I’ve Traveled With Only a Carry-On for 10 Years—These Are the 5 Things I Stopped Packing

Mon, 09/07/2026 - 7:10am

Few travel headaches ruin the start of a trip quite like standing beside an empty baggage carousel watching the luggage belt grind to a halt. For travel writer and founder at Jen33Travel Jen Curnutt, the final straw wasn’t just airline delays—it was watching other travelers mistakenly walk out of the terminal with her personal belongings.

“I originally began traveling with only carry-ons because I worried that the airline would lose my bags,” Curnutt shares. “My bigger issue these days is that I’ve had another passenger take my checked bag by mistake not once, but twice. The first time was more understandable because I had a plain black bag, but the second time shocked me. I was traveling with an incredibly distinctive Patagonia rolling fishing bag with unusual colors and a large fish on the side. I had never seen anyone else with that bag, yet someone still managed to mistake it for their own and leave the airport.”

That second mix-up cemented a permanent lifestyle shift. For the past decade, Curnutt has traveled carry-on only, stepping straight off the jet bridge and heading out into her destination without a backward glance.

“I love being able to step off the plane and immediately start my trip. I don’t have to make my way to baggage claim and wait, pay checked-bag fees, or wonder whether my luggage made the connection,” she says. “Traveling with only a carry-on eliminates that possibility and gives me much more freedom and peace of mind.”

Fitting weeks of travel into a single overhead bag, however, requires ruthlessly weeding out the dead weight that clutters most suitcases. Here are the five items Curnutt refuses to pack anymore—and the one game-changing item she relies on for every single journey.

View this post on Instagram 5 Things She Stopped Packing 1. Extra Shoes

Footwear is heavy, rigid, and consumes more volume than almost anything else in your luggage. Curnutt learned early on that tossing in “options” is a recipe for an overstuffed suitcase.

“Extra shoes have been something I stopped packing a long time ago. They are heavy, bulky, and take up more space than almost anything else,” Curnutt explains. “I limit myself to the pairs I know I will wear and plan outfits around them. I also wear the largest or heaviest pair on the plane. If I do need to pack extra tennis shoes or boots, I always fill the space inside them with socks or other small items.”

2. Full-Size Toiletries

Sacrificing precious carry-on space for giant bottles of shampoo or lotion is an automatic dealbreaker.

“There is no reason to sacrifice valuable carry-on space for large bottles,” says Curnutt. “I transfer my regular products into travel-size containers, use contact lens cases when I only need a small amount, and rely on toiletries supplied by the hotel when possible. If I am traveling for an extended stay, I can almost always buy toiletries upon arrival.”

3. “Just-in-Case” Items

The hypothetical wardrobe—the extra sweater, the formal backup outfit, or gear for an activity that isn’t actually on your itinerary—inevitably returns home untouched.

“I stopped packing for every unlikely possibility. Extra outfits, another sweater, or something I ‘might’ need almost always comes home with me having never been touched,” Curnutt admits. “I now pack for my actual itinerary, reminding myself that I can usually purchase an unexpected necessity if it ends up that I truly forgot something. I’ve found it’s far easier to overpack than to forget something essential.”

4. Clothing That Only Works With One Outfit

If a piece can’t pull double or triple duty, it doesn’t earn a spot in the bag.

“If an item can only be worn once or one way, it generally doesn’t belong in my carry-on,” Curnutt notes. “I think of packing as creating a small capsule wardrobe. Choosing interchangeable pieces in the same color palette gives me more outfit combinations with far fewer clothes.” She leans heavily into versatile neutrals with a single accent hue, ensuring every top seamlessly coordinates with every bottom.

5. Bulky Cases and Containers

Oversized hard-shell organizers and rigid cosmetic boxes steal valuable cubic inches and add needless weight to your rollaboard.

“I no longer pack bulky jewelry boxes, cosmetic cases, or oversized product packaging,” Curnutt says. “Jewelry rolls, small pouches, travel-size bottles, and contact lens cases organize the same items using far less space.”

The 1 Thing She Always Packs

When it comes to her absolute non-negotiables, Curnutt relies on a small set of smart organizers—led by high-performance compression packing cubes.

“My carry-on non-negotiables are a compression packing cube for bulky clothing, a jewelry roll, and a compact toiletry bag filled with products I’ve transferred into travel-size containers,” Curnutt explains. “If I’m packing wrinkle-prone, structured pieces like button-down tops, I also bring a slim garment folder. Each item either creates more room, keeps me organized, or protects my clothing without adding unnecessary bulk.”

Her packing system pairs two distinct techniques to get the maximum efficiency out of every corner of her suitcase.

“For a smaller carry-on, I use a combination of rolling my clothes and compression packing cubes. Rolling allows me to tuck clothing into the gaps inside my carry-on and maximize every inch of space,” she says. “I reserve compression packing cubes for bulky items, like sweaters, that take up a lot of room but can easily be compressed.”

By paring back the extras, rolling everyday essentials, and letting compression cubes flatten the fluffiest layers, Curnutt proves you don’t need a massive checked trunk to travel comfortably—just a smart strategy and the freedom to get up and go.

Rob Reiner Honored With a Posthumous Emmy Nine Months After His Death

Mon, 09/07/2026 - 7:08am

Nine months after his death, Rob Reiner was posthumously honored with an Emmy for his work on The Bear. He won the award in the Guest Actor in a Comedy Series category.

Presenter Wendi McLendon-Covey accepted the award on Reiner’s behalf during a minute-long standing ovation, saying, “We all wish he was here.”

Reiner’s posthumous win marks his third Emmy win. His first was won in 1974 for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy for his role in All in the Family, and in 1978 for the same show.

In The Bear, Reiner played Albert Schnurr, a restaurant and business consultant in season 4. In an interview with People last year, Reiner revealed that fans have Jamie Lee Curtis to thank for his role.

