2004 Hit Action Film, Inspired by Best-Selling Book, Is Suddenly Climbing the Charts 22 Years Later
A 2004 sci-fi, action blockbuster film is experiencing an unexpected resurgence 22 years after its theatrical release.
I, Robot, a movie directed by Alex Proyas, was inspired by the works of one of the greatest and most influential science fiction authors of all time, Isaac Asimov, and his best-selling 1950 short story collection of the same name.
Set in 2035 in Chicago, it follows Detective Del Spooner, played by Will Smith, a homicide investigator tasked with looking into the suspicious death of a leading robotics scientist.
Throughout his investigation, Spooner, who distrusts technology due to a traumatic past, begins suspecting that some of the robots may be capable of independent thought, emotional reasoning and even violence despite their programmed restrictions.
Apart from its intriguing storyline, the sci-fi action thriller film featured an impressive cast lineup, with Bridget Moynahan, Alan Tudyk, James Cromwell, Bruce Greenwood, Chi McBride and Shia LaBeouf joining Smith as lead stars.

Decades after its release and with the rise of AI and rapid advancements in modern technology, the film is proving to be more relevant today than ever before.
The Will Smith-led movie recently made it onto Huluâs top movies chart after I, Robot officially became available on the streaming platform on May 1.
I, Robot Marked Will Smithâs Unstoppable Run as Hollywoodâs Biggest Box Office StarWith a production budget of around $120 million, the sci-fi movie became a significant commercial success after turning into a blockbuster hit.
Not only did it top the box office upon its release, but it also earned over $353 million in global ticket sales.
During its opening weekend, the movie grossed approximately $52.2 million and debuted at No. 1 in North America, knocking Spider-Man 2 from the top spot.
Following its box-office success, I, Robot received various nominations from major award-giving bodies, including a nomination for Best Achievement in Visual Effects at the 77th Academy Awards.
At the same time, Will Smith earned a Best Actor nomination at the BET Awards.
Speaking of the actor, the sci-fi movie arrived during an unprecedented hot streak that cemented Will Smith as Hollywood's most bankable leading man.
After his breakthrough in the 1990s hit sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, viewers got to see Smith take on more challenging roles.
From acclaimed dramatic performances in Six Degrees of Separation, Ali and The Pursuit of Happyness to blockbuster action-comedies like the Bad Boys franchise, he continued to headline major box office hits throughout the 2000s, including Men in Black, Independence Day and, of course, I, Robot, further cementing his status as one of Hollywoodâs biggest box office stars.

Patio season is back in full effect, and if you arenât already reading this while soaking up some sun with a drink in hand, then consider this your reminder to get outdoors and enjoy the vibes. Itâs the perfect time of year to kick back and relax in a hammock while watching the trees and flowers dance on the crest of a gentle breeze. The sweet smell of charcoal perfuming the air mixed with the feeling of unbridled possibility is intoxicating.Â
No wonder it feels like our batteries are being charged the more times we fire up the grill and spend all day outside. That and a bottomless pitcher of margaritas, and we might end up parked outside until the leaves start to change colors. Drinks and patio season are practically synonymous, and regardless of whatâs actually in your glass, itâs important that your drinking vessel matches the vibe.Â

1982 Classic Song Inspired by Iranâs Ban on Rock Music Became The Bandâs Biggest U.S. Hit
When the English rock band The Clash came out with their song "Rock the Casbah" in 1982, it was a satirical reaction to the ban on Western music in Iran set to an irresistible beat. The band likely had no idea that it would go on to become their biggest hit in the United States ever.
The track was the group's second official single on their fifth studio album, Combat Rock, which was released on May 14, 1982. Along with "Rock the Casbah," the other singles were "Know Your Rights" and "Should I Stay or Should I Go / Straight to Hell." The album was the last from The Clash to feature the band's classic lineup that included members Joe Strummer, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon, and Nicky "Topper" Headon.
"Rock the Casbah" is one of the band's most unique songs. The track tells the story of a ruler who tries to outlaw rock music, and how all the citizens fight back against the censorship. The Clash wrote the lyrics in reaction to the ban on Western music in Iran following the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Strummer opened up about writing the lyrics for the song in an interview with Rolling Stone shortly before he died in 2002, via Rocking in the Norselands. He said that he initially wrote the line, "The King told the boogie men You gotta get that raga drop," after a discussion with the band's manager.
"I looked at it and for some reason I started to think about what someone had told me earlier, that you get lashed for owning a disco album in Iran," Stummer went on. Topper composed the music for the hit song.
"Rock the Casbah" was an impressive success for The Clash, and it became their highest-charting song in the U.S., reaching No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Millie Bobby Brown's First Mother's Day Post Had a Special Message for Adoptive Moms
Millie Bobby Brown has spent most of the past year keeping her life as a new mother deliberately private. On Sunday, she stepped into it publicly in a way that was somehow both softer and more meaningful than many celebrity Mother's Day posts manage to be.
Brown, 22, marked her first Mother's Day by sharing an Instagram Story that named and honored nearly a dozen different types of mothers, the hopeful mom-to-be, the exhausted mom, the grieving mom, the single mom, the mom figure who stepped up, and, specifically, the foster or adoptive mom. For Brown, that last category is personal. Last August, she and her husband Jake Bongiovi (son of rock legend Jon Bon Jovi) announced that they had adopted a baby girl, writing on Instagram: 'This summer, we welcomed our sweet baby girl through adoption. We are beyond excited to embark on this beautiful next chapter of parenthood in both peace and privacy.' She was 21 years old at the time.
In the months since, Brown has shared very little about her daughter publicly, a deliberate choice she has discussed in interviews. 'For me, it's really important to protect her and her story until she's old enough to potentially one day share it herself,' she told British Vogue in November 2025. 'It's not my place to purposefully put her in the spotlight unwillingly.' In February, on her 22nd birthday, she posted a rare photo of herself and her daughter at the beach, both in matching teddy bear jackets, writing simply, 'grateful for my husband and daughter. I am so blessed.'
Sunday's Mother's Day post fit the same pattern. Rather than just the photograph, the focus was on the message and the varied list, a deliberate acknowledgment that motherhood takes many forms, and that all of them count. For adoptive families in particular, that kind of recognition from a high-profile figure carries real weight, arriving at a moment when Brown's own story has drawn wide attention to what building a family outside traditional paths can look like. 'Being a mother expedited this version of me,' she told Allure earlier this year. 'Nothing could get in the way of me being who I need to be for my daughter.'

