James Cameron-Directed Film Named the 'Best Sci-Fi Movie Released Since 2000'
Science fiction films from the 21st century tend to be a favorite among movie enthusiasts. The publication Collider recently highlighted a few acclaimed and beloved 21st science fiction films, with a list of “the 6 best sci-fi movies released since 2000.”
The ranking, published on August 29, included science fiction films like 2014’s Ex Machina, Dune: Part Two from 2024, and 2010’s Inception. The James Cameron-directed and written film, Avatar, released in 2009, took home the title of the “best sci-fi movie released since 2000.” Collider pointed to the impact of the Oscar-nominated film’s visual effects in Pandora as a reason the movie deserved the ranking’s top spot.
Avatar holds a score of 81 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, its sequels, Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) and Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025), have the respective Rotten Tomatoes scores of 76 percent and 66 percent.
James Cameron Shared Behind-the-Scenes Information About the Making of ‘Avatar’In a 2010 interview with Discovery, Cameron explained that the idea for Avatar came out of his desire to make a CGI-heavy film to help propel the visual effects company, Digital Domain, which he “was the CEO of at the time.” He said that he and the company’s co-founder, Stan Winston, had started Digital Domain “to do great CG [computer-generated] characters and creatures” in films.
Cameron also said he began penning the script for Avatar in 1995. However, he benched the project for 10 years because he and Winston soon realized there needed to be other films made that would “improve the CG” so Avatar could be exactly what he envisioned.
“Avatar couldn’t be that project because if we tried it, we wouldn’t be able to complete within the cycle of a single movie all of the stuff that we needed to do. There needed to be movies in between,” explained the filmmaker.
He then said that he eventually showed the Avatar script to Jon Landau, who produced his film Titanic (1997), in 2005. According to Cameron, Landau encouraged him to start working on the project.
“We started a process which ultimately took about two years, a little over two years, of in parallel designing everything, every creature, every plant, every tree, the floating mountains, the whole nine yards,” said Cameron. “And in parallel designing, our process for doing the performance capture now, interestingly, I didn’t have to create the 3D camera ’cause we were ready on that. We were good to go. The fusion camera was ready.”
He clarified that filming for Avatar didn’t start until 2007.

Freida Parton Shares Dolly's Heartfelt Final Wish and Memories of Their Bond
The world knew Dolly Parton as a superstar, but Freida Parton knew a different side of her elder sister. In a deeply personal statement on Facebook on Saturday, August 29, Freida recalled the childhood fears they shared, the disagreements they overcame, and the years Dolly spent raising her.
She also asked fans to pray for their grieving family. “Thank you all for bearing with me as I mourn the death of my big sister,” Freida wrote.
The “Jolene” singer, 80, died on Tuesday, August 25, after what her family called a “brief battle” with unspecified cancer.

Freida, 69, revealed that Dolly cared for her during five formative years of her life.
“I know to the entire world, she was a superstar, but to me, she was my Dolly Momma,” she wrote. “She was the sister who would climb into bed with me when I was little because we were both afraid of the dark. She was the woman who stepped up and became my Momma, raising me from ages 13 to 18.”
Her memories also included lighter moments. Dolly once tried to persuade Freida to wear her wigs while performing at Dollywood.
“Sorry, sister, but I definitely didn’t listen to you on that one,” Freida added.
Freida acknowledged that their bond included the same tensions many sisters experience. “Like all sisters, we definitely had our share of arguments and disagreements throughout the years, but even through all the highs and lows, and all the laughter and tears, I never stopped loving her,” she wrote.
Months before Dolly’s death, Freida had publicly requested prayers for her sister. She is now asking that support be extended to everyone mourning the loss.
What Did Dolly Parton’s Sister Ask of Fans?“I asked you all months ago to pray for Dolly, but now I’m going to ask you to please pray for me and my entire family as we navigate this insurmountable loss,” Freida wrote.
She told fans that her sister could never be replaced and admitted that continuing without her will sometimes feel impossible.
Still, Freida plans to honor Dolly by carrying her generosity forward. “I know she would want me to keep going, keep smiling, and keep sharing the love she gave so freely with others,” she wrote. “That is what I’m going to try to do, even on the days when it feels impossible.”
Freida ended her message by revealing that she has begun work on an undisclosed project celebrating her sister. “I’m working on something very special for all of you in her honor,” she wrote. “It’s my way of keeping a little piece of my Dolly Momma with me, while sharing her with all of you who loved her, too.”
Dolly was one of 12 children born to Robert Lee Parton Sr. and Avie Lee Parton. She grew up in Tennessee alongside six brothers, Willadeene, David, Denver, Bobby, Randy and Larry, and five sisters, including Frieda, Stella, Cassie, Rachel and Floyd.
‘Days of Our Lives’ Star Teases Upcoming Storyline That 'Affects the Whole Town'

