1994 Classic by One of the ‘Greatest Country Artists of All Time’ Became a No. 1 Hit
32 years ago today, on April 30, 1994, Faith Hill scored her second No. 1 hit with her cover of the rock ‘n’ roll classic “Piece of My Heart.” The tune’s release followed the chart-topping success of the singer’s debut single, “Wild One,” which cemented her as an unstoppable force and undeniable female powerhouse in the country genre.
Written by Jerry Ragovoy and Bert Berns, “Piece of My Heart” finds the singer showcasing a sense of vulnerability as they question why their significant other is taking their romance for granted. Throughout the chorus, the singer accepts that the relationship is one-sided and continues to stick with the cycle of being with someone who lacks true love and commitment.
Different RenditionsBefore Hill released her rendition of “Piece of My Heart,” the song had already gone through several recordings, with Janis Joplin’s version becoming the definitive one. Surprisingly, however, Joplin’s take on the classic did not top any chart, but Hill’s did.
Joplin’s 1968 rendition, recorded with Big Brother and the Holding Company, made it to the No. 12 spot on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming a pop hit. Hill’s, meanwhile, topped the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart (now known as the Hot Country Songs chart) for one week. Additionally, the song reached No. 1 on the Canadian country charts in 1994.
Faith Hill Was Unfamiliar With the Song Before She Recorded ItIn an interview on former Canadian daytime talk show The Dini Petty Show, shared via YouTube, Hill, who in 2024 was named one of Billboard’s ‘Greatest Country Artists of All Time’, reflected on her recording of the song, admitting that she was unfamiliar with Joplin’s version.
“If I had [heard Janis Joplin’s version], my version would’ve been a lot different, but a friend of mine in Nashville had recorded it on another female, and they recorded it country, and that’s how I learned it,” Hill explained. “So when [my producer] Scott Hendricks and I started working together, we just took that and made it our own. We added my personality and style to it.”
“When Warner Brothers found out that I hadn’t heard Janis Joplin, they said, ‘Whatever you do, do not listen to that record until you finish recording yours, just don’t...,” she added before sharing her reaction to hearing Joplin’s rendition later on. “I couldn’t believe it. I couldn't believe I had taken this legend’s song and recorded it country, but it works.”
A third version of the tune, and the original, was recorded by Emma Franklin, who, in 1967, took her soul-tinged track to the No. 10 spot on Billboard’s Hot Rhythm & Blues Singles chart. Other interpretations of the hit include Dusty Springfield’s in 1968 and Melissa Etheridge and Joss Stone’s duet on the song in 2005.
Hill’s “Piece of My Heart” appears on her debut album, Take Me as I Am, which also spawned a top 5 hit with the title track.

Target’s 'Versatile' and 'Comfy' $60 Floor Lounge Chair Is the Smartest Small-Space Upgrade
Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.
When you’re working with limited space, your furniture can’t just be decorative — it needs a job. Actually, multiple jobs. There’s no room for pieces that just sit there looking pretty while you’re trying to make everything fit. If it’s taking up space, it should be pulling its weight, like a coffee table with hidden storage, a bench that works as both seating and a landing spot, or a rolling cart you can move from room to room.
That kind of flexibility is exactly what the Costway Adjustable 14-Position Floor Chair at Target delivers — and right now, it’s on sale. It’s currently marked down by a massive 71%, dropping from $210 to just $60. For something that can flex into multiple uses without taking up much room, that price point makes it an easy yes.
Costway Adjustable 14-Position Floor Chair, From $60 (was $210) at Target Shop at TargetInstead of a fixed setup, this floor chair is built around adjustability and structure. The backrest moves through 14 settings, so you can set it upright for reading or working, angle it back for more relaxed use, or lay it nearly flat when you want to nap or host overnight guests. Inside, a steel frame that can support up to 264 pounds runs through the core of the chair, giving it consistent support through the back and waist without needing to lean against a wall. The backrest has a slight curve to align with your spine, and the hinge system is designed to hold each position in place without slipping.
The seat is padded with high-resilience sponge cushioning, which is designed to maintain its shape, even with repeated use. It’s covered in a cotton and linen fabric blend, which allows for airflow and helps regulate temperature. Fully extended, it measures approximately 42 inches in length, 21 inches in width, and 4 inches in thickness.
When not in use, the chair folds completely flat, reducing it to a low-profile form that can be stored under a bed, in a closet, or along a wall. Weighing 9.5 pounds, it’s also light enough to carry between rooms.