Bongiovi, 24, has been described by Brown as 'the most amazing dad' and the two share parenting equally, by her account. The family lives on a farm in Georgia alongside an assortment of rescue animals that Brown documents with considerably more frequency than her daughter. The Stranger Thingsfranchise that made Brown famous wrapped its final season late last year. Her next major project, Enola Holmes 3, arrives on Netflixon July 1, 2026, where she also serves as a producer.
How I Pack for a 7-Day Hawaii Vacation with a Single Carry-on
Visiting Hawaii is something that most stateside Americans dream of. Its gorgeous beaches, vibrant culture, and awe-inspiring landscape can feel like a once in a lifetime opportunity to see. Now, letâs say that youâve booked a trip to Oâahu. Flights are expensiveâand you want to save as much money as you can. Traveling with just a carry-on is a great way to do that. With the cheapest economy seat available, you can end up saving hundreds of dollars on your flights alone.
Youâre probably wondering, can I really fit a week's worth of vacation gear in just a carry-on? Iâm here to tell you that itâs more than possible. My expertise comes from a year of touring the country on a Broadway production with a single suitcase and spending five years living in the notoriously tight quarters of cruise ships. And for countless years, Iâve been taking trips around the world with just a carry-on. I love how easy it is to travel with just a small suitcase, how I donât have to spend extra time at airports handling baggage drop or pickup, and how the worry of losing my luggage isnât even a thought in my mind.Â
Iâm going to walk you through exactly what Iâd pack for a week in Oâahu, Hawaii. Now, there are a few things to keep in mind: the weather is warm and humid, there will be lots of days spent relaxing on the beach, and you may want to pack clothing appropriate for outdoor exploring as well. Now, letâs get into it!

Three Tops and Three Bottoms every item can be mixed and matchedMelissa Cabey
For this trip, Iâm really going to stick to the rule of threes. Each category will most likely get three of each. Letâs start with the tops. I chose three tops that are simple, breathable, and can match all of my bottoms. A white t-shirt never fails, and two different colored tank tops are great to alternate between.Â
For the bottoms, I went with three pairs of shorts. All three are cotton, but offer a different shape, color, and style. The first pair is a pair of white shorts that have structured pockets. The next pair is a thin and loose pink flowery pair, which are perfect for throwing on over a bathing suit. The last pair are a deep yellow color, they are a bit longer, and can be dressed up in the evening or worn casually during the day.
All together, this gives you nine possible outfit combinations just from the tops and bottoms alone. That in itself would last you more than a week, but you donât want to just wear the same tops and bottoms all week long, do you? Don't worry, I have more for you.

Three Dresses sundresses are versatile and funMelissa Cabey
Sun dresses are perfect for a Hawaii vacation. I decided to pack three of my most fun and vibrant sun dresses, perfect for the atmosphere in Hawaii. Two of the dresses are a linen-cotton blend, which provides great breathability but a little bit of structure. These dresses are incredibly versatileâthey can be worn to a visit to the beach, during the day on a shopping spree, or out to dinner when paired with a dressier pair of shoes or accessories. The final dress is a classic loose sundress, one that is perfect for daywear. Itâs incredibly comfortable, is flowy so it wonât feel hindering when I get hot and sweaty, and itâs cute. A win all around!

Bathing Suits and ActivewearMelissa Cabey
Visiting Hawaii, youâre going to spend a lot of time at the beach. I decided to bring three of my favorite bikinis, which I will be able to rotate through during the week. If you are one of those people who would rather have a different bathing suit for each day, you can most likely still fit those in your bagâif you use a compression packing cube, that is! I still had a bit of extra room, so go for it! Personally, for me, I like to keep it simple and stick to three options.
In Oâahu, you might be heading out for a hike (you canât miss those iconic waterfalls). In that case, youâll want an activewear outfit that is easy to pack, durable, and breathable. I packed a simple black biketard, which can fold up to be very small, and itâs the perfect look for a hike in Hawaii.

