1970 Soft Rock Classic, That Became a Career-Defining Song for â70s Legend, Ranked Among âGreatest Songs of All Timeâ
More than 50 years after it first appeared on the landmark 1970 album Moondance, Van Morrisonâs beloved soft rock ballad âInto the Mysticâ is still being celebrated as one of the greatest songs ever recorded.
Rolling Stone ranked the track at No. 462 on its updated list of the â500 Greatest Songs of All Time,â once again placing the dreamy classic among musicâs most respected recordings. The recognition adds another major milestone to a song that many fans and critics consider Morrisonâs defining masterpiece.
âInto the Mysticâ became one of the songs most closely tied to Morrisonâs career. Rolling Stone described the track as âdelectably arrangedâ and âtransportingly sung,â calling it âthe definitive Morrison song.â The magazine also praised the song for feeling âlike a loverâs whisper.â

The publication highlighted how the recording sessions for Moondance helped shape the songâs warm and natural sound.
Even Morrison himself admitted that the songâs deeper meaning remained mysterious to him. Reflecting on his songwriting during that era, he said, âSo many of my songs from that Seventies period, I havenât a clue what theyâre about. A lot of the time, I was just picking up on a vibe.â
Recorded between September and November 1969 at A&R Recording Studios in New York City, âInto the Mysticâ quickly stood out as one of the emotional centerpieces of Moondance. The song blended soft rock, folk, soul, jazz and spiritual themes into a sound that became closely linked to Morrisonâs style.
Music critics have long praised the songâs poetic writing and emotional pull. A review from Rolling Stone famously called it âthe heart of Moondance,â praising lyrics including: âI want to rock your gypsy soul/Just like in the days of old/And magnificently we will fold/Into the mystic.â
The songâs dreamy atmosphere also sparked many interpretations over the years. Morrison once explained that the title was originally written as âInto the Mistyâ before he changed it because the music carried âsomething of an ethereal feeling.â
Critics often connected the song to spiritual searching, love and transformation. Per JSTOR, Johnny Rogan described the recording as something that sounded both heavenly and deeply connected to Morrisonâs Belfast roots.
The songâs lasting impact has only grown stronger with time. In earlier editions of Rolling Stoneâs â500 Greatest Songs of All Time,â âInto the Mysticâ ranked at No. 480 in 2004 and No. 474 in 2010 before rising to No. 462 in the magazineâs 2021 update.
More than five decades after its release, âInto the Mysticâ remains one of Morrisonâs most popular songs worldwide.
The track is currently Morrisonâs second most-streamed song on Spotify, behind âBrown Eyed Girl.â It also reached No. 5 on Billboardâs Rock Digital Song Sales chart and hit No. 1 on Irelandâs radio airplay chart in 2022.
Over the years, many famous artists recorded their own versions of the track. Musicians including Joe Cocker, Michael McDonald, Zac Brown Band, The Wallflowers and Bob Dylan have all performed or recorded the song. For Morrison, whose career began in the 1960s before exploding with albums like Astral Weeks and Moondance, âInto the Mysticâ remains one of the clearest examples of the soulful and spiritual style that made him one of musicâs most respected artists.

Nancy Guthrie Update: New Video Shows Masked Man in Savannah's Mom's Neighborhood
Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrieâs mother, Nancy Guthrie, is still missing three months after her Feb. 1 abduction in Tucson, Ariz., with a new video showing a masked man stealing plants in the 84-year-old's neighborhood.
Recently, News 4 Tucson (KVOA) published footage and stills from a Ring camera in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood, not far away from Nancy's home.
A masked thief is shown in the video footage wearing gloves and a baseball cap, and stealing potted cacti from a driveway. The video was taken at approximately 11 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29. According to the neighbor, who wanted to remain anonymous but posted the clip to the Ring app, the suspect drove a gray Ford F-150.
There is no evidence that the man in the new Ring video is connected to Nancy's case. However, neighbors seemed surprised by the clip, according to KVOA, especially considering that the Pima County Sheriff's Office (PCSD) had increased patrols in the area after neighbors complained about a YouTuber "harassing" residents, KVOA previously reported.

"It is someone walking on your property late at night, uninvited, it might be a small crime, but committing a crime, and it is disturbing," Jeff Lamie, who lives a few homes down from Nancy, told News 4 Tucson. "This drives the point home that we have to be watchful, be aware of our homes but also of our neighbors."
When KVOA reached out to the PCSD about the new footage of the masked person, the department responded, "We have not been advised of anything like this. We will do some research and keep you posted."
On May 1, the investigation into Nancy's disappearance officially reached the three-month mark. The 84-year-old was last seen at her home on the evening of Jan. 31, with family members reporting her missing on Feb. 1. Despite Savannah offering a $1 million reward and the FBI releasing a video and photos showing a masked man on Nancy's front porch, no suspect has been named in the case.