Martsolf was recently interviewed by The Soap Scene’s Erin Goldsby, during which the two discussed Martsolf’s desire for a super-couple pairing and his career, both on and off camera, including his work with The Day Players.

During the conversation, Martsolf teased a new crisis that would prompt Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols) and Brady (Martsolf) to embark on an investigation. “We actually have a big storyline coming up that actually affects the whole town.”
DAYS OF OUR LIVES — Season 60 — Pictured: Eric Martsolf as “Brady” — (Photo by: Chris Haston/PEACOCK)The actor explained that Brady is in full “Scooby-Doo mode” and is excited for his character to continue following in his late father’s footsteps by working as a P.I. with Steve.
Following the real-life death of Drake Hogestyn, Brady Black has been going through a transitional period and has decided to leave the corporate world behind. Brady has now joined Steve at Black Patch (named after John Black and Steve’s nickname Patch).
No specific storyline details have been revealed at this time regarding the upcoming mystery that Brady and Steve find themselves involved in. Still, viewers can stay tuned as the story is expected to air over the coming months.
Elsewhere, Martsolf recently reflected on working with the late Hogeystyn while appearing on the Soapy Podcast. The actor revealed that while Hogeystyn was still alive, he gave Executive Producer Ken Corday his blessing to film the character of John Black’s funeral. “he’s like, ‘Tell the story. Tell the story.’ That’s a guy who is dedicated to what he’s been doing for the last 40 or 50 years. So, that’s my memory of him.”
Brand new episodes of Days of Our Lives air weekdays exclusively on Peacock.
'Big Bang Theory' Star Reveals He Thought the Show Had Forgotten About Him: 'I Think I'm Done'
While many Big Bang Theory fans will agree that Brian Thomas Smith was quite memorable as his character, Zack Johnson, the actor revealed that he wasn’t sure if the show’s writers would remember him.
During an August 2026 interview on The Official Big Bang Theory Podcast, Smith noted that he first appeared as Zack, a simple but sweet love interest of Penny’s (Kaley Cuoco), during the show’s season 3 finale. After filming three episodes of season 4, he didn’t return until the show’s seventh season. Zack later appeared in seasons 9, 10, 11, and 12, per IMDb.
“There was a couple seasons where they forgot about me, and I was like, ‘I think I’m done. The run’s over,'” said Smith.
He clarified he was initially just cast for the season 3 finale. However, he was given the seal of approval by the show’s creator, Chuck Lorre, while working on said episode.
“So, I always thought like, ‘God, it’d be fun if they brought Zack back.’ He’s a good mix to the [group]. I mean, it sets up Kaley for jokes ’cause she gets to make fun of how dumb I am. And she’s usually on the other end of those jokes,” said Smith during the podcast episode.
Smith then said he expected Zack to have a larger role during the show’s 12th and final season, which ended in 2019. He noted that in Season 12, Episode 12, Zack approached Penny’s husband, Dr. Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki), to be a sperm donor so he and his wife, Marissa (Lindsey Kraft), could start a family. The actor said that after the episode was shot, he was congratulated by members of the crew and cast for his performance, leading him to believe there would be more Zack-focused episodes. However, after the cast came “back from the holiday break,” he received the script for Season 12, Episode 15, where it’s revealed that Leonard has decided against being Zack and Marissa’s donor.
“Then that storyline’s over and Zack says bye for the rest of the show,” said Smith.
Smith then shared that he was informed by one of the show’s writers that Lorre changed his mind about Zack being involved in the latter half of the show’s finale season.
“I talked to a writer, and they said, ‘Yeah, I think over break Chuck kind of had a different vision for the way it ended,'” said Smith.
The actor clarified that “as a fan of the show,” he was pleased with how The Big Bang Theory ended, even if his character wasn’t included.