Accessories, Shoes, Necessities, and Everything In Between Toiletries and accessories shouldn't take up that much room in your carry-onMelissa Cabey
I always throw my undergarments and a pair of pajamas in a small compression packing cube (not pictured) and it barely takes up any room. After that, I go in with the remaining items that Iâll need. For this trip, I packed one fashion scarf, one baseball hat, and a container of jewelry. This will help to give variety in my outfits each day.
Then, I packed my bag of makeup, a hair tool, a brush, and toiletries. One of my key tips for toiletries is to go for as many solid products as possible. I use bars of shampoo, conditioner, and body soap at home, and for trips, I just put them in a ziplock bag and put them in my toiletry case. Then, I bring face lotion, deodorant, a razor, a toothbrush, and toothpaste. Since youâll be out in the sun in Hawaii a ton, I recommend buying a container of reef-safe sunscreen to use throughout the week once you land on the island.
Adding extra shoes will take up unnecessary room in your carry-onMelissa Cabey
For shoes, I decided to go for three simple pairs. One is a classic sandal, one that can be worn both at the beach and out walking around town. One pair is specifically dedicated to outdoor adventures. For that, I chose a pair of Tevas, which let my feet breathe in the heat, but offer support for a hike. Lastly, I packed a summery pair of ballet flats, which can be worn during the day or evening. I will wear that pair on the plane, which will save some room in the carry-on.
Lastly, you will have a personal item to bring as well. I usually bring a large shoulder bag. In there, I pack my medications, snacks, a book, electronics and anything else that I think I might need for the trip.

Maximize Your Aloha Spirit: Pro Packing Tips for O'ahuPacking light for the islands is about more than just dodging baggage fees; itâs about having the freedom to hop from a North Shore surf session to a Waikiki sunset dinner without being weighed down. To truly master the carry-on-only lifestyle in Hawaii, keep these expert-level strategies in mind.
- Prioritize Natural Fibers: Hawaiiâs humidity is no joke. While polyester might look cute, linen and cotton are your best friends. They wick moisture away from your body and dry much faster if you get caught in a sudden tropical afternoon shower. If you do pack synthetics, make sure they have moisture-wicking technology.
- Master the "Personal Item" Multi-Tasker: Your shoulder bag shouldn't just hold your plane snacksâit should double as your beach tote. Choose a high-quality, lightweight canvas or mesh bag that can transition from the overhead bin to the sand at Lanikai Beach.
- The "Wear Your Weight" Rule: Space is at a premium, so always wear your bulkiest items on the flight. Even though youâre heading to the tropics, planes are notoriously cold. Wear your heaviest pair of sneakers or hiking shoes and a lightweight denim jacket or pashmina on the plane; youâll appreciate the extra layer during the flight and the extra room in your suitcase.
- Go Reef-Safe for the Environment: As mentioned, sunscreen is a necessity, but Hawaii has strict regulations to protect its delicate coral reefs. To save room in your liquids bag, don't pack a giant tube from home. Wait until you land to buy local, reef-safe mineral sunscreens that are Oxybenzone and Octinoxate-free. Itâs a great way to support the local economy while protecting the ocean.
- Leave Room for the "Aloha" Factor: One of the biggest mistakes travelers make is packing their carry-on to the absolute brim. Leave about 10% of your bag empty. Whether itâs a beautiful piece of local jewelry or a hand-printed sarong you found at a boutique in Haleiwa, youâre going to want a little "souvenir wiggle room" for the trip home.

âBewitchedâ Star Erin Murphy Reveals How Producers Tried to Trick Fans With Darrin Switch
Erin Murphy opened up about the famous Darrin Stephens casting switch on Bewitched. In May 2026, the former child star appeared on Billy CorganâsThe Magnificent Others podcast, where she revealed that it never felt âweirdâ for her when her TV dad, originally played by Dick York, was recast on the show, because she witnessed the actorâs health struggles behind the scenes.
âIt wasn't weird only because I had been there,â Murphy, 61, shared. âI worked three years with Dick York before Dick Sargent came in, and I saw that he was in pain. And even as a child, there he had this board. It was like a leaning board on set. So he'd have to lean in between scenes.â
âBut for viewers of the show, the last season, especially, with Dick York there would be episodes written with Dick York. We do the table read with Dick York. Then something would happen where he couldn't be there. He was in pain,â she explained. "So there would be episodes that had Dick York and then we would not film it with Dick York. So there were, I think, seven or eight episodes in that season where he wasn't there.â
Murphy noted that before replacement Darrin, Dick Sargent, was brought in, the network aired a succession of episodes without the Darrin character in them at all.
âThey aired those seven or eight no Darrin episodes in a row, thinking no one would notice,â she laughed. âIt's like, âNo one will notice, we'll bring back Darrin, theyâll think it's the same guy.â Obviously, everyone noticed.â