Five Below's New 2-Tier Lazy Susan Is the Elegant Way to Organize for Only $7
I don't know who exactly spearheaded the great Lazy Susan comeback, but I'd like a formal introduction to personally thank them for their service. Because somehow this once-humble spinning tray, previously best known for awkwardly passing the dinner rolls, has become one of the chicest, smartest organizational heroes of modern life. And I, for one, am obsessed.
The Lazy Susan is no longer just hanging out in the center of your grandma's dining table. She's evolved. Now it's organizing spice cabinets, corralling skincare products, taming bathroom chaos, rescuing under-sink disasters, and making countertops look suspiciously put together. It's basically clutter control with rotational flair. And the best part? They've gotten stylish. Wood, marble, acrylic, wovenânow you can spin your way to organization in whatever aesthetic speaks to you.
Spinning Organizer 2-Tier, $7 at Five Below Five Below's Spinning OrganizerFive Below
Here we have Five Below's latest take on the Lazy Susanâits two-tier Spinning Organizer. The look here is pretty elegant considering the $7 price tag. It consists of two clear tiers that have fluted edging around the border. The upper tier is held up by simple silver-toned metal poles.
Keep in mind that when you see it in store at Five Below, it's packaged sort of flat with the pieces stacked on top of one another so you will have to assemble it at home.

Fluting is just when something has those neat vertical grooves or ridges you see on furniture, decor or even architectural details that make something look a little fancier. Think of it as stripes, but elevated.
I love that this Lazy Susan (or spinning organizerâcall it what you want) has two tiers for vertical storage. You could just as easily use it to store skincare products or fragrances in your bathroom as you could use it to organize spices, oil and vinegar in a kitchen. It's that versatile.
Five Below is packed with fun organizing and storage solutions. From dainty little trays that can act as a catch-all for necessities to stackable flower-shaped bins, there's something to hold whatever you might need. And if you're looking to put your jewelry on display, Five Below also has a vintage-looking bracelet bar to keep your sparkly baubles in place.

â70s Rock Band Released First No. 1 Hit Song Five Years After Forming
Despite achieving significant commercial success throughout their career, it took '70s rock band the Doobie Brothers five years to top the Billboard Hot 100.
The Doobie Brothers was formed in 1970 in San Jose, California, by guitarist Tom Johnston, drummer John Hartman, bassist Dave Shogren and guitarist Patrick Simmons. After producing four studio albumsâgarnering initial success with hits like "Listen to the Music" and "Jesus Is Just Alright" from their 1972 album, Toulouse Streetâthe band finally achieved a No. 1 hit with "Black Water."

"Black Water" was an organic and somewhat unexpected triumph for the Doobie Brothers. Much of its success stemmed from a Roanoke, Virginia AM radio station called WROV-AM, which played the song repeatedly due to the region's proximity to the Blackwater River.
The song was originally released as a B-side to "Another Park, Another Sunday" on their fourth album, What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits. The band initially believed the song's sparse acoustic arrangement and experimental a cappella vocals would not fare well as a single. However, after high regional demand and positive listener reviews, they re-released the track as a single in November 1974.
After a few months, the song climbed up the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 1 in March 1975 for one week. The chart-topping track marked a massive milestone in the band's career, further solidifying them as a dominant force in the rock genre.
In 1979, the band followed up their No. 1 success by topping the Hot 100 for a second time with the single, "What a Fool Believes." That track famously won two Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Even after decades, both chart-toppers continue to be recognized as some of the '70s' most defining rock classics.