2022 Amazon Prime TV Series Ranked 'Greatest Show' With Less Than 20 Episodes
The 2022 Amazon Prime Video science-fiction series Night Sky has earned a spot among the greatest TV shows with fewer than 20 episodes, despite lasting only one season.
The series, starring Oscar winners Sissy Spacek and J.K. Simmons, was ranked No. 9 on Collider’s list of “The 10 Greatest Shows With Fewer Than 20 Episodes.”
Night Sky premiered on Amazon Prime Video on May 20, 2022, with all eight episodes released at once. Amazon canceled the science-fiction drama in July 2022, roughly six weeks after its debut. Despite its short run, the series continues to stand out for its unusual story, its veteran lead actors, and its mix of science fiction, family drama and mystery.

Collider described Night Sky as “a breath of fresh air in the science fiction genre.” It also praised the decision to place older characters at the center of the story, with Spacek and Simmons leading the cast as married couple Irene and Franklin York.
Created by Holden Miller for Amazon Studios and Legendary Television, Night Sky follows Irene and Franklin York, an elderly couple living in Illinois who have kept a major secret for years.
Hidden beneath their property is a chamber that leads to a viewing platform on another planet. The Yorks have discovered a way to reach the strange world but have never fully understood the portal or what lies beyond it.
Franklin says the couple has visited the chamber 856 times. For years, the portal becomes part of their quiet life together, giving them a private place away from the problems they face at home.
Their lives change when a mysterious young man named Jude suddenly appears near the portal. Jude, played by Chai Hansen, is connected to a secret group and becomes part of the Yorks’ increasingly complicated situation.
The story also moves beyond Illinois. In Argentina, Stella, played by Julieta Zylberberg, guards another portal located near a church. Her teenage daughter Toni, played by Rocío Hernández, eventually learns about the secret.
The series therefore brings together several storylines involving the York family, the portals and secret groups connected to the mysterious worlds.
At the center of it all are Spacek and Simmons. The Guardian praised their work as Irene and Franklin, noting how their performances show the history and closeness of a couple who have spent more than 50 years together.
The Guardian also pointed to the emotional side of the series. Irene and Franklin are dealing with the realities of growing older. Irene’s mobility becomes more limited after a fall, while Franklin begins experiencing memory problems. They are also dealing with the loss of their son, Michael.
The show received largely positive reviews but failed to make a major enough impact with viewers to justify the sizable production costs connected to its science-fiction elements.
Rotten Tomatoes later listed the first season with a 75% Tomatometer score based on 48 reviews and an 80% Popcornmeter score based on more than 250 audience ratings.
The series also received a 66 out of 100 score from Metacritic based on 18 critics, indicating generally favorable reviews.
Although the cancellation ended the story after one season, Night Sky had already made an unusual mark outside the episodes themselves.

Rising Country Star Honors Dolly Parton at Opry Debut, Breaks Down After Standing Ovation: ‘I Need Just One Second’ (Exclusive)
In one of the biggest moments of her young career, Belle Frantz stepped onto the Grand Ole Opry stage for the first time Saturday night, Aug. 29, and used her long-awaited debut to honor one of the women who helped give her the courage to make the music she wanted to make: Dolly Parton.
Frantz paid tribute to the late country legend during the Opry’s celebration of Parton, becoming emotional after the audience gave her a standing ovation. You can watch a replay of the livestream here.
“This moment and you and this, I will never forget this for my entire life,” Frantz told the crowd in video captured by a Parade editor at the Opry. Fighting back tears, she stopped herself and admitted, “I need just one second. I’m sorry, Opry.”
When someone in the audience shouted, “We love you,” Frantz answered simply, “I love you.”
Belle Frantz Honors Dolly Parton During Her Opry Debut Belle Frantz honors Dolly Parton at the Grand Ole Opry (1:22)Earlier in her performance, Frantz admitted that she was struggling to put the significance of her Opry debut into words.
“I’ve dreamed about this since I was a little girl,” she told the audience. “I don’t even have words for it right now, but I do have words for Miss Dolly Parton.”
Frantz then spoke about a side of Parton that particularly resonated with her: the country icon’s willingness to openly embrace her faith without imposing it on anyone else.
“Dolly was a bold person,” Frantz said. “And she was never afraid to talk about her faith and to sing the gospel. She loved the gospel so dearly.”
“She knew she could be two things at once,” Frantz continued. “She was witty and a little naughty, and she was faithful. She never shied from it. But she also never made anyone feel like they had to be faithful too.”
In Parton’s honor, Frantz performed the gospel song “Where No One Stands Alone.”
The moment carried another layer of significance for Frantz. She had been scheduled to open for Parton during the country legend’s planned Las Vegas residency last year before the shows were canceled, making Saturday’s tribute a poignant connection between a performance that never happened and Frantz’s first night on country music’s most famous stage.

