layout that threads through the wooden structure of the neighboring Thunderbolt coaster.
It was recently ranked as the #2 Best Roller Coaster in the nation by USA TODAY 10Best, second only to the Phoenix at Knoebels. For its 25th anniversary, the ride has been "spruced up" with a revamped station, new audio effects in the queue, and a striking new look for the trains.
Whether you are there for the 100-year-old snap of The Whip or the 85 mph plunge of the Phantom, Kennywood’s 2026 season proves that a park doesn't need to be the biggest to be the best—it just needs to know how to honor its history.
4 Birth Months Who Are Natural-Born Healers
Whether they are capable of reading your aura or simply give the absolute best, balm-for-the-soul-like hugs, some people are simply born with healing spiritualgifts. Their warmth, wisdom, old soul perspective, and emotional intelligence make them especially valued as friends, loved ones, or spouses. And you can often tell they are genuinely motivated by an excess of compassion, humanitarianism, and a desire to bring more balance, beauty, peace, and connection to the world. They’re also born community builders and team players.
While just about anyone can come into this world with a mission to be a spiritual healer, people who possess certain natal astrology—and are therefore born during key birth months—are especially inclined to have these skills.
Which Birth Months Have Healing Gifts?Birth months are listed.
NEXT: The Country That Calls Your Soul, Based on Your Birth Month
February: The Empath and DreamerPeople born in February were born when the sun was in either the innovative, forward-thinking air sign Aquarius or the deeply empathic, poet-minded water sign Pisces. Aquarius tends to be more rational, tech-savvy, and science-driven, while Pisces is an imaginative escapist, but both are capable of dreaming bigger than practically any other signs. This is thanks to the fact that Aquarius is co-ruled by Uranus, the planet of breakthroughs, and Pisces is guided by Neptune, the planet of spirituality and rose-colored glasses-wearing idealism. Thanks to their ability to look beyond what is directly in front of them, they excel at reading emotional subtext, are sensitive to energy, and possess an uncanny ability to hold space for some of the most complex feelings that someone in their circle might ever experience.
June: The Communicator and CaregiverThose who came into the world when the sun was moving through either curious, supercommunicator Gemini or heartfelt, nurturing Cancer excel at gathering information so that they can better show up for their nearest and dearest. They’re adept researchers, controversialists, and, thanks to an abundance of both cerebral energy and emotional intelligence, they are quick to pick up on exactly what to say and do to comfort others. They also do a beautiful job tapping into the power of memory, nostalgia, and sentimentality to soothe others, perhaps recreating a beloved vacation or designing a photo book that brings to mind a bevy of heartwarmingly magical moments.
READ: 4 Birth Dates Are the Heart of the Family
August: The Intuitive Bright LightWhether they were born when the sun was in dynamic, optimistic Leo or industrious, whip-smart Virgo, people who came into the world in August are here to illuminate the rooms they step into and empower others to do the same. They may exude confidence, thanks to Leo being ruled by the sun, or they might have a gorgeous grasp of language, thanks to Virgo being ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication. Showcasing these skills inspires others to tap into what makes them feel most self-assured and articulate, as well. They can also be psychic and leverage their awareness of any vibe they’re picking up on to show up for the ones they love.
RELATE?: Your Perfect Comfort Meal, Based on Birth Date
November: The Loyal Intimacy BuilderWhether they were born under powerful, magnetic Scorpio or gregarious, adventuring Sagittarius, people who came into the world when the sun was in these signs are unafraid to face challenging and complex emotions. In fact, because Scorpio is ruled by regenerative Pluto and Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, the planet of spiritual growth, November-borns live for transformational experiences. They excel at supporting others who might be facing uphill battles by offering unconditional support and even a surge of industrious, optimistic energy.