1973 Nostalgic Hit Saved by âThe Godfatherâ Ranked Among the Best Rock Movies of All TimeÂ
George Lucasâ American Graffiti has long been considered a cultural touchstone. The directorâs second full-length feature, itâs a coming-of-age comedy that borrows from his own teenage years, capturing the sights and sounds of 1962 in a way that turned nostalgia into a cinematic time capsule. Even better: The film was just ranked the best rock movie of 1973 by Ultimate Classic Rock.
Set in the summer of 1962, right after high school graduation and just before Beatlemania, the film rides shotgun with a group of teenagers cruising, drag-racing, sock-hopping, and, of course, listening to Wolfman Jackâs rock-and-roll hits on the radio. When youâre feeling nostalgic for nostalgia, it doesnât get better than this slice of teenage Americana.
View this post on InstagramFeaturing more than 40 classic rock hits, including Del Shannon's "Runaway," the Crickets' "That'll Be the Day," and the Del-Vikings' "Come Go With Me," the soundtrack is a cultural phenomenon itself. A near complete re-creation of the filmâs tracklist, the double album sold more than 3 million copies. One major rock-and-roll voice missing from the rock soundtrack? The King. The crew behind the picture just couldnât afford Elvis Presely.Â
"The kids in American Graffiti are therefore probably the only teenagers in America who could listen to the radio all night in 1962 and never hear an Elvis song," Mental Flosswrites.
American Graffiti is just full of fun trivia like that. Beyond the music, the film itself was forced to overcome hurdle after hurdle. The biggest might have been that producers were angling for a TV movie release. That is, until Francis Ford Coppola boarded the project as a producer, flexed his Oscar-winning Godfather moxie, and insisted on a theatrical release. Made âem an offer they couldn't refuse, eh?
The filmâs cast was stacked â Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Cindy Williams, Candy Clark, Harrison Ford â but again, not without obstacles. Ford, who was working as a carpenter to support his wife and two kids, per Mental Floss, was approached for the role of Bob Falfa, but wouldnât agree to the part unless he could keep his hair long. They compromised by fitting the newbie with a Stetson.Â
Meanwhile, Mackenzie Phillips, the daughter of John Phillips, the lead singer of The Mamas & the Papas, was just 12 years old at the time of filming and had to be legally taken under guardianship of a producer, per California law. She lived with the producerâs family for the duration of production.
Today, the film is a blueprint for nostalgia-driven storytelling and teen hangout cinema, influencing everything from Richard Linklaterâs Dazed and Confused to Amy Heckerlingâs Fast Times at Ridgemont High and even the broader teen comedy wave of John Hughesâ classics.Â

Inspired by the real-life radio DJ of his youth, Wolfman Jack (yes, the very same DJ featured in the film), Lucas ultimately turned personal memory into something far bigger and better than an autobiography. He turned his nostalgia into our favorite most nostalgic rock movie of all time.
American Graffiti is streaming on Netflix.

1972 Country Classic, Which Became a No. 1 Hit Over a Decade Later, Ranked Among the âGreatest Songs of All Timeâ
In 1972, a quietly released song would go on to become one of country music's most enduring classics, though its biggest success wouldn't come until years later.
"Pancho and Lefty," written and first recorded by Townes Van Zandt, has since been ranked among the greatest songs of all time by Rolling Stone, celebrated for its storytelling and emotional depth.
"I realize that I wrote it," Van Zandt said in an interview. "But it's hard to take credit for the writing because it came from out of the blue. It was like it came through me, and it's a real nice song."
Originally released on Van Zandt's album The Late Great Townes Van Zandt, the song flew largely under the radar and didn't achieve major commercial success at the time. But its haunting narrative, centered on the lives of two outlaws and the consequences of betrayal, quickly earned it a reputation as a songwriter's masterpiece.
That reputation only grew over time, eventually catching the attention of two country music legends.
In 1983, Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard recorded their own version of "Pancho and Lefty," introducing the song to a much wider audience. Their duet brought new life to the track, pairing their distinct and legendary voices to amplify its emotional weight.
"I had been asleep about ten minutes, and he knocked on my bus," Haggard told Houston Press. "I got up â anybody else but him and I wouldnât have even opened the door. But I opened the door and said, 'What's going on, Will?'" Nelson responded, "I found us a song."
Little did the pair know that they were making music history.
The result was a massive success. The cover version climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles, more than a decade after the song's original release.
The contrast between the song's modest beginnings and its later chart-topping success only adds to its legacy. It's a rare example of a track that found its full commercial impact long after its creation without losing the raw emotion that made it special in the first place.
Today, "Pancho and Lefty" is widely regarded as one of the finest examples of narrative songwriting in country music.
Its journey from overlooked release to No. 1 hit proves that some songs don't just endure, they grow into their greatness over time.

Carol Burnett Glows on the Red Carpet Less Than a Week After Turning 93
Carol Burnett just turned 93 last week, and she's still the queen of the red carpet.
The titan of comedy, who broke boundaries and created endless belly laughs with her timeless comedy series The Carol Burnett Show, which ran from 1967 to 1978 on CBS,  recently returned for season 2 of the Apple TV+ series Palm Royale. Still thriving, she hit the red carpet before speaking onstage at "We Have This Time Together: A Conversation with Carol Burnett" during the 2026 TCM Classic Film Festival at The Hollywood Roosevelt on May 01. With a bright smile on her face, Burnett made it clear that she's not slowing down anytime soon.