York's exit came suddenlyMurphy played Tabitha Stephens on Bewitched from 1966 to 1972, but York and series star Elizabeth Montgomery made their debut on the ABCsitcom in 1964.
In a profile for the Los Angeles Times three years before his death, York detailed a severe spine injury he suffered while shooting the 1958 film, They Came to Cordura. While he continued to work as an actor, York relied on heavy doses of painkillers and cortisone for years, although he told the outlet he never took the drugs while he was on set.
York missed a lot of time from work due to his ailment, and in 1969, he collapsed on the Bewitched set and was hospitalized, never returning to the series again.
In footage included in the documentary The Bewitched 60th Anniversary Special, York said he felt like he âfailedâ everybody. âI didnât finish that show, so I felt guilty, and I felt embarrassed, and I felt that I let everybody down,â the actor said in the interview.
Yorkâs final Bewitched episode, âSamantha and Darrin in Mexico City,â was filmed in the fall of 1968, a few months before his collapse. It aired in April 1969, Â after the succession of Darrin-free episodes at the end of Season 5. When Season 6 premiered in September 1969, Sargent made his debut as Darrin in the episode "Samantha and the Beanstalk."
Erin Murphy helped Dick York forget his painOn Corganâs podcast, Murphy shared that York once told her that one of the things that helped him get through the physical pain he was dealing with was spending time with her on the set.
âHe told me as an adult that one of the things that would get him through is he would sit and tell me stories,â she recalled. âLike I was a kid on set and he was a dadâŠ. so he was very paternal and he said I would take his mind off the pain.â
Murphy has always maintained that she was close to both of her Darrin dads, but that York was the more paternal of the two actors. In an interview with People, she said, "Dick York was a dad, and he had a lot of kids, and he was just more paternal. So he was more like a dad.â

The Wild Story Behind One of Johnny Cashâs Most Famous Songs
On May 11, 1965, Johnny Cash found himself spending the night behind bars in Starkville. Ironically, the bizarre incident would go on to inspire one of the most memorable songs of the legendary country music star's career.
Cash had arrived in Starkville for a concert at Mississippi State University. But after the show, he reportedly wandered through town in the early morning hours picking flowers.
According to local accounts, he was arrested for public intoxication and trespassing after being discovered in a private yard gathering blossoms to impress a woman he had met that evening. The country music legend was taken to the city jail, where he spent the night in a small cell before paying a fine and being released the next morning.
Rather than hide the embarrassing moment, Cash transformed it into music. The experience inspired "Starkville City Jail," a humorous spoken-word style track that appeared on his 1969 live album At San Quentin.
In the song, Cash jokingly recounts his arrest and famously sings, "Iâd like to say itâs my belief / To be in Starkville, Mississippi, is the only place Iâd rather be than here in jail."
Cash later recalled the arrest during his performance at San Quentin Prison in California on February 24th, 1969, explaining how he was "going to get some cigarettes or something" when he was arrested for "picking flowers."
"'Bout two in the morning, after a show I think it was," Cash continued.
"Anyway, I reached down and picked a dandelion here, and a daisy there as I went along, and this car pulls up. He said, 'Get it the hell in here, boy; what are you doing?' I said, 'Iâm just picking flowers.' Well, $36 for picking flowers and a night in jail. You canât hardly win, can ya? No telling what theyâd do if you pull an apple or something."
The incident became one of the many colorful stories that added to Cashâs outlaw image during the height of his career.
While his struggles with alcohol and run-ins with the law were well known at the time, the Starkville arrest stood out because of its unusual and almost harmless cause. Decades later, it remains one of the most entertaining chapters in the legend of the Man in Black.

Kate Middletonâs Secret Palace Name Exposed by Former Royal Butler
A former royal butler is lifting the curtain on life inside the palace, revealing the private name used for Kate Middleton behind closed doors.
In an interview shared by Express and given to Smooth Spins Casino, Grant Harrold, who served as a royal butler for seven years, revealed how the Princess of Wales preferred to be addressed when out of the public eye. He claimed she wanted any interactions with her to be more causal than formal.
âShe was always known as Kate. Prince William always called her Kate. This Catherine thing only began after the wedding," Harrold explained.
âI think after their Coronation, she will be Queen Catherine. But until then, it was always Kate behind the scenes," he continued.

Harrold said that he used a less formal name for the royal family member. âI used to call her Kate. I was one of the few who were allowed to use first names rather than titles."
"When I first met her, she introduced herself to me as Kate - and asked me to call her that.â

Harrold concluded, âWhen speaking directly to members of the royal family, we used their official titles unless told otherwise. However, it was only William, Prince Harry, and Kate who wanted the less formal name option.â
In her official engagement interview alongside William, she was addressed as Kate by interviewer Tom Bradby of ITV News. She was called Catherine, the Princess of Wales, in a March 2024 interview where she revealed she had cancer.
In 2024, royal author Robert Jobson wrote in his book Catherine, the Princess of Wales, that the royal family member understood the lingering confusion over how she should be addressed. Although her legal name is Catherine, she has been called Kate by the press since joining the royal family in 2011.
In his book, per PEOPLE Magazine, Jobson wrote that in a 2008 article printed by Sunday Express columnist Adam Helliker, the senior royal took it upon herself to address the lingering issue in a lighthearted manner.

Helliker wrote, âI hear that in the past few weeks, the former accessories buyer has quietly informed friends that she would like to drop the informal âKateâ and in the future wishes to be known by her full name: Catherine.â
The royal family refers to Kate Middleton as Catherine on all royal correspondence. However, she continues to go by the shortened moniker outside of palace formalities.

