The 3 Dreamiest Itineraries I’d Book for MSC’s 40% Off Labor Day Flash Sale
If you’re looking to squeeze in a spontaneous autumn escape or lock down plans for spring break and summer 2027 without blowing your travel budget, holiday flash sales are prime booking territory.
Running from September 1 through September 7, MSC Cruises has officially launched its Labor Day Sale, offering up to 40% off cruises across the fleet. On top of the core fare discounts, travelers booking sailings out of U.S. homeports can unlock up to $400 in extra savings, alongside Kids Sail Free offers on select itineraries.
Between ultra-low shoulder-season fares and deeply discounted peak-holiday weeks, here are the three standout itineraries I have my eye on—and why they are well worth booking right now.

1. The Long Weekend Escape to Ocean Cay on MSC Seaside (Starting at $268/person) Ocean Cay Marine ReserveMSC Cruises
If you just need a quick reset, this three- to four-night Bahamas sailing out of Miami is an unbeatable steal. At just $268 per person during October, getting on board is honestly cheaper than paying for a hotel, dining, and drinks on land for a single weekend.
Before embarking, you can soak in Miami’s vibrant Latin culture, stroll past the colorful Art Deco facades of Ocean Drive in South Beach, or check out the world-class street murals at Wynwood Walls. Once on board the 4,132-passenger MSC Seaside, the ship’s Miami-inspired design shines with its wraparound waterfront boardwalk, Miami Beach pool, and lush Jungle Lounge. You also get signature MSC staples at your fingertips, from authentic hand-tossed Neapolitan pizza to rich Venchi chocolate and artisanal gelato.
The real highlight, however, is a stop at Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, easily one of my all-time favorite cruise line private islands. Built around marine conservation and coral restoration, it avoids the noisy commercial feel of other private destinations and feels like a natural, untouched Bahamian paradise.
You will find peaceful lagoons, sweeping ocean-side beaches, and food trucks serving up authentic bites. Plus, if you sail in the MSC Yacht Club, you get exclusive access to private stretches like Ocean House Beach and can dine at the private Ocean House Restaurant right at the tip of the island for total tranquility—and maybe a friendly iguana sighting or two.

2. The Ultimate Caribbean Family Week on MSC World America (Starting at $474/person)MSC Cruises
To take your family vacation up a notch, look no further than a seven-night Eastern Caribbean and Bahamas voyage aboard the brand’s flagship, MSC World America, sailing roundtrip from Miami with calls in Puerto Plata, San Juan, and Ocean Cay.
This itinerary is an astonishing deal for fall travel, with starting fares as low as $474 per person. It is also an ideal booking window for spring break 2027—or even the ultra-popular Christmas and New Year’s holiday week for around $1,500 per person, which is virtually unheard of for peak holiday cruising.
Having sailed this exact weeklong itinerary, it is a masterclass in how to keep every generation happy on a single ship. Grandparents will love the high-caliber theater productions, sophisticated specialty dining, and the serene sanctuary of the MSC Yacht Club. Meanwhile, kids and teens have the run of the ship at the high-energy Harbour waterpark and expansive Lego-designed youth clubs. Paired with rich cultural excursions in historic Old San Juan and Dominican beach days, it is the complete family package.

3. The 7-Night Alaska Glaciers Voyage on MSC Poesia (Starting at $643/person) The MSC Poesia makes its historic debut in Seattle, marking the first time the world’s third-largest cruise line has homeported in the Pacific Northwest.MSC Cruises
For travelers ready for a bucket-list adventure, MSC’s recent debut in Alaska has opened up incredible value for exploring the Last Frontier. Sailing roundtrip from Seattle, the seven-night route aboard MSC Poesia visits Ketchikan, Icy Strait Point, Juneau, Victoria (British Columbia), and cruises the breathtaking Tracy Arm Fjord.
Inside cabins start at just $643 per person, but the real insider move is upgrading to an Aurea Balcony stateroom package for around $1,800 per person (including drinks, wifi, and Aurea upgrade).
Booking the Aurea experience gives you unlimited access to the thermal suite inside the MSC Aurea Spa, which is easily one of the best thermal suites at sea. After spending a brisk, chilly morning out on deck watching glaciers calve in Tracy Arm, there is nothing quite like spending the entire afternoon unwinding in cedar saunas, steam rooms, and heated loungers. With a passenger capacity of around 2,550 guests, MSC Poesia offers a much more intimate, relaxed atmosphere that feels perfectly suited for scenic glacier viewing.