“She had told me she was on the seasons before, and then when I was asked to do it, I said, ‘I don’t know,’ and she said, ‘No, you’ve got to do it! It’s really fun!'” Reiner said, who played exes with Curtis on New Girl.

Reiner said that The Bear ended up being “so much fun to do.”

“It’s fun to act, and I love acting because it’s no worries,” he said to People. “You just show up and do your work.”

In December, Reiner and his wife, Michele Reiner, were found stabbed to death in their Los Angeles home — their bodies were discovered by their daughter, Romy Reiner. Their son, Nick Reiner, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder, for which he pleaded not guilty. The case is still ongoing, with a pretrial scheduled for Sept. 15.

Romy made her first public appearance last month. She and her brother Jake Reiner paid tribute to their parents by throwing the first pitch at the Los Angeles Dodgers game, noting on Substack that he’ll “never go to Dodger Stadium again without feeling [his] dad’s presence.”

An edited version of the first two nights of the Emmys will air on Sept. 12 at 8 p.m. (ET), and the 78th Emmys broadcast will air on Sept. 14 at 8 p.m. (ET) on NBC.

Prince William and Kate Middleton Are Secretly Obsessed With This Hit Reality Show

Mon, 09/07/2026 - 7:05am

Prince William and Kate Middleton may be royals but they still can’t resist a bit of reality television.

Royal biographer Robert Hardman compared the leadership styles of the late Queen’s direct heirs to throne, William and his father, King Charles, in his most recent book, Elizabeth II: In Private. In Public. Her Story.

“The heir to the throne is less of a traditionalist than his father, but he is less of a radical, too,” Hardman wrote about Prince William. “The King is the one who still enjoys sitting up writing letters into the night, whereas Prince William’s idea of a fun evening, says one of his team, is to ‘sit down with the Princess in front of The Traitors.’”

The royal couple are not the only fans of the Traitors. The U.K. version of the series was the most watched most-watched British game shows of all time after its premier in 2022.

Last fall, Prince William opened up in one of his most transparent interviews with Eugene Levy on the Apple TV+ series The Reluctant Traveler. He spoke about almost everything from his parent’s divorce to Middleton’s cancer diagnosis.

Levy and the prince walked around Windsor Castle as he discussed his son George one day becoming the King of England.

“It’s an interesting question, and it’s a big question, that one,” he said. “Because there’s lots of things to think about with that.”

The prince continued, “Obviously, I want to create a world in which my son is proud of what we do, a world and a job that actually does impact people’s lives for the better. That is caveated with, I hope we don’t go back to some of the practices in the past that Harry and I had to grow up with — and I’ll do everything I can to make sure we don’t regress in that situation.”

“I think it’s safe to say that change is on my agenda. Change for good,” he said. “And I embrace that, and I enjoy that change — I don’t fear it. That’s the bit that excites me, is the idea of being able to bring some change. Not overly radical change, but changes that I think that need to happen.”

I Waited 36 Years to Tell Brian Austin Green Why I Might Still Be Grounded Because of Him... His Reaction? Worth the Wait!

Mon, 09/07/2026 - 6:49am

As Matthew Lawrence looked across our screen during our sit-down, he put it best: it felt like looking at the Marvel Cinematic Universe of 1990s television stars.

Sitting before me were the faces that shaped our collective youth, including Melissa Joan Hart (Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Clarissa Explains It All, Melissa & Joey), Joey Lawrence (Blossom, Melissa & Joey), Matthew Lawrence (Boy Meets World), Keshia Knight Pulliam (The Cosby Show), Brian Austin Green (Beverly Hills, 90210), Beverley Mitchell (7th Heaven), and Jodie Sweetin (Full House). Together, they are taking sledgehammers to honey oak cabinets, mauve-centric living rooms, and loud patterns on HGTV’s Totally ’90s House.

For me, this was far more than an interview, it was the culmination of a lifelong pop-culture obsession that defined my entire career (which I also document in detail on my Substack, The Teen Mag Time Machine).

In the summer of 1999, I stood in a Walmart aisle at 2:00 a.m. right before graduating college and saw Melissa Joan Hart on the very first cover of CosmoGIRL!. The moment I saw that neon-yellow cover, I knew with complete certainty that I had to work there (a dream I went on to live).

Confessions of a ’90s Fangirl: Am I Still Grounded Because of Brian Austin Green?

But first things first. I was a massive, diehard, all 10 seasons fan of Beverly Hills, 90210. Naturally, when Brian Austin Green popped up on screen alongside Jodie and Beverley, the first thing I had to do was get a decades-old confession off my chest!

You see, in a decade (the 90s) without smartphones, GPS, rideshare apps, or social media, 13-year-old me and my friend decided that meeting Brian Austin Green in downtown Miami was a matter of life and death. Alas, neither of our parents were available to take us. No problem! Just a few months earlier we’d successfully navigated an autograph signing to meet Luke Perry (with parental permission and adult supervision). So we did what we had to do: lie to our parents, sneak out, and hop on unfamiliar public transit to meet Brian.

The good news? We met Brian. The bad news? Our bus back home never showed, we were completely stranded in downtown Miami, and we ultimately had to call the police just to get home. Telling Brian this story nearly 36 years later—while Jodie Sweetin and Beverley Mitchell dissolved into giggles—was peak surreal joy.

And yes, I still have the newspaper clipping about that fated appearance Brian made (sadly my face did not make it into the piece).

Trading Walkmans for Tin Cans: What Their Kids Think of ’90s Tech

One of the best parts of Totally ’90s House (which airs Wednesdays on HGTV and streams the following day on HBO Max) is the teams communicate ’90s-style, from clunky car phones to messages via VCR cassette tapes. Those relics are what made the ’90s so special. And with Gen Z and Gen Alpha rediscovering the beauty of physical media, the cast shared hilarious stories of their kids tackling retro tech.