Adventures by Disneyâs 2027 Lineup Includes a Dreamy Amalfi Coast Escape
Adventures by Disney has officially pulled back the curtain on its 2026 and 2027 lineup, and the new itineraries are already causing a stir for anyone looking to bridge the gap between high-end boutique travel and family-friendly storytelling.
While the brand has always been a go-to for those who want to see the world without the stress of logistics, the newly revealed "reimagined" journey through Italyâs Sicily and the Amalfi Coast is the clear standout that has us ready to pull the trigger on a deposit.
The eight-day southern Italy escape is an evolution of a longtime guest favorite, now updated to offer a more seamless flow between Sicilyâs volcanic landscapes and the sun-drenched, iconic cliffs of the Amalfi Coast.

View this post on InstagramAccording to Disney Parks Blog'sAli Beemer, these trips are designed to be more than just sightseeing tours. "Thereâs something magical about traveling to destinations that seem to have it all⊠cities that buzz with energy, cultures shaped by centuries of tradition, and coastlines so beautiful they feel straight out of a dream," Beemer shares.
On this particular Italian route, that dream manifests as a guided experience on Mount EtnaâEuropeâs highest and most active volcanoâwhere guests explore lava fields before heading to the ancient Teatro Greco in Taormina for sweeping views of the Ionian Sea. The cultural immersion continues with a private Sicilian puppet show and an interactive workshop with a master puppeteer.

As the journey moves toward the Amalfi Coast, the focus shifts to the artisanal roots of the region. "Youâll meet and learn from local artisans in a pasta-making class in Gragnano (Italyâs pasta capital) and a ceramics workshop in Vietri sul Mareâexperiences that will have you saying, 'la dolce vita!'" says Beemer. The itinerary also features a visit to Herculaneum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site described as "one of Italyâs most remarkably preserved Roman towns that was originally lost to time in the eruption of Mount Vesuviusâallowing you to walk through ancient streets frozen in time."
For those looking beyond Europe, the 2027 expansion also introduces brand-new land adventures in Thailand and a combined trek through Croatia and Slovenia.
The Thailand itinerary spans 10 days from the klong boats of Bangkok to an Asian elephant sanctuary in Chiang Mai, while the Croatia and Slovenia trip offers a mix of alpine scenery at Lake Bled and kayaking along Dubrovnikâs ancient city walls.
"What I love most about these adventures is that no two days feel the same," Beemer notes. "One day you might be exploring a vibrant city, and the next youâre connecting with local traditions or soaking in coastal views that youâll be talking about long after you return home."
With dedicated Adventure Guides handling every detail, the focus remains entirely on the experience, making these new departures a definitive bucket-list choice for the next two years of travel.
Beloved âGleeâ Star, Who Died at Height of Career, Would Have Turned 44 Today
Nearly 13 years after his death, Cory Monteith would have turned 44 today.
Monteith, who played Finn Hudson in Glee, died at the age of 31 from combined heroin and alcohol toxicity in his hotel room at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel in Vancouver. He previously struggled with drug abuse, but overcame it after he landed Gleeâs leading role. However, returning to his hotel alone on July 13, 2013, the actor took a lethal amount of drugs and alcohol.
Last year, his girlfriendLea Michele and Glee co-star opened up about loss and grief.
âIt was so sad [and] it was so depressing,â Michele said on the Therapuss podcast hosted by Jake Shane. âI was 26 and no one handed me a guidebook. It was a fast education on more stuff than I could ever even process.â
Glee incorporated Monteithâs characterâs death into the series to pay tribute to him, but Michele said that it was challenging going back to work. She returned to film season 5 of Glee only one month after Monteithâs death.
âIf we didnât show up to work, then people wouldnât have work to go to,â Michele said. âThat was a lot of pressure for me. So, I had to put my stuff aside so that everybody could continue to work.â
After Monteithâs untimely death, Gleeâs creator Ryan Murphy said that a sense of joy had disappeared from set. Michele said that sheâs never seen the tribute episode, âThe Quarterback,â because if she doesnât watch it, âit just kind of feels like Finn is still there.â
Micheleâs Glee character, Rachel Berry, dated Monteithâs character in the show. In real life, the couple dated for over a year. According to People, Monteith and Michele were âvery happy and very in loveâ when he died.

1977 Classic Rock Hit Was Edited for RadioâThen Got 'Banned' Anyway
In 1977, the Steve Miller Band was riding high on the success of the album Book of Dreams. The 10th studio album from the San Francisco-based rock band was fueled by its lead single, "Jet Airliner.â But while the song became a hit for the group, peaking at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 on July 9, 1977, it didnât come without controversy.
Written by Paul Pena, the song was recorded two years earlier for Millerâs Fly Like an Eagle album but wasnât included on the record. When it appeared on Book of Dreams, some radio stations took issue with its lyrics, which included, âdon't want to get caught up in any of that/funky s--- goin' down in the city.â
According to VH1, âJet Airlinerâ was one of several popular songs that toyed with the FCC rules, which prohibited the use of âseven dirty wordsâ on air. Some stations, especially AM radio, played an edited version of the song that subbed the phrase âfunky kicksâ for âfunky s---.â The sub also appeared on the single version of the song released in April 1977.
Steve Miller reworked the song in other waysMiller once reflected on "Jet Airlinerâ in an interview for the book The Guitar Greats. He noted that he met Pena through a mutual friend and was taken with his song, which had never been released.
âI particularly liked 'Jet Airliner,' so I worked on it and reshaped it into what it became,â Miller said, per Songfacts. The outlet noted that Miller changed several key lyrics, including Penaâs  line "I couldn't seem to quite get it down" to "the big wheel keeps on spinnin' around."
In a radio interview, Miller told Ultimate Classic Rock Nights that Penaâs original song was spawned by his bitterness with the music industry. âIt was very long, verse after verse after verse of anger, a lot of it,â the singer recalled. âSo I took the song and said, âCan I reshape it? Can I play with it?â They said, âYou can do anything you want to with it.â I remember laying out all the lyrics, typing them up on big sheets of paper⊠I had them all out on my kitchen table, moving the verses around⊠then I got it all together and went, âYeah, thisâll work â itâs great!ââ