2008 Christian Bale Movie, With Multiple Improvised Moments, Is Named One of the Best Movies of All Time
There are some movies that will stand the test of time, and The Dark Knight is one of them. It holds a 94% Rotten Tomatoes score and remains one of the best movies of all time.
Both Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb put it on their lists, although IMDb ranks it much higher in the No. 3 spot. On the Rotten Tomatoes list, it’s down in 155th place, surprisingly coming in behind Toy Story 4, which is arguably the worst of the Toy Story movies.
As for The Dark Knight, it’s not surprising that it’s high up the list on IMDb, sitting ahead of the first in the trilogy of Christian Bale Batman movies. Batman Begins was a strong start in the Christopher Nolan trilogy, creating great characters and a realistic origin story, but The Dark Knight elevated everything it could. It helped to create a cinematic crime epic, with two Academy Award wins against Batman Begins’ zero.
One of those wins went to Heath Ledger, who won Best Supporting Actor. Sadly, Ledger passed away in January 2008, months before The Dark Knight was released in theaters, leading to a posthumous win, with his parents and sister accepting the award on his behalf.
Heath Ledger during The Cinema Society and Cole Haan Present a Screening of THINKFilm’s “Candy” at Tribeca Grand Hotel in New York, New York, United States. (Photo by Jemal Countess/WireImage)This was the movie that showed off Ledger’s epic acting skills, after initially getting a start in the likes of 10 Things I Hate About You and A Knight’s Tale. While Nolan added plenty of detail to his scripts and knew the vision he wanted, he allowed Ledger to improvise many of his scenes, allowing for the unpredictable energy that the Joker needed.
Some of the most popular scenes were improvised, including the sarcastic slow clap as Jim Gordon’s promotion was announced. Nolan had also shared that Ledger would never rehearse the way he was saying a line in front of the crew, allowing him to improvise the cadence and sounds throughout the takes, adding to the surprise for the actors.
One of the most famously believed improvs was the moment Ledger’s Joker walked away from the hospital and tapped the detonator multiple times. This wasn’t improvised at all, with Nolan sharing on the Gotham Uncovered: Creation of a Scene featurette on the Blu-Ray/DVD release that it was completely rehearsed and planned. The delay in the detonation was for safety reasons, as a real building was being demolished in that particular scene, and there was only one take allowed.
The Dark Knight is the strongest in the trilogy starring Bale as Batman, and it belongs on the list of greatest movies ever.