Belle Frantz Breaks Down After a Standing Ovation Belle Frantz Gets a Standing Ovation in Her Opry Debut (2:15)The audience’s response left Frantz visibly overwhelmed, but after collecting herself, she returned to Parton and explained just how much the late singer’s example had influenced her own career.
Frantz is preparing to release her debut album Hymns From a Barstool on Nov. 6. For a young singer trying to establish herself as a country artist, making a gospel album as her first full-length project could have felt like a risk.
Parton, Frantz said, helped give her the confidence to take it.
“I’m a country artist and I’m making my debut album this year, November 6th, and it is so scary to make a debut album in general,” Frantz told the Opry crowd. “It’s even a little bit scarier for your debut album, for some people to say, to be a gospel album.”
“But I felt bold enough to do that because of Miss Dolly Parton,” she added.
Frantz also reflected on the extraordinary response to Parton’s death, telling the crowd that despite how divided people can be, “we came together as one person” to mourn her.
“She was a great example,” Frantz said.
How Dolly Parton Inspired Belle Frantz’s Debut Album @mara.h.tso proud!! @Belle Frantz that stage was made for you and the makeup ate #countrymusic #opry #bellefrantz #oprydebut #dollyparton
♬ original sound – maraFor Frantz, gospel music isn’t separate from her country roots. It’s woven directly into them.
“I love hymns,” she said. “And I love the Lord. And that is such a big part of me and how I was raised. But I also believe that God is way more of a feeling than a building.”
That connection is at the heart of Hymns From a Barstool, which will feature collaborations with Wynonna Judd and Frantz’s longtime hero Reba McEntire.
Part of the album was recorded at Elvis Presley’s childhood church, a location that carries its own family connection for Frantz: It was also her great-grandfather’s church.
Frantz, a Greenwood Springs, Miss., native, has built her career around the traditional country music she grew up loving. After releasing her debut EP Why I Sing This Way in 2023, she went on to share stages with Willie Nelson, Alabama and Tracy Lawrence. She also co-wrote “Lonely’s What I Do” with Vince Gill, who later recorded the song.
But on the night Frantz finally realized her childhood dream of performing at the Grand Ole Opry, she kept returning to Parton.
Before performing an original song from her upcoming album, Frantz explained that she wanted to honor not only Parton’s faith, but the songwriter in her as well.
“I wrote this next song a lot about her,” Frantz told the audience.
And after a standing ovation brought Frantz to tears on the stage she’d dreamed about since childhood, Parton’s lesson about being “bold” suddenly felt less like a tribute and more like something Frantz was already putting into practice.
Candace Cameron Bure Wants Another ‘Full House’ Series—And She Already Has a Name for It
It’s been nearly 40 years since Full House first came to TV screens, and 10 years since the Tanner family returned in Fuller House. Although the latter ended in 2020, Candace Cameron Bure would love to see the Tanner family get one more installment.
When asked by Woman’s World what role she would like to reprise, Cameron Bure, who played DJ Tanner, said, “I would love to do the third iteration of Full House, like Fullest House or something. That would be the dream.”
While Cameron Bure didn’t elaborate on her idea for a Fullest House series, she did speak with the magazine about the significance of the original series.
“It’s been a dream to have been a part of a show that has a real, true legacy,” she said in the interview. “It’s never been off the air in over 35 years. Full House means so much to so many people. I was on the show from [age] 10 to 18, and you never know how something’s gonna go and what it’s gonna mean to people. So when I look back, I have so much appreciation.”
Cameron Bure continued, saying that she loved getting to play DJ and reprising her role in Fuller House.
“It’s just a huge, special part of my life that still lives on,” she said. “There’s always new fans and new generations that watch both of the shows, and it means a ton to me.”
On Sept. 24, Cameron Bure will step into a new role as a celebrity recruit on season 5 of Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test. Set in the jungles of Malaysia, the recruits will face military-inspired challenges, endure harsh environments and complete endurance tests.
When asked which of the Tanner sisters would be the first to agree to join Special Forces, Cameron Bure answered, “Oh, DJ would.”
“She’s kind of me,” Cameron Bure said. “She’s like a little hyper version of me, but DJ was always into physical fitness too, so she would definitely say yes.”