Shoppers left plenty of praise for this “versatile” and “really comfy” lounger in the reviews section. “The ergonomic design provides great back support, and the steel frame feels sturdy, easily supporting my weight. It's lightweight yet durable, and I love how it folds flat for easy storage under the bed,” one shopper wrote.

Country Music Legend David Allan Coe Dead at 86
David Allan Coe, the country music singer known for hits such as “You Never Even Called Me by My Name,” has died. He was 86.
Rolling Stone confirmed Coe’s death on Wednesday, April 29. His cause of death was not known by the outlet at the time of publication.
Born in Akron, Ohio, on Sept. 6, 1939, Coe spent much of his young adulthood serving time in correctional facilities for a variety of crimes. His stints behind bars helped him cultivate the outlaw persona he would carry with him into his music career.
After making his way to Nashville in 1967, Coe initially achieved recognition as a songwriter when Tanya Tucker’s rendition of “Would You Lay With Me (In a Field of Stone)” hit No. 1 in 1973. The song’s success led to Coe being signed by Columbia Records.
Coe ventured fully into country music with his 1974 album, The Mysterious Rhinestone Cowboy. The following year, he recorded his own version of “Would You Lay With Me (In a Field of Stone)” for his 1975 album, Once Upon a Rhyme, but it was another song on the album that became a career-defining top 10 hit for Coe: “You Never Even Called Me by My Name.”
The track includes several memorable lyrics—for instance, the spoken word portion where Coe refers to it as “the perfect country and western song.” Elsewhere, he name-checks himself, singing, “But the only time I know I’ll hear ‘David Allan Coe’ / Is when Jesus has His final judgment day.”
Throughout his career, Coe made a point to mention himself in several of his songs, including 1976’s “Longhaired Redneck,” 1977’s “Willie, Waylon and Me” and 1986’s “Son of the South.”

While the height of his success came in the ‘70s, Coe enjoyed a comeback in 1983 with his album Castles in the Sand, which featured the popular single “The Ride.”
Outside of his own music, Coe was well-known for his songwriting for other artists. In addition to Tucker’s “Would You Lay With Me (In a Field of Stone),” he famously penned the 1977 No. 1 hit “Take This Job and Shove It” by Johnny Paycheck.
In the later years of his career, Coe continued to release his own new albums and perform live.
Despite his place in country music history, Coe was not without his controversies. He incited backlash for his use of racial slurs and misogynistic language on his albums Nothing Sacred in 1978 and Underground Album in 1982, though he later claimed the projects were meant to serve as parodies.
Decades later, Coe found himself in legal trouble, pleading guilty to impeding and obstructing the administration of Internal Revenue laws in 2015. The following year, he was sentenced to three years of probation and ordered to pay nearly $1 million in back taxes to the IRS.
As for his personal life, Coe married his sixth wife, Kimberly Hastings, in 2010.
Coe is survived by his wife and his children.

1941's 'Citizen Kane', the Greatest Film of All Time, Is Returning to Theaters
Orson Welles' Citizen Kane is celebrating its 85th anniversary in a big way.
The classic film, which is largely regarded as one of the greatest movies of all time, will be returning to theaters this summer.
The 1941 drama will land in major chains including AMC, Regal, Emagine Entertainment and B&B Theatres in early July.
Citizen Kane was not a box office success, but was nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Director, Best Film Editing, and Best Actor for Orson Welles.
It won the award for Best Original Screenplay.
In 2015, a BBC critics poll named Citizen Kane the greatest American film ever made, beating out Francis Ford Coppola's 1972 gangster film, The Godfather. The film has twice been named as the greatest American film ever made by the American Film Institute in its annual "100 YEARS…100 MOVIES" ranking.
"Classic and popular re-releases are an important theatrical programming category, and the curated movies Fathom Entertainment brings to the big screen continue to be embraced by filmgoers of all ages," Fathom CEO Ray Nutt said, according to Variety. "The 2026 Fathom’s Big Screen Classics slate is filled with anniversary celebrations from some of the greatest cinematic masterpieces of all time and showcases a wide breadth of iconic hits and award-winning films. Fathom is also thrilled with the return of Leonard Maltin, casting a spotlight with exclusive introductions for these cinematic treasures."

1999 Rock Classic, Among Longest No. 1 Hit Songs, Became a Timeless Anthem
In 1999, a surprising music pairing changed rock and pop history. Santana, a legendary guitarist known for classic hits from the 1970s, teamed up with Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty, a younger rock singer from a different generation.
The collaboration between the two artists was part of Santana’s comeback album Supernatural. The goal was simple but risky: bring Santana back to radio success after years away from mainstream charts.
Before becoming a hit, “Smooth” almost didn’t happen. Early versions of the song were rejected and reworked many times. The track originally started as an idea called “Room 17,” but it needed new lyrics and a stronger direction before Santana agreed to record it.