1977 Rock Album Is Suddenly Back on the Charts 48 Years After Album of the Year Grammy
In 1977, Fleetwood Mac released an album born out of romantic wreckage, frayed relationships and a famously turbulent recording process. Nearly 50 years later, Rumours is proving once again that listeners aren’t anywhere close to being finished with it.
The band’s landmark album has suddenly returned to multiple Billboard rankings, re-entering the Top Rock Albums chart at an impressive No. 5 and the Top Streaming Albums chart at No. 34.
The latest resurgence comes 48 years after Rumours won Album of the Year at the 1978 Grammy Awards, adding another chapter to the remarkable afterlife of an album that has repeatedly found new generations of listeners.
Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Rumours’ Re-Enters the Top 5Released Feb. 4, 1977, Rumours arrived as Fleetwood Mac was coming off the success of its 1975 self-titled album, which had reached No. 1 in the U.S. But behind the scenes, virtually every relationship within the band seemed to be splintering.
Christine McVie and John McVie were divorcing after eight years of marriage. Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham were caught in an increasingly volatile relationship of their own, while Mick Fleetwood was dealing with the collapse of his marriage after learning his wife was having an affair with his best friend.
Somehow, all that upheaval became an 11-song album featuring “Dreams,” “Don’t Stop,” “Go Your Own Way,” “The Chain” and “You Make Loving Fun.”
Related: 1975 Rock Ballad Is Suddenly Climbing the Charts 51 Years Later
The album went to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and remained there for an extraordinary 31 nonconsecutive weeks. “Dreams” also became Fleetwood Mac’s only No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100.
The success was enormous, but even the band couldn’t have known just how long Rumours would stick around.
‘Rumours’ Has Spent More Than 3,500 Combined Weeks on the ChartsThe album’s latest Billboard appearances are only a sliver of its staggering chart history.
According to Billboard’s current chart data, Rumours has now accumulated 490 weeks on Top Rock Albums, 699 weeks on the Billboard 200, 511 weeks on Top Album Sales, 494 weeks on Top Rock & Alternative Albums and 467 weeks on Vinyl Albums.
Add in its runs on Top Streaming Albums, Canadian Albums, Indie Store Album Sales and several international rankings, and Rumours has logged more than 3,500 combined weeks across 11 charts.
That’s a fitting legacy for an album whose future wasn’t exactly guaranteed while Fleetwood Mac was making it.
In a sprawling 2013 Mojo retrospective on the album, Fleetwood recalled just how precarious things had been before Buckingham and Nicks joined the group.
“Fleetwood Mac were practically finished in 1974,” he said. “What on earth would have happened to me, to all of us, if I hadn’t stopped there that day?”
Fleetwood was referring to the chance encounter that ultimately led him to Buckingham and Nicks, completing the lineup that would first record 1975’s Fleetwood Mac and then Rumours.
The latter album ultimately became one of the biggest-selling records in history, with more than 40 million copies sold worldwide.
The Album Has Made Some Remarkable Comebacks Before @420doggface20822secs of Vibes 1yr ago today thx you all for what has come from this video the love, support, smiles, strength it brought out in others #thanks #tiktok
♬ Dreams (2004 Remaster) – Fleetwood MacThis is hardly the first time Rumours has unexpectedly come roaring back.
In 2011, the album returned to the Billboard 200 following the Fleetwood Mac-themed episode of Glee. Then came an even bigger revival in 2020, when Nathan Apodaca’s viral TikTok video, featuring him skateboarding while drinking cranberry juice to “Dreams,” sent the album all the way back into the Billboard 200 Top 10.
That viral moment was remarkable enough on its own for an album then more than four decades old. Six years later, Rumours is back yet again.
This time, there doesn’t appear to be one viral skateboard ride or TV episode responsible for the resurrection. It’s simply an album that has demonstrated a peculiar ability to keep finding its way back into heavy rotation.
And with a No. 5 re-entry on Top Rock Albums, nearly half a century after Fleetwood Mac turned a collection of breakups, arguments and deeply personal songs into Album of the Year, Rumours isn’t merely hanging around.
It’s back near the top.

Quote of the Day: John Keats on Why Some Life Lessons Only Make Sense With Age