1949 Country Classic, Recorded in a Single Afternoon, Still Brings Listeners to Tears 77 Years Later
More than seven decades after Hank Williams recorded one of country music’s most enduring songs, “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry” remains as heartbreaking today as it was in 1949.
Per Classic Country TV Journal, Williams recorded the classic on Aug. 30, 1949, during a single afternoon session at E.T. Herzog Studio in Cincinnati. The remarkable session also produced several other songs, including “My Bucket’s Got a Hole in It,” making it one of the most celebrated recording dates of his legendary career.
Williams was only 26 years old, but the emotional depth of the song has resonated with generations of listeners ever since.
Its opening lyric has become one of the most recognizable in country music:
“Hear that lonesome whippoorwill / He sounds too blue to fly…”
A whippoorwill is a small nocturnal bird famous for its haunting nighttime call. Williams used the bird as a symbol of loneliness, suggesting it sounded so sorrowful it could barely take flight. The image immediately establishes the aching mood that has made the song one of country music’s most unforgettable ballads.
The song’s influence only grew with time. More than 75 years after its release, a YouTube upload of “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry” has topped 29 million views, with listeners calling it one of the saddest — and most beautiful — songs ever written.
Originally released as the B-side to “My Bucket’s Got a Hole in It,” “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry” eventually became one of Williams’ signature recordings. It has since been covered by hundreds of artists, including Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Al Green, Little Richard, The Everly Brothers, and B.J. Thomas.
Elvis once called it “probably the saddest song I’ve ever heard” before performing it during his landmark Aloha from Hawaii television special in 1973.

The ballad has also earned lasting critical acclaim. Rolling Stone ranked it among the greatest songs ever recorded, and its poetic lyrics continue to influence country and Americana songwriters more than 75 years after Williams first sang them into a microphone.
Today, the song stands as one of the defining achievements of Williams’ brief but extraordinary career.
Kenny Rogers’ Face Said It All When Dolly Parton Joined Him Onstage in 1985 — 41 Years Later, Fans Haven’t Forgotten It
Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers had one of the most beloved partnerships in country music. From their No. 1 hit with “Islands in the Stream,” to songs such as “Real Love” and “The Greatest Gift of All,” the music icons had an undeniable chemistry that was unmatched.
The duo also toured together, and one unforgettable moment from a 1985 performance is gaining new attention following Parton’s death on Aug. 25.
In a widely resurfaced clip making the rounds on social media, Rogers is seen onstage alone during a 1985 concert. He sings the first verse of the Bob Seger classic, “We’ve Got Tonight,” which he first covered in 1983 as a duet with Sheena Easton.
But Parton then walks out from offstage, dressed in black sequins and flanked by bodyguards, to sing the second verse, which starts with the line “Deep in my soul.”
Rogers’ reaction is priceless as he bites his bottom lip and smiles with joy, his face lighting up at the sound of his friend’s beautiful voice coming in his direction. He helps Parton onstage where they continue the song, but the blonde powerhouse isn’t done surprising fans yet. At one point, she changes the song’s “who needs tomorrow” lyric to “who needs Sheena Easton?”
Fans on social media have been turning to the clip in the days since Parton’s death, with many reflecting on their special bond and commenting on the look on Rogers’ face when Parton starts singing.
“His look,“ one fan wrote of Rogers’ reaction to Parton’s entrance.
“The grin on his face when she starts to sing makes me just weep,” another wrote on Instagram.
“The friendship they had was so strong and special,” a third fan added.
Rogers and Parton’s chemistry never translated into a real-life romance. When they first performed together in the 1980s, both were married to other people and were respectful of each other’s marriages.
In an interview several years before his 2020 death, Rogers told AXS TV’s Dan Rather that he had a unique bond with Parton that never went beyond flirting.
“I met her husband [Carl Dean] first of all, and I was married to [my fourth wife] Marianne through that whole time,” Rogers said. “What we did is we flirted with each other for 30 years, and it was much more electric. I think once you consummate a relationship like that, it loses something. So we did some massive flirting in front of the nation, but there was never anything more than that.”
Following Rogers’ death in 2020, Parton told People magazine she missed him immeasurably.
“Kenny — he was very, very dear and special and I never get tired of hearing us sing, all the years that we were on stage together,” the “Jolene” singer shared. I never got tired of Kenny’s voice.”