Music executives even questioned whether the song would work at all. The pairing of a Latin-rock legend and a modern pop-rock singer seemed risky in a chart dominated by boy bands and teen pop stars.
But once released in June 1999, everything changed.
“Smooth” quickly climbed the charts and reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it stayed for 12 consecutive weeks. Its success made it one of the biggest hits of its time and one of the longest-running No. 1 songs in Billboard history.
The song also became a defining crossover hit, mixing Latin rock guitar, pop vocals, and modern production into one sound that stood out from everything else on radio.
“Smooth” was more than just a chart hit; it became a cultural moment. It is often described as one of the last major songs that united listeners of all ages, from teens to adults, across different music styles.
The song’s impact was so strong that it is still remembered as one of the most successful singles ever recorded. According to music history rankings, it stands among the top-performing songs of all time on the Billboard Hot 100.
Its popularity also came from its unforgettable opening line, which later became a meme and pop culture reference across generations.
The song’s success helped Supernatural become a multi-platinum album and brought Santana back into global fame. It also strengthened Rob Thomas’s career as both a performer and songwriter.
What started as a risky collaboration became one of the most recognizable songs in modern music history, one that still plays today and still gets the same reaction: nostalgia, surprise and recognition.

49 Years Ago, Glen Campbell Took a Song He Didn’t Write All the Way to No. 1
On April 30, 1977, Glen Campbell reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 with "Southern Nights." He didn't write the song, but Campbell made entirely his own.
Originally penned and recorded by Allen Toussaint in 1975, "Southern Nights" had a very different feel in its first incarnation. Toussaint's version leaned into a dreamy, atmospheric sound inspired by childhood memories in Louisiana. When Campbell came across the track, he saw the potential to reimagine it for a broader audience.
The result was a brighter, more upbeat arrangement that blended country, pop and a touch of Southern soul, which was perfectly suited to Campbell’s crossover appeal. By the time it hit the airwaves, the song had transformed into an irresistible singalong, complete with its now-iconic "ba-ba-ba" chorus.
Campbell’s version quickly gained momentum, climbing the charts and eventually landing at No. 1 on the U.S. singles chart. It also topped the country chart, reinforcing his status as one of the few artists who could seamlessly move between genres and dominate both.
At the time, Campbell was already a major star, known for hits like "Rhinestone Cowboy" and "Wichita Lineman." But "Southern Nights" showcased something just as important—his ability to interpret a song and connect with listeners in a way that felt fresh and immediate.
Nearly five decades later, "Southern Nights" remains one of Campbell’s most recognizable hits. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the magic of a song isn’t just in who writes it, but in who brings it to life.

1985 Hit Film Was Just Ranked the 'Most Entertaining Movie of the 1980s'
Movie enthusiasts will agree that there were quite a few captivating box office hits released throughout the 1980s. For instance, Collider recently compiled a list of the "10 most entertaining films" from the decade.
The ranking, released on April 29, featured popular '80s films like Aliens from 1986, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, released in 1989, 1987's The Princess Bride, 1989's Do the Right Thing, andStar Wars: Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back from 1980.
The Robert Zemeckis-directed time travel movie, Back to the Future, released in 1985, was named the "most entertaining" '80s movie. Collider reported that the movie has an interesting, off-the-wall plot and iconic characters, specifically Doc Brown, played by Christopher Lloyd, and Marty McFly, played by Michael J. Fox.
Back to the Future, which spawned two sequels, has a score of 93 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Back to the Future Part II (1989) has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 63 percent, while Back to the Future Part III (1990) has a score of 79 percent.
Michael J. Fox Opened up About the Unusual Way He Got the Role of Marty McFlyWhile some Back to the Future fans might have a hard time picturing anyone else playing the guitar-playing high school student, it's no secret that the original Marty McFly was actor Eric Stoltz.
In a 2001 interview with the Television Academy Foundation, Fox noted that he was starring in Family Ties as Alex P. Keaton when the film was starting production. According to Fox, Zemeckis and his co-writer for Back to the Future, Bob Gale, had approached the creator of Family Ties, Gary David Goldberg, to let them cast Fox as Marty, unbeknownst to the actor. Goldberg told Gale and Zemeckis that Fox was unavailable for the role as he needed to be on the Family Ties set.
Due to Fox's unavailability, Stoltz was hired for the role, but ended up getting fired after a few weeks of filming. According to Fox, Stoltz, whom he described as "a terrific actor," wasn't "really ready to embrace" the film's "goofiness."
Eventually, Goldberg let Fox know that Zemeckis wanted him to replace Stoltz and let him see the script. Fox said he was immediately interested in the role and began filming Back to the Future "within a week" of accepting the job. However, he also had to film Family Ties.
"I was doing both jobs. I'd do Family Ties in the daytime and I do Back to the Future at night. And I was working 18, 19, 20 hours," recalled Fox in the 2001 interview.
He also noted that starring in Back to the Future "changed [his] life" and career trajectory.