When you think of Romantic poetry, specifically British Romanticism, you most likely think of poems that favor spontaneity, use lots of nature as imagery and have a “passion for individual imagination,” per the Poetry Foundation. You might also think of poets like Lord Byron, Percy Shelley and John Keats. According to Britannica, Keats—who only lived to be 25 years old before dying of tuberculosis—spent his life perfecting “poetry marked by vivid imagery” and “great sensuous appeal” as well as attempting “to express a philosophy through classical legend.”
As the Poetry Foundation reported, Keats only published 54 poems that appeared in “three slim volumes” and some magazines at the time. But he experimented with a lot of different things in his short life of writing, from sonnets to romances to epics. He also wasn’t particularly well-received at the time and didn’t hang with other Romantic poets. However, the Poetry Foundation says that Keats “ranks… as one of the greatest lyric poets in English.”
Keats was born on Oct. 31, 1795, in London, England, and died on Feb. 23, 1821, in Rome, Italy. He and his three siblings had a somewhat unstable youth, due to their father’s death and their mother’s subsequent marriages, which had them go to live with their grandmother and then with a guardian. Keats was an apprentice under a surgeon from 1811 to 1814, and afterwards became a junior house surgeon at a couple of hospitals in London. But from 1817 onward, he devoted himself solely to poetry.
The year 1819 was a big one for Keats, since it was when he wrote a good chunk of his most well-known works, such as “La Belle Dame sans Merci” and most of his odes, like “Ode to a Nightingale.” It’s also where our quote of the day comes from, in a letter where Keats describes how his lived experiences impacted his wisdom.
Quote of the Day by John KeatsCanvaPro/Parade
“Nothing ever becomes real till it is experienced—Even a Proverb is no proverb to you till your Life has illustrated it.”
This line comes from Keats’s “Letter to George and Georgiana Keats,” dated March 19, 1819, which you can find in the book Letters of John Keats to His Family and Friends, by John Keats, edited by Sidney Colvin. As the preface of the book says, many fans of Keats’s writings wanted access to the messages he sent to his loved ones because “he is one of those poets whose genius makes itself felt in prose-writing almost as decisively as in verse, and at their best these letters are among the most beautiful in our language.”
The letter this quote is from is written to his brother, George, and his wife, Georgiana, who had already moved to America by this time. As the Keats Letters Project reported, this specific message was part of a “long journal letter” to his brother and sister-in-law and is “one of the most valuable” they have in their collection. This was a period of time (between Feb. 14 and May 3, 1819) when he was in a very creative mindset. And this March 19 correspondence “marks a crucial turning point” in his “development.” That’s because, up until this point, Keats’s words to them were sad, anxious, disappointed and more. But this one was more humorous and had “profound speculation.”
In the letter, before this quote, he wonders whether selflessness is a natural thing or against their human nature; Keats was intrigued by the concept of “disinterestedness” and the evidence for and against it. He ruminates on the differences between the goals and distinctions of poetry and philosophy, saying that he’s finally able to “relish” different philosophical ideas “properly.” Keats then writes the quote.
Deeper Meaning of John Keats’s Quote—Understanding Life Lessons With AgeAs the Keats Letters Project stated, this quote comes after Keats’s years of medical training, which influenced how he understood how the body works and how it is affected; it’s all interconnected, from emotions to your bodily systems, functions and more. And so this sentiment reflects his real-life experience of learning more as you age and become wiser—not just through education but also through lived encounters. He’s saying that ideas aren’t set in stone and should be developed by being observant and seeing how things work.
Even looking at the quote on its own, outside of the context of his letters and personal history, Keats is saying that you simply understand more as you have more experience in life, gaining knowledge by living and making educated observations.
You can read about far-off places, crazy stories, new cuisine, different people or walks of life all you want, but until you go out and encounter things, it won’t actually be “real” to you, as he writes. You can read all the proverbs and parables you can consume, but until your life throws a problem at you that resonates with one of those written life lessons, they won’t really mean anything to you. It’s all just words on a page until you go through it or feel the brunt of the hard parts of life yourself.