Burnett Wouldnât Be Interested In Hosting Saturday Night Live AnymoreRecently, Burnett opened up in a profile in the New Yorker about why Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels has never asked her to host the iconic program.
âI donât know what I did to upset that man,â Burnett told the publication. âDo you think itâs misogynistic?â she asked her interviewer.
The piece noted that Michaels declined to comment in response.
The piece continued, explaining that Burnett is an icon to many of the stars who have come to prominence on SNL. When Burnett presented Amy Poehler with a lifetime achievement award at Varietyâs Power of Women event last year, Poehler made it clear how grateful she is to Burnett for forging a path before her.
âI wanted to thank my mother, the mother,â Poehler said, adding, â âS.N.L.â owes everything to you.â
The closest Burnett came to hosting was making a brief appearance in a 1985 segment when host Harry Anderson shouted her out, the piece notes.
While Burnett openly questioned what she did to upset Michaels, she made it clear she wouldnât be interested in hosting SNL anytime soon. Back in 2019, she confirmed that the window had closed.
âNo, I donât think I would. Maybe like 20 years ago or whatever,â she told Vulture. âBut that ship has sailed.â

In 2007, a film made history for its beautiful soundtrack and rock-star lead.
Rotten Tomatoes ranked the 300 best films ever made, compiling a list of the greatest works in cinema history. Ranked among classic films such as Christopher Nolan's 2008 film The Dark Night at No. 155 and Wolfgang Petersen's 1981 film, Das Boot at No. 153, John Carney's 2007 film Once secured the No. 154 spot.
Released on January 20, 2007, at the Sundance Film Festival, Once became a culturally impactful film. In May 2007, the movie had its U.S. theatrical release, which introduced the project to a wider audience and significantly increased its exposure.
Glen Hansard and Steve Kazee attend the "Once" Broadway opening night at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on March 18, 2012 in New York City.Once was considered a "sleeper" hit, with its popularity taking off after positive word-of-mouth reviews and critical acclaim. In total, the film grossed over $20 million worldwideâan impressive feat for a project with a budget of only $150,000.
Aside from its commercial success, the film's stunning musical score was recognized at the 80th annual Academy Awards, taking home the Oscar for Best Original Song for "Falling Slowly." The film also received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album.
The film starred Glen Hansard, the '90s Irish rock star and frontman of the band The Frames, as the lead character, Guy. Director John Carney, a former bassist for The Frames, cast Hansard after Cillian Murphy dropped out of the project. Following the release of six albums with his band, Hansard was able to add actor, Academy Award winner and Grammy nominee to his credentials.

Today, Once continues to make waves in popular culture. After closing on Broadway in 2015, the film's Tony-winning musical adaptation is expected to return with a reimagining at the Pitlochry Festival Theatre later this year.

Every home has its "thing," right? That one quirky little design choice that makes you wonder what on earth the original builder was thinking. Unless you custom-built your dream house down to the exact outlet placement (in which case, congratulations, you magical unicorn), most of us are out here lovingly coexisting with at least one mildly annoying feature.
Maybe it's a door that opens weird, a closet the size of a cereal box, or, in my case, the absolute baffling shortage of electrical outlets in an older home. Trulyâwho decided one outlet in an entire bedroom corner was enough for modern life? I'd love matching lamps on both nightstands like the polished adult I aspire to be, but apparently, my house said, "Choose one." Sure, I could wrangle extension cords and power strips into some sort of DIY electrical obstacle course, but no thanks.

Jerry Seinfeld Isnât Holding Back About People Who Drive Electric Cars: âA Big, Stupid Virtue Signal'
Jerry Seinfeld has a few choice words about driving electric cars.
The legendary comedian and creator of Seinfeld, 72, who rose to stardom in the '90s in the lead role on the world's favorite "show about nothing," kept us laughing with Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee until 2019. In 2024, he directed Unfrosted, a feature for Netflix, and still makes occasional appearances on other shows. A seasoned car enthusiast, Seinfeld opened up about his passion for vehicles in a new interview. But if there's one thing you shouldn't expect him to be driving anytime soon, it's an electric car. When asked if he's "on the electrification train" by Air Mail, Seinfeld had a few choice words to say.
"No, Iâm not interested in electric cars at all. Anybody else wants to do it, thatâs fine. I think itâs a big, stupid virtue signal. Look at me. Iâm saving the planet, yeah. What about the lithium? Itâs all BS," Seinfeld shared.
The comedy icon, who has been married to Jessica Seinfeld since 1999, made it clear that while Hollywood may be filled with people who have addiction issues, his biggest vice is his penchant for buying and selling cars.
"Iâve never had really any problems with addiction, except this. Selling cars can be very exciting, too. Itâs pretty clear that cars coming and going seems to stimulate some receptor in the brain for people that are genetically inclined. Itâs powerful stuff," he continued.
Reuniting With Larry David and Julia Louis DreyfusBack in December, Seinfeld made fans of his iconic TV series smile when they saw him reunite with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who rose to stardom as Elaine Benes on the series, and Larry David, who co-created the show. While it had been a whopping 37 years since the show first hit the airwaves, the trio still found the time to laugh and smile together. Now that's a lasting friendship.