Amazon Exploring ‘The Apprentice’ Revival With Trump Jr.
The hit 2004 reality show The Apprentice, hosted by DonaldTrump, just might be getting revived.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Amazon is looking into a reboot of the series that would live on Prime Video. The updated show would have a small, two-letter change: jr., instead of Donald Trump hosting, his eldest son, DonaldTrumpJr., would be center stage.
Amazon didn’t comment on the show directly, but told the newspaper, “Since our acquisition of MGM, we have had preliminary internal discussions about what’s next for TheApprentice as a property.”
The WSJ reported Amazon MGM Studios head, MikeHopkins, and fellow executives at the company were exploring the possibility of a reboot, noting that Hopkins and his team “began talking about the reboot idea internally early last year, around the time Trump was being sworn in for his second term, according to some of the people familiar with the talks.”
Currently, Amazon co-owns the rights to the series with Trump’s production company, Trump Productions. Originally, The Apprentice aired on NBC but was produced by Trump Productions and MarkBurnett Productions, in 2014 MGM purchased the company. Amazon acquired MGM in 2022.
The original show ran from 2004 to 2017, with Trump hosting the first 14 seasons. Amazon has streamed the reality series, and over time it has been sold into syndication and syndicated streaming
The Apprentice was a competition-based show where contestants were evaluated by their business skills. The ultimate goal was to secure an apprenticeship. Episodes ended with Trump telling the eliminated contestant the famous catch phrase, “You’re fired.”
Varietyreported that insiders say the series is currently “not in development.” Adding that there have not been “any discussions with anyone outside the company” about creating a future version of the show.
The Apprentice was nominated for nine Emmys while on air. It created multiple spinoffs, including Celebrity Apprentice and The Apprentice: Martha Stewart.
Donald Trump was fired from The Celebrity Apprentice in 2015 after he made remarks about Mexican immigrants.
In 2015, the network issued a statement, "At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values. Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump."
Arnold Schwarzenegger took over the final installment of the series, which aired in 2017.

The retailer has an ample discount section that offers deals on furniture like this stunning Marsail Futon Sofa Bed, which is 45% off now.
The piece originally cost $320, but has been reduced to a whopping $176. It's 66.1 inches long, 20.8 inches wide, and 30.7 inches tall, making it ideal for those looking to fill compact spaces (like studios, small apartments, or guest rooms). The beauty of this sofa bed is that it's adjustable, so you can actually position the backrest at three angles: 105-, 160-, and 180-degrees. The full 180 degrees is perfect for naptime, while the others are great while watching television, working, or reading.