Ripping Out the Taupe: Updating the Blossom and Sabrina Sets for 2026

With Totally ’90s House tasking both teams with updating era-specific homes without destroying their nostalgic character, how would they renovate the iconic TV homes that we visited them at each week?

Joey Lawrence had no love lost for the Russo family living room on Blossom. Melissa Joan Hart, meanwhile, has her sights set on decluttering Sabrina Spellman’s famously witchy, Victorian bedroom and making sure Clarissa never has to explain her lack of closet space!

The Ultimate ’90s Power Couple: Why the Cast Can’t Stop Singing TLC

You cannot talk about the 90s without talking about TLC.  On Totally ’90s House, the girl-group royalty connection hits very close to home. Matthew Lawrence is famously dating Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, making them the undisputed dream couple for anyone who came of age in the decade.

And during our conversation, the mere mention of TLC instantly set off the group (especially Melissa who was bummed that Matthew didn’t hook her up with tickets when the group came to her town!)

1940 James Stewart Movie, With a 99% on Rotten Tomatoes, Ranked Among 'Best Movies of All Time'

Mon, 09/07/2026 - 6:47am

Actor James Stewart never really had a decade in his acting career when he wasn’t very busy, but during the 1940s, when he really solidified his star power, the actor churned out an impressive number of hit films.

While plenty of his movies are included on many lists showcasing the best films of all time, one of his first huge hits was the critically-acclaimed 1940 romantic comedy movie The Shop Around the Corner.

The flick is based on a Hungarian play called Parfumerie by Miklós László and follows two people who work at a leather goods store in Budapest and thoroughly dislike each other. Unbeknownst to either of them at first, they are falling in love with each other through anonymous letters written back and forth.

In the original movie, Stewart plays the male lead named Alfred Kralik, while actress Margaret Sullavan plays the female lead, Klara Novak. Other cast members include Frank Morgan, Joseph Schildkraut, and Sara Haden, among others.

If this plot sounds familiar to any rom-com fans, the movie went on to inspire a more modern adaptation known as You’ve Got Mail, starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.

When The Shop Around the Corner was initially released, it didn’t perform too well at the box office, although critics liked it. Photoplay called it “a gem of a movie, packed with charm, finely drawn characters and superb acting. It’s directed with the touch of insight and of delicate humor.”

Highlighting the performances in particular, the publication said of the two leads: “Stewart turns on his usual brand of boyish charm with enormous success, while Miss Sullavan plays to perfection the almost drab Klara whose spirit is superb, and whose pseudosophistication is pathetic but comic.”

Over time, the public opinion of The Shop Around the Corner has only gotten more positive. On the popular movie rating site Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an almost perfect rating of 99%. It was also added to the National Film Registry in 1999.

Over the years, there have been many remakes and adaptations of the film. The first was the musical film In the Good Old Summertime, starring Judy Garland and Van Johnson, which came out in 1949. There’s also the Broadway musical She Loves Me from the early 1960s.

The most famous adaptation is arguably Nora Ephron‘s 1998 film, which has become a classic in its own right, while there have been a few others as well.

Iconic California Band Announces Move for First Album in 15 Years

Mon, 09/07/2026 - 6:30am

All Shall Perish, the iconic deathcore band from California, is officially making its long-awaited comeback after releasing a new single.

The band, composed of lead vocalist Hernan “Eddie” Hermida, rhythm guitarist Ben Orum, lead guitarist Chris Storey and drummer Matt Kuykendall, is celebrating a major milestone as they proudly present their new music, “Be As Kings, Be As Gods.”

With the track serving as their first new single since 2011, the band is already gearing up for its first full-length album in 15 years, following the release of its fourth studio record in the same year.

In an Instagram update, All Shall Perish shared a glimpse of their new song with fans and also teased a large collection of songs that they have been working on.

“We never stopped writing music; we have tracks on tracks on tracks that we can’t wait to show you!!! Thank you all so fkn much for everything; we are back, it’s on, LFG!!! NEW SINGLE ‘Be as Kings, Be as Gods’ the caption reads.

The new track is expected to appear on the upcoming fifth album, which will follow the band’s 2011 record This Is Where It Ends.

Adding to the announcement, the band also updated supporters about its crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, a global crowdfunding platform that allows artists, musicians, creators and filmmakers to raise funds to bring their creative projects to life.

As for All Shall Perish, the crowdfunding campaign will support their first new full-length album in 15 years.

“If we hit our crowdfunding goal, we are going to drop a SECOND SONG!!! We are nothing without you guys, so fk the labels and the BS, let’s do this new album together!! YOU THE LABEL NOW!!!!” the band shared.

Based on the band’s Kickstarter page, they have already raised over $32,000 as of this writing, toward the campaign’s $75,000 goal.

In a special message to fans and supporters, All Shall Perish spoke about why it took them 15 years to release a new album.

“Fifteen years, FIFTEEN YEARS you have been waiting for new music,” the message reads. “Every single day on the internet, you let us know that just disappearing was unacceptable; you never let us forget that you were there, waiting… thanks for that btw…it kept us going through these seemingly endless years of lawsuits, fights, and setbacks.”

At the same time, they also took the opportunity to express their gratitude to fans who have kept motivating them to continue.

“We are finally blessed to be here with NO label, NO contracts, NO manager, NOTHING but YOU, the amazing fanbase that has waited too long and has done nothing but support us as we finally found a way to return! and we have quite a story to tell you about the last 15 years, the years before that and more importantly: the future,” the band said.

It can be recalled that All Shall Perish’s long period of inactivity followed Hermida’s departure to the band in 2013 to join Suicide Silence.

Two years later, the band announced a reunion of members, following a legal dispute involving the control over the band’s name, unpaid royalties and other assets.

This also paved the way for the band’s revamped lineup.