Olivia Rodrigo & Stevie Nicks Team Up to Duet this 1975 Fleetwood Mac Song
Olivia Rodrigo had a very special surprise in store for fans at her inaugural Daisy Chain Fields festival.
The singer brought out rock legend Stevie Nicks during her headlining set at the festival in Irvine, California, where the two joined forces for a rendition of Fleetwood Mac‘s 1975 classic “Landslide.” Trading verses and dancing together under the lights of the Great Park amphitheater, it was the kind of once-in-a-lifetime onstage moment that left the crowd stunned.
Nicks clearly felt it too. “She reminds me of me, when I was her age a hundred years ago,” she told the crowd, adding that she was “somewhat awestruck” watching Rodrigo pull off an entire festival with such grace. Coming from the Gold Dust Woman herself, that’s about as high a compliment as it gets.
For Rodrigo, the moment was years in the making. In a 2023 Rolling Stone cover story, she recalled watching Nicks perform “Landslide” to a packed stadium and feeling something shift inside her. “That heartbreak that you feel when you’re young, thinking about singing that song when I’m Stevie Nicks’ age … it’s really powerful,” she said. On Saturday night, she didn’t have to imagine anymore.
The duet closed out a headlining set that also featured Daisy Chain’s founding inspiration, Sarah McLachlan, joining Rodrigo for “Building a Mystery” and “Angel” the latter dedicated to the recently departed Dolly Parton and Alanis Morissette delivering a roof-raising “Ironic.” The all-women festival, inspired by McLachlan’s Lilith Fair, donated $10 million to nonprofits supporting women and girls.
“I feel like I’m dreaming,” Rodrigo told the crowd. “This is the best day of my f—in’ life!” With Stevie Nicks by her side for “Landslide,” we can relate.

Legendary Reel Big Fish Band Member Turns 52 Today
Aaron Barrett is an iconic songwriter and frontman for the ska band, Reel Big Fish. He formed the group when he was only a teenager in high school. Today, he turns 52.
When asked whether there are any rules for what a Reel Big Fish song should sound like in an interview with The Indy Review, Barrett said, “I didn’t start a band so I could follow a bunch of rules! I’ve pretty much just always written songs that I felt like writing. They didn’t have to be ska or have horns or whatever (I’m just best at writing that kind of song). Every RBF album has a few weird experimental or just different or strange-sounding songs on it… at least a couple.”

Barrett also spoke with 100 Percent Rock about how much he enjoys touring and how important it is to their band. “We tour, we play, and it’s just what we do,” he said. “It’s what we love, and it’s definitely what keeps this band going. It’s what keeps us relevant with our fans. The constant touring, never letting them forget about us.”
He continued, “Reel Big Fish as a band have definitely built its reputation on its live show, and that’s proven to be very beneficial for us. There are a lot of fans that are more into the idea of writing music and making records, and we love that aspect of it too, but a lot of people don’t place a whole lot of emphasis on touring, and that’s sort of, like I said, that’s what a big part of this band is. And once again, going back to the internet, it’s certainly helped us reach an international audience that may have never been possible for us. As long as our music gets out there and people enjoy it, it definitely makes it worth it for us to just keep going and keep doing it.”