1985 Film Ranked Among ‘Greatest Cult Classic Movies of All Time’ Almost Never Happened
Some of the most beloved cult movies in Hollywood history began as ideas that sounded completely ridiculous on paper.
That was certainly the case for Clue, the 1985 comedy mystery based on the classic board game that has since become one of the most quoted and endlessly rewatched cult films of its era.
Today, the movie regularly appears on lists of the greatest cult classics ever made. Forbes included Clue on its ranking of the “Greatest Cult Classic Movies of All Time,” praising the film’s cast, multiple endings and campy mystery-comedy formula, while Wealth of Geeks recently named it among the “Greatest Cult Movie Classics of All Time.”
But according to writer-director Jonathan Lynn, the movie almost never happened at all.
Speaking on The Hollywood Reporter’s"It Happened in Hollywood" podcast, Lynn admitted his first reaction to the idea of adapting the board game into a feature film was disbelief.
“I thought it was the silliest idea I’d ever heard,” Lynn recalled.
At the time, several major writers had already turned the project down, including legendary playwright Tom Stoppard, who reportedly accepted the job before later mailing back the check and calling the concept “hopelessly old-fashioned.”
Lynn ultimately cracked the story after realizing the game’s color-themed character names couldn’t possibly be real.
“They all had to be aliases,” he explained. “So they all had something to hide.”
That revelation became the foundation for the entire film.
Released in 1985, Clue featured an all-star cast including Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Christopher Lloyd, Martin Mull, Michael McKean, Eileen Brennan and Lesley Ann Warren. The film blended old-fashioned murder mystery storytelling with rapid-fire farce, slapstick comedy and increasingly chaotic plot twists.
One of the movie’s most famous elements was its unusual release strategy.
Different theaters received different endings, meaning audiences could see one of three possible conclusions depending on where they watched the movie. The gimmick confused some moviegoers at the time and helped contribute to the film’s disappointing box office performance.
“The ending is what people remember,” Lynn said. “If you can’t decide what your last two hours has been about, critics tend to say, ‘They couldn’t even make up their minds how to end it.’ So that was a disaster.”
Ironically, the multiple-ending format later became one of the movie’s defining features once all three endings were combined together for home video and television releases.
Over time, Clue slowly transformed from box office disappointment into a genuine cult phenomenon.
The film developed a passionate fanbase through cable reruns, VHS, DVD and streaming, with audiences embracing its endlessly quotable dialogue, theatrical performances and elaborate mystery plotting. Some screenings now even feature live shadow casts similar to The Rocky Horror Picture Show (which also famously starred Tim Curry).
Lynn also revealed several behind-the-scenes stories that have since become part of the film’s mythology.
Carrie Fisher was originally cast as Miss Scarlet before entering rehab days before filming, leading Lesley Ann Warren to join the cast at the last minute. Madeline Kahn’s legendary “flames… flames on the side of my face” speech was largely improvised, while Tim Curry, who played the frantic butler Wadsworth, had actually attended the same English school as Lynn years earlier.
Despite the film’s rocky start in theaters, Lynn said he remains amazed by the movie’s enduring popularity four decades later.
“It’s extraordinary,” he said. “People still apparently love it.”
Carl Radke Reveals the ‘Summer House’ Reunion ‘Wheels Came Off' in '2 Minutes’
In a not-so-surprising revelation, Carl Radke revealed that the Summer House Season 10 reunion imploded pretty quickly.
"I was hoping going into it that we could maybe set a higher standard for ourselves," Carl said on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen. "But I feel [laughter] like the wheels came off really, like within two minutes."
WWHL and reunion host Andy Cohen shared that the last time he hosted a reunion of that magnitude was the Vanderpump Rules Scandoval reunion. "There was so much there. It was so intense," he said.
"It was incredibly emotional," Carl said. "I think we were learning things in real time, which also was very hard for a lot of us to digest. I think there's real hurt, there's real disappointment, there's real lies that we're a real family and it just was uncomfortable."
The reunion, which promises to be the most intense in the series’ history, will dive into events that unfolded after season 10 ended. West Wilson, who seemingly rekindled both his friendship and possible romance with Ciara Miller, began dating Amanda Batula following her separation from husband Kyle Cooke. Throughout the breakdown of Amanda’s marriage, Ciara remained one of her most steadfast supporters, while Amanda was seen on the show rooting for Ciara and West’s rekindled relationship to succeed.
Gesturing to Andy, Carl added, "And I think you nailed it when you walked out of the studio. You're like, 'That was chaotic. It was intense.' But I do think that there was maybe some slight progress because we got it all out. I think, yeah. I mean, it was nuts."
Andy confirmed that Ciara "got it all out" at the reunion, adding that these reunions give cast members "the chance to confront these people in that way."
"It's part of what we do here, and I think it's really important. But I think it's what's allowed our show to work through some of this crazy stuff," Carl added, reflecting on the last few reunions, which heavily focused on his broken engagement to Lindsay Hubbard.
"I look at me and Lindsay, you know, three years ago we were sitting next to you in the reunion. It was not great either," Carl recalled. "So, I think we're now in a place where hopefully we can work through stuff and set an example like friends could ...well, we'll see."
Summer House is on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo.

JetBlue Just Launched Its First-Ever Italy Flight—and Tickets Start at $399
JetBlue has officially landed in Italy, and it’s doing so with the kind of introductory fares that make a spontaneous summer in Milan feel entirely justifiable. On May 11, the airline launched its first-ever service to Italy with a daily seasonal route between Boston Logan (BOS) and Milano Malpensa (MXP), marking a major expansion for New England’s leading leisure carrier.
To celebrate the milestone, JetBlue is dropping limited one-way fares starting at $399 for core (coach) seats and $649 for EvenMore, while their premium Mint suites are starting at $2,199.
For those of us who have spent years navigating the "carry-on only" life, JetBlue’s transatlantic A321 service is a game-changer; even in core, you’re getting free high-speed Wi-Fi and meals curated by Dig Inn, which significantly beats the standard "airline chicken" experience.

View this post on InstagramMarty St. George, president of JetBlue, noted that this launch is a strategic win for travelers who want a high-quality experience without the legacy carrier price tag. “As our first destination in Italy, Milan brings even more reach to our transatlantic network and gives customers, both in New England and across our network, the chance to experience JetBlue’s unique service across the Atlantic," St. George said. "All of it is built around exceptional service, thoughtful design and everyday value.”
The timing couldn’t be better for anyone looking to bypass the chaos of Paris or London this summer. Milan serves as a perfect gateway not just for the fashion district, but for easy escapes to Lake Como and the Italian Alps. Aldo Schmid, Head of Aviation Business Development for SEA Milan Airports, described the new connection as a "sign of confidence" in the Milan market, offering passengers "greater travel options, along with a high-quality experience."