Pamela Anderson Confesses Hepatitis C Diagnosis ‘Corrupted’ Her Entire Life

Mon, 09/07/2026 - 6:26am

Pamela Anderson was diagnosed with hepatitis C in the late 1990s. At the time, there was no cure.

The Baywatch actress opened up about her experience with the viral infection during the amfAR Gala in Venice.

“It was a death sentence. That’s what my doctor told me — that I probably had around 10 years to live,” she said, according to Variety. “I’m sure that colored and corrupted my decisions. It was not fear of death, but fear of what might happen to my young children. It turned my life inside out.”

The cure for hepatitis C came out in 2011 and in 2015 she was “hep C free,” she shared, adding that “it took everything I had in my bank” to pay for treatment. On Sunday night was given amfAR’s Award of Courage. The nonprofit organization is focused on ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic but has also done work researching and advocating for hepatitis C.

“But my experience of shame and guilt was also an unconscious journey. It stays with me; it haunts me,” she said. “And just like the sexual abuse that I endured as a child, it felt like it was carved into my forehead: Damaged goods. And I presented myself as such.”

Anderson explained she has yet to “fully recovered” from her diagnosis, but has “finally come to terms” with it.

“My truth has come through my work, finding ways to express myself through the arts. It gave me the ammunition I needed, a fertile life to use and play in,” she concluded. “I’m not a victim, I’m a victor. I am strong and capable, more now than I could ever dream of … I’m not the damsel in distress, no matter how easy that role is to play.”

'70s Rock Legend and Frontwoman of the Pretenders Turns 75

Mon, 09/07/2026 - 6:25am

On Monday, Sept. 7, Chrissie Hynde, a legendary musician, singer, and songwriter, is celebrating her birthday. The frontwoman of the beloved rock band the Pretenders officially turns 75 years old.

Hynde is best known for her long career as a founding member of the Pretenders, creating the group back in the late 1970s. She’s the only member of the band to be featured on all the albums and the only living member of the original line-up along with Martin Chambers. Chambers left the group for a period of time during the 1980s and ’90s, returning in 1994.

Throughout the 1970s, Hynde tried multiple times to join rising rock bands, but in the end, she created her own demo tape that got attention in 1978 and formed her own band. The group quickly found success, with their first single, a cover of The Kinks song “Stop Your Sobbing,” breaking into the Top 40 in the U.K. in 1979.

The Pretenders, led by Hynde, kept getting bigger with each new release, and their debut studio album, Pretenders, found success worldwide. The Pretenders created many hit songs, like “Back on the Chain Gang,” “I’ll Stand by You,” and “Brass in Pocket.” Over the years, the lineup of the band has changed a bit, and Hynde remains the only constant.

1967 Monkees Hit, Written by Neil Diamond, Marked a Major First for Davy Jones

Mon, 09/07/2026 - 6:24am

During the Monkees’ heyday in the late 1960s, Micky Dolenz sang lead on the majority of the songs recorded for records and seen on The Monkees TV show. But Davy Jones also performed on his share of hits—and his first foray came in 1967. The song was “A Little Bit Me, a Little Bit You,” and while Jones had previously sung on the group’s album tracks, this was his first lead vocal on an A-side single.

Written by Neil Diamond, “A Little Bit Me, a Little Bit You” features a catchy acoustic beat, tambourines, hand claps, and a sing-along chorus about sharing the blame in a failing relationship. The song sounds way more upbeat than its lyrics let on, but it’s the Monkees, after all. “A Little Bit Me, a Little Bit You” reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in April 1967, but its release wasn’t without controversy.

Monkees manager Don Kirshner was excited to introduce the Davy Jones-fronted single to the world, so much so that he rushed to record and promote it without getting the proper approvals.

Jones recorded the song with session musicians in New York City— without fellow Monkees Dolenz, Mike Nesmith, or Peter Tork present, according to American Songwriter. Kirshner then ordered a picture sleeve to be printed up using an old photoshoot that no one approved. The music manager also had promotional pressings of the “A Little Bit Me, a Little Bit You” single printed with “My Favorite Monkee – Davy Jones Sings” on the label, and he released the song in Canada.

Kirshner was ultimately fired for the unauthorized record release and for forbidding the band to play their own instruments.

Jones once addressed Kirshner’s involvement in the single.

“They put a single out at this point in Canada, you know, ‘My Favorite Monkee, Davy Jones ‘ or something, you know,” he said in the 2000 documentary Daydream Believers: The Monkees Story. “They put “A Little Bit Me, a Little Bit You” out, or a Neil Diamond tune. But then obviously, you’ve got all these publishers that own the rights to these songs, whether they be the top songwriters, and they must be making phone calls to Kirshner and to the music department of the studio, you know, wanting to get their artists’ songs into the show or own our records, so… and I knew nothing about any of that. “

While Jones would later have a bigger hit with the No. 1 song “Daydream Believer” in December 1967, “A Little Bit Me, a Little Bit You” still holds a special place in fans’ hearts nearly 60 years later.

1974 Alison Arngrim, Who Called Little House's Villain 'Kismet' at 12, Is Rotten and Unrecognizable on Netflix in 2026

Mon, 09/07/2026 - 6:18am

Alison Arngrim was 12 years old when she was cast as Nellie Oleson on Little House on the Prairie. She was hired immediately. She knew right away the role was hers. “It was that kind of kismet chemistry immediately,” she tells PEOPLE ahead of the Little House cast reunion at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville from September 11 to 13. Fifty-two years later, she’s back on Netflix‘s new Little House reboot. You won’t recognize her.

She knew exactly what she was walking into from the moment she got the role. “I grew up in a house full of actors. I knew what it meant to be the villain. And I always liked villains in shows. I just did. So, it was a huge day for me,” she explains.

NBC / Getty Images

Getting cast in a role at 12, most young actors would shy away from it, but it didn’t intimidate her at all. It thrilled her. “I am the villain. I have managed to snag the villain role,” she recalls thinking. Michael Landon saw what she saw. “She jumped off the page at me, and I saw it, and he saw it, and boom.” Not all actresses can say that about the role that defines their career. Arngrim can.