Finding a spot for everyday items can get tricky in a small space, whether you need a nightstand, a little extra storage or somewhere to display your favorite decor. That’s where a narrow cabinet comes in — it can slip into a corner or other tucked-away spot without getting in the way. Walmart has a rattan option that’s worth checking out for cramped areas.
Right now, the Costway Slim Rattan Storage Cabinet is on sale for $50 at Walmart, down from $60. This cabinet features both open cubbies and a closed compartment, giving you space to display items and hide clutter if necessary. It comes in three colors — black, natural wood and white. While prices vary slightly based on color, none are over $70. Walmart shoppers say the cabinet is “sturdy” and a “solid purchase for the price.”

The storage can be customized to fit your needs, thanks to an adjustable shelf with twelve different positions. You can move the shelf around to accommodate different-sized items or remove it completely when you need space for something taller.
The cabinet stands on four tapered wood legs and comes with two anti-tipping kits for added stability. It holds up to 135 pounds in all, with room for everything from books and décor to everyday household essentials.
Shoppers said the cabinet came together quickly, with one noting it was “easy and quick to assemble.” One picked it up as a nightstand for their daughter’s bunk bed and called it “adorable,” while another Walmart reviewer said it made a “lovely addition” to their home.

'Queen of Latin Pop,' Who Rejected Becoming a CIA Spy, Turns 69
In 1975, an 18-year-old Gloria Fajardo auditioned with her cousin for a wedding band led by a young musician named Emilio Estefan. The group would become Miami Sound Machine, Fajardo would become Gloria Estefan, and the singer would eventually earn a title few could have imagined at the time: the “Queen of Latin Pop.”
But before she became an international superstar, Estefan had another possible career waiting in the wings, one that sounds more like the setup for a spy thriller than the biography of the woman behind “Conga.”
Estefan, who turns 69 on Sept. 1, once revealed that she was approached about working for the CIA.
And she turned them down.
Gloria Estefan Was Approached About Becoming a CIA SpyLong before “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You” and “Get on Your Feet,” Estefan attended the University of Miami, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in French. She also worked as an interpreter for the Customs Department at Miami International Airport.
Estefan spoke English, Spanish and French, and those language skills apparently caught the attention of the CIA.
In a 2020 interview with Argentine newspaper Clarín, Estefan recalled receiving a concrete offer to become a CIA spy, an opportunity she ultimately rejected on her mother’s advice.
Instead, music became her future.
It had already been an important refuge during an extraordinarily difficult childhood. Estefan’s family fled Cuba when she was 2, and her father later served in Vietnam. After returning home, he became seriously ill, leaving a young Estefan with significant responsibilities helping care for him and her younger sister.
“Music was my escape,” Estefan told Clarín, explaining that she would retreat to her room, listen to the radio, record songs and work out their chords. “It was a huge release for me.”
From Miami Sound Machine to the ‘Queen of Latin Pop’Estefan’s musical life changed in 1975 when she and her cousin auditioned for Emilio Estefan’s wedding band, the Miami Latin Boys. They made the cut, and the group was rechristened Miami Sound Machine.
“The Rolling Stone Encyclopedia of Rock & Roll” notes that the band became one of Miami’s most popular groups, initially developing a sound that mixed disco-pop with salsa. By 1979, Miami Sound Machine was releasing Spanish-language albums, but its English-language crossover didn’t happen immediately.
That changed during the ’80s.
The 1985 album Primitive Love produced a trio of Top 10 hits with “Conga,” “Bad Boy” and “Words Get in the Way.” Then came Let It Loose, featuring “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You,” “Can’t Stay Away From You” and the No. 1 smash “Anything for You.”
The success was particularly satisfying considering what Estefan says she and Emilio had been told along the way.
“They told us we were too Latin for American music and too American for Latin music,” she recalled in 2020. But Estefan and her husband weren’t interested in changing themselves to fit neatly into either category.
“We were very clear that if we were going to be successful, it had to be with who we are,” she said.
Gloria Estefan’s Career Has Spanned More Than 50 YearsThat instinct worked out rather spectacularly.
Estefan’s official biography credits her with more than 100 million records sold worldwide, nine Grammy Awards and an Oscar nomination, as well as the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Kennedy Center Honors and the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. She was also inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2023.
The Recording Academy calls Estefan the “Queen of Latin Pop,” tracing her journey from Miami Sound Machine through her enormously successful solo career.
And more than 50 years after that first audition, Estefan is still making music. Her 2025 album Raíces, her first full Spanish-language album in 18 years, went on to win the Grammy for Best Tropical Latin Album in 2026.
It’s a career that might never have happened had the multilingual college student at Miami International Airport chosen a different offer.
The CIA’s loss turned out to be pop music’s gain.

Yelp Names the Top Foodie Cities of 2026—See Which City Took the No. 1 Spot
Americans are apparently getting hungry earlier—and traveling farther for a good meal.
Yelp and Lyft have teamed up to identify the Top 20 Foodie Cities of 2026, analyzing restaurant searches, saves, ratings, photo uploads and rideshare data to determine where Americans are most eager to dine out.

Iconic destinations from Commander’s Palace to Michelin hotspot Cochon are among the top restaurant destinations for Lyft riders.
But there’s another unexpected trend found in the data: Americans are eating earlier. Breakfast and brunch are the No. 1 most-searched restaurant categories in every single Foodie City. According to the report, nearly 20 percent of Lyft rides to restaurants occurs before noon.
The list comes as Yelp kicks off its inaugural Foodie Week, running September 1 to September 7, with events scheduled across the country.