âJet Airlinerâ was temporarily âbannedâ by some radio stationsMore than 20 years after its release, âJet Airlinerâ temporarily landed on a list of songs deemed insensitive for American radio. According to Kerrang, the song was one of 164 records that many radio stations banned following the September 11 terrorist attacks against America.
At the time, the media corporation Clear Channel Communications sent a memo to more than 1100 radio stations, which listed songs considered âlyrically questionableâ to play following the airplane-led 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
Loudwire clarified that radio stations were strongly urged not to play âJet Airlinerâ due to its lyrics about flying in a plane. Other questionable songs included Metallicaâs âSeek and Destroy,â AC/DCâs âShot Down in Flames,â Kansasâ âDust in the Windâ, Led Zeppelinâs âStairway to Heaven,â and the entire Rage Against the Machine catalog.
42 Years After Their 'I Need a Hero' Escape, See Why This 1984 TV Moment Is Still Ranked No. 1
Star-crossed young lovers, a manipulative politician-villain, a hit theme song, and a motorcycle all set the stage for one of Days of Our Lives' most iconic moments in 1984.
While stories such as Marlena's (Deidre Hall) possession by the devil, and Vivian Alamain (Louise Sorel) burying Carly Manning (Crystal Chappell) alive, made Variety's 10 Best Moments from Days of Our Lives, it was Hope Williams (Kristian Alfonso) 1984 wedding to the evil Larry Welch (Andrew Masset) that took the top spot as the soap's most iconic moment.
The storyline actually began a year before the wedding. Back in 1983, merchant marine Bo Brady (Peter Reckell) returned to Salem and instantly connected with Hope (Alfonso). Around the same time, Larry Welch (Masset) arrived in Salem and quickly became the district attorney. Soon after he became obsessed with Hope and decided she would be his no matter what it took. Eventually Larry went so far as to hire a sex worker to come between Bo and Hope, which ultimately gave himself an opening to pursue her.
Over the following months, Bo and Hope tried to reunite, but Larry threatened Hope and told her he would harm Bo if she refused to marry him. Hope reluctantly agreed, setting the stage for the iconic wedding day moment.
On June 3, 1984, Larry and Hope were set to be married, but Bo came to the chapel and pleaded with Hope to stop the wedding and leave with him. Hope denied him. âIâm not your woman anymore!â She tearfully cried, adding, âIâm not going to let you hurt me again.â
But Bo was stubborn and not one to accept a ânoâ from the woman that he loved. It was with the help of Hopeâs grandmother, Alice Horton (Francis Reed), that Bo was able to convince Hope to leave with him. But the question then became how?
It was then that the two recruited P.I. Howie Hoffstedder (Stanley Brock) to assist with a surprising twist. Â As the wedding took place, âHopeâ made her way down the aisle, surrounded by family and friends.
As Larry lifted the veil to see his bride-to-be, a stunned groom and crowd realized it was not Hope but Howie in a wig.
Meanwhile, outside of the chapel, viewers watched as Bo and Hope raced on his motorcycle away from Salem as Bonnie Tylerâs hit single, âI Need a Hero,â played in the background.
Despite confessing their love, the journey to reconciliation was not immediate after the wedding. Larry found Hope and forced her to enter into a loveless marriage, while Bo became involved with his ex-lover, Megan Hathaway (Miranda Wilson).
Eventually, however, with many twists along the way, Bo and Hope reunited, and after overcoming even more dramatic turns, they remain together, stronger than ever to this day.