What she couldn’t know was what Nellie Oleson would actually do. “Never in my wildest dreams did I think Nellie would continue to do the kind of stuff she did,” she says, laughing. “I could never imagine that she was going to be so awful that she was going to pretend to be paralyzed and get pushed down a hill in a wheelchair.” She laughs at it now.

The girl who felt kismet getting a villain role at 12 never anticipated the villain would go quite that far. But she did. And the character worked because she wasn’t just mean, she was intentional and specific, mostly toward Melissa Gilbert’s Laura Ingalls. Not generically mean but specifically petty. Faking paralysis is specific. Getting pushed down a hill in a wheelchair is specific. That specificity is what made Nellie Oleson iconic rather than merely unpleasant.

One of those moments came with help from an unexpected direction. On the Little House Fifty for 50 Podcast, Arngrim recalled being 13 on set, reading horror comics about werewolves and zombies between takes. “They’re very, very gory and fabulous. I was 13.” Veteran actor Victor French noticed. When she needed to access a particularly dark moment for Nellie, he said: “Think of your werewolf comic books.” The result was immediate. “You just see this fabulous beautiful smile just overtake me,” she recalled. French’s reaction: “Yes. That’s it.” She credits him completely. “He absolutely rah-rah’d cheered me through it.”

From Nellie Oleson to Rotten Teeth

Arngrim says she’s surprised and humbled by the continued love for Nellie. Fifty years later, people are still watching and still responding, and still loving to hate her. And she’s proved the character’s staying power with a new role that couldn’t be further from Nellie’s pristine ringlets and cruel smile. In Netflix’s new Little House on the Prairie reboot currently streaming, Arngrim plays Ida — a forest-dwelling drifter living in the woods with a group of fellow drifters. The production painted her teeth to look rotten and her nails were made to look diseased. “All my beautiful nails, my beautiful teeth and my beautiful skin. Out the window,” she said. She received the offer two weeks before filming. She said yes immediately. Some habits don’t change.

The Little House cast reunion at the Grand Ole Opry runs September 11 to 13 — four days from now. For only three days, LHOTP cast members will be in Nashville. Joining Arngrim are Rachel and Sidney Greenbush (Carrie Ingalls), Charlotte Stewart (Miss Beadle), Dean Butler (Almanzo Wilder), Pamela Roylance (Sarah Carter), Stan Ivar (John Carter), Wendi Lou Lee (Baby Grace), Jennifer Donati (Baby Rose), and Todd Bridges (Solomon). Tickets available here.

Alison Arngrim was 12 when she called Nellie Oleson kismet. She didn’t know Nellie would fake paralysis or get pushed down a hill or make an entire generation feel genuine hatred for a fictional character in pigtails. She didn’t know Netflix would one day paint her teeth rotten and hide her in the woods. The Netflix reboot is proof that the prairie isn’t finished with any of them. Fifty-two years is a long time. Some kismet runs deeper than anyone expects.

Experiencing 'Ozempic Face'? Dermatologists Say You Need These 3 Plumping Ingredients

Mon, 09/07/2026 - 6:16am

Most people who start a GLP-1 medication like Ozempic are not thinking about their cheekbones. They’re thinking about their health, blood sugar, energy levels or maybe some new jeans they might buy. And then a few months in, something shifts in the mirror. The weight loss is working, but the face in the reflection looks a little hollowed out and a little more tired. The smile lines may be deeper and the cheeks that used to be full are doing something different now, and it’s not exactly what you were hoping for.

This is what’s become known as “Ozempic face,” and while the name is informal, the experience is very real for a significant number of people on GLP-1 medications. The good news is that dermatologists have thoughts. The better news is that some of those thoughts involve things you can do at home right now, today, without an appointment. The realistic news is that some of the structural stuff is going to require a conversation with a professional. We’ll get to all of it.

To sort through what’s actually happening and what you can actually do about it, we talked to six experts—Dr. Robert Schwarcz, double board-certified oculofacial plastic surgeon in New York City; Dr. Kseniya Kobets, Director of Cosmetic Dermatology at Montefiore Einstein Advanced Care; Dr. Mike Ellis, medical director of Keep Glowing Medical Spa; Dr. Jodi LoGerfo, celebrity skin expert and DNP; Dr. Chang Son, board-certified dermatologist; and Dr. Kenneth Mark, cosmetic dermatologist.

What Is ‘Ozempic Face’ and Why Does It Happen?

“Ozempic face” isn’t a medical diagnosis. Instead, it’s the colloquial name for what happens when rapid fat loss outpaces the skin’s ability to adapt. As Dr. Mark explains, the face loses fat along with the rest of the body, and “that can become especially noticeable in people who have lost weight quickly.”

The mechanism goes deeper than simple fat loss, though. Dr. LoGerfo shares that GLP-1 receptors are found in both fat cells and skin-supporting cells, and when activated, they may decrease production of substances that normally protect and repair the skin.

Dr. Kobets adds that emerging research points to a specific layer called dermal white adipose tissue—a thin, biologically active fat layer that communicates with fibroblasts and releases collagen-supporting signals.

“Ozempic face is probably not just one thing,” Dr. Kobets tells Parade. “Overall weight loss remains the main driver, but emerging research suggests GLP-1 medications may also influence the biologically active fat and signaling systems that help support the skin.”

Unfortunately, when weight loss is rapid, the face loses fat before the skin has time to adapt, according to Cleveland Clinic. So, someone who loses the same amount of weight slowly may experience far fewer noticeable changes than someone who loses it quickly on medication.

What Does Ozempic Face Look Like (And Is It Permanent)?