Reel Big Fish is known for both their original songs and their fun covers. Some of their most popular songs are “Sell Out,” “Take On Me,” and “Beer.” The band is still performing to this day and is set to attend Vans Warped Tour in Orlando this November.
Sabrina the Teenage Witch Star Reveals She Was Cut From This 1986 Hit Film
Sometimes the unexpected outcome you didn’t want can still produce a positive result.
Melissa Joan Hart discovered that firsthand when she was just 10 years old. Before she became one of television’s most recognizable child stars, Hart landed a small role in the 1986 comedy Crocodile Dundee, but moviegoers never got to see her performance.
Hart recently looked back on the unusual credit during an interview with Page Six’s Virtual Reali-Tea, revealing that she still receives residual payments from the movie despite being cut from the finished film.
“I was in Crocodile Dundee, and even though you will not see my face in it – I was cut out – I still get my 26 cents every few months or something,” she told PEOPLE.
Her brief role was filmed for a scene in which a young girl skins her knee in Central Park and is helped by Paul Hogan’s title character. Although the scene ultimately didn’t survive the editing process, the experience gave Hart an early introduction to one of the less glamorous realities of being an actor.
“You find that you have a lot of rejection and you learn young that you have to let it go, and if you don’t have thick skin, you aren’t going to make it,” Hart said in a 2011 interview with SheKnows.
Hart in “Clarissa Explains It All” (1991)That lesson would come in handy as Hart continued building her career. She eventually landed the starring role of Clarissa Darling on Nickelodeon’s Clarissa Explains It All, followed by the title role in Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Both shows became defining parts of Hart’s career, with Clarissa Explains It All running from 1991 to 1994 and Sabrina the Teenage Witch airing from 1996 to 2003.
Decades later, the little role that disappeared from Crocodile Dundee has still managed to follow Hart around in the form of those tiny residual checks. And Hart has a sense of humor about it. She joked that there’s even a Los Angeles bar called Residuals where performers can put their residual money toward drinks.
Twenty-six cents at a time, not a bad return on a scene that never aired.
Disneyland Paris Restores a Classic ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Feature, Bringing Back a Piece of Park History
If you’re a Disney history buff or have strolled past the fortress walls of Adventureland in Disneyland Paris, you know that sound is everything when it comes to setting the mood. The music playing in the background does the heavy lifting, pulling you out of the everyday world and dropping you straight into a high-seas adventure before you even step into a queue.
Now, Disneyland Paris is proving that sometimes the best way to move forward is to look back.
As reported by Inside the Magic, the park has officially reversed a nine-year-old atmospheric change in a rare move, restoring its original 1992 opening-day Adventureland music loop and replacing the Hollywood movie scores that have played throughout the land since 2017.

A Nine-Year Cinematic DetourMeghann Foye
When Disneyland Paris opened its gates in 1992, its version of Pirates of the Caribbean was widely hailed by theme park fans as one of the most immersive and atmospheric ever built. Back then, the surrounding walkways of Adventureland featured a rich, custom background music loop that set a mysterious, tropical, and untamed tone.
That changed in 2017 during a major park refurbishment. Leaning heavily into the massive success of the theatrical franchise, Disney updated the attraction to include Audio-Animatronic figures of Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow.
At the same time, Imagineers swapped out the original 1992 ambient area soundtrack for orchestral arrangements pulled straight from the cinematic film scores composed by Hans Zimmer and Klaus Badelt. For nearly a decade, the cinematic swelling of the movies became the default soundtrack for anyone grabbing a snack or walking toward the ride.

Bringing Back the Original 1992 AtmosphereTheme park goers this summer caught an immediate difference in the air. Disneyland Paris quietly retired the film-heavy soundtrack and restored the land’s classic 1992 musical loop across Adventureland.
While Captain Jack Sparrow remains firmly in place inside the attraction itself, bringing back the vintage score outside the ride restores a subtle layer of the park’s original charm and identity. Rather than feeling like a continuous movie promotion, the area once again offers the eclectic, mood-setting soundscape that original visitors fell in love with more than 30 years ago.

Balancing Nostalgia and Modern Tech Across Disney ParksThe musical rollback in Paris highlights the delicate balance Disney strikes between honoring heritage and keeping classic attractions fresh. Over in California at Disneyland Resort, a recent update introduced a transforming figure that shifts from a living pirate into a skeletal form right before riders’ eyes using a blend of modern projection mapping and new Audio-Animatronic technology. At multiple parks, the historic auction sequence was also famously reimagined to transform the iconic red-haired character, Redd, into an independent pirate running the plunder trade herself.
As Inside the Magic Writer Sarah Larson wrote, “It’s a notable move because Disney doesn’t always reverse additions that have remained in place this long. Once an update becomes part of a land’s atmosphere, it can stick around for years or become the new normal for visitors.”
Larson highlighted how this deliberate step backward fits into the broader philosophy of how Disney maintains classic lands, noting that “The update shows how Disney approaches older attractions. The company often preserves recognizable settings and characters while changing elements it believes need updating.”
In this case, rather than treating every corner of the park as an extension of a modern blockbuster franchise, Disney recognized that Adventureland’s original identity had a timeless value worth protecting. For park purists and everyday visitors alike, hearing that 1992 soundtrack again proves that Disney is still willing to preserve opening-day atmosphere over pure movie synergy.