Zaxbys Brings Back a Candy-Inspired Milkshake Nationwide for a Limited Time
Once upon a time, a box of Nerds was reliably part of your Halloween candy assortment each year.
All these decades later, the beloved candy brand is still making waves in the sweets biz, especially after collaborating with the fast-casual restaurant chain Zaxbys last year for the cult-favorite NERDS Strawberry Milkshake.
And now, the treat has returned to locations nationwide by popular demand. Fans can head to their nearest “saucy chicken chain” location as of Monday, August 31 to grab one — but only for a limited time.
Zaxbys took to social media to promote its returning menu item in festive fashion. “Run don’t walk 🏃🎉,” reads the caption of its Instagram reel on Monday. See below.
View this post on InstagramFans have since commented on the post to voice their support. “Zaxbys I dedicate my life to you,” wrote one Instagram user, while another person simply commented, “🎉🎉🎉. I need that.”
For those not yet familiar, the Nerds shake blends Zaxbys hand-spun Strawberry Milkshake with the candy’s signature crunch for an “unexpected sweet-and-tart twist,” per the chain’s recent news release. It’s also topped with Nerds Gummy Clusters candy, whipped cream, Rainbow Nerds candy and a Maraschino cherry.
“The NERDS brand is such a fan-favorite, iconic candy, and we knew its signature sweet-and-tangy crunch would take our hand-spun Strawberry Milkshake to a whole new level,” Patrick Schwing, Zaxbys’ chief marketing and strategy officer, said in a recent statement. “The pairing creates a crave-worthy treat that brings nostalgic candy flavors together with the creamy indulgence of a hand-spun Zaxbys Strawberry Milkshake. After seeing how much guests loved it in our test markets, we’re excited to bring it to fans nationwide for a limited time.”
Founded in 1990, Zaxbys has built name for itself by serving Chicken Fingerz (with a “z”), Zalads, wings and signature sauces with Southern hospitality and a modern twist.
Duane ‘Keffe D’ Davis Found Guilty In Murder of Tupac Shakur, 30 Years After Rapper's Death
Duane ‘Keffe D’ Davis has been convicted of murder for the 1996 drive-by shooting that killed rapper Tupac Shakur.
After a three-hour deliberation on Monday, Aug. 31, the 12-person jury convicted Davis of first-degree murder. However, the gang enhancement portion of the murder charge was dismissed due to witness logistics. Throughout the nine-day trial, the jury heard from 24 prosecution witnesses and three defense witnesses.
Davis, who is 63-years-old, is facing life in prison without the possibility of parole. His sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 13.
According to CNN, Shakur’s family was emotional, with the rapper’s sister being seen crying as they held hands while the verdict was announced.
Davis was arrested in September 2023 and ultimately pleaded guilty in November 2023. Throughout the trial, prosecutors claimed that Davis was the “shot caller,” saying he and his nephew, Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, “went hunting” for the rapper after a fight between Shakur and Anderson.
“He is responsible of the murder of Tupac Shakur,” Chief Deputy District Attorney Binu Palal told jurors in closing arguments. “Tell him you hear him. Find him guilty.”
Shakur, who was at the height of his career at the time of his death, was killed after he was in Las Vegas and stopped at a red light. A white Cadillac pulled up beside his car, and shots were fired. Shakur died six days later from the wounds he sustained. Death Row Records co-founder Marion “Suge” Knight was also wounded but survived.
The case went unsolved for a long time, as nobody was charged for years, but Davis began making public statements about being in the Cadillac as well as having given the gun to others, according to the Associated Press. He also allegedly said it was in retaliation for them having beaten up his nephew. Out of the four men in the white Cadillac, Davis is the only one still alive.
1973 Hit ‘Jolene’ Was Always Meant for This Superstar, Late Legend Revealed
Dolly Parton’s 1973 hit “Jolene” has been covered by artists including Miley Cyrus, Olivia Newton-John, and Kelly Clarkson, but there’s one singer the country music legend always dreamed of hearing take on the iconic track.
Parton passed away at 80 on August 25 from an undisclosed battle with cancer. In her memory, Beyoncé‘s mom, Tina Knowles, shared that Parton wanted her daughter to perform the well-known track.
The Grammy Award-winning artist sang her own rendition of the song for her 2024 country music album, Cowboy Carter.
On Sunday, Aug. 30, Knowles shared a clip of Parton on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah in 2022. She captioned the Instagram post, “I love that Dolly manifested this ♥️🙏🏽🌹.” In the video, Noah asked Parton if she had an “update” about her request for Beyoncé to sing “Jolene.”
“No. I don’t know if she’s even got the message,” Parton said at the time. “But wouldn’t that be killer? I think she’s fantastic and beautiful and I love her music.”
“I would just love to hear ‘Jolene’ done in just a big way, kind of like how Whitney [Houston] did my ‘I Will Always Love You,’ just someone that can take my little songs and make ‘em like powerhouses,” Parton continued. “So that would be a marvelous day in my life if she ever does do ‘Jolene.’”
Beyoncé’s cover was released two years later. Parton was featured on the album through spoken introductions and joined the singer for the song “TYRANT.”
After Parton’s death, Beyoncé shared a heartfelt tribute on her website.
“You were the barometer. The north star. Bold and brilliant. Talented and tenacious. You taught so many lessons on how to be uniquely oneself,” Beyoncé wrote in a statement. “I am grateful for your art, your heart, your generosity, your humor, your entrepreneurship.”
“I’m honored that I had the privilege to work with you. I will treasure that forever. Thank you for your profound impact on the world. You are an angel who has made this world a happier place because of your joyful art,” she continued. “You are truly one of one. Rest peacefully.”