The presentation is pretty consistent across patients: hollowed cheeks and temples, sunken-looking eyes, more prominent bone structure, deeper nasolabial folds and marionette lines, and skin laxity along the jaw and neck.

Dr. Ellis adds that GLP-1 medications suppress appetite enough that some patients eat much less, which can lead to dehydration. “We get about 20% of our daily hydration from our foods,” he explains, and dehydration creates its own category of fine lines on top of the structural changes.

Is it permanent? Well, that’s a complicated answer. Dr. Kobets distinguishes between surface issues and structural ones. Dehydration and mild barrier changes can improve relatively quickly once weight stabilizes, she says.

Dr. LoGerfo recommends waiting until weight has been stable for at least three to six months before pursuing in-office correction, since the medication remains in circulation for about five weeks after the last dose and facial changes continue to evolve. “If you start facial work before the weight is stabilized, you are chasing a moving target,” she says.

Can Topicals and Skincare Actually Fix Structural Facial Volume Loss?

No, the experts say topical products work within the skin’s outer layers—they cannot replace lost fat pads, rebuild retaining ligaments, restore muscle or reverse bone changes. “Skincare can improve the quality of the fabric, but it cannot rebuild the scaffolding underneath it,” Dr. Kobets tells Parade.

What skincare can do is improve the skin envelope over those structures. Better hydration, a repaired barrier, softer fine lines, improved texture and collagen support within the dermis can make the face look healthier, smoother and more refreshed.

Dr. Kobets also says that products claiming to grow new facial fat are extremely suspicious. “There is currently no strong independent human evidence that topical sarsasapogenin, marketed as Volufiline, meaningfully restores facial adipose tissue,” she explains. (Good to know before anyone spends a lot on that particular promise.)

The 3 Plumping Ingredients Dermatologists Recommend for Ozempic Face

Here are the expert-backed ingredients to look for to combat facial volume loss.

1. Retinoids

The most evidence-backed ingredient for collagen support within the dermis. Prescription tretinoin has the strongest data, but over-the-counter retinol is a reasonable and more tolerable starting point. Dr. Schwarcz recommends starting at a low concentration like 0.1% a few nights a week, always with a rich moisturizer.

Dr. Kobets notes that retinoids stimulate collagen production, reduce collagen breakdown and improve both epidermal and dermal thickness over time—making them “the closest of these ingredients to producing a meaningful structural improvement within the skin.” Apply in the evening only, and since retinoids increase sun sensitivity, morning sunscreen is non-negotiable.

2. Humectants like hyaluronic acid and glycerin

These are the ingredients doing the immediate visible work. Hyaluronic acid attracts and retains water in the upper layers of the skin, quickly softening fine lines and creating a fuller appearance. Apply it to slightly damp skin for best absorption.

Glycerin, as Dr. Kobets points out, is “one of the most reliable and underrated ingredients for improving hydration and supporting the skin barrier.” Neither replaces lost fat, but well-hydrated skin visibly looks more plump and healthy—and for skin that’s been through the drying effects of GLP-1 medication, this matters more than usual.

3. Peptides

Dr. Ellis likes GHK-Cu, a copper peptide that can support fibroblasts involved in producing collagen, elastin and other structural matrix components—while also calming inflammation.

Dr. Kobets says peptides have less data than retinoids, but are a strong complement to a broader anti-aging routine, particularly when skin quality has been affected by rapid weight loss.

Honorable mention

Dr. Son and Dr. Mark also both include vitamin C as an honorable mention and recommended bonus ingredient—it supports collagen synthesis as a cofactor and provides antioxidant protection against the oxidative stress that accelerates collagen breakdown. Apply in the morning with SPF.

How To Use Plumping Ingredients in Your Daily Routine for Maximum Volume

The morning routine is about protection and hydration: gentle cleanser, vitamin C serum, hyaluronic acid on slightly damp skin, ceramide-containing moisturizer and broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher.

“Healthy, hydrated skin will always look better, but it’s important to have realistic expectations about what skincare alone can accomplish,” Dr. Mark says. Consistent daily sunscreen is especially critical because UV exposure accelerates collagen breakdown—which is counterproductive when you’re simultaneously trying to support collagen.

The evening routine is where collagen stimulation happens: gentle cleanser, retinoid on dry skin starting two to three nights weekly and building as tolerated, followed by a moisturizer rich in ceramides and glycerin.

Dr. Kobets suggests the “sandwich method” for sensitive skin—moisturizer, retinoid and then another layer of moisturizer—to reduce irritation without sacrificing efficacy. Dr. Ellis adds a peptide serum before the retinoid step for additional collagen support. Include the neck and chest in whatever routine you’re doing for your face—the complaints about crepiness below the jawline are just as common, and often less addressed.

When Should You See a Dermatologist for Volumizing In-Office Treatments?

Earlier than most people think, but not necessarily before weight has stabilized. Dr. Kobets recommends an early consultation to assess baseline facial anatomy and develop a thoughtful plan, saying that conservative collagen-stimulating treatments may be appropriate before or during weight loss in selected patients.

But for more substantial volumization, she generally prefers waiting until the weight-loss trajectory has slowed. Dr. LoGerfo’s three-to-six month post-stabilization window is the most conservative estimate.

For structural hollowing, hyaluronic acid fillers provide the most immediate targeted volume. Dr. Mark specifically points to Voluma for cheeks and temples and Volux—the only FDA-approved filler specifically designed for the jawline—as options he uses.

Biostimulatory injectables like Sculptra and hyperdilute Radiesse stimulate collagen more gradually and can address both volume loss and overall skin quality. For patients where significant laxity is the primary concern, energy-based tightening treatments—radiofrequency microneedling, ultrasound-based devices—improve texture and mild laxity. And for more advanced loose skin, Dr. Schwarcz says a facelift or neck lift may provide better long-term results than increasingly large amounts of filler.