The upholstered design is essentially a loveseat that fits up to two people at a time. Country Icon Forced To Cancel Multiple Shows Amid 'Severe' Health Issues
LeAnn Rimes is hitting pause on her tour after a sudden health scare.
The country icon was forced to cancel two upcoming stops on her 30 Years of Blues tour due to what she described as a “severe illness.” In a message shared with fans on social media Wednesday, April 29, Rimes explained, “Due to severe illness, I am unable to travel & perform this week. I'm sorry to share that the upcoming shows in Spokane and Seattle will be rescheduled.”
The April 30 show in Spokane has now been moved to May 31, while the Seattle performance originally set for May 1 will take place on June 2. She explained that original tickets will still be honored at the rescheduled dates, and in the event fans can’t attend, they can get a full refund.
A screenshot of Leann Rimes' Instagram Story on April 29.“I am truly heartbroken to have to reschedule, and I am so very grateful for your kindness and continued support as I recover,” she added. “I look forward to [being] back on stage and seeing you very soon. Love, LeAnn.”
While Rimes did not specify the exact nature of her illness, the 43-year-old has been open about ongoing health issues. She previously revealed she's been dealing with intense jaw tension tied to her “perimenopausal, menopausal journey,” even undergoing a deep jaw release procedure to help alleviate the issue.
In a video, she shared a look at the experience, which was anything but subtle.
During the session, Rimes was breaking down into sobs as the pressure released. “Healing isn’t always quiet. Sometimes it’s a physical letting go of things we didn’t even know we were carrying,” read the caption accompanying the clip. At one point, she was even encouraged to say, “That part of my life better be over.”
Afterward, Rimes appeared relieved and said, “Oh my God, you just don’t realize how much tension is in there.”
Jessi Draper Files Declaration of Support for Taylor Frankie Paul Ahead of Court Hearing
TheSecret Lives of Mormon Wives star Jessi Draper is showing her support for Taylor Frankie Paul amid her ongoing legal battle with ex-boyfriend Dakota Mortensen.
According to court documents obtained by People, Draper filed an affidavit on Wednesday, April 29 in Paul and Mortensen's case over their competing protective orders. The affidavit was filed in support in support of Paul a source told People.
Additionally, Paul filed her own affidavit along with new exhibits titled “Kicking Admission” and “Abusive Texts." Mortensen submitted supplemental exhibits in response to Paul's request for a protective order.
Paul and Mortensen are scheduled to appear in Utah court on Thursday, April 30 to address the competing protective order requests as well as determine a custody agreement for their son Ever, 2.
Paul has alleged that Mortensen stalked her and slammed her head into the dashboard of his car. Mortensen then submitted photographs of scratches and other bodily injuries he allegedly sustained during altercations with Paul.
Both the Draper City Police Department and the West Jordan Police Department have opened domestic violence cases against Paul and Mortensen in February. In April, The Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office and the Draper City Prosecutor both declined to file charges against Paul. They cited insufficient evidence to prove the allegations beyond a reasonable doubt as a reason. On April 7, Mortensen was granted custody of their son with Paul receiving up to eight hours per week of supervised visitation.
Season five of The Secret Live of Mormon wives resumed production in April after filming had been paused in March. Paul and Mortensen will both be absent from the upcoming season as several cast members refused to work with Paul according to People.
If you are experiencing domestic violence, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233, or go to thehotline.org. All calls are toll-free and confidential. The hotline is available 24/7 in more than 170 languages.
U.S. Skier Lindsey Vonn Announces 'First Big Travel' After Winter Olympics Crash
U.S. skiing legend Lindsey Vonn is taking a new step in her long recovery journey after a devastating crash at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics.
The 41-year-old Olympic medalist recently shared on her Instagram Story a photo that showed her “first big travel,” giving fans a small but emotional look at how she is slowly returning to normal life.
The post comes months after a frightening downhill crash that ended her Olympic comeback in seconds. She was even spotted at the Los Angeles airport while traveling with crutches.
Her recovery journey has been long and painful since Feb. 8, 2026, when she crashed just 13 seconds into her women’s downhill run at the Winter Olympics in Italy. The impact caused a complex tibia fracture in her left leg, forcing medical teams to airlift her from the mountain to a hospital.

Vonn underwent multiple surgeries, with doctors at one point nearly forced to amputate her leg due to complications from compartment syndrome. She has since had a total of five surgeries while continuing intense rehabilitation.

— mydzn (@MadelaineDizon) April 30, 2026Even with the challenges, Vonn has continued to share updates with fans. Vonn’s recovery has not only been physical but also deeply emotional. Nearly three months after her crash, she has openly shared the mental struggles that came with her injury.
In an interview with People, she described how difficult the experience has been, especially after losing her independence during her hospital stay.
“It’s definitely been up and down,” she said of her mental health as she continues her rehab process. “I’d say in the last month, it’s definitely gotten better, but of course there were really low moments. I hate being dependent on people, and was pretty much 100% dependent for everything. It was quite a challenge, just being in the hospital alone for two and a half weeks. Being completely immobile for that extended time period was so rough.”
Vonn also revealed that at one point during treatment, she was in extreme pain that left a strong emotional memory of the experience.
“Halfway through, I started sweating. I was just in such extreme pain. I screamed at the top of my lungs: Get me out,” she told Vanity Fair.
“It just wouldn’t dissipate. It wouldn’t let up. It’s seared into my brain.”
She also revealed the emotional toll of her recovery, including periods of depression, while continuing to fight through rehabilitation.
Even while recovering, Vonn has remained active in other parts of her life. She is currently involved in advocacy work and public campaigns, including Invivyd’s “Antibodies for Any Body” campaign.
She is also preparing for a major public appearance as the commencement speaker for the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism on May 15.
While she is still far from returning to competitive skiing, Vonn has said she is beginning to see progress in her recovery timeline and believes she is moving closer to a more normal life.