’90s Hitmaker, Who Mistook Robbie Williams for Himself During a Drug Spiral, Turns 60
Peter Cunnah, the Northern Irish frontman for D:Ream, whose ’90s dance hits “U R the Best Thing” and “Things Can Only Get Better” became international hits and also found an audience on the U.S. dance charts, is turning 60 today, Aug. 30.
Showing no signs of slowing down, the singer-songwriter released his latest album, Do It Anyway, last year, but the road to 60 has been anything but smooth.
From meteoric pop success, a detour through addiction, then complete withdrawal from music before his triumphant return, Cunnah’s journey has been one of high highs and low lows. But it’s one he hasn’t shied away from sharing.

“I’d forgotten that when you get in a room with your friends, count to four and start playing, the religion of that moment is wonderful,” Cunnah told The Line of Best Fit in August 2025 about his time back in the studio. “You’re spiritual, you’re in communication, you’re in the joy zone.”
Cunnah’s story took a dark turn at the height of his success in the 1990s. In fact, following D:Ream’s split and the fading limelight, he was swept up in a destructive addiction to drugs and alcohol, which escalated to its worst point in 1997.
“I was watching things going on around me,” he said on the Field of Dreams podcast, per The Irish Sun. “I was turning on the TV, and I’m seeing Robbie [Williams, who toured with D:Ream when he was a member of Take That] with my haircut, my mic technique, and the frock coat singing ‘Let Me Entertain You.’ And for a moment there, I thought it was me.”
The two share similar facial features, styling, and swaggering frontman energy, so the story is easy to understand. But the lost grip on reality was actually what caused Cunnah to enter rehab.
“Eventually, you can get to a stage in your usage where the drugs are not working; you’re taking more to try and feel normal. And that’s bizarre,” he said. “I came out of that by just getting clean and going into rehab.”
Before the crash, Cunnah was riding high.
In the early ’90s, Cunnah met DJ Al Mackenzie in London’s club scene, Songfacts reported, and the two musicians formed the British dance-pop group D:Ream around the combination of Cunnah’s songwriting and Mackenzie’s dance-music sensibilities. Before launching officially, they had built up buzz through hyped appearances and remix work for major acts including EMF and Duran Duran.
In 1992, they made their D:Ream debut with “U R the Best Thing,” boosted by a famous remix from DJ Sasha. The song initially peaked at No. 72 on the U.K. singles chart before later reissues propelled it to No. 19 and, ultimately, No. 4.
A year later, they released “Things Can Only Get Better” to modest success. But after they landed a supporting gig with Take That on their massive U.K. tour, the track was remixed and re-released. It was that remix that shot to No. 1 in the U.K, stayed there for four weeks, helping elevate their debut studio album, D:Ream On Volume 1, toward platinum status.
“It was 11 years to overnight success,” Cunnah told MusicRadar.
The group rode the momentum with 1995’s World, which peaked at No. 5 on the U.K. Official Albums Chart. During their peak era, D:Ream secured a string of Top 40 hits, including “Shoot Me With Your Love” and “Take Me Away.” In 1997, they got another surprise, this time from the political world.
When the U.K. Labor Party adopted “Things Can Only Get Better” as its official theme song for Tony Blair’s successful general election campaign, the track was transformed from a dance banger into a historical political anthem.
“When you make a song, and it becomes big, people take hold of it, and you can’t control it,” Cunnah told The Line. “So in three decades, it’s gone from being a club come-together song, to a love song, to a protest song. I like that, because people will come and tell you they played it at their wedding. It’s even become a ‘Get well soon‘ song–people ask for it on hospital radio!”
Today, Cunnah remains active in the music world. In addition to the release of Do It Anyway, he’s performed several shows, including the iconic Glastonbury. It looks like things really did get better. Here’s to a happy and healthy 60th!