Dr. Son’s advice is to start the conversation with a dermatologist when you start the GLP-1, not after. The patients who fare best are the ones who anticipated the changes and built a plan before they became the problem.

1987: Linda Ronstadt Risked Everything on What Execs Called a Fatal Career Mistake

Mon, 09/07/2026 - 6:13am

By late 1987, Linda Ronstadt was widely regarded as the most versatile female vocalist in music history.

Over two decades, she had conquered arena rock, dominated pop radio, recorded multi-platinum big band standards, and starred on Broadway in The Pirates of Penzance. But there was still one avenue she had yet to tackle, and it was the closest to her heart.

The project, called Canciones de Mi Padre, was an album of songs sung entirely in Spanish. It was a love letter to her Mexican heritage, a reminder of the songs she and her family sang together as a young girl.

However, her record company, Elektra, wasn’t entirely on board with the project. In the CNN Films documentary Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice, the company responded with disbelief when she shared her idea for the project.

“Record archaic songs from the ranches of Mexico? And all in Spanish? Impossible!” she recalled being told.

Ronstadt continued, “As a family, we always sang in Spanish. Even though I didn’t understand much of what I was singing, it was something that I learned to do. It’s kind of like lip-reading, you know. I used to kind of chameleon in harmony along with my father.”

The entertainer added, “I went to the president of my record company, who’s a man who genuinely likes music. And I said, ‘Look, I made all these records for you … I’m going to do this just for me.’”

She concluded, “This might be self-indulgent. If it sells two copies, I don’t care. But if I can’t record this music, I’m going to die.”

View this post on Instagram

Ronstadt’s instincts were correct. Her Instagram page shared that the LP would go on to become the “best-selling non-English-language album in the history of American recorded music for 30-plus years.”

She told AARP the project’s inspiration came from the music of her childhood. She was raised in Tucson, Arizona, 40 miles north of the Mexican border.

“I grew up listening to Mexican music. My family is Mexican, and I always identified as Mexican culturally, even though I have a German surname. There are a lot of Germans in northern Mexico who married Mexicans, which is the case of my grandfather.”

Ronstadt added, “This was music that I learned from my grandfather, and he learned from his father and that I learned again from my father. I remember my dad singing in Spanish and playing on the guitar, harmonizing with his brothers and my grandfather singing and playing on the solo guitar.”

“I didn’t speak very good Spanish as a child, so I thought Spanish was the language you sang in and English was the language you spoke. To me, Spanish was always a musical language,” she concluded.

The LP had the musical direction of bandleader Rubén Fuentes and featured some of the world’s finest Mariachi bands, including Mariachi Vargas De Tecalitlán, Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano, Mariachi Los Galleros de Pedro Rey, and Mariachi Sol de México de José Hernández reported Goldmine.

Canciones de mi Padre won a 1987 Grammy Award for Best Mexican-American Album and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2021 and into the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress in 2022.

A Theme Park Expert Reveals the Must-Try Bites at Disney World’s Halloween Party and Disney Springs

Mon, 09/07/2026 - 6:10am

While Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party has long been celebrated for the Boo-to-You Parade, costumed character meet-and-greets, and trick-or-treating along Main Street, U.S.A., the after-hours event has quietly transformed into something else entirely: an all-out seasonal food festival.

Running on select nights through October 31, 2026, at Magic Kingdom, the separately ticketed party grants admission as early as 4:00 PM before festivities officially kick off at 7:00 PM (tickets can be secured via Disneyworld.com/Halloween, with discounts for Annual Passholders and Disney Vacation Club members).

Alongside the entertainment lineup, Disney’s culinary team has unleashed an ambitious roster of exclusive treats that stretch far beyond standard pumpkin-spice cupcakes, introducing savory handheld bites, villain-inspired creations, and seasonal drinks across both the theme park and Disney Springs.

“Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party has evolved into a bona fide Halloween-themed food festival,” says Carly Caramanna, travel and theme park journalist and author of the upcoming book The Unofficial Disney Parks Retro Cookbook: 60+ Nostalgic Recipes and Stories of Yesteryear. “For me, it’s reason alone to return to the mega popular after-hours events each year. And I look forward to trying new creations each year—especially since they’ve made a concerted effort to add more exciting savory options alongside enticing sweets.”

What to Taste Inside the Magic Kingdom

Caramanna, who stress-tests dozens of seasonal theme park dishes each autumn, already has her game plan mapped out for the party.

At the top of her list is a fiery sweet over in Tomorrowland: “When I visit this year, I plan to beeline it directly to The Lunching Pad for a brand new, party exclusive treat. The Hades Cake Pop is a photo-worthy cake pop with Mexican hot chocolate cake,” notes Caramanna. The dessert is dipped in rich chocolate, spiked with popping candies, and topped with blue marshmallow “flames.”

On the savory front, she recommends keeping an eye out for a fan-favorite returning to Fantasyland: “I’m also happy to see the buffalo chicken hand pie from Friar’s Nook returning, which was no doubt a foodie highlight last year.” The dish wraps tender buffalo chicken and melted mozzarella inside a flaky crust, finished with tangy blue cheese crumbles and buffalo-ranch drizzle.

Other standout park-exclusive dishes grabbing foodie attention this season include:

  • Doom Buggy Dumplings (Sleepy Hollow Refreshments): Steamed chicken dumplings tossed in a bold red miso gochujang sauce, topped with crunchy furikake and chili threads.
  • Cursed Cowboy Fries (Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Cafe): Sweet potato fries piled high with smoky barbecue burnt ends, chipotle queso, pico de gallo, and crispy jalapeños.
  • Headless Horseman Treat (Casey’s Corner): A pumpkin pie tart layered with whipped cheesecake, spiced caramel panna cotta, candied pecans, and marshmallow buttercream.

Don’t Skip Disney Springs: The Secret Spooky Food Hub

You don’t necessarily need a party ticket to sample some of Disney’s best autumn culinary creations. Just a quick bus or boat ride away, Disney Springs has quietly become an essential fall foodie stop in its own right—specifically inside an adventure-themed lounge.