What 4 Chefs Never Leave Aldi WithoutIf you need some food inspiration before your next grocery store trip, look no further. Here's what four chefs love to stock up on at Aldi.
1. Aldi Emporium Selection Aged Reserve New York White Cheddar CheeseYou can never go wrong with a good go-to cheese, whether youâre using it for sandwiches, quesadillas or simply just to enjoy by itself. According to Rachel Kirk, chef and recipe developer of Laughing Spatula, Aldiâs Emporium Selection Aged Reserve New York White Cheddar Cheese ($2.75) perfectly fits the bill. âIt's mildly flavored, not too sharp, but it still has a slight bite,â she says. âIt is my go-to for charcuterie platters because it is such a crowd-pleaser, but I've even used this as a shredded topping on soups and casseroles.âÂ
2. Simply Nature Organic Chicken BrothItâs impossible to overstate the importance of chicken broth in the kitchen, and according to Chef Rena Awada, head chef and food blogger at Healthy Fitness Meals, Aldiâs Simply Nature Organic Chicken Broth ($2.15) canât be beat. âIt's the kind of pantry staple that quietly makes everything better,â she says. âI use it as a base for soups and stews obviously, but also for braising vegetables, cooking grains, deglazing pans, anywhere you'd add water but want more depth.â She also mentions that the price point for the quality makes it something âyou want six of in the pantry at all times.â
3. Aldi Fresh Atlantic Salmon PortionsNothing beats throwing dinner together with minimal effort, and for JD Alewine, a former sushi chef turned food blogger at Them Bites, Aldiâs Fresh Atlantic Salmon Portions make that possible. âWhen we're trying to be healthy, we love the Fresh Atlantic Salmon Portions,â he says. âThese are great to season and throw in the oven with a sheet pan full of veggies.â Typically, youâll find them in vacuum-sealed packages sold by weight, priced at about $9 per pound.
4. Aldi USDA Choice Birria-Style BeefBirria is everywhere these days, but actually making it from scratch can take up more time than you might have on a weekday. Luckily, Chef Barry Miles says Aldiâs quick-and-easy USDA Choice Birria-Style Beef is the perfect option when the only thing you have time for is turning on the slow cooker. âAldi's Birria-Style Beef makes this global flavor accessible to home chefs for the kind of meal that feels restaurant-quality but fits into real life,â he says.Â
What To Look for When Shopping at AldiAccording to our panel of experts, the main thing to look for when shopping at Aldi is almost always something that you can use to add flavor to a dish without much extra effort on your part. This can include things like pasta sauces and seasoning blends or even prepared proteins.
3 Other Chef-Favorite Aldi FindsHere are three more Aldi finds that chefs love to use.
- Raoâs Homemade Marinara Sauce: Although you can find Rao's at pretty much any grocery store, our chefs agree that Aldi has this fan-favorite pantry find for the best price. If you canât find Raoâs, our experts suggest choosing the Aldi Specially Selected Marinara Pasta Sauce as an alternative for half the price.
- Dried Pasta: As far as pantry staples go, dried pasta is a must in any kitchen, and Aldiâs extensive selection is worth stocking up on in all shapes and sizes. Not only will you find standard shapes like spaghetti and penne, but every now and then Aldi will add finds like Specially Selected Bronze-Cut Paccheri Rigati or Fusilloni. Our chefs say if you can find either one of those pasta shapes on shelves, you should definitely toss them into your cart.Â
- Mama Cozzi's Pizza Kitchen Pepperoni Deli Pizza: Realistically, any of Aldiâs frozen pizzas are a great choice, but according to our experts, Mama Cozziâs Pizza Kitchen Pepperoni Deli Pizza is one youâll want to reach for again and again. Itâs great on its own, but you can also jazz it up by adding additional toppings like onions, bacon or even broccoli.
Trying to navigate all the foodie finds at Aldi can take a little more time than you might otherwise have for grocery shopping. Sure, you could just fill your cart with everything that catches your eye (which is totally understandable), but why not save yourself some time and reach for chef-approved staples thatâll do most of the heavy lifting?
Whether youâre looking for a ready-to-cook protein, upgraded Italian favorites or something to add to your personal charcuterie board, happy shopping!

1973 Iconic Soft Rock Song Ranked One of The Best of All Time Was Called Near-Perfect, but Singer Disagreed
In 1973, one of the most iconic soft rock ballads ever recorded was released, and 53 years later, the Eagles' "Desperado" is hailed as a near-perfect classic, even though its singer admitted he "could have done better."
"Desperado" was a song on the band's second LP. The ambitious concept project featured an Old West theme, and its tracks were primarily written by Glenn Frey and Don Henley.
The song never cracked the Billboard Top 100, but it remains one of the band's most beloved tracks. Ranker named it one of the band's best songs of all time in 2025, where it landed at No. 8 between "Tequila Sunrise" and "Life in the Fast Lane." Additionally, a decade earlier, Rolling Stone placed the song at No. 3 in a readers' poll ranking the band's best songs.
In a 2015 conversation with Howard Stern, Eagles drummer Don Henley revealed that although "Desperado" has become one of the bandâs most iconic songs, he felt he could have delivered a stronger vocal performance.
Parade DailyđŹ SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox đŹ
Henley revealed, "I could have done better [vocally] because I didn't get a chance to sing it more than three or four times. We had an English superstar producer, Glyn Johns, who was trying to make an album in an economical fashion."
"They sent us to England, and we were in this huge studio. The London Philharmonic was sitting behind me. I was scared [expletive]."
RELATED: 1970 Innuendo-Laced Soft Rock No. 1 Ranks Among the â70s Greatest Love Songs
He continued, "I was out there trying to sing, and a lot of these guys were older guys. And they brought chessboards with them. They would set up the chessboards between their chairs, and between takes, they would play chess. They weren't really into it."
The takes were done live with the band and the orchestra in the studio simultaneously. Henley said that the recording session reflected the collaboration, showing "Desperado's humanity."
RELATED: 1972 Soft Rock Gem Turned a Story About a Simple Day Into Chart Gold
"It gives it a certain immediacy. It gives it a certain humanity. It's flawed, like humans are," Henley concluded.
"I could have sung it a lot better. I could hear them making remarks once in a while. I could hear one say to another musician, 'I don't feel like a desperado.'"
In an interview with Cameron Crowe, Henley said "Desperado" marked the beginning of what would become a legendry songwriting partnership with Frey.
"Glenn came over to write one day, and I showed him this unfinished tune that I had been holding for so many years. I said, 'When I play it and sing it, I think of Ray Charles â Ray Charles and Stephen Foster. Itâs really a Southern gothic thing, but we can easily make it more Western.'"
He concluded, "Glenn leapt right on it â filled in the blanks and brought structure. And that was the beginning of our songwriting partnership; thatâs when we became a team."
Glenn Frey died in 2016. Don Henley remains a core member and frontman of the Eagles, and the band is currently in its final era, with a 2026 residency at the Las Vegas Sphere.