1972 Glam Rock Anthem Became a Hit Twice Thanks to a Supergroup
In 1972, T. Rex had a hit single with “Bang a Gong (Get it On).” The song, which appeared on the group's second album Electric Warrior, peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 on March 4, 1972, making the pioneering English glam rock band a one-hit wonder in the United States.
Written by Marc Bolan, “Bang a Gong” was once ranked one of the Top 100 classic rock songs of all time by Ultimate Classic Rock. The outlet paid homage to the song’s “hypnotic groove” and described it as T. Rex's “shining moment.” “Bolan found rhythm in his language and will long be remembered as a poet turned superstar …. ‘Bang A Gong (Get It On)’ still plays a crucial part in pop culture," UCR noted.
Producer Tony Visconti once explained T. Rex’s status as a one-hit wonder in the U.S. “When [Bolan] came over, he would play 'Get It On' with a 20-minute guitar solo, like he was Jimi Hendrix,” he told The Guardian in a 2023 interview. “The kids wanted to hear basic rock’n’roll. His attendance at shows dropped immediately.”
Bolan died in a car accident in 1977 at age 29, and T. Rex disbanded soon after.
The song found a new life in 1985Eight years after Bolan’s death, “Bang a Gong” found a new life in the music video era. In 1985, The Power Station released a cover of the T. Rex hit, with the flipped-around title “Get it On (Bang a Gong).” The song went to No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the summer of 1985 and received heavy rotation on MTV.
The Power Station supergroup featured singer Robert Palmer, former Chic drummer Tony Thompson, and Duran Duran members John Taylor and Andy Taylor. The group was formed after John Taylor agreed to help his then-girlfriend, Bebe Buell, produce a cover version of the T. Rex classic with a few of his rock star friends.
“I was dating her at the tail end of [the 1984] Duran tour,” Taylor told Variety in a January 2026 interview. “She was an artiste who’d already had a record out by that time, and I thought it could be fun producing something with her. …. So we got the green light for studio time to develop the idea, then she and I fell out. But by then the horse was running, and Andy and I took the bit between our teeth…”
While Taylor and Buell broke up before their project was finished, The Power Station went on to record their debut album, which also featured the hit single “Some Like It Hot.” The album hit No. 6 on the Billboard 200, and singer Michael Des Barres joined the supergroup when they went on tour.

22 Years Ago Today, a Series Finale Aired With a Subtle Twist That Still Has Fans Divided
For 11 seasons, Frasier brought sharp wit, unforgettable one-liners, and one of television’s most beloved sitcom families into living rooms across America. The Emmy-winning series followed psychiatrist Frasier Crane, played by actor Kelsey Grammer. The sitcom became a defining staple of NBC’s Must-See TV era before airing its emotional series finale on May 13, 2004.
"Goodnight, Seattle," was the fitting title for the show's finale. Frasier decides to leave Seattle and take a new job in San Francisco. However, when the series ends, Frasier doesn't touch down in California—the pilot is heard announcing "Welcome to Chicago." The ending suggests that Frasier chose to follow his heart, to pursue his love interest, Charlotte (Laura Linney), in the Windy City.
The 25 million viewers who tuned in to watch the finale were left with plenty of emotions—and questions. Would Frasier stay in Chicago with Charlotte? Would he eventually fly back to California? And, most importantly, would Frasier's journey pick back up at a later date?
Over the years, fans of the long-running series have remained divided over how the show wrapped up.
"Honestly it seemed more like a season finale than a series finale. Like eventually something would go wrong and he would return to Seattle. It was so weird to see that the series closed with Frasier moving on to start a TV show and then randomly going to chase after a random woman at the last minute. Because while the show tried to paint it as the most romantic thing possible, it wasn't like his relationship with Charlotte was developed at all," one fan of the show wrote on a Reddit thread about the finale.
"I totally disagree. With Martin getting re-married, his relationship with Frasier was about to change, in a major way. He had re-connected with his father, but now that he had married, he was moving out and moving on. Niles and Daphne were just starting a new life together, as well, and Frasier, at this point, would be living on his own and still young enough that he too could finally stop taking care of others and take care of himself and find love. It made perfect narrative sense for him to take a figurative and literal leap into the unknown and do something for himself, turn a new page and start a new adventure," someone else countered.
The story ultimately continued in Paramount+’s 2023 Frasier revival, which ran for two seasons before being canceled. The reboot revealed that Frasier and Charlotte stayed together in Chicago for nearly 20 years before Frasier relocated to Boston to reconnect with his son Freddy — setting up the premise of the revival series.
There has been ongoing speculation about the revival potentially finding a new home on another network or streaming service, though discussion surrounding a possible continuation has quieted in recent months.