“Of all the seasonal bites, I’m most looking forward to the limited-time menu coming to Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar,” explains Caramanna. “Since the Halloween overlay debuted last year, it’s become home to some of the best seasonal eats (and the décor is fantastic). I’m still thinking about last year’s Alien Invader Sliders with Nashville hot fried chicken, which will be returning.”

For new creations hitting the Hangar Bar, Caramanna has her eye on a mix of sweet, spicy, and boozy offerings: “This year the menu doesn’t disappoint. At the top of my list to try is a new espresso martini flight, cleverly named the Fright of the Espresso, and the Midnight Mayhem Popcorn chicken, with candied bacon and hot honey.”

Whether you are packing an appetite for after-hours party roaming or making an afternoon cocktail crawl through Disney Springs, this year’s seasonal menus prove that Halloween at Disney is best experienced with a fork in hand.

Kelly Osbourne Breaks Silence on Shocking Weight Loss After Father Ozzy's Death

Mon, 09/07/2026 - 6:00am

Kelly Osbourne is opening up about her weight loss after her father, Ozzy Osbourne, died in 2025.

The 41-year-old reality star told the Daily Mail on September 6 she had “no idea” how much smaller she was in 2025. She saw a photo of herself in a fitting the 2026 Grammy Awards and was shocked.

“I looked like the f—ing Crypt Keeper,” Osbourne said, referencing the skelton-like character from the Tales from the Crypt franchise.

“I said, ‘This is scary. I didn’t know I looked like this,’” she continued. “My spine — you could see every single bone. I couldn’t see what other people saw because I was in so much pain. I just saw a broken person.”

Her father died from “out of hospital cardiac arrest” and “acute myocardial infarction,” coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s disease with autonomic dysfunction stated as “joint causes,” according to the death certificate obtained by People. He was 76 years old.

She said her team looked for something for her to wear that would not emphasize the weight loss.

“They knew I was going through something. So, we were trying to find clothes to not make me look skinnier,” she recalled. “I was scared. I wanted to be there to support my mom [Sharon Osbourne] and to pay tribute to my father’s legacy, [but] I don’t think I should have gone. I wasn’t very well.”

After her father died she struggled with the loss to the point she couldn’t eat.

“You’re filled with so much pain that the feeling of hunger can’t even pop up,” she explained.

Osbourne is working on a three-part documentary that tells her experience with grief

“I’m [telling] my story because there’s a lot that people don’t know,” she said. “The person I was before my dad died is dead. That person doesn’t exist anymore.”

Legendary Songwriter, Who Wrote a Massive Hit For 14-Year-Old LeAnn Rimes, Turns 70

Mon, 09/07/2026 - 5:26am

In 1997, 14-year-old LeAnn Rimes recorded a song that almost didn’t get released, only to see it become one of the biggest hits of the decade.

“How Do I Live” was written by Diane Warren for the 1997 Nicolas Cage action movie Con Air. Rimes was initially commissioned to record the song, but the film’s producers ultimately decided her performance lacked the maturity they wanted and brought in country star Trisha Yearwood to record another version. Yearwood’s rendition was used in the movie.

Rimes’ label, Curb Records, initially planned to shelve her recording, but Warren personally called label head Mike Curb and urged him to release it as a single. It turned out to be quite a call: Rimes’ “How Do I Live” climbed all the way to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Now, nearly three decades later, Warren is celebrating a milestone of her own. The legendary songwriter turns 70 on Sept. 7.

Warren was born Sept. 7, 1956, in Van Nuys, Calif., and began writing music when she was just 11 years old, getting more serious about songwriting by age 14. Her mother encouraged her to pursue a more conventional career, but Warren’s father supported her musical ambitions, buying her a 12-string guitar and a metal shed where she could practice. Warren later wrote Celine Dion’s “Because You Loved Me” as a tribute to her father and his support of her dreams.

Her first major hit arrived with Laura Branigan’s “Solitaire,” which reached No. 7 in 1983. Two years later came DeBarge’s “Rhythm of the Night,” and Warren’s résumé exploded from there.

She wrote Starship’s “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now,” Chicago’s “Look Away,” Bad English’s “When I See You Smile,” Cher’s “If I Could Turn Back Time,” Toni Braxton’s “Un-Break My Heart,” Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” and dozens more.

At one point, Warren became the first songwriter in Billboard history to have seven songs performed by seven different artists on the singles chart simultaneously. Over the course of her career, nine Warren compositions have reached No. 1 on the Hot 100, while 33 have cracked the Top 10.

But even among that staggering catalog, “How Do I Live” stands out.

Rimes’ version spent a record-breaking 69 weeks on the Hot 100, including 32 weeks in the Top 10 and 25 weeks in the Top 5. It spent five nonconsecutive weeks at No. 2 and topped the Adult Contemporary chart for 11 weeks.

The song also earned Warren an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song, although it lost the Oscar to Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” from Titanic.

Warren’s accolades extend far beyond that nomination. She is a Grammy, Emmy and two-time Golden Globe winner, a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame and a recipient of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She has received 17 competitive Academy Award nominations, the most of any individual without a competitive win, and received an honorary Oscar at the Governors Awards in 2022.

And at 70, Warren is still adding to her extraordinary catalog.

In 2023, Taylor Swift released “Say Don’t Go,” which she and Warren had written together a decade earlier, on 1989 (Taylor’s Version). The song debuted at No. 5 on the Hot 100, giving Warren her first Top 10 hit on the chart in 22 years.

After more than four decades of hits, Warren’s songs have connected generations of performers who might otherwise seem to have little in common. Cher, Chicago, Celine Dion, Aerosmith, LeAnn Rimes and Taylor Swift all have at least one thing connecting them: a Diane Warren song.