Late Actress, a Beloved '90s Icon, Would Have Been 63 Today
Today marks the birthday of late actress Natasha Richardson.
The beloved '90s star would have been celebrating her 63rd birthday on Monday, had her life not been tragically cut short. She was born on May 11, 1963, making her 45 years old at the time of her death in 2009.
Richardson, who is most well-known for her role in the 1998 cult classic film The Parent Trap, died unexpectedly in March 2009 after sustaining a fatal brain injury while on a ski trip in Canada.
She was on family vacation in Quebec, Canada, with her two sons, MichaĂ©l and Daniel, while her husband, Liam Neeson, was filming a movie in Toronto. On March 16, 2009, Richardson was taking a private lesson with an instructor at the Mont Tremblant ski resort when she fell and hit her head on the beginner's trail. She was briefly examined by the ski patrol members, but declined to seek further medical attention, the resort previously said in a statement to CNN.Â
Despite initially seeming fine, Richardson, who wasnât wearing a helmet at the time of the fall, had actually suffered a serious brain injury, specifically an epidural hematoma.Â
In the 48 hours after the incident, Richardsonâs condition worsened, and she died two days later on March 18, 2009.
At the time of her tragic death, Richardsonâs sons were 13 and 12 years old. Neeson, whom she had been married to since 1994, flew from Toronto to be with his wife at the hospital in Montreal, before she was brought to Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, where she later died.Â
"[Her death] was never real. It still kind of isnât,â Neeson previously told Anderson Cooperon 60 Minutes back in 2014. âThere [are] periods now in our New York residence when I hear the door opening, especially the first couple of yearsâŠanytime I hear that door opening, I still think Iâm going to hear her."

â90s Heavy Metal Rocker Shares Sad Update in New Post
Chad Gray shared heartbreaking news with fans after revealing the death of his dog, Milly, in an emotional Instagram post.Â
The longtime Mudvayne frontman posted photos of Milly along with a lengthy message about their bond and how deeply her loss has affected him.
Gray wrote, âMilly my baby girl. I love you so much and I already miss you terribly.â
The singer explained that Milly became part of his life when he met his wife seven years ago. In the tribute, he thanked the dog for bringing joy, love and comfort into their home.

âI just wanted to write this to tell you thank you for welcoming me into your life when I met your mommy 7 years ago,â Gray shared. âYou were so precious.â
He also reflected on caring for Milly through the years, saying she made every day better for him and his wife.
View this post on InstagramâThank you for letting me love you, nurture you, nourish you, take care of you and hug, kiss and pet your super soft fur for all these years,â he wrote. âYou made every single day better for me and your mommy.â
The emotional post arrived during a busy period for Grayâs career. Just days earlier, the singer spoke publicly about his new 30 Years Of Madness solo shows, which celebrate music from both Hellyeah and Mudvayne.
In a recent interview, Gray explained that he did not want to stay inactive while Mudvayne takes a break from touring in 2026.
âIâm 54 [explicit] years old. Iâm not taking a year off,â Gray said. âThatâs where I shine. I love to service my fans.â
The concerts mark the first solo performances of his career. The debut show took place in Las Vegas and featured musicians connected to both Mudvayne and Hellyeah.
Gray also said he enjoys performing songs from both bands together because fans do not always associate the projects with each other.
âYou canât always guarantee that Mudvayne fans are gonna be Hellyeah fans and that Hellyeah fans are Mudvayne fans,â he explained.
The singer described Hellyeah as a âpassion projectâ and remembered how the group worked hard for more than a decade alongside late drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott.
Gray has faced several challenges in recent months. Earlier this year, reports confirmed he underwent surgery after tearing his MCL during Mudvayneâs final 2025 tour. Despite the injury, he completed the run using braces and support equipment before later focusing on recovery ahead of his solo appearances.
Mudvayne has also experienced changes behind the scenes. Guitarist Greg Tribbett missed part of the bandâs recent anniversary tour after his wife reportedly died following a battle with cancer.
Even with the setbacks, Gray has continued to stay active creatively. Mudvayne recently released the songs âHurt People Hurt Peopleâ and âSticks And Stones,â marking the bandâs first new music in more than 15 years.
The group originally formed in 1996 and became known for its heavy sound, masks, body paint and experimental style. Over the years, Mudvayne sold millions of records worldwide and built a strong following in the metal community.
Now, fans are seeing a more personal side of Gray as he openly mourns the loss of Milly.
